Men in general (and Lawrence Summers in particular) have to pay a heavy price on the mere hint of suggestion that men are superior. But there are no penalties for portraying the reverse.

Men are victims of feminist double standard. No wonder that boys are performing so poorly in schools. A concerted effort is being made to downgrade men and push them to the fringes of the society.

You are a wise person. White men are the biggest minority; the most discriminated against and minorities are more racist than white people these days. If you are a smoker then you are worth even less.

I believe men think with their brains and don't feel much. Woman feel their hearts and dont think much. They are as different as apples and oranges. Neither are wrong. But the way they use their hearts and brains does show up in health statistics.

Men dont use their heart properly and have a higher risk of heart attach.
Woman dont use their brain properly and have a higher risk of Alzheimer's.

Give me a break. Not all women are the emotional trainwrecks that are shown in the media.

Women are as smart men. Our creator created both genders, and it is written we were all created equal. I
think it has a lot to do with not only how we view our own abilities, but how others, such as parents and
friends percieve and communicate or tell us that we are itntelligent. That along with other factors and variables determine how quote smart we are. Women, have confidence in yourselves, you are special in so so many ways!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are you bringing religion into the discussion?

who was it that said: "Behind every great man there is a greater woman." I think you may find the reverse also to be true. I firmly believe that discoveries are generally made by those with much free time on their hands - such as many children and men :)

What? ZThat had nothing to do with the article.

Wonderful a new study comparing males and females on some trivial issue. Yet another useless waste of time for which arguments over which sex is better may be started. Just leave it be, seriously does it really matter who is smarter. I am male and I have never considered myself to be of high intelligence. I'm not stupid but I'm no Einstein either. As far as the study I have always though the complete opposite of what is says and no I???m not just saying that. I have always felt inferior to girls I went to school with. Then again all the girls I???ve know have proven time and time again that their smart than me. Well that just my thoughts take it as you will.

Okay. I agree. Please casturate me. The feminists have finally convinced me that all men are evil.

    Just kidding!

So everyone thinks men are smarter, but they actually are not due to language skills and emotional intelligence. By the way, how do they measure "language skills" and "emotional intelligence"? I believe there are significant physiological differences between men and women. It's not, because everyone thinks men are smarter. This is absolutely offensive to me that these journalists write this stuff.

Newsweek in general tends to make very broad and often, in my opinion, inaccurate statements based on "studies" that may or may not be representative of the truth. I do agree that men and women have equal intelligence, but I don't agree that the average woman thinks she is less intelligent than her male counterpart. This article initially sounds like it is trying to cheer for women's intelligence being equal, but by the end it is making the argument that while women may have equal IQ's, men still have the upper hand because a "study" said that on average more men than women think they think that men are smarter. I think the article forgets to mention that this is not the case for all women, and certainly not a large portion of us. Also, note that this article never gives any figures, so "more" men could be 51% of men versus 49% of women. I would be interested to find out what demographics they studied and the number of people they interviewed.

It does not surprise me that most (and I believe that most is defined by only a few percentage points) women think that men are smarter than women. The larger part of the adult population is older. This is a population of women who grew up with working Dad's and stay at home Mothers. It is not difficult to see that these women would have equated work outside the home with greater intelligence. After all, after all what's so difficult about cooking and cleaning, most girls of that generation were helping their mothers in these "chores" by the *** years. "If a kid can do something, how much intelligence can it take?" This would be reinforced if there was a male sibling who worked with Dad on the car or lawn mower. Fixing thing would appear to require more intelligence that vaccuming. We must remeber that intelligence is an indicator or our capabilities, not necessarily our actvities.

the fact remains that men have done most or is it all the most significant discoveries which are very important to our livelihood to this moment so a study the IQS is not true to this moment.Bye for now.

The Hindu Pundits of India had known thousands of years ago the current research that you have reported. Therefore, every form of women is worshipped as a diety in Hinduism. A woman can use her superiour motional strength combined with superior IQ to punch a devastating hole in men's peace of mind, mostly by the dreaded silent treatment. It stirs up all the male insecurities. During that period, a woman is appears so invincible, mighty and powerful that inspired men to depict her as Kali (please view it by googling it).

Re: the comments right before mine... did you not read the article?
It says that men and women's IQ are about EQUAL, but that both men and women tend to PERCEIVE men as smarter. How is that dumping on the men? It just says that men have more self-esteeem. Obviously the latter has to do with society in general, and the traditional roles of men and women. Would be interested to see what happens in 50 or 100 years.

Here is a thought---every man and woman is unique. Don't waste your brain power on what a study or other people or a stereotype is telling you you are or are supposed to be. We can only hope the folks who want to place men and women into boxes don't breed so the intelligence of the population is elevated for us all.

This isn't even consistent with neuroscience or other studies.. This is like that study reported in 'Psychology Today' that determined kids are better off without fathers because father don't do anything and just eat up the food. Seriously! No Joke! *Laugh* and look at the intentionally repugnant title with a picture of the white boy scratching his head in this article. It demonstrates a clear lack of respect for the male gender. The writer and editor must be some real aholes to parade this piece around in their magazine. I thought they had respect for all genders and races. Nope. Not the bald headed white boy.

(Continued???) I have reviewed the current school curriculum myself and it is much different than it was 20 years ago. Much of it puts less emphasis on hard core math and science, and focuses more on reading and writing. Even math is now wrapped up into story problems instead of symbol exercises, even in 1st and 2nd grade. Boys' brains develop linguistic skills later then girls, but boys' logic and spatial abilities develop sooner. It is not surprising boys now struggle more than ever in math and science, but there really is no excuse for it. I find it interesting that despite the current results, the media and social engineers maintain that girls need support in education career, but boys don???t need any. I believe the reason for it is to fulfill the social agenda that resonates with the theme of this article. (Continued???)

Reading some of these comments??? A woman actually invented E=MC^2 and a man (Einstein) got credit for it? It took Einstein 20 years to figure out relativity? It was established 1905 when he was 26. You are telling me if he was smart ???like a women??? he would have figured it out sooner? I don???t get these arguments and they are kind of silly. This really doesn???t have much to do with Einstein. It has to do with sexual bias and a promotion of tactics to bring another gender down psychologically. That is what I believe is really happening and it seems to now starting at a young age with boys (schools, kid shows, etc). That is really the point I am trying to make.

If men are such dopes and women far more superior then how have men managed to contribute so much intellectually in the past and YTD in a gender competitive society? Yes boys in general are having trouble in school, and their proficiency scores have dropped like a rock while girls have improved or remained constant, but I believe this is due to the fact that the schools have restructured curriculum to favor girls while leaving boys in the dust.
