To all those who stoke the fire of Palestinian hope. How many Palestinian generations are you willing to lose to miserable conditions for your dream of a Jew-Free Palestine? Or, you could lay down your pride and accept a smaller state with a better infrastructure than most Arabs could ever hope for in this life time. Children could grow up with all of their freedom of choices intact only they would have to do it with the pin *** to their pride of losing some war and land to Jews. Which dignity is more important, that life of choices or being the winner?

hamsa, Either they accept the solution of South Africa OR the world will rid itself of those spoiled brats who want the world to suffer for the sake of the Jews. They are not above humanity and they are not special people and what happened to them in the past was not the fault of the Palestinians. Let christian europe pay for its mistakes. It is VERY generous of us to accept to let them continue to live among us in a state for all, but if they refuse and insist on robbing us of our basic human and national rights, then we will fight them to the end. No one stays strong for ever and the same goes for the weak. More and more jews leave this state every day and more non-jews claiming to be jews come and those don't really give a damn about the land or national aspirations. When things get tougher as we grow stronger, those new israelis will leave and who will be left but those delusional jews who still think that they came to an empty land while knowing that they slaughtered and expelled the owners of the land to build their racist state. This state is on a suicidal mission and its destruction shall come from within it with some help from us. I'll give it another 25 years before it disappears off of the map of the world as if never been there. It will face the same fate of nazi Germany and any oppressive regime like former S. Africa.

Israel indeed is a refugee camp by the standards of Palestinian refugee camps, which also have houses and streets and buildings and even farms. Do you think those people have been living in tents for 60 years? And where do you think Arab Jewish refugees went when they were expelled in the 1950's, where is their home now? What of their right of return? Once again the Arab world dumps a problem on the Palestinians. Seems that infusion of Jews didn't help the Pal. cause. And your assertion that Israel would be half the world by now belies you as the anti-semitic conspiracy-monger that you are. I could say there are Muslims that want to take over the world and I wouldn't even be saying anything that isn't widely known. But I hope I am talking to reasonable people not of that ilk.

Hamsa, most Palestinians or pro-palestinians do not wish to rid the world of Jews, rather they reject an Eretz-Israel. Quite fair I'd say.

If th Arabs had not attacked Israel "the new nation" as you like to put it, then Israel would be half of the world by now. They always hset their sights beyong Palestine. If the Zionists had not invaded Palestine, then it would probably be a flourishing country and the population 10 times it's size knowing how the Palestinians like to reproduce! Israel is not a refugee camp, it's full of big houses with lots of land, perfect to cultivate crops, all of which had been unrightfully stolen by the Zionists. Nobody on here needs to give them a reason to feel bad, they already should feel bad.

Dear Pro-Palestinians, how can you suggest your "fair" solutions and then say hopefully the world will rid themselves of Jews and their problems anyway? How can you expect someone to trust such a speaker and their solutions. I wonder what Gaza would look like today if there were no rockets being fired at Israel after they left. I wonder what Israel would look like today if the Arabs had not attacked the new nation.in 1948, likely not even half its' size. What would Israel look like today if they had lost? Would there be some current conflict about it, Jews sitting idle in 60 year old refugee camps? You forget, Israel is their refugee camp. Like many migrations in history, this one happened. It happened for good reasons or for bad, they are there. Stop giving them reasons to feel cornered, not just by the Mulsims, but by the Jew hating world.

After most wars, refugees are allowed to be repatriated. Palestinians are not. After the 1929 Revolt and the 1948 Naqbah, no Palestinian that flees thebloodshed can ever return, not even to this day. I suspect the Israeli's planned the whole saga, cutting off supplies in Gaza so the Palestinians break through the Sinai borders to Egypt illegally, in refuge. However, I bet those gone for more than a few hours will not be allowed back in and then the Israeli's will claim these homes to be their own as they we "unoccupied". It's catch 22 for the Palestinians, they can not stay and they can not leave.

Ben-Gurion, the first Prime Minister of Israel, stated so many times that he wanted a "pure state" of Jews, much as Hitler did in WW2. Ben-Gurion even thought Jordan was an "artificial" country and that it should be split and shared by Israel and the Maronites. Luckily, Nasser's Pan-Arab regime was increasingly popular with neighbouring Arab countries preventing him from annexation. There is no word for Ben-Gurion other than greedy. The Israeli's didn't have a leg to stand on without their army and a Western ally, whether Britain, the US or France. And Ben-Gurion knew this. He was constantly building his army in the hope that it would set fear into the Arab nations so they would not attack or reject the Israeli state. But little did he realise that the Palestinians would be a little more resistant than he thought. Rightly so, too.

The Israeli's fight nothing but a pre-emptive war. As soon as Egypt began building relations with Britain and the US, Ben-Gurion saw this as a threat and so invaded the Sinai with his army, where far more Egyptian soldiers died than Israeli's. Why is Israel in such a state of paranoia? Is it because, deep down, they know they are in the wrong. They realise that they should allow Palestinians to be repatriated to their homes. That they shouldn't forcibly remove innocent civilians from their houses? Probably. They're just too full of self-worth to admit it.

And for those of you who think the US is "freedom", try telling that to the parents of a girl who was raped and murdered and all the other parents in that area who are scared to let their kids step foot out of the house past sunset. Or how if you're of a different race you may be subjected to abuse by your neighbours. Nowhere has "freedom" and you're deluded if you think so.

How the author decide to take true Palestinian suffering and write about it as some sort of PR game is beyond me. This reporter, though well intentioned is obviously afraid of the Jewish lobbiy's wrath as he talks about the suffering Palestinians as if their on a PR campaign. It is has has been for decades the Israeli goverment, soldiers and settlers that are running a PR campaign. Benny Morris of Israel and others have stated that Israel wants it both ways: it wants to abuse the Palestinians sadistically while athte the same time professing to the media, especially in the U.S. that they are adhering to human rights and being merciful. How this lousy author, many are even worse, can minimize the Palestinian suffering and pander to Israel is immoral and shows a measure of cowardice toward the Israeli media bias and lobby.

BTW, Sonia, did you file your taxes this year? How about you leave a note for those who will process your file telling them that you don't want your money to be used to fund the occupation of Palestine. Perhaps it's time for people like to take a serious stand to end this conflict and bloodshed that you fund with your tax dollar instead of just saying god bless Palestine with peace. Your words and the blessings of your god will not get anywhere as long as you fund this war. It is your responsibility to stop it by pulling the plug that keeps it alive. Stop funding the war and tell your governemnt that you do not want to fund it.

    Sonia,

Do you think that only men can think and write comments here? Why did you assume that I was a man? I'm not ignorant of history, but I believe in science and not myths. The bible is not a historical document and nothing but a bunch of stories that are fun to read on winter nights. You are obviously not aware of the archeological findings that couldn't prove most of the nonsense in the bible. The bible was written by men and its interpretation is controlled by men, why should I believe what men say when their book and their religion give them so much power than women!!! BTW, no book is holy when it's written by men.

    Continued....

The whole thing to the European Jewish converts is nothing but an eterprise to make money and live a decent life at the expense of my people. My people have the right to live in their homeland and return to their homes and lands that are still there. Read my friend's solution before you respond to me. If the israelis keep refusing this solution, the time will come when the people of the world are going to tell the Jews that they had enough of them and their conflict and it might become time to rid the world of them. The world has more important issues to deal with and many humans to protect and feed and the Jews should have never become a priority for any country. The European states made the Jews feel that their safety was important in order to use them to access our oil and now this monster lie they created is going to devour them and that will be enough for the Europeans to tell the Jews: enough is enough!

    Tim,

Did you check the Alternative Palestinian Agenda? Here's the link http://www.ap-agenda.org/ . I have zero interest in preserving a Jewish state. There are no two countries there. There is Palestine that is under zionist/western colonization. France brought more than 1 million French citizens to Algeria and they all went back. Europe and other countries sent Jews to settle in Palestine and many of them will have to go back to their countries. One fifth of the israelis already left and live in the US. I don't believe that the Jews had any significant presence in Palestine in the past. If that were true, how come there isn't much evidence of their presence. I don't know if you realize that most of the archeologists allowed to work in Palestine are Jewish and israeli. They pick and choose what to share with the world. How many of the world Jewry can prove their linkage to the Hapirus/Hebrews? I'm sorry, but I was not raised on the myths of the bible that exaggerate the presence of the Jews so as to glorify the history of Jesus and his people. I don't know of anything that proves that Jesus or Moses existed and were prophets! When you say that Jerusalem at the time of the Romans had one million people, do you mean that all of them were Hebrews? Please, check out the book that I mentioned in previous post. The time the Hebrews spent in Palestine was 140-150 years and that is not enough to establish any ownership of the land especially when they were not in charge of the land's affairs. If the Romans claimed that they were and made them sound strong that is nonsense. The US claimed that the Iraqi army was the 4th strongest army in the world and we saw what happened during the war. The Phoenicians and the Canaanites shared the same culture and were connected since they were neighbors. The Phoenicians were mostly in Lebanon and north of Palestine.
If you truly believe that the Jews have a right to return since they were there 2000 years ago, don't you think that the Palestinian refugees have that same right since they were there 60 years ago? Do you know that the oldest Jewish community lives in Yemen? If the Jews truly originated in Palestine, wouldn't that community be the oldest? Why would they leave prosperous and lush Palestine and cross into the dessert and go to Yemen? No matter what argument the Jews use to justify their occupation of Palestine, nothing convinces me. I don't believe in the bible or the torah and the myths that they spread. If the Jews want to return somewhere, I think that Yemen is the most probable place since that country has the oldest Jewish community. Will be continued next.

    Tim,

The solution is easy and has been used before. Why can't we repeat what happened in S. Africa? The problem is that the israelis are not willing to give up anything and insist on preserving their jewish state, which, in this day and age, is racist and discriminatory. I would reject a pure Muslim or Christian state as much as I would reject a Jewish one because they are racist in nature. The only solution that I can accept was devised by two Palestinian researchers called Salman Abu Sitta and Nasser Abu Farha. Look up Alternative Palestinian Agenda on the web and you can read Nasser's solution. As for the Muslim side of your argument, the Muslims are currently going through what Europe went through during the dark ages. It's the natural course of history that was imposed on us by the west that fought every attempt by the nationalists to regain the freedom of the Arab and Muslim worlds. When the nationalists failed, no thanks to the west, the people sought the other side, which was the Islamists. Almost 8 years ago, the people in the US felt frustrated with the democrats and ran to the republicans and now they are frustrated with the republicans and are running to the democrats. Unfortunately, the US policy in our region constantly weakened the moderates among us even when they agreed to work with the US on finding a solution though they were not willing to become a sell-out as in the case of the late Yasser Arafat. Arafat knew that there were limitations to his concessions and the US knew that, but they pushed him to the edge that could no longer negotiate with anyone. He was asked to give up too much of our rights, and thus, negotiations became futile. When that happened, Hamas became stronger and they promised the people to deliver a better solution. The west thinks that depriving us of life necessities would turn us against Hamas, but they don't understand how we function and what makes us tick. Pride is more important than life itself and we'd rather eat a bite of bread mixed with soil than have a cookie with humiliation. When the US is willing to have the courage and impose a just solution that will allow everyone to live in peace and dignity, there will be peace and prosperity. The other problem is that the US arms corporations make billions of dollars out of the conflict and the people there pay with their blood and flesh. The israelis are my enemies, but the US government and the arms and oil corporations are my bigger enemy.

Mr. Jafras you are very frustrated muslim who hates the Jews and the Christians and the United States of America! This great nation is free nation, with multi nationalities and Freedom of Religion and speech. Freedom.

The difference in S Africa is that it was all one country. Here we have two countries fighting over land and they probably would agree on the type of goverment to be used. I agree that there are companies and individuals that would prefer that this conflict continue for their own benefit. I think that Hamas and some of the other hard core groups would losse their power and influence if peace broke out. I don't think that the people love Hamas as much as they don't have much to choose from. Their leaders have not been very effective. I understand they are proud people but I am not so sure that they all agree with you that pride is more important than life. Especially the mothers. Our whole world would probably be better off if they ran the world. With Hamas in control of Gaza everyone seems deperate to support Fatah in the W Bank. It seems that this might be the time get serious and try to end this. Is there any comprimise of the refugee problem that would be acceptable? I just don't think that Israel is going to let them come back. What about Jerusalem? It is the Muslims third most holy site and the Jews first most holy. Who should control it? Please look at my other post about dissposed peoples I would like to get your opinion. I realize the actuall argument may be a litte far fetched but I think it raises a valid point. Every nation today occupies land taken from someone at some point in history. The Palistinians came from Greece . Please correct my history if it is incorrect. The point is they where not the first people to inhabit the region. At this point someone needs to be pragmatic and quit asking what is fair. Instead ask what will work.

I feel bad for the good people, the innocent people who are suffering in Palestine. Not all of them are muslim terrorists. But they did want to be a seperate State and now they have want they wanted. I feel that their muslim neighbors should and are obligated to help them get on their feet.
Alos, I have no idea what Mr. Jafra is talking about. It is clear to me, that he is an atheist and extremely ignotant of history and especially the Holy Bible.
God Bless Israel and Palestine with peace.

    Dear Tim,

There is no connection whatsoever between the Hebrews or Hapirus that lived in Palestine in the past and the European Jews. The latter are converts from the Khazar nation. The Hapirus if you look them up in Encyclopedia Britannica were bandits that raided Canaanite villages and never really established any kingdom in Palestine. The stories in the bile are plain myths and there is no proof of them on the ground. Jericho never had walls to tumble down and Jerusalem was never the kingdom that was mentioned in the bible. It was a cow town as described by Israel Finklestein who researched it. There is no proof of the encampment in the Sinai dessert either. It seems that some group of people who felt worthless decided to make up stories to make themselves feel good. Some of the Hapirus managed to settle down with the Canaanites and were absorbed in the Canaanite culture. Many of the names of the Jewish settlements have names of Canaanite gods and many Jewish names are Canaanite names. The Canaanite civilization is older than "king" David and the whole story about him. It was the dominant culture that the Hapirus assimilated in and became part of. The Canaanites are my ancestors. Some of the designs of the traditional Palestinian dresses that Palestinian women were have Canaanite symbols. A good book to read is called, The Invention of Israel and the Silencing of Palestinian History. The western priests that arrived to Palestine in the past interpreted everything that they saw in a way that suited their version of history and ignored anything that proved the existence of a Canaanite culture that was much more advanced than the Hebrew one. Unfortunately, many of the studies that were made afterwards were based on the biased studies of those priests.

      Dear Jafra
What about the Jewish civilazation during the time or Rome. That is historically established. The city of Jerusalem had over one million people. I am not familiar with the archeological data concerning the time of the Kings before 607 BCE. Howerver there is little dispute about the history after 537 whent the Persians returned the Jews to Jerusalem. This history I believe is well established by secular sources. This certainly true of the Roman times. What about the Phonecians where do they fit? Are they your ancestors? Does any of this matter? Don't we all live in lands taken from someone at some time?

I read, and read, and read.......
    Watch and watch and watch.....
I TRY to understand BOTH sides because somewhere in all this muddled, muddied mess there has to be a reason for all of this........
BUT, ALL I HEAR AND SEE IS B.S.!
Do not people see each other as human? Isn't fairly unverisal that people want a better life for themselves, a decent place to live and raise their childeren far away from hate and violence?
    Now here's the trick question.....
WHY cannot ANYONE seem to get to the point where SOMEONE says "I may not like you at all, I REALLY don't like ANYTHING about you or your people.....
BUT, Just for today, I wont shoot at you, and Just for today, You won't shoot at me."
    Tomorrow we'll try this again......
    Just a thought.

Commenting from the ARK in Berea, American Cultural Ambassadors David and Renate Jakupca stated: "The living standards in Gaza are at levels unacceptable to a world that promotes the elimination of poverty and the observance of human rights as core principles. It appears that the Newsweek is new to this business of web hosting a forum like discussion. If the host brings in the reply button it is the responsibility of the host to make sure that a reader looking at the response should be able to reach the respondee comment. There are two ways of doing it. (1) Clicking on the reply button you get the comment to which you are responding. In most cases you get to modify or pick and choose the part you want to respond to. The ugly part of this is you would see folks selecting a part of a sentence and clobbering the author of the comment. (2). To each message you allocate a sequence that clearly identifies the author of the comment, along with time and other necessary data, and make sure that when the reply button is clicked this identifying sequence is shown as: In response to: xyz blahblah. In this second case you can keep the comments in a sequence. Personally I like the first with the restriction that the responder does not get to modify the original message. This would be close to what is done in various fora run by Google.
