This dear young man is suddenly dead at 28. It's too sad to contemplate. How sorrowful and agonizing this must be for all his family...especially his parents. I have a son close to Heath's age and if anything happened to him,I would not want to draw another breath.

I totally agree with you about minding our own business.. And about the checks and balance system,, you could throw more time and money away on trying to regulate prescriptions but,, that would a)invade privacy b)never stop a drug addict c)waste valuable time that could be used trying to help people rather than control them!!!!!!!!

    God Bless you Keith Ledger

I truly agree with you ghostinnexus everyone needs to think about his friends and family. And for those who are continuing to act like this is nothing have a heart. As I have said before just because he was an actor does not mean he was not a regular person like us.It is tragic for someone to pass away whether you are a hollywood actor or not.Let him rest in peace and I can not stress enough to please respect those who are mourning him.You may or may not have gone through something like this personally but regardless he was a human being who was loved and will be missed by all who loved him and those of us who were fans of his.If you do not care to hear or read anymore news about this tragedy do not even bother to read the articles and make nasty hateful comments.Let it go and move on and respect those who have compassion for his family and friends and actually have caring things to say about him.

Alprazolam is Xanax, not something like Valium.

    • Posted By: Clau5271 @ 01/24/2008 3:23:40 PM

      XANAX IS LIKE VALIUM..

    • Posted By: peewee123 @ 01/24/2008 3:08:43 PM

      These are similar in effect!

    • Posted By: peewee123 @ 01/24/2008 3:07:50 PM

yes, they are similar in their effects.

    • Posted By: Cathie5 @ 01/24/2008 3:06:20 PM

Janetala, Xanax and Valium are both brand names for types of drugs in a class called benzodiazapines, which are all Central Nervous System Depressants. In other words, an overdose causes breathing to stop. They are VERY similar, often used interchangeably.

This saddens me deeply only because these Dr's give them all these drugs and him and others not knowing what a deadly combination these drugs have when mixing meds. I am so sorry for his daughter and family. I lost my mother to Major Depression in 1980 and she didn't even overdose of her meds but blew her brains out from the delusions of the side affects of the medications. Please save Britney and Lindsay's because a few of them out there are next. Also, these Dr's giving them all these drugs need to be liable for their actions. There has to be a system thru the Dr's/ Pharamacies to alert the techs what meds they already have. Going to all these different Dr's they get all the meds and no one cares. I am so hurt by this loss. Poor daughter is going to go through hell. I was 11 when I loss my mother and lived in California with my dad and stepmom and I knew if I was there with my two sisters and mom, she would not of done what she did. Not true as through counseling I learned it was not my fault. I hope to reach out to Brit one day soon, help her to get her kids back and weed out the troubled people she surrounds herself with. they are only making matters worst. My younger sister went through alot losing a mother and not being able to bond with my step mother made it hard for her. She has 5 kids, in which I had to take 3 of them. I helped her to get herself together and gave her the girls back. My nephew is now 15 yrs old and has been through alot with his mom and choose to stay with me and his cousins ( My two daughters) . It took my sister almost 3 yrs to get it together. Family is very omportant when someone is depressed and having emotional and mental problems. Alot of times families turn their backs on each other when they are really needed. It was so tough for us and alot of family turned their back on my little sister but I stuck it out with her. It's only fair to give that person a chance and sometimes like for Mr. Ledger being in the lime light it's harder because you have noisy people in your face all the time. It makes it messy to get it together because everyone has judged you because of the tabliods. They don't have a fighting chance, it's so sad. They are so human but the public makes them untouchable. I grew up in a house were my father being in the music business kept us out of the lime light. We knew big people but we didn't let our fathers success make us how the Hilton's , Kardashi's, Richie etc, live under their families name and fame. I could of knowing my father help Motown become what it is today!

Personally, I believe that we all need to get out of each other's business. I don't care how famous a person is, that is no excuse to invade their privacy, say things that aren't true, and even if true, it is their life and no one else's. The news, the gossip hounds (papparizzi) and anyone who has a tongue to wag should just keep their mouths shut! If they were in the that position, they would absolutely feel the same way. For example, a thief steals from someone and then someone else steals from the thief. The Thief actually has the nerve to get angry that someone stole from him or her. It is past time that we all take a very close look at our behavior towards one another. Most people are coveteous, they envy others their blessings in life and do their best to take that person down and find whatever "dirt" they can to make them the type of human they are and it is just not right. As a nation of people who once cared about one another, the opposite is true to the extreme and it needs to stop. How far are we really willing to go to ruin another person's reputation? The people doing this are doing it for money and because they can and get their kicks out of kicking other while they are down. I agree with most of what is posted here and I say it is high time that we pay more attention to our own lifes, families and reputations than to others. I am sick and tired of those who must make others look bad so they can feel better about themselves! WE ARE NOT THE JUDGE, GOD IS OUR JUDGE AND THE JUDGMENT YOU METE OUT TO OTHERS WILL BE METED OUT TO YOU! JUST STOP ALREADY. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. LEAVE THIS MAN AND HIS FAMILY ALONE IN THEIR GRIEF JUST AS YOU WOULD WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE!

PEOPLE, IT IS TIME AND PAST TIME FOR US TO GROW UP AND GET A GRIP!

"Let's start blaming the pharamaceutical companies and the doctors who are just in it to make money and don't care at all about people becoming addicted to these medications".....OR people should start taking some personal responsibility for their own health before playing the "blame game". Yes, Heath's death is tragic, and I sincerely feel for his family and friends. However, it's a little early to start "blaming" companies and health care professionals for his death. Do people become addicted to medications? Yes, absolutely. Are there warnings on prescription bottles as well as the package inserts provided, by law, with each prescription that someone receives? Why, yes, there are. I'm so tired of everyone pointing a finger at pharmaceutical companies and doctors when ever something tragic like this happens. For all anyone knows, the prescriptions that were found in his apartment were from several different doctors that were not made aware of the other drugs that he was currently taking. As for the phamaceutical companies, the last time I checked they weren't ever claiming to be non-profit companies and more people are saved and helped each year with the drugs that they make than are killed.

This is exactly why we need a checks and balance system to prevent so many doctors prescribing meds to the same person.

  • Posted By: ledgerfan @ 01/24/2008 3:22:34 PM

I wonder if the doctor talked to him about the combination of drugs and unsafe doses. If he was prescrbed medicine by more than one doctor than he probably wouldn't know they could be dangerous if mixed improperly. I hope we find out soon what the cause was so we can all stop speculating. His poor family needs closure. All of us (his fans) could also use some closure.

Just a note to explain that if someone wants pills all they have to do is go to different Doctors to receive as many different drugs as they want. Most people will not tell a Doctor that they are on other medications so they can receive more, some people have as many as 10 Doctors, if you have the money you can do this.On another note we do need to wait and see what the medical examiner has to say.

    • Posted By: cyndimarie @ 01/24/2008 3:12:23 PM

But what if ONE Doctor is prescribing all of the medication? At some point the medical field should be held accountable for contributing to a society addicted to pills.

      • Posted By: heartofgold1972 @ 01/24/2008 3:21:14 PM

If one Doctor is doing this he needs to be turned in, but for some reason it all has to do with money not the health of someone. What a price to pay.

First of all...people must really not understand anxiety..if people could just "buck up" as someone said, then noone would never feel anxious...and nice suggestion..lets deal with anxiety by becoming potheads and alcholics!!! you gotta be kidding!

  • Posted By: chimichangasrule @ 01/24/2008 3:17:46 PM

People that's y it's important to be detailed and honest with your health practioners, it's not always the doctor's fault and innocently we cause harm to ourselves. Many things could have taken place. In one interview he admitted to taking two pills because he felt one Ambien did not work, he was having a lot of trouble sleeping. This could have been just a simple tragic human error.

  • Posted By: redhot @ 01/24/2008 3:17:21 PM

What in the hell is Jack Nickelson doing in his car after taking Ambien???!!! Almost went off a cliff??? That is such an idiotic statement to make. The fact that Ambien works so quickly is a Godsent to people who can't sleep on their own. We don't have an answer as to just what Heath took. Was it intentional or accident? We will never really know. All I know is he was a great actor just coming into his own. He did a fantastic job in BrokeBack Mountain, a wonderful story that made me sob. I am a 57 yr.old women and all I know is love is love and it doesn't matter between 2 males or 2 woman or 1 man and 1 woman!! How corageous was he to take on that role?!!! Leave him alone, the man has died and his daughter will grow up not knowing her father and that in itself is true death.

Health Ledger's death is a shock to me. It will get quite a long time for everyone of us I think to get used to the fact that we are not going to see him anymore. My heart goes out to his family and his daughter esp. Also, I feel so sorry for Michelle Williams since she would now have to be the one to tell this little angel that daddy is not going to come home anymore to play with her, hold her or watch her grow up. This is such a tragedy. May god give enough strength to his family, friends and his fans to overcome this situation and remember and cherish him for the most humble, polite and nice guy that he was. We would forever miss you Heath Ledger. May your soul rest in peace:-(
