He's Not as Smart as He Thinks

I like how the title's in bold print! you could of said something a little less onesided,keep up the good"n.o.w." work! An good abuse of "position",typical!

Lets all keep in mind that this study is probably biased in a way that gave the scientist the answers that they were looking for. Most studies start by a scientist having a hypothesis. Then they embark on research to prove their hypothesis. Most studies are done that way and therefore most studies have a certain level of biasness. Lets also remember that men and women are different. One isn't better or worse than the other.....just different. Gernerally speaking men have certain strengths that women don't have just as women have certain strengths that men don't have. You will generally find more men in the fields of mathematics and science just as you will general find more women in the fields of language and arts. Just walk into any college classroom and you will notice the predominant gender in certain classes. Now does that have to do with natural intelligence based on gender or does it have to do wtih our society and culture that influences men and women to think they are supposed to do or not do certain things. I really don't know but I would bet it has a little to do with both. Men and women process information differently, we learn in different ways. One more point. Maybe this study should have taken a tangent on self esteem in terms of gernder. I find that more women struggle with self esteem issues than men. Whether it is about intelligence, body image, being a good parent, etc, etc, etc. If you are a woman reading this than I advise you to think highly of yourself. Stop thinking so negatively about whatever it is you think is wrong with you (looks, brains, whatever). Confidence will get you further in life in many aspects more so than natural talent or intelligence.

All of us need to realize that men and women are different. We think differently, we process differently. We have different strengths and weaknesses. Does that make one or the other smarter?? I don't think so. Now these are generalitiies being made. Also does this study take into consideration the cultural factors of different parts of the world. Part of the study says that most parents believe that their son is smarter than their daughters. I would bet the cultures that put their sons on pedastols would weight that average to make it seem to suggest that most people of the world think that way. If parents in my community were asked that question I would bet most parents wouldn't even consider gender when consider which sex is smarter. I would bet this study was done in a bias way to get the answers that the so called scientist were looking for.

And BTW - If you think you are smart than your confidence and self esteen are higher than a person who doesn't think they are smart. Therefore your learning will be easier and quicker. Just think about the subject of math. If you think you are good at math then you generally will work harder at it and excell. If you think are are terrible in math then you generally will not try as hard, you will excuse your own failure or mediocrity resulting in you not being as smart in math as the person who thinks they are good at it. Confidence and self esteen have a ton more do to with success than plain natural ability..

In regards to this article as well as Mr. "iwas1ncthr" it is a good article. However, it is my opinion, that one that cannot type nor spell has no reason to post about it. What was it that made men think they were smarter? Could it be the years of putting women in the back and not even letting them vote, like the black population? Is it not this that made women believe they were not good enough and therefore had no right to speak? If it weren't for the feminist of this country, we never would have had a voice, yet we never minded to care for men who couldn't care for themselves. Look at what women like Tubman and Nightengale did for our men. As the men went off to war and came back blugened it was the mere woman who took care of them.
There are plenty of women such as myself out there who used to believe women should be servants. There are also women that will never understand the complexity of the need they have to serve men.

Although the "argument" may now be over, I still feel the need to offer my two pennies. To "Lady0" please don't try to make anymore "points" on this discussion board please, because you obviously can't spell, or use your keyboard at all for anything other than ridiculous dribble. Please don't offend other women by trying to appear as a champion for your sex when you can't even spell or write properly. Secondly, I would like to offer this; Please stop trying to separate men and women into two different halves of the same whole. There is and has never been any sexual distinction between men and women as far as intelligence is concerned, just different people. I have met and seen some of the smartest, and dumbest people of both sexes, and as in race, there is no distinction. As an intelligent being, your job is to take EVERYONE you meet as an individual. Don't look at sex. race, etc...etc.., people, (like anything taken in moderation) are to bge appreciated one, by one.

Somehow I get the impression that some comments attributed to men are not quiet as they seem. Nuff said.

You know what would have been a better subject than this biased one cunducted? How about personal skill vs the degree? Far more interesting. My arguement is that if you have a person who has been in a position with hands on experiance vs a college kid who has a peice of paper saying that he passed 4 years of testing, who is more qualified for the job? Last I checked this question had allot more weight to it than this femenistic BS study. Science will never be able to change the fact that wemon are more apt to base decision off of emotion where as men base things off of physical property. Now, dont get mad at me for this, blame history and years of science to back this up and lets not be so arrogant as to say that a cingle opinion superseeds the minds of 60 years worth of science. In short, no one cars about wich gender is smarter. My wife can handle our children better on an emotional level that I can yet I am better able to teach them hands on and judgment based off of the physical better than her. Id this because I am smarter? No. It's because of design and no matter what any femenist or biased person says this fact is just part of life.

To John in the South, What history proves is that discrimination is an effective tool. Telling people that they are inferior and making sure that they cannot receive equal opportunities is self-fullfilling. Witness the increasing accomplishments of humans other than those defined as worthy by your white southern male a-- now that the playing field has become closer to equal. Furthermore, In spite of discrimination, women and blacks have made great contributions to the world, you are just ignorant of them because our education system kept all of us ignorant in the past and you haven't bothered to educate yourself in more enlightened times. Women have always had the unequal burden of bearing, nursing and rearing children and doing the homemaking for men that imakes it easier for them to concentrate on "more important things." Not Einstein, Shakespeare nor Mozart could have acomplished much with a screaming, wet two year old on their hips.Yet even with this extra burden women continue to excel in all areas of society.

In response to duck01, my comments were not meant to be offensive, but it should be pointed out, that the so-called male world is highly competitve -- and no one gives anybody a break. I run a small but highly competive business, and most of my competitors are other men. We are civil, but make no mistake, we have competeive price negotiations etc. When I left a one of the larger groups and started my own business, they tried exceedingly hard to run me out of business -- nobody gave me a thing. Now, when we meet socially, we don't "try to keep the women down". But, remember, you've got to do it on your own.

I have three children, a girl followed by two boys. My daughter is more intelligent than my boys, and she attends a highly competieve Ivy League school. I don't think either of my boys will do as well academically, but I love them just the same. Furthermore, I agree with Buttercups comment........"I agree with whoever said that women are probably deferring to men only to be appreciated and win their favor.".....

People LOOK!! I can't believe you people are arguing about this stuff! God created us equal. EQUAL! Do you understand?? There's no reason for this. Women are just as capable of doing anything men can and vice-versa. Yes, men have been on top for the last I don't know how many years, but that's only because everyone thinks of themselves as superior to the next person! Everyone has been fighting about this subject forever, but just open your eyes! Your probably thinking "You know, he's right," but guess what? It didn't take a 30 year old man or woman to figure this out! I'm only a 13 year old boy who just got out of school. PLEASE just realize that man and woman are intellectually equal and stop the arguing!
