    RE: sk1016 COMMENT
Patients have a responsibility to inform their physician of what meds the are taking. Physicians cannot be held responsible for pts who seek drugs from multiple practioners. How is one to know if meds werer RX'd in another country or city for that matter. No provider would knowing Rx multiple drugs of the same class for the same pt - that's ridiculous. All meds come w/ inserts explaing the benefits, interactions and adverse reactions that can occur from taking it. There are even commercials on Tv daily explaining these thing. Pt's need to take responsibility for what they choos to take. Would you take a drug, if you didn't have all the information about it? If, so, you put too much faith in your practioner..

I agree. Right away everyone wants to jump to the wrong conclusion. It seems like the media won't be happy unless it is drugs!!! The media needs to back off and show some respect, let his family and friends grieve. I think it is a terrible loss and is a wake up call for everyone to cross check their medication. With Web MD this is a simple step to take. I seriously do not think he did it on purpose.....the poor man was exhausted. I pray the angels in heaven give him the solace he deserves. God Bless you Heath!!

Heath was one of my favorite actors and I'm very sad by his passing. My condolinces to his family and friends.

How so unfortunate that this has happened..I'm sure Heath didnt intend to take his own life..His career was just taking off, and he had so many more opportunities. There are so many questions concerning his sudden death..

It is so important to keep in mind that it's itmperative to let your docotor know what med's you are on, if you have more than one, like me, who have different medical conditions to prevent such as this. I feel like it was accidental, when you have med's precribed in Europe and your back in the States he might not have mentioned to his doctors here what had happen there. We don't know and should not judge anyone. But it should be an alarm to people who do go to different doc's just to get perscriptions the dangers involved. Accidental deaths like this is so tragic but can be avoidable with honesty. We do not know his state of mind so who are we to judge and the church should be the first ones to console and pray for the family at this time. It is true they will have to stand in front of God and take account for their life too. Do not judge, lest ye be judged, that came from Jesus. I really enjoyed him as an actor and I feel like he was a good person. My prayers are with his family and daughter. See you under the tree of life one day, Heath.

I also have a rack hanging on the inside of my closet door from top of the door to the bottom. Filled with all kinds of medication, for all kinds of reasons. Some sit there for 10 years plus. I loved this actor, and I don't think it was the drugs. I think something else happened. I am so sad that they look at the worst thing possible instead of waiting for the real truth.

why does every one automatically jump to the conclusion that he was abusing thesedrugs. i don't think in any way or form that heath ledger intentionallly killed himself why don't you all just wait for the autopsy to come out

    • Posted By: nursechick @ 01/24/2008 2:16:19 PM

I agree. He had a slight case of pnuemonia, which doesnt help your breathing. He may not have taken a large amount of these pills. Maybe just took a valium then decided he wanted some sleep ...popped an ambien 20 mins later....and the xanax was still in his system from taking it earlier in the day. Maybe had a small drink of alcohol to take the edge off. It happens to people everyday. I guess we'll fnd out when the tox screen comes back.

In reference to my previous comment. What I called illegal incentives (since I worked close with psychiatrists) are the illegal giveaways such as free vacations and other gifts that medical doctors by law must report and can not accept above a certain amount -such as $50 I believe - for otherwise it would be a conflict of interest. Many doctors in a clinic where I worked in New Jersey where given under the table money and incentives so they could prescribe psychiatrists pills such as celexa and others which at the time were just beginning to take over the market. Despite their expensive advertisement, many companies directly or indirectly are aware of these practices but pretend is individuals that worked with them doing so at their own risk in order to gain commisions they ones that provide these incentives. It does not take a genius to know a salaried pharamaceutical representative is not going to pay a five thousand dollar vacation to a doctor as a gift just so he prescribes more often the drug his company makes when he or she are making a limited amount of dollars per hour and can not afford to give doctors these expensive insentives. That is illegal and if the FBI looked deeper they could take these companies to court and make them pay the billions of dollars they have stolen from the public overselling pills more than a reasonable public demand of these pills require. It is a shame, but a lethal one, not one that ought to be overlooked for the youth of our country, senior citizens and many others end up paying the consequences for corporate greed and irresponsible and illegal marketing

THERE SHOULD BE A SPECIAL COMMITEE WITHIN THE ACTORS GUILD THAT EVALUATES UP AND COMING ACTORS WHO SUDDENLY BECOME FAMOUS AND HAVE A HARD TIME DEALING WITH IT.
THE STUDIOS SHOULD ALSO INTERVENE BY HAVING A NO TOLLERANCE POLICY FOR DRUG USERS.

I agree to these commonly used drugs can have a very bad affect n the central nervous system. It depresses the respiratory system. I had a situation where I was given a psychiatric drug to sleep. I had no idea it was a psychiatric drug I was very unhappy to find this out 4 months later. Anyway sleeping takes relaxing and BREATHING, you must breathe. But because these drugs affect the respiartory system (eg depresses) it does not help to take too many. Thus other ways of falling asleep should be looked into. Drugs also like Xanax have a down fall ( anxiety pills) because when once coming off ot it the anxiety is so greatit is almost unbearable , therfore there is an addictive cycle of ."god I need to sleep but I cant , I need thse drugs" If you want to look into anti anxiety drugs their toxic affect on the mind please look into the book TOXIC PSYCHIATRY. There are also medical documents reveald not hidden on WHAT THEY DONT WANT YOU TO KNOW. its a ll a very vicious cyle. Thank you for this oppurtunity to comment.

My sister has suffered for 20 years from depression. Some many drugs have been pumped into her and no one in my family can get any answers from her already crazy husband who treats her poorly and raises 5 kids in the worst ways. Its almost an ordeal with no real answers at times.

Dealing with insomnia and anxiety are difficult and can become frustrating.
I have been dealing with both for a few years now and am on the same medications as the above.
It gets to a point in your head where you feel that if you increase the prescribed dosage of medications that they will work quicker and everything will get better. Sometimes it turns into a tragedy.

    irregardless is NOT a word

    • Posted By: TessaTee @ 01/24/2008 1:59:53 PM

It is an acceptable "non -standard" word. Stick to the topic at hand, not my grammar.

ir??re??gard??less /????r????g??rdl??s/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ir-i-gahrd-lis] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
      ???adverb Nonstandard.
      regardless.
[Origin: 1910???15; ir-2 (prob. after irrespective) + regardless]

???Usage note Irregardless is considered nonstandard because of the two negative elements ir- and -less. It was probably formed on the analogy of such words as irrespective, irrelevant, and irreparable. Those who use it, including on occasion educated speakers, may do so from a desire to add emphasis.

      • Posted By: lbriley527 @ 01/24/2008 2:14:42 PM

It is a grammatical error, regardless of what you quote. Visit an "English" speaking country and see what they have to say.

...and so the nightmare continues...Yet another Hollywood star who thinks he is indestructable. (Heath Ledger) I live in a small town where 7 young high school boys from the same basketball team were killed in one van last week. This one act alone make us realize how precious life really is. God have mercy on him...June Schiavoni, Bathurst, NB, Canada

Irregardless, we all agree that you are a horse's ass.

    • Posted By: lbriley527 @ 01/24/2008 2:09:46 PM

There is no such word as irregardless- that is a double negative.

      • Posted By: SK1016 @ 01/24/2008 2:14:10 PM

I think that was supposed to be a joke...

What alot of people forget is that whether you are famous, rich, poor, whatever..we are all HUMAN. He may of had some serious issues that noone knew about. Famous people that die, people think that they are invinsible . Everyone has secrets and problemsBlame is not the issue. I don't think that any of us will EVER really know exactly what happened. Accident or not , it was a very sad ordeal and this will just go down in history as another life that was taken to soon.
