    • Posted By: Maria57 @ 01/25/2008 10:51:40 AM

Mr. Urchin your comment doesn't make sense, we do have a pair on our chests, which does nothing for abilities or brains. :o)

Your pair on your chest does affect men's intelligence regularly though. =o)

Because of articles like this, it is plain to see that we are slowly beginning to evolve from the days when the cave men, who were larger physically, assumed their brains were also larger. It is how society treats people that often determines how they behave. Traditionally, societies around the world have a preference for boys and men and those are the sector of society who display the most confidence.

Men on average are more creative and intelligent than women. I don't need any studies to know this. Mozart, Van Gogh, Einstein, Newton, Plato, Shakespeare, etc...History shows women didn't have the opportunities, but that is just a minor factor. I don't see today's women are the best in Math, Science, Economy, Music, etc...even cooking or fashion. Look at last year's achievements in Medicine, Chemistry, Physics... Men's mind is more creative, artistic, analytic period.

whoever thinks this study is useless is a chauvenist, if a study came out about issues that could improve the existence and lives of men, you would all find it worthwhile and usefull, but when it could potentially help women, you think it a waste of time, how cruel and primitive,

    • Posted By: ItsJustM3 @ 01/25/2008 11:10:48 AM

I feel this study was a waste and I am in not way a chauvinist (oh and I know what meant without looking it up). I do not degrade women nor do I feel that I am superior to them. In fact I feel that I am far below most women when is comes to intelligence and any other useful skill for that matter. The reason I feel that it is a waste is reasonable. So if you would quite being judgmental and throw out the sexist BS and let me explain.
How many studies have there already been that have proven stuff like this. Study showing that girls out score boys in all subjects in schools Women becoming far more prominent in businesses, running large companies as CEO's and Presidents. Right now a women is currently running for Presidency of the United States. These are all great things in my mind. Just saying that studies have already proven what this one is saying. I feel that this study is just a means of stirring up issues and its only point is to cause an argument. You may correct me if I am wrong but do not call me chauvinist. I am not in any way a chauvinist and saying that I am because you fell by saying it???s a waste of a time means I am trying to discredit something that may ???potential??? help women. That???s completely ridiculous.

Some men spend their time "watching football, grunting, scratching his genitals, perusing pornography, pimping out his car, neglecting his children, and obsessing about meathead athletes" and some women spend their time with "makeup, shaving, shopping, outfit coordinating, chatting with toddlers and obsessing with celebraties".

None of these thing show intelligence, that only proves that men and women are equally intelligent AND equally stupid. This is just proof positive that journalist thrive on controversy. Why not seperate us more by defining intelligence by race, sexual preference and religious boundaries?

    • Posted By: JS08 @ 01/25/2008 9:59:27 AM

How could race, sexual preference and religious boundaries define intelligence?

      • Posted By: MA1969 @ 01/25/2008 10:16:44 AM

They have nothing to do with intelligence. Sexual preference and religious boundaries have to do with moralistic values. I cannot believe someone could mention race in the same sentence with intellegence! You are as smart as you allow yourself to be no matter what your race. I would also like to question what personal habits have to do with intelligence?

About the same way that what you have between your legs defines intelligence.

        • Posted By: stone5150 @ 01/25/2008 10:37:32 AM

Personal habits have nothing to do with intelligence and niether does much of anything else, including gender.

  • Posted By: mensawareness @ 01/25/2008 11:02:00 AM

This is silly. I think this article is a case of politically correct double standards. As a male who has worked in IT for the last 10 years I am not only insulted and offended by this article, but I realize that if a male wrote the same article claiming 'scientific proof' that we are smarter than women feminists, NOW and other women's groups would claim sexism and have a victim party. For some reason the only thing men have not done that is smart is organize to point out misandric articles like this one. It is however, not politically incorrect to bash men. For some reason no matter what articles women write putting men down it seems rare that a man is informed enough to consider it hateful. If women are smarter, then take over the IT business, the science business and math as a career. The "male ego" is such a stereotype at this point. Why is one of the leading theoretical physicists a woman but some guy with no shirt gets arrested on the show COPS for beating his wife? The answer is not because mental capacity is a gender issue. It is because intelligence is an individual thing. All I'm saying is that by the time Joan Raymond writes this pseudo-scientific and hateful article people fail to see the misandry. beniceyall says this article is not about how women are smarter but yes it is, read the title. Also beniceyall says men die more and are awarded more Darwin awards. This is because it is much more natural for men to take risks that women usually do not take. Not because men are not as smart. It is also a neat trick to say a man "has an ego" as soon as he defends his gender. The "fragile male ego" is another one of the many negative stereotypes injected into men's lives. Women have egos, too. The Darwin awards are a joke, not a justification for the media to continuously bash males and put females on a pedestal. Lastly, I do not thing one gender or race or anything is smarter than the other, I just think that men these days are treated like black people were in the 60's. We can be called not as smart as women, rapists, woman-beaters, perverts, pedophiles. Men take the blame and are exploited. Our sexuality is vilified and our intelligence is degraded, usually by women who are "experts". No one would ever say or write half of the things about women that western society says and writes about men, just out of respect.

I don't think intelligence has a diffinitive measure as of yet. Most all of us have different strengths in one area and weaknesses in another and some are encompassing in their intelligence only to the point of being a jack of all trades and a master of none. But how do you define the importance of certain strengths and weaknesses. I guess intelligence and beauty are both in the eye of the beholder.

  • Posted By: flowerbee @ 01/25/2008 10:57:39 AM

This is BS, I have never thought a man was smarter than I am. I have never had any doubts about my intelligence and I have never bowed down to any man in any way and I never will. It makes me sad to see this because it just reinforces the myth that men are smarter than women.

  • Posted By: phoenician28 @ 01/25/2008 10:33:09 AM

Race can have a role in intelligence. Psychology shows that some hereditary benefits, such as, knowledge can be greater in some people more than others. Going as deep as race or sex. Try a biology class.

Well there were certainly plenty of people drawn to read and judge this very innocent
article, a fluff piece. I personally love fluff and I am a woman. My better half is a Dr. that loves
football. He knows what he knows as do I .We have very different motives for wanting to
learn anything new. He will only do it if it has the potential to increase his income and I do
most things out of sheer curiosity. I agree with the study that perceived intelligence may be greater with men, but certainly there are a great many exceptions. I know that I am more confident in what I do know than my better half, so we are both exceptions to the rule, as I am sure many responding to this board are, but that is by no means the general rule.

Everyone seems to be ignoring some pretty big facts. Yes, Men due show up more on the extremes of the bell curve. Meaning yes, there are more ultra smart men than women, BUT, it also means there are more ultra dumb men than women. Has anyone considered why this is? I encourage you to google Darwin awards and you will be hard pressed to find many women among the ranks of those awarded. Beside the article isn't about who is smarter, it's about how men and women perceive our given IQs. Unless you want to conduct your own research to refute it, the research indicates that men have more "ego" or think more highly of their IQs than women. I think most of these men are just trying to refute being labeled as "egotistical" or some similar label, when the evidence here supports that they are.

the argument of book smarts vs technology smarts doesn't fly....I'm a female working in the IT industry; I have a degree in Computer Science and also knowledge in Automotive Repair, home building, appliance repair, telephone repair and all the other things robm named. Does that make me smarter than a man? Not necessarily... So I'm not sure what his position is. But I have noticed men tend to take this more personally than females. I'm confident in my knowledge and abilities. Whether or not someone is smarter than me has nothing to do with what's in their pants.
