The problem is realy just thinking about anything. stop thinking and the problem is solved. let your mind go blank and you won't have an opinion on anything. we are all just worthless beings that probably doesn't deserve to exist but God has mercy and let's us exist. Noah found grace in God when God planned to destroy mankind forever and he granted mercy and allowed us another chance. look what we have done with it. we totaly screwed everything up, like they did before the flood. history repeating itself and our destruction will be like before but with fire instead of water.
Skeptic you probably have Kansas song "Dust in the Wind" on replay on your iPod lol
What is the big deal with intelligence anyway. or strength or whatever. As far as I can see it we are all a bunch of dust glued together around a skeleton of dust. dust. period. from dust to dust. dirt. does it realy matter who is smarter or who thinks they are smarter. It's like arguing that granite thinks it's smarter or prettier or whatever than marble. we are dust of the earth and nothing more. we are glued together piles of gooey slime with dried husks that will eventualy turn to piles of dry dust. big deal
So frogster you think having conversations about tmz or extra or one of those silly shows makes you intelligent? Please, I don't care if you went to the mall, or you bought a cute outfit, that's nonsense to me.
Frogster almost makes a salient point - one can talk about current events, or politics, and still say absolutely nothing of value or insight. Important topics can be discussed by stupid people - they're just discussed stupidly. Additionally (though it's less likely) one can discuss celebrities and make intelligent observations about human nature, the chimerical value of fame, and what it is in people that makes so many of them fascinated by the minutia of the lives of people whose worth in the larger human scheme is all but nil.
why is alright for women to post this type of article or research, but could you imagine if a man had written a study about another man doing research proven that men are better at everything? this article does nothing to prove that women are smarter, but only to prove that men are less average. i think this is bullshit. women are sexist.
I feel fairly sure that you're not commenting on the same article the rest of us are.
Women are equal, there's a distinct difference between us, but equal none the less, besides i would bet serious money that a women with an IQ of 80, who is physically superior, ( BOMBSHELL,HOTTIE) will go much further in the world, than your "Joe bookworm" with an IQ of 140-150!
Go much further toward what?
Overall I think this is a very well written article. However, what is confusing to me is why women are credited with having more emotional intelligence than men. Generally it seems to me that women over analyze how they feel, which doesn't constitute more intelligence, it just means they worry more.
It sounds as if you assume the way you're doing it is the correct way. Is it at all possible that you (and even men in general) underanalyze? Something to consider.
Baloney. Please stop eroding our girls' confidence in school. I am a former science teacher with an honors science degree, and there is a definite confidence gap in boys and girls in schools. I would not let my daughter read an article that calls her less intelligent based on her being a girl, nor would I perpetuate this naysaying in my own classroom. Best regards, sir.
Reading comprehension, ma'am. The article does not say females are less intelligent than males.
This is such a stupid argument! Of course only a woman would write this because they have some sort of inferiority complex. It's scientific FACT that men and women use different sides of their brain more than the other. Men are better at maths and sciences (the logical part); Women are better at skills like writing and communication (the creative part). They compliment each other. But since this lovely lady decided to stir the pot... When you ladies can build cities, nations, engineer anything, and invent everything for the next 6000 years of written history. We'll gladly pass the torch. Mike, Chicago.
We can. But I can guarantee that you and other men aren't going to enjoy being in the position women were kept in for most of the last 6000 years. Property rights? Nope. Reproductive freedom? Sorry. Legal rights? Try again later. Right to attend institutions of higher learning? Forget it. Right to get a job in any field that's open to the other sex? Scratch that one. Right to decide where or how to live, or what to do with your own sexuality, your own body? Outta luck, pal.
No. You're not going to enjoy trading places at all.
Why bother with trying to learn facts about peoples' perception of their own abilities and why they perceive them that way when it doesn't mean anything other than you think you can or you think you can't. The facts, accurate or not, just don't change anything. Thousands of years of human history and cultures and the upbringing and the Holy Scriptures being taught that men are the "man of the house" and other such teachings are going to have an impact on the way we think we are in whatever area of life regardless of test scores, IQ, or other methods of scoring ones capabilities. God made Adam, then Eve, to help him and be his companion in life. The apostle Paul stated than women are not allowed to speak in church, that it is shameful, and any questions should be asked later, at home, not in the church. That would indicated that, for all areas of life, than God intended men to be above women for whatever reasons which may or may not seem justified, they are there notheless and it stands to reason that the Amish have it right. Get over the whole Gender War already. It doesn't even matter who is or is not smarter or whether they think they are or not. Men are men and women are women and whatever one man or woman thinks of themselves or others is only an opinion that cannot truly prove anything other than the fact that everyone one has an opinion and the fact that they even have opinions suggest intelligence to some extent and that is usualy enough. If you have a job and can do the job, you don't need to be more intelligent than the job requires. If you want a job, you either can or cannot do it. If you think you can and can't, you won't be able to. If you think you can, and are forced to do it because you need the money, and find that you can do it and was wrong in thinking you couldn't do it, then you know that you were wrong in thinking you couldn't do it. But this applies to one thing you tried to do, and does not necessarily indicate future success or failure at anything. Every task performed is different and one may or may not think they can do it and even if they think they can, they may or may not able able to. It comes down to whether you are willing to try it or not that really matters, not what you THINK you can do. It doesn't matter what you think you can do if you don't try it, you will not know one way or the other. This type of research, in my opinion, is just someone's way of trying to justify their enourmous salary.
Yes. Goodness, what's wrong with us? Why bother trying to understand other people at all? Why bother thinking about anything, come to that? Whew. That's a load off.
yahoo!
another god lover.
you have ne credibility here buddy, believing in god directly means you choose to be illogical. I have no respect for those who choose to live in ignorance.
This is a biased study riddled with Feminazi propaganda and their male enablers toting their misandry about, pushing their twisted agenda and breaking up families.
Feminism is not about equality, it???s about Orwellian style entitlement and superiority. The educational system favors women, and the ignorant masses are more then willing to ignore it. When a girl shows their independence it???s encouraged, for the boys it???s the half ass solution called Ritalin. Of course men are going to seem stupid when you drug them for most of their lives instead dealing with actual problems.
Oh well feminazi's continue turning people into mindless sheep, and pretend there isn't something wrong with society at large.
"Of course men are going to seem stupid when you drug them for most of their lives instead dealing with actual problems."
Whereas you use posts to Newsweek to seem stupid. Feminism has always been the struggle to have society treat women as of equal worth to men. Not better. Not identical. Of equal worth as human beings.
This study is very limited in scope, and not looking at the broader picture. Men and women are different. That's just how it is. These types of studies should quit trying to minimize this fact, and put down men. It's sexist, and completely unprofessional. Each gender has it's strengths and limitations. Men shouldn't be under such scrutiny for being confident. If everyone had a limited notion of their own abilities, nobody would attempt the impossible, or reach for something out of their grasp. The sad part of this story is that women (apparently) don't have more self confidence; for this I blame our ever-disintegrating society and moral character. If these geniuses want to solve problems, they should quit perpetuating the competitions, jealousies, and hatred between sexes, races, classes, and nations. Stop the self-fulfilling prophesies; most of us have more goals in life than to get even with or out-do so-and-so because we feel slighted by something someone in the news tells us they did. I can't believe the people conducting these studies were given grants to ask people if they feel smart. They're the ones that should have their heads examined.
These studies are valid examinations of how we see ourselves vs. how we measure up objectively (at least, as objectively as possible regarding such a volatile issue as intelligence). The issue isn't men being taken to task for confidence; the issue is why are women less confident about their intelligence than, objectively, they should be, and why are men more confident about their intelligence than, objectively, they should be. That is, the issue is lack of confidence vs. overconfidence regarding intellect, and how it may be based in gender roles. These are examinations of culture, gender, and bias that don't have easy answers, but that doesn't make the questions unworthy of being asked. Asking these questions helps us understand the human animal, and that is a valuable goal.
melmakar - I too am from the planet Schizlak and I agree with you. This planet is beyond hope. Keep the peace on our planet so our intelligence won't be insulted by this planet. Much appreciating the sarcasm and hilarity of your post. Thank You, I needed the smile.
JOHN IN THE SOUTH needs to review history. If he would, he'd find out how many women were rebuffed by men and forced to 'stay in the home.' The few who would be allowed to show their talents, many times had to do so under the disguise of being a man. An example of this turned into a movie is the life of Frederick Chopin wh's lover had to take the pen name of a man to get her writing pubilished. Take some well intended advice, read outside your field.
But if he strays from his field, who'll watch the sheep?
that's one example!! k
