49 million dead since 1973 in the United States ALONE. There was a march to protest this Genocide the same day. But we are so worried about what caused a 28 year old to kill himself. What a statement for where we are as a country.

How many times are you going to post this? Geesh, give it a bloody rest, will 'ya?

How do we really know what kind of person he was. He was an actor, someone we pay to entertain us. If his name was Joe Smith would this be news? Not likely.

I did not expect some people being so rude! Can society forgot about what a dead loved one is? There is a father and family members back in Australia in mourning. Some comments posted here are very innapropiate. Ledger was a very sensitive actor as stated by Ang Lee, his director in "Brokeback Mountain". As human beings we have t o respect other people sentiments, let him rest in peace.

I understand that it is "news" when a celebrity dies unexpectadly. I certainly had an interest in this case as I particularly enjoyed Mr. Ledger's portrayals of his various roles, with the exception of Brokeback Mountain which I had no interest in, although I am told he was great. I am curious though, why does the above report mention a rolled up twenty without a trace of illegal drugs on it? Were I reporting the story I would focus more on why the medical community would prescribe drugs in a potentialy lethal combination or, perhaps, what this loss will mean to his daughter. It has been clearly established that the man was not on illegal drugs, and that he was a doting father who took interestin and spent time with his child, but all the reporting seems suprised and disappointed that they couldn't find something seedy and sordid, so much so, they have to mention the possibility existed in order, I would imagine, to titilate, rather than comisserate with a child who lost her father or family who lost such an important member or even the toll a divorce takes on a man when clearly the american public cannot empathize with. Why look for the slime under the rock over and over again? This rock was a diamond in the rough.

Well what do people expect THESE DRUGS ARE PERFECTLY LEGAL AND ARE GIVEN TO F*CKING CHILDREN because that's the way the Pharm. companies want it. TRY TO TELL ME THAT THE FDA ISN'T FOR SALE!!! THEY APPROVE PILLS THAT CURE YOUR HEADACHE BUT GIVE YOU A HEART ATTACK BUT WILL OPENLY FIGHT AGAINST MARIJUANA BECAUSE ITS NOT MEDICALLY "HELPFUL." IM STARTING TO THINK "HELPFUL" MEANS SIMPLY "PROFITABLE" BY THE DRUG COMPANIES. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF CORPORATE AMERICA WINNING OUT. IM JUST WAITING FOR THE CORONER'S REPORT TO SAY "YEP THERE IT IS!! WE FOUND WEED IN HIS SYSTEM WELL NO WONDER!!!" F*CKING CRIMINALS.

Another family is now living what I pray I will never live ..the burial of my child. May Heath rest in peace and His family find solace in a journey they never asked to travel. For those sitting back in their cruel comments as to what may have happened, let's hope you do'nt have to travel the same path and hear your cruel words of judgement come back as an echo of others judgements on you or perhaps your child....

Heath is like James Dean was. He knew what and how he wanted his life in hollywood to go. He choose movie roles based his idea of what kind of actor he wanted to be. He stayed true to himself and who he was as a person. As a father I'm sure he was the greatest man. Such and untimely death, so unexpected, so sad; no chance to get to say everything you would have said if you had known what the outcome would be. But I'm sure Heath already knew how people felt in his life, deep down. How ironic it is to see where he abided either on Dean street or the corner of Dean street.....

None of us would like our passing splashed all over the media. He has a child for Christ sake, young yes but someday all this will affect her. Whatever happened to respect for the dead and the mourning. My sympathies to the Ledger family and friends, thanks for sharing Heath with us if only for a short time.

If he was Joe Smith would we care?

  • Posted By: bohdansz @ 01/24/2008 2:19:19 PM

My condolences to the family. The fact that this young man took drugs should be investigated. Why he was permitted to use drugs by the family? Why his friends tolerated this? Who sold him the drugs? Was his "fame" dependent on getting high? These are the real questions that we as society should be asking!

    • Posted By: Crone46 @ 01/24/2008 2:35:59 PM

Oh for goodness sake.....he wasn't "taking drugs". He had perscriptions from his doctor for medications for sleep and anxiety. Mr. Ledger was a grown man and his family would have NO say in his medical decsions. You sound like you didn't even read the article......and BTW who the heck are you to make any judgement at all about a person that you don't know? If you can't at least take the time to get the "facts" straight don't bother to comment. No one will ever really know what happened. It's quite easy to overdoese with those medications. Maybe he just forgot that he took the required dose - I keep my meds in a weekly reminder box so I know when I have taken the correct amount and when I have not.. Your comments are way out of line - there's no need to add to the rumors that will be flying.

I remember where I was when I heard the news on the radio. It took my breath away. He was such a fantastic person, father, and actor. We will all miss him. But we have to ask ourselves.. Would he have wanted all of this? I can???t turn a station on TV or the radio or even the internet without hearing something about how he died, what pills he took, how sad his family is, that he had pneumonia... Its already hard enough for his family and friends. People need to just sit back and wait??? and stop assuming the worst.

  • Posted By: ashley86 @ 01/24/2008 2:34:59 PM

It's so obvious that 90% of the people posting comments on here obviously haven't read any of the articles that say he was very sick with pneumonia. All of you want to sit on here and judge him for taking pills, but can you honestly say that last time you had pneumonia you just sat back, ate healty and exercised to get healthy again? That's for you softnsweet...... BS......everyone on here has taking a sleeping pill or two in their life, so befor you jump to accusing him of being a drugie and a user, check you information. Because for you to sit there and judge Heath and call him a drugie for trying to feel better it just shows your true ignorance.

I'm sure he was no pharmacology genius, but Heath Ledger must have been smart enough to know that taking too many of this combination of pills (mostly benzodiazapenes) was downright stupid. I am a board certified ER physician and see overdoses all of sorts. Unless he was found to have some underlying mysterious illness, this has suicide written all over it.
