Comment: Thank you for telling us the truth for a change. Dr's give out too many too often. Just because they are actors doesn't mean they know anything about pharmacology. You can feel sorry for him, and we should, but we can also learn a valuable lesson about taking multiple medications and the problems of it , even if from a physician. This can happen to anyone.

Well... we cant only say that news blogs are picking the worst to blame for his death... after all medication is the only thing found at the scene what else can you conclude!?! However, there may be more to this story but i will never know till the autopsy determines so, but for now i rely and i would also speculate that this had to do with an overdose on depressants. One thing that triggers this speculation was his complaints of his latest character the joker and how he had trouble going to sleep, maybe he decided to take more than prescibed knowingly that the label has warnings about potential overdose... another factor we can look at is his seperation from his long time wife Michelle, its not all that easy breaking off something you truly cared for.

Well as long as it was drugs that are LEGAL and not something horrible like marijuana im totally okay with his death. personally im waiting for the coroner to come out with "yep, found some weed in his system, that has to be the cause." I mean, these "prescription" drugs are on tv every 10 seconds for curing a headache but giving you a heart attack. Why does the FDA allow drugs that haven't been approved to be not just sold but advertised on the super bowl and yet publicly and actively denounce marijuana because it has "no medical value." i guess what "medical value" means is profit. thats it, no more. Heath ledger really NEEDED all those pills? c'mon. society is so far from being normal and healthy that we are just lead like cattle from one prescription to another. a 28 year old dead movie star is a prime example. RIP.

I would also like to extend my condolences to the family and especially to his two year old daughter Matilda. In addition, I would like to extend my state of confusion for I do not know what Bohdansz is talking about. What do you mean "Why was he permitted to use drugs by the family". He was stressed and anxious and couldn't sleep. Although you can abuse prescription drugs, I don't think he was. He was just trying to find some peace of mind, messed up and took too much, and it costed him his life. So stop trying to be all philosophical. What you wrote sounds ridiculous. The family "let" him take the drugs because they didn't know they could be a leathal combination and neither did he.

Heath's tragic death is just another loss in the so-called war against drugs. When is the following issue going to be addressed: There are many people, not just celebrities, who are going to pain management clinics (which are just legal drug-pushing doctors). Since Oxycontin came along, it seems like everyone knows someone who is using it or using the drugs found at Heath's apartment, i.e., anti-anxiety drugs. Let's start blaming the pharamaceutical companies and the doctors who are just in it to make money and don't care at all about people becoming addicted to these medications. This is a national crisis right now!

  • Posted By: ciro545 @ 01/24/2008 2:32:23 PM

Heroin? What are YOU talking about? No one said he was on Heroin, the statement reads that its harder to overdose on the drugs found at his appartment THAN IT IS TO OD ON OTHER CLASSES OF DRUGS LIKE HEROIN. You asked if people READ....are you asking yourself that? You sound like an obsessed fan, we aren't going to see you on some seedy website screaming "just leave Heath alone"...are we? People are just shocked and very freaked out that someone so popular and seemingly "put together" could possibly die of something so easy to NOT do. Tradgedy....yes......did it have to happen?....NO. As an adult, you are totally responsible for the choices you make, and so they better be good ones, or you, me Heath Ledger, we'll all suffer the consequences if they are bad choices.

its tragic when any yong person's life is taken away abruptly like this, and that is exactly my point. It happens every day all over the world, but unless it's a celebrity or someone who's rich enough, it never makes the news, much less creates a media frenzy that will last for months. What about the thousands of faceless youth who's lives were ripped from under them due to complications or affects of thier prescription medications. Until this problem is addressed as a whole, it will just keep happening. The sad thing is you won't hear about it unless the victim is someone fortunate enough to be cared about..............

I was shocked the morning I heard Heath passed away. All of a sudden, all I could think of was the very first film I saw him in. It was "10 Things I Hate About You." It should have been titled "10 Things I Love About You," because I found myself adoring this fresh handsome face in Hollywood. His character was so easy to adore. His charm took me back in time when I was younger and inexperienced with boys. He reminded me sooo much of a young puppy love I once had and all I could think of was, "Why aren't there more young men like him?" So needless to say, I ALWAYS looked forward to his films and watched with such admiration. It's a very sad time for everyone right now.....he may not have been American made, but he was a hell of an Ambassador.....let's hope that Hollywood will at least set a higher standard, as a sign of respect, for such a gifted actor and humanbeing as Heath was. My Prayers are with his family. Heath, you are truly now a bonified Angel. Rest In Peace--All My Love, Cynthia P.S. Attention Bible Thumpers: If you are truely Christians, you will let that poor family morn in peace.....that means you ARE NOT WELCOMED at the funeral....have some respect for Heath's family and friends. STOP MAKING CHRISTIANS LOOK LIKE EXTREMISTS!!!

All he needed was marijuana....marijuana doesn't kill and could have been used for all the axiety that he had and also for his sleeping problem...LEGAL drugs kill...MARIJUANA doesn't. This world needs to speak the truth.

Right on brother. A co-worker and I were discussing that same thing. Alcohol causes death, drugs causes death. The main thing is, drunk driving kills, so why alcohol is legal? They should go back to bootlegging, that was fun!!

What is the issue with all of these actors and actresses overdosing on prescription medications? I always thought that there were strict regulations on prescribing narcotics, but as I am getting older I am starting to notice that a lot of doctors are handing out medication like candy, especially to the famous. I am not one for a lot of rules and regulations, but in this case maybe we need to revise the ones we have already in place. It is getting pretty ridiculous that people are dying before their time because of the wrong mix of medication. Now who is going to be held accountable for the childeren who lost parents, i.e. Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole, and countless others?

to the illeterate ppl who ask the questions- "Why he was permitted to use drugs by the family? Why his friends tolerated this? Who sold him the drugs? Was his "fame" dependent on getting high? - how stupid can duyou be jumping to conclusion swhen your not even aware of the reality of the situation, ps fyi the fact was the poor guy took sleeping pills and perhaps tooka too many or had a reaction to them or the combination of them. show some respect dont tdefame the man who was a teriffic actor and lovedby many bc of any unfortunate event or simplly bc you have nothing else to do and need some excitement in you life. so to you losers show some respect - to heath god bless you l, a terriffic actor and a great human being im sure, may god bless your soul. to his family and friend my condolences and please donot let lifeless-losers who are looking for excitement in their lives upset you anymoe than you already are . may god help you through this rock . candice

I just found out about this. I'm so sad! Heath was one of my favorite actors! My prayers, thoughts and love go to his family friends, his wife/girlfriend and of course above all his mother and his child!! I'm sorry for the loss. I am in no situation to say if it was accidental or not. I do know this (from experience) it IS VERY EASY TO ACCIDENTALY OVERDOSE ON MEDICATIONS!! I've seen it first hand. And myself being on certain pills it is scary and we all need to be careful. I dont care what that doctor above says...it is easy to overdose on accident. I dont know if thats the case in Heaths situation lets hope it was an accident. Prayers to ALL!

I blame the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industriesfor these types of deaths. Even if ultimately the person owning these prescription is usually blamed for the aftermath of mistakes or extra doses, it is the irresponsible individuals making high profit and paying long expensive media advertising that lead the public to lower its guard to the potential lethal effects of these prescription drugs. In a fast-food mentality society is not hard to advertise these pills as innocent candies in the name of profit. I worked in the medical field and know of the illegal incentives given to many medical doctors, psychiatrists in particular to prescribe specific brands of these drugs. For the sake of the many who can fall prey of this fate, I hope something serious is done about it to bring corporate greed to pay for their due debt to society.

    • Posted By: anothercomment @ 01/24/2008 1:57:24 PM

Not illegal incentives - just on the border. Why do we, the public, and the medical profession and the newsmedia allow the advertisingof drugs in all avenues of the media at all. The billions of dollars that is spent shouild be applied to lower costs to medications so we can afford what we really need.

      • Posted By: SK1016 @ 01/24/2008 2:29:17 PM

        AMEN!!! : )

      • Posted By: TruthOverLies @ 01/24/2008 2:15:29 PM

What I called illegal incentives (since I worked close with psychiatrists) are the illegal giveaways such as free vacations and other gifts that medical doctors by law must report and can not accept above a certain amount -such as $50 I believe - for otherwise it would be a conflict of interest. Many doctors in a clinic where I worked in New Jersey where given under the table money and incentives so they could prescribe psychiatrists pills such as celexa and others which at the time were just beginning to take over the market. Despite their expensive advertisement, many companies directly or indirectly are aware of these practices but pretend is individuals that worked with them doing so at their own risk in order to gain commisions they ones that provide these incentives. It does not take a genius to know a salaried pharamaceutical representative is not going to pay a five thousand dollar vacation to a doctor as a gift just so he prescribes more often the drug his company makes when he or she are making a limited amount of dollars per hour and can not afford to give doctors these expensive insentives. That is illegal and if the FBI looked deeper they could take these companies to court and make them pay the billions of dollars they have stolen from the public overselling pills more than a reasonable public demand of these pills require. It is a shame, but a lethal one, not one that ought to be overlooked for the youth of our country, senior citizens and many others end up paying the consequences for corporate greed and irresponsible and illegal marketing.

ok people how does the death of an actor affect the world. he wasnt jesus christ

    • Posted By: D. Marie @ 01/24/2008 2:29:05 PM

Let's put it this way I'd rather hear about Heath than everyone wasting their time with that stupid ass Britney Spears................now there's something that would affect the world. At least Heath does something unlike Spears who gets unnessary attention because she does nothing!!!!! Now there's a waste of our time.

    • Posted By: Donna C. @ 01/24/2008 2:24:17 PM

Bob S. You are not Jesus Christ so who the hell are you to judge or make such a comment. When did you become so important. I think you need to take a long look at yourself and RE-ADJUST your thinking. The death of ANYONE affects the world, except maybe yours. What a jerk!!!!

  • Posted By: lxbrown @ 01/24/2008 1:59:17 PM

The real tragedy here is that HE WAS NOT FOUND DEAD! He was found breathing and the morons who thoght it was more important to clean the apt or chit chat on the phone for an hour (or more) rather than call 911 immediately should be prosecuted for failure to act responsibly in an emergency. If it is not a crime it should be!

    • Posted By: afeaster @ 01/24/2008 2:28:54 PM

He was sleeping in his room - snoring - why would the maid have called 911 then? So lets prosecute her for not waking him up from what she thought was an afternoon nap? wow, I would hate to live in your house - I bet nobody can get any rest around there, what - with you waking everyone up to make sure they arent dead - what kind of thought process is that,?

    • Posted By: D. Marie @ 01/24/2008 2:25:08 PM

I agree with lxbrown. It's a shame that he could possibly be here if someone got to him earlier. I cannot believe they called MaryKate Olsen before 911!!!! What a bunch of morons........they should be charged with some time of negligence.

Amen to monkglen! I tried to get a consultation with a "pain management specialist", but all I could get was an answering machine. I wrote a letter emphasizing that I couldn't stand morphine any longer and wanted information about a nonopiate based protocol, and got a return call and an appointment for a month away. I wrote a letter of confirmation and updated that I had just stopped taking the morphine and antidepressants so I could start with his recommended program ASAP. On the date of the appointment, I was so sick I would have cancelled and remained in bed, but persevered. After filling out all the forms and waiting for an hour, I was called back into what I thought was my appointment. Instead, I was met by a non-medical "office manager" who told me that the good doctor had reviewed my letter, mumbling about the request for information about a non-opiate treatment, and that when he got to a part where I said I would self-pay if my insurance wouldn't because I didn't have a referral, he threw it up in the air and told her to tell me that it didn't appear there was anything he could do for me and that he wouldn't see me. It was like someone knocked all the air out of me and my reaction was rage. "is this how they treat all grandpa types?" I thought to myself, but managed to limit my reaction to an exclamation "do you have any idea how hard it was to get here this morning" and "why didn't someone just call me". As I was directed down the hallway out, I gave a fire extinguisher a pop, and to my surprise it came off in my hand. I was still in a blind rage, but conscious enough to pitch it out the door rather than inside or on the floor so nobody would be hurt. I drove the 30 minutes to my home, and was shortly greeted by a phone call asking my name and then saying "gotcha" and that I had kicked a large hole in the drs office I just left. I do not want to divert further into the totally unprofessional conduct of the cop, other than to tell him I was too sick to drive back over to Sierra Vista, and didn't want to talk to him. At any rate, I now face criminal charges for my misconduct. AMA responded to my complaint of the broken appointment that it was outside the medical practices act and there would be no investigation. This is why people self-medicate and how the medical profession (and the police) are these days. The prosecuting attorney's position is that while he was in private practice and someone came in for an appointment and he didn't like their looks, he would have done likewise. I guess I do look a bit wild and wooly because of all the drugs they keep me on and because I can't afford to repair my front dentures, but it wasn't that long ago that I was a public defender type lawyer. About all I do these days is work with people on a voluntary basis who have substance abuse problems. I hope someone out there can respond to this.

A loss of life is always a tragedy, but is always so much so in someone who was so young. His parents are now living what I ask God to never let me experience...The loss of a child..May Heath rest in peace and may His parents , child and all who loved Him find solace in this journey no one expected to travel...

Hello, the truth is as a young adult in the media or not in the media we still face our own issues and day to day problems. Were human we all make mistakes being 28yrs old myself with a 3 year old daughter. No matter what demons or hardships we face the love we have for our children is undeniable. My heart goes out to not only him and all the amazing things he will miss out on, but to his family and daughter whose daddy is no longer here to share in those times when she will need him. Im am deeply and truly sorry for your loss.

Bob S. Neither are you Jesus Christ. Who are you to make such a statement. Everyones death has an affect on the world, except maybe yours. You need to take a look in the mirror and decide when you became so important. Take inventory of your own life before you judge others!!!!!! Your comment really sucked.
