What does smart have to do with it? Is the most powerful man on earth notably intelligent? Is he notably intellectually curious? Is his brain undamaged by drugs?

Even if it is in doubt whether girls are smarter than boys, isn't it at least true that girls tend to be more civilized?

IQ tests to measure spacial skills, mathematical ability, vocabulary, and a myriad of other things. I don't believe that this is the issue nor the problem. The problem is that social mores insinuate that women have less intelligence and ability than their male counterparts. When this is accepted by society then you have teachers assuming that the male pupils are smarter, interviewers tending to see the males accomplishments in a brighter light, and even parents looking limiting (or expanding depending on the sex of the child) what they perceive to be their child's aptitude, abilities, and intelligence. It's like Vygotski who considers the "proximal zone of development" wherein children learn best and the most when they are slightly out of their comfort zone, but not so far so that the goal is unattainable. If we do not offer the opportunities for children to flex their mental muscles due to cultural biases then we are merely resigning ourselves to the standard of inequality.

Forget about the Academic Test Scores or the IQ Scores!! Look at the Facts! How many Major or for that matter Minor Inventions Ie. Airplane, Automobile, Plow, tractor, dishwasher, stove, vacuum cleaner, Computer, or Countless other things we human beings depend on and use every day were invented by Women??? Less than 3%!!! Consult U>S> Patent Office!!!

The article's first question is meaningless: "Are men smarter than women?" But that doesn't stop the (female) author from answering it: "No." The question is undefined and ambiguous, so a responsible journalist would define it before answering. But when you're an ideologue, you have the all the answers, now don't you?

The inference is quite correct. Men flaunt as do peacocks maybe to impress. But when it comes to judging total intelligence that should include artihmetic and mathematical ability, spatial skills, decision making and judgement, etc. ( all that IQ tests should include and not merely some mathematical puzzles ) both are the same. Women in general are more reserved, have more dignity as compared to men and are always not ready to show their skills..But they perform equally well. Its gender bias that has created such notions. If Testosterone makes men smarter then I would say Estrogen makes women wiser !!!

A nitpicky detail, but the KKK was a Protestant group originally founded in Western Canada. They advocated white supremacy, anti-Sematism, anti-Catholicism, racism, homophobia, anti-Communism and nativism. ~ this doesn't discredit the point made by Greg the Third, but the group was more vicious than he alluded to.

    To my point...

I don't feel the article is suggesting that women are more intelligent - if anything, the reverse is true (see the comments made about the bell curve). What this study was was simply an analysis that men would overestimate their intelligence (in general) and women underestimate theirs (in general) - regardless of what their intelligence was. This provides interesting insights into the job market, and why it is that men typically earn a higher starting wage when compared to the same position being held by a woman (they are more confident and feel comfortable negotiating in the interview). Ultimately, this article really had nothing to do with actual intelligence, just how it is perceived.

actually the kkk was founded by veterans of the Confederate Army, its main purpose was to resist reconstruction.

I have read articles claiming that argue that men are smarter than women and in the comment sections there are always men argueing how correct the article is etc. When there is an article claiming that the sexes are alot more equal than people believe then all of a sudden scientific research "means nothing". I also want to comment on the arguement that women arn't forced to act in any way. Of course no one is saying that men and other women have women at gun point forcing them to act stupid. A recent study has shown that men tend to like women who seem less intelligent than they are. Women are rational actors who react to incentives just as much as men. They are not any more inherently whinny or manipulative than men are.
