‘Sridevi Death Twist’ Trends After Bollywood Great’s Cause of Death Was First Rumored to Be ‘Cardiac Arrest’

Fans of Sridevi Kapoor aren’t convinced the Bollywood superstar died from an accidental drowning.

On Saturday, it was reported that the actress’s sudden death was due to cardiac arrest; a day later, her brother Sanjay Kapoor told Times of India that Sridevi had no history of a heart condition. “We are completely shocked,” he said.

When Kapoor’s autopsy was released Monday, it was revealed that she actually died in a bathtub at a Dubai hotel from an accidental drowning.

The mixed reports resulted in a wave of outrage on social media, causing the hashtag #SrideviDeathTwist to go viral Tuesday. Dozens of grieving fans took to Twitter to blast media outlets for their quick and inaccurate reporting of Sridevi’s alleged cardiac arrest, while others questioned the authenticity of the latest reports claiming the Solva Sawan star drowned. Some proposed there may be an even bigger conspiracy surrounding Kapoor’s death.

On Tuesday, the Dubai media office tweeted that the public prosecution office finished a “comprehensive investigation into the circumstances” of 54-year-old Kapoor’s death.

“As per the forensic report, the death of the Indian actress occurred due to accidental drowning following loss of consciousness,” the office wrote. “The case has now been closed.”

At the time of her death, the English Vinglish actress was in Dubai for a family member’s wedding, along with her husband, film producer Boney Kapoor, and daughter Khushi Kapoor. On Tuesday, the Indian movie star’s body was transported from Dubai back to Mumbai where she lived with her family. Her funeral is slated to take place on Wednesday.

With a career that began as a child actor and spanned some 50 years, Sridevi was considered to be the first female Bollywood megastar. She got her start in acting at just 4 years old when she appeared in the Tamil Hindu drama Thunaivan, and she went on to appear in more than 100 Hindi, Tamil and Telugu films.
