Who Is Max Lea? Demi Lovato Responds to Prank on Bodyguard

Pop star Demi Lovato came under fire Sunday after revealing a vulgar prank she pulled on her bodyguard, Max Lea, involving a "lady of the night."

Lea is the president of Safehouse Security Solutions and bodyguard to Lovato. He has more than 20 years of experience in the security and entertainment industry, but his LinkedIn states he specializes in "executive protection, investigation and consulting." While working as the Chief of Staff at music management company Philymack, he provided security and logistics for artists represented by the company, including Nick Jonas and DNCE.

While on the European leg of her tour, the "Tell Me You Love Me" songstress engaged in a 45-minute Twitter Q&A session where she answered random questions from fans, including the "weirdest rumor" she's heard about herself. Things escalated after she was asked about the "funniest prank" she'd ever orchestrated.

"I hired a lady of the night in Vegas and sent her to Max's hotel room to surprise him," Lovato, 25, shared in a since-deleted tweet. "She walked into his room without permission and grabbed him in his 'area' and he freaked the f—k out hahahaha."

Fans were not pleased with Lovato's revelation. Many accused the singer of partaking in sexual harassment or assault. One user called Lovato's actions a "disgusting prank," whereas another user suggested fans should stop giving her a pass. One individual took things a step further by questioning "how can people stan her."

Lovato initially defended herself, writing: "I swear I could tweet something about craving jelly beans and it would offend someone."

"For all of those coming at me rn, listen to the lyrics of Warrior and maybe you'll have more compassion for someone who made a simple mistake," Lovato wrote Sunday. "Of all people I know about sexual abuse. You don’t have to educate me."

She later returned with an apology for her seemingly controversial remarks. "So sorry if anyone was offended," she wrote.

Lovato has spoken out on behalf of sexual assault victims before, and seemingly shared a personal experience in the song "Warrior" from 2013's Demi. On the track, she hints at having "thicker skin" and being a "survivor" following an incident with an unknown person. "This is a story that I've never told. I gotta get this off my chest to let it go," Lovato sings. "I need to take back the light inside you stole. You're a criminal, and you steal like you're a pro."
