Abigail Breslin Q&A: Isn’t She Just a Doll?

Abigail Breslin—Little Miss Sunshine herself—stars in "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl." Breslin, 12, spoke to Ramin Setoodeh, direct from the American Girl doll store in Dallas:

Are you going to buy any dolls?
I already have them all.

Every single one?
I want a treehouse now.

Did you have to dye your hair blonde for the role?
I wore a wig.

Well, that's easy.
It took 45 minutes to get out of every day, so that was hard.

Did people think you were a real blonde?
My uncle came to the set one day and said, 'Who's that blonde girl?' And my mom said, 'It's Abby.'

What do you do when you're not working?
I just saw "Indiana Jones" with my friend Joyce, and that was fun. That was a good movie. I like to have sleepovers. I like to swim. I like to talk on the phone.

Do you go to school?
I'm home-schooled and I do school on the set for three hours a day.

What are you learning about?
Multiplication. I don't really like it that much. I like all the subjects except for math.

What's wrong with math?
It's boring and I don't get it.

What subjects do you like?
I like reading. I like art. I like lunch.

Since you're home-schooled, do you bring your own lunch?
No! I'll make a sandwich. I work at the kitchen table, so I'll go into the kitchen whenever and make a sandwich. Or I'll tell my brother he has to go get me pizza or a hot dog. He's 16.

You have a lot of pets, don't you?
I have a German shepherd, two Siberian cats and a Russian tortoise. And I want a pug, but my mom won't let me.

How do you know your tortoise is Russian?
Because that's what they told me. The producers from "Definitely, Maybe" got it for me.

Did it come all the way from Russia?
No. It came all the way from 70th Street.

You just joined the Girl Scouts?
I became an honorary member. So that was exciting.

Do Girl Scouts get badges or is that just the Boy Scouts?
No, Girl Scouts get badges—and cookies!

Have you sold any cookies?
I'm afraid if I starting selling them, I'd start eating them. I like the peanut butter ones and the thin mints. They're really good because they're not too minty but they're just minty enough. If you put them in the freezer, they taste so good.
