The male ego;
When we look at human kind's dogged determination to discover, conquer, control, amass, and take on all on-comers. Which sex was at the forefront of it all... the MALE or the FEMALE?????????

Now those of you reading this be honest with yourselves. What sex HAD the balls to sail out into the open sea and discover the world??
Please don???t lecture me on some unknown female that discovered 'timbuckfreakintoo'.

Which SEX possesses the lion share of having been the first to reach the highest 'this', or swim the longest 'that', or fly into space, or the first to discover......etc etc

Which is the richest sex in the world? And why are they?
Which sex has the audacity to claim lands (in some cases illegally) and then fight psychopathic megalo maniacs...without fear???

The fact is that through out history and within the above domains MEN have been the governing sex without question!

What enables a MAN to do this? Clearly the evidence suggests we are just as smart as women......I suggest that it is our EGO our self belief that 'WE CAN'. It is the thing that drives me ...the belief that ???I CAN???.

Why is it that a man was able to sail around the world alone first (Slocum 1898) almost a hundred years before Naomi James in 1979 managed the same feet. And yet we hear many women sing the praises of how great she is....BIG DEAL ...YAWN!!!! Slocum beat her by 100years roughly.A whole generation of people lived and died before Naomi james managed the same feat. And please don???t say to me that women were house bound with their home duties. There were lots of lesbians with time to spare and the masculinity to pull this task off . The answer; THE MALE EGO. Because we think we can...therefore we CAN

As I was saying, before you say ???oh we were repressed by the MALE dominated culture and therefore we could not reach our potential (which is true by the way) Id like to say that it was the male ego that repressed you........WHY??? I am a Psychologist and administer IQ tests to children most everyday. Anecdotally, I can say that there is absolutely no difference in the mean (average) IQ of boys and girls. There is also no difference between ethnic groups, such as blacks and whites (another commom misperception). There are many narrow abilities used to measure full scale intelligence. I have noticed that girls, in general, girls score are slighly higher crystalized intelligence, while boys score slightly higher in fluid intelligence. That does not mean all children score this way. Any kind of statement that generalizes an entire gender or ethnic group is absolutely false and should be dismissed. Those statements only help create the notion that one human being is better than another, a notion that needs to be admonished. With that said, IQ is really meaningless in daily life. There are many attributes, such as social skills, effort, or attitude, that help lead to success. I have found that these factors are far more predictive of one's success in life than a full scale IQ score.

The real truth behind this article is about selling a bunch of crap to gullible people. America has become a nation of ???dumbed down" people because they will believe anything that the News media and the government tells them to believe. The real truth is this the 1) media: is pro democratic and ???personally I think??? if you print something you have to show both sides of the story not just one, but seeing that truth would scare the hell out of the American People!!. 2) Government: wants you to be stupid so they can pull the "wool over your eyes" everyday and get away with those fat juicy paychecks that they are unwilling to give up to save the economy... GO FIGURE!! One year working for a government position gives them a paycheck for the rest of their lives and a nice 401k that the American people could only dream of having. If you can??? go get educated so that you know how government really works. That???s the issue in society today. You may have an IQ but you don???t have the RIGHT information on government and media LIES!!! Democrats thrive on ignorance, Republicans thrive on money, and the American people are the ones left holding the bill. The only thing left for the American people to do is to stop listening to BS promises and reading the media lies and start using these so called IQ???s. If men are smarter then women or vice versa who cares!! Just use those skills to think for yourselves, and tell the media and the government what you think will help make our country thrive again. It only takes one voice to say it???it will take the rest for it to be heard!

Btw someone posted that Hillary Clinton shows a high IQ???PFT???yeah how to rip off the American people and get away with it!! Along with her husband!!! They both should be in jail for treason. Be careful what you wish for!!!

Referring to my reply: This is simply not possible to even comprehend. The very difinition of smart is not clear and can mean different things to different people. There is book-smart and common-sense and street smarts. To even begin to ask the question regarding men or women being smarter or thinking they are smarter is premature unless the term smart is more clearly defined and it is somewhat of a subjective term than in itself may not hold a definitive answer.

Let me See?? Could there be Gender Bias in the Schools!! Could there be more Female Teachers than Male? Only about 35 to 1, for you women Math Teachers.....

Curious what types of people were studied, I myself have no problem knowing that I am intelligent and yes I am a woman, I have been told I was stupid or I can't do something because I am female , most of the woman I know are very intelligent and know it , whether it be a stay at home mom , a single girl trying to make it out in the world or married nine to fiver.
The men around us who use ego to show brain power never come off as more inteeligent , more irritating maybe but we as woman have to find ways around these boy club members to reach higher levels in our jobs or business ventures.
As for children , most mothers I know look at there daughters as typically smarter than their sons, I agree this could be sending a poor message to both sexes as they develop, but the males always seem to do worse in school and have moderate behavioral problems.
So unless they studied meek, quiet, and shy woman as a whole the study is really missing the big picture.

Talonted.....um, ok, ever heard of cultural factors? a patriarchial system where, for a long time, women didn't have access to the same levels of education as men? age old societies were men dominated the public realm, while women remained in the home....men controlling the extent to which women could get involved in worldy events? literary canons being selected and shaped by men? even if, for example, there were women philosophers who resisted the status quo at the time, do u think a society dominated by men who not only had negative stereotypes about women, but also actively oppressed resistance to a patriarchal society, would allow a woman to be cannonized and deemed a highly intellectual philosopher?
you say "I haven't seen one well known chick to be on the list"... well just because u make a small list of famous men and you happen to be ignorant of many great female intellectuals which, due to changes in society, tend to be more modern examples than the ancient ones you are referring to, doesn't prove a damn thing. learn to think more thorourghly about the generalized statements you make.
oh and p.s. nightowl, men and women use their brains the same, however the division between the man's right and left hemisphere is a bit more pronounced. these supposed differences in spatial differentiation, math and language are also EXTREMELY SMALL differences. Did you also know that if you tell a test group that men, for example, tend to do a little better at a math portion, that you will get a self-fulfilling prophecy and women will end up doing worse than a control group that isn't told that? both men and women subconsciously maintain social stereotypes. the differences could also probabley be explained as differences in how boys and girls are raised and how they develop certain skills, which consequently change the way the brain operates.. so we should be looking at the nurturing aspect of society over the minimal physical differences.
i also see that alot of ppl are saying "well, you dont see many women engineers, mathmaticians, etc" as evidence that there aren't as many intelligent women. well that right there just hows a bias for the kind of intelligence being valued. any time a career is gendered masculine by society, it is considered to be more intellectual. for example, look at art history--- all the great masters, the great artistic genius were men. but when slowly women were allowed to take up this profession and the entire profession became feminized, it is suddenly not as respected as an intellectual endeavour. But the profession didn't change, just the gender of the players! that pattern of job gendering and its value in society still happens today.
