Obviously I must watch too many crime dramas, but doesn't anyone else find some of the witness testimony to be a little odd? Would a housekeeper really just go into his bedroom, and to change a light bulb in the bathroom. If you knocked on the door and no one answers you assume it's okay to process, maybe she though he wasn't home, but once she saw him in bed, she keep on going through to change the light bulb. doeDoes e

Heath Ledger's death, like all sudden deaths of those so young, is certainly a tragedy. We hear only statistics until someone so famous and in the public eye passes, but that's the way of things. That aside, Heath Ledger was a talented young man with a winning smile, and I hope and believe (like many people do, I think) that his death was an accident-- that his intention was never to kill himself, only to fall asleep. It's more than possible that he had become accustomed to his regular dosage of medication, and that having become so dependent upon it, felt he needed more of it to slip into unconsciousness. Speculation is part of the human condition. People form opinions, judgements and theories without all the facts because we will never truly know them, I think. We can only wonder what happened to Heath until the final results of his autopsy are complete, and only imagine what wonderful things he'd have done with his life, his career. His family doesn't mourn alone, and his daughter will someday know that his fans, both rabid and casual, miss him.

Comment:: First of all my condolences to 'Heath Ledger's family; may he rest in peace..
Next; my comment to Insomnia sufferer:
You should check into a reputable 'Detox Center' immediately or a little sooner so that you could get detoxed and get all that stuff you are taking out of your system; you cannot do it on your own for the temptations would be to great to hunt someone to order some more for you if your primary physician would not do it.
And don't say that no reputable DR. would not order the drugs for you for they do not neither want nor have a desire for you to suffer for their job is to treat you for whatever you are complaining with, and then to help you get rid of it. No they wont give you multiple drugs at one time, but will prescribe others if the last one given does not work over a period of time. But PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, check yourself into a 'Treatment Center' for addictive Causes without delay. Noted by "Who Cares 4U72.".. 01/24/2008.

Marijuana may not result in overdose diseases or death, but I knew a guy in the 70s who took LSD and became an ORANGE!!!

Oh, Paxil can cause drowsiness initally that is why it is prescribed at night....dear....

I agree... we are all in Oz or La La land. I know it. Does anyone know where the door is? a window?

AH, I found a WINDOW on my COMPUTER!! I'm gone!!!

I did enjoy this spirited and convoluted rant and forum, but all in all, it's back to the saddle for me....

Happy Trails...Heath! Happy Trails to youooooo!

i feel sad to his family and friends, who is to say that he took them knowingly on purpose, maybe he was down and thought just one more and the one more pushed him over the edge, but mixing all that combination is a time bomb waiting to happen. i take tylenol 3 and lorazapam (ativan) but accordingly to what my dr says, but also with all the pills u can get on the net nowadays u don't need a script at least in the US, not in Canada, well i have never seen any ads from here, here we can only go to one dr, and getting scripts filled out is like pulling teeth at least with mine. May God be with his family and friends and all the media stop milling around and making assumption as to how this happened, accidents do happen, i know i have been there and was very lucky i had God on my side, lee

Wow, It's very sad that Heath Ledger died. He was a great actor, I remember first seeing him in A Knights Tale; he was so good in evrything he did. When he did Brokeback Mountain it was a big risk, but he proved he didn't care what anybody thought and took the controversy in stride. He had a long and successful carreer ahead of him, and it is just too bad that his life was cut short by drugs. Prescription drugs are just as dangerous as illegal ones, a fact that has been learned through this tragedy. He probably never knew what he was taking could lead to death, unfortunatly now his daughter has to go though life without a father because of his ignorance. You will be missed Heath, God bless and remember us up there, cause we'll be remembering you down here.

I understand that it is "news" when a celebrity dies unexpectadly. I certainly had an interest in this case as I particularly enjoyed Mr. Ledger's portrayals of his various roles, with the exception of Brokeback Mountain which I had no interest in, although I am told he was great. I am curious though, why does the above report mention a rolled up twenty without a trace of illegal drugs on it? Were I reporting the story I would focus more on why the medical community would prescribe drugs in a potentialy lethal combination or, perhaps, what this loss will mean to his daughter. It has been clearly established that the man was not on illegal drugs, and that he was a doting father who took interestin and spent time with his child, but all the reporting seems suprised and disappointed that they couldn't find something seedy and sordid, so much so, they have to mention the possibility existed in order, I would imagine, to titilate, rather than comisserate with a child who lost her father or family who lost such an important member or even the toll a divorce takes on a man when clearly the american public cannot empathize with. Why look for the slime under the rock over and over again? This rock was a diamond in the sand. Clean, beatiful and altogether too rare.

Do you people not read the labels on your scripts. They clearly warn you to not interact them with other meds. I don't agree with the database theory because do you really want the govt and phamacists telling you what you should and should not take? If you have a problem with med say your sleeping pill isn't working and you go to your doctor and get something else prescribed ---- by your database theory the pharmacy and govt will not fill it and let you have the new drug........ common sense has to be applied and you can't get a script for this. I am not ragging on Heath at all but on the people that want to blame the doctors and pharmacys and want the govt to decide what is best for them to take. NO! I have enough sense to not mix stuff and not take things in combinations..... it's called education. I don't think Heath was stupid or did this intentional but calling for more control from the govt on your life is not the answer.

    • Posted By: SK1016 @ 01/24/2008 2:46:40 PM

A checks and balance system can only help...if you are going to the same doctor, he can note on your chart why he is presribing a new prescription if one doesn't work for you...if you have to see more than one doctor and have nothing to hide then they should all know about eachother anyway...if you are not shopping from doctor to doctor then there is no problem. As the government being in our business, THEY ALREADY ARE ANYWAY!!!!

    • Posted By: Bob Pomeroy @ 01/24/2008 2:39:41 PM

Read the labels on our scripts? All medicine comes with an incomprenhensible boiler plate label written by lawyers trying to protect drug manufacturers from liability for their product. Reading the label is a courtroom defense, not something the averge person can readily understand. That's the job of the doctor and the pharmacist. Why do so many commentators here want to figure out why the deceased is to blame? before the toxicology results are available and interpreted? Call him a drug addict when the preliminary toxicology report found no evidence of what you mean by drug addict. It's because you want to believe things are working as they should and prefer ignorance to information that they are not working. Good luck to you in the office I tried to consult (see earlier posting).

    • Posted By: Fallen Angel @ 01/24/2008 2:46:29 PM

That's because some of us feel that any loss of life is something to mourn , even people like you who obviously do'nt...

thats *** up. god forbid something happen to a family member of yours, see how you feel then.

  • Posted By: heidiprl @ 01/24/2008 2:46:18 PM

he should be remember for what he did as a great actor not for what happened. If it was an accident or not, the only one that knew is him. He should rest in peace now.

I really don't understand why there are so many questions as to the drug factor in Heath Ledger's death. Why speculate over something that at this point and time makes no difference. The thing that we sould all be concerned about is the feelings of those he left behind, not how he left them. They have enough to deal with in their grief. We should not add to this by trying to guess at something we know nothing about. A bright light in the entertainment field has been put out and I am deeply sorry for this loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who loved him.

    • Posted By: hidhowhite @ 01/24/2008 2:46:09 PM

Have you considered the possibility that its not the media, but the greiving family, who would like to know the exact cause of death? Of course the media will get what it can out of this. But anyone who's lost a loved one knows that the question of "why" is always there.

The two other actors who died from drugs within the same 24 hours as Heath were each about 25 years old. We need some serious serious meaning in our lives to stop the despair of emptiness.

It is sad---we lose yet another person to the ravages of drugs. That damn Xanax is a powerful drug---and very addicting. I was addicted to benzodiazipines (Valium, Xanax) in the late 90's. It took me five years and a stint at a detox facility for three months to get off of them. It is sad----parents---talk to your kids about this---it is so easy to start taking (and getting) these drugs!!

  • Posted By: kristyathome @ 01/24/2008 12:40:57 PM

Regardless of what kind of drugs/medications, prescription or otherwise, this is a suicide. Maybe not intentional, but any rational person has the sense to take medications as prescribed, and to inform any prescribing physician of other drugs you are taking. This doesn't make it any less sad or tragic, but please! Excusing this behavior is unconscionable.

    • Posted By: dede5775 @ 01/24/2008 12:51:39 PM

It can not be a suicide if it is not intentional. It is refered to as an accidental overdose. Futhermore, it is possible for a doctor to overlook a drug inter-action. If it had not been for a top-notch pharmacists, who was watching my fathers meds as he filled them, my Dad would have taken a combination that would have caused his death. That is why it is important to fill all scripts and inform your pharmacy of all over-the- counter meds that you may take.

      • Posted By: actuallymethim @ 01/24/2008 2:43:39 PM

no one has to make an excuse his behavior Ms Kristy.................he was a grown man, He doesnt owe you or anyone else a reason for what he does. Especially not you.

  • Posted By: rstone21 @ 01/24/2008 2:25:00 PM

He was a drug addict! He may have had sleep problems like we all do, but the fact is he had such a smagasboard of pills from, muscle relaxers like the Diazapam, to anti-axeity that he was a user who understood that if you travel like he does you can't carry any sort of illegal drugs, so whats the next best thing get so percription, which are basically systhetic forms of most of the drugs known as illegal. I hate when people act like it was an slip where he took one to many, the fact is he probablly has been on these meds for awhile and biult such and immunity that he was bringing himself to the edge of death probablly every time, like most heroin user's or what have you.

    • Posted By: apriljjWhite @ 01/24/2008 2:43:22 PM

Regardless of what he was, the problem still remains that he had to have gotten prescriptions for all those drugs from professionals. Just like a drug dealer on the street who would be found accountable for giving out drugs don't you think the same standards should be givven to someone who was trained to know what combinations shouldn't be taken together. And on top of that all the bottles were found pretty much full of the prescription, so it was not like he took a whole bottle of anything. But without the results from the blood toxicity report which will not be available for still a few more days no one can know what caused his death. So maybe you shouldn't be so quick to call him or anyone else a drug addict just yet!
