He's Not as Smart as He Thinks

I'm pretty sure Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Socrates, Thomas Edison, William Shakespeare, Dante, Leonardo DaVinci, Pythagorus, Edgar Allen Poe, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Bach, Beethoven, Moliere, Sophocles, Johann Kepler, to name a few, were male. However, I would think each and every one of these people likely had very smart, nurturing mothers. Call me "politically incorrect", I don't care. PC thwarts free thought and expression.

"A study of 100,000 17- to 18-year-olds on the Scholastic Assessment Test published in the September 2006 issue of the journal Intelligence, has confirmed a surprising new finding -- that men have a 4- to 5-point IQ advantage over women by adulthood."

"A study to be published later this year in the British Journal of Psychology says that men are on average five points ahead on IQ tests."

Looks like the author has struck a nerve with the men--wow!

At any rate, the following has been my experience:
1. If a person has to outwardly claim something repeatedly (e.g. superiority of intellect) it's probably not true.
2. Fear-based posturing, as displayed by some of the males on this page, is generally evidence of a lack of intellect.
3. According to the data I have worked with, the highest scoring individuals on IQ tests were not white males. Rather, they were Asian immigrant females, specifically immigrant Chinese females. They dominated the right-hand of the bell curve in the most recent studies I have seen. No one seems to mention this, interestingly enough.

Further, it should be considered that in the specific areas of IQ tests noted by most experts (like mathematical reasoning), Asians score a few points higher than whites. It is not a huge difference. It's similar to the patterns seen on the male vs. female bell curves--there are more Asians than whites that are extremely high scorers in these areas. Why do the white profs. not bring this up? Further, if one uses the same reasoning that men use against women, mainly, that this difference produces scientific field excellence and/or dominance, one would obtain much higher numbers of Asian scientific field dominance than those observed (despite the fact that they are a small minority). Why is this cutesy IQ score logic only used against women? Maybe the aforementioned selective logic is really more evidence of male psychological problems than female scientific incompetence...

given that humankind has evolved in a particular way for millennia where genders have been allocated different responsibilities and each gender exposed to tasks of specific natures, it follows obviously that some people will be better at some things due to social as well as genetic reasons. give everyone equal opportunities and see the results in a century. also, how scientific are the scientific studies - what were the biases of those who designed the IQ tests? how unbiased are the analyses? how inclusive and balanced are the tests of skill sets across genders?

mike at 10:27:19pm, do you have a problem with equal opportunities for all people? the issue feminism is concerned with is not that science is bad. feminism asks for a solution to imbalance, that 1% you talk about. a solution so that a century from now scientific tests would be more accurate. do you have a problem with that? or would you prefer that the 1% remains?

To the women of this board, us men have patronized you for thousands of years, and I agree that you have every right to finally come back and claim the respect you deserve. But in all honesty, neither gender is smarter. These airhead tests (both the ones that say women are smarter and the ones that say men are) seem to forget the role environment plays in intelligence, as well as tester bias. Where was the test conducted? How were the participants raised? What gender is the majority of the testers? How were the testers raised?

If you think this is controversial, consider the difference in racial IQs. The average white IQ is 100 and the average black IQ is 85. IQ is around 80% genetic. Think about that.

Which is intellectually dishonest. There are plenty of scientific studies out there that have proven men are on average more intelligent than women are and that the brains of men and women are vastly different. Why don't you do yourself a favor and go look them up and read them, instead of just ignoring them like the typical feminist?

That claim is based on absolutely nothing. The main reason why women are not as assertive and confident as men are is because they're exposed to the hormone testosterone to a much lesser degree during the gestation period than men are. To understand the significance of that you'd have to research the affects of testosterone on the human brain and body.

And they are, but the reason is not because of social engineering ike many of you feminuts believe; it's because of things like GENETICS and TESTOSTERONE. Did you know that there's a 1% difference between the human male and the human female? To put that in perspective, there's a 1.5% difference between humans and chimpanzees. Also, did you know that during gestation the human male's brain is severed 2/3rds between the left and right hemispheres, limiting
communication between the right and left sides, which enables men to more effectively use the right side of their brains? A woman's brain is completely opposite. There is no severing of the left and right hemispheres, which allows the two sides to both communicate freely and frequently. This leads leads to difficulty in excelling in technical areas; however, it aids them in child rearing, emotions, et cetera.

*GASP* Do you think I'm making this stuff up?!

Take your nose out of that womyn's studies book and pick up a science book. You might learn something.
