I feel terrible about what happened to him, I was a huge fan. I wonder if they checked the rolled up $20 bill for pill substances not just cocaine. If you inhale the types of medications he was prescribed that could've killed him also. After what happened to Anna Nicole and her son, why are these doctors continuing to prescribe the harsh, addictive pills to celebrities and others? When I think they should try therapy over addictive drugs that have been linked to so many tragic and unpredictable deaths.

I have chronic pain and live in MO. I've yet to find a DR who's not afraid of the DEA. Therefore, I'm prescribed the off the wall generic meds that don't work. So, it's very easy to take a pill, then another, and another for relief. Then, you have a celebrity who accidently overdoses. Thus bringing attention to prescription drugs and making it even harder to get the proper care. I've found that DR's are afraid enough as it is. It's not Dr's writing prescriptions. It's Dr's afraid of writing "effective ones" that cause this. Mr Ledger didn't have the proper meds. That's why he had 6 prescriptions when all he needed was 2. 1 for anxiety and 1 for sleep- that WORKED!!

AS MUCH TECHNOLOGY AS WE HAVE TODAY i DON NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS NOT A UNIFORM DRUG SYSTEM TO TRACK WHAT A PERSON IS PERSCRIBED TO #1 TRACK WHAT A PERSON GETS, #2 IN CASE A PERSON HAS MULTIPLE PHYSICIANS . THIS WOULD HELP PREVENT ACCIDENTS LIKE THIS. I KNOW WITH KAISER IF ANOTHER DOCTOR ORDERS A MEDICATION AUTOMATICALLY IT IS FLAGGED IF IT DOES NOT COMBINE WITH A MED ANOTHER PHYSICIAN ORDERED. AS I STATED IF THERE WAS A UNIFORM TECHNOLIGY THIS WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Exactly. I mean we are not the ones with the medical degrees. doctors should at least ask what drugs we are taking and tell us how they react with other drugs. its their job. and it we find out that only one doctor prescribed those meds to him then Heath's family should sue for malpractice/and or he should be charged with manslaughter!

It's amazing how quick the church is to condemn someone for doing there job as an actor playing a role as a gay man, and even quicker to pays off family's to cover what goes on within there own ranks. I'm beginning to feel sorry for the church come judgement day.

Perhaps this will raise awareness about prescription drugs and how dangerous they can be.

    • Posted By: wentsgirl @ 01/24/2008 1:43:26 PM

Prescription drugs are only dangerous if you make them. You have to control them, don't let them control you. My heart goes out to his family. But some of us really do need our medication, I suffer from chronic pain and I hope this does not make it more difficult for me.

Heath Ledger was not a known for using illegal drugs, so why the question in the article about cocaine? I fairly heady assumption on the writers part to even ask the question as it is leading. Heath himself admitted he was having trouble sleeping. The effects of lack of sleep are a decrease in mental capacity. This is a known fact. Due to his lack of sleep and high stress levels, he may not have been aware of how much he had taken, hence, an accidental combination or overdose. Let this be until the autopsy and simply let his family, friends, and fans mourn.

Actually, Heath was in treatment for Heroin addiction some years back. And the 2 kind of go hand in hand.

i also take sleeping pills i am also only 28. i was very scared one morning because i woke up not remembering the night before. i took 2 zopiclone with alcohol (small amount) because after the first one i did not have any effect. I also took 1 diazapam this was after the death of my father. i soon realised how dangerous these drugs were so stopped after having a scare what could have easily have been worse. Heath Ledger was a great actor and i am sure a family man too. my thoughts and prayers with his family.

well first of all despite what the country believes addiction is not a disease and it is not hereditary. It is a choice there are people who quit drinking smoking and doing drugs all by themselves cold turkey!! they have to come to that decision all by themselves for their own reasons. u cant force them. saying its a disease is just another way of copping out and blaming your problems on someone else!! Heath had his own issues and as far as that goes its his own business what caused his death and his family's business. the tabloids need to stop exploiting peoples deaths its wrong!! just like society needs to stop making excuses for everyones problems, wake up people and take responsibility for your OWN actions.

Isn't it amazing that the comments seem to have the same resonating theme. That the media has once again been caught stretching the truth airing dirty laundry without knowing the truth. When is america going to realize that the media prints only whay "THEY" want us to beleive and pu-pu the things that go against what they want us to think, or act upon. The media now is concentrated on the elections, and they love the Clintons. Think about it. To the Leger family, my prayers are with you. For what it matters I enjoyed your sons talents on the screen. May god grant you peace in this great time of loss.

AS STATED , IF YOUR BODY DOES NOT RE-ACT TO ANY DRUG LET SAY IN 5-6 MIN. YOU FEEL THAT MAYBE THEY ARE NOT WORKING AS WELL AS BEFORE. RIGHT?? WE STAR THINKING THAT MAYBE
WE MIGHT NEED SOMETHING A LITTLE STRONGER. SO UNTIL YOU SEE YOUR DOCTOR AGAIN YOU
THINK WELL MAYBE IF I TAKE ANOTHER IT WILL HELP, IT DOES NOT. YOU DON'T GET WHAT PEOPLE
WANT TO CALL "HIGH" ON SLEEPING MED'S BUT YOU DO, IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPWE OF "HIGH"
YOUR TALKING ABOUT. IN SHORT TERMS TO GET A "LA-LA" HIGH FROM SUCH MED'S. LET ME PUT IT
IN BETTER TERMS, YOU DON'T GET "STONED" OFF OF THEM, BUT YOU DO GO INTO A STATE OF MIND
THAT LEAVES YOUR MIND CLOUDED OF JUDGEMENT. THAT'S WHAT I THINK HAPPENED HERE. NO
ONE IS AT FAULT. IT WAS CLOUDED JUDGEMENT THAT WENT WRONG. I ONLY KNOW OF HEATH LEDGER FROM THE TABLOIDS, I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY OF HIS MOVIES. BUT, LET 'S JUST CHALK IT
UP TO A "BAD CALL". SO LET US TAKE THIS TIME, TO STOP AND THINK ABOUT THE NEXT TIME WE
NEED OR THINK WE NEED EXTRA SLEEPING AIDS TO ALTER OUR BODIES, THERE HAS GOT TO BE
ANOTHER WAY. THERE JUST HAS TO BE SO LET'S TRY AND FIND IT BRFORE THIS HAPPENS AGAIN.

    BEST REGARDS,
    KATHLEEN ORRANTIA
    (A CONCERN HUMAN BEING )

Going to different Doctors, especially if they happen to be in other countries, can be tricky when it comes to prescribing pills that don't interact well together. I recent;ly switched primary care physicians, and they didn't ask about the current medications I take. I went in with a pinched nerve in my back, and they instantly wrote me prescriptions for muscle relaxants, vicodin, and an anti-inflammatory. I don't know if they would have done that had they asked about my current medications, which include lorazepam (anti-anxiety) antidepressants, and mood stabilizers.

When I took the new pills, they made me go into this daze where I just had to lie down totally still and sleep it off, but then I'd wake up and throw up. I stopped taking the pills.

Medical professionals don't always take the precautions they should, and some pharmacies will warn you that your medications clash if you got them at the same place, and sometimes won't even give them to you. But if you happen to go to a different pharmacy, they don't have your other records on files.

when I first heard about this on the news, there was mention of the lady that found him calling Mary Kate Olson, and THEN 911. The massage therapist was a friend of the Olson twins, but I haven't heard any more on this issue. Did anyone else hear the same thing about the sequence of calls, and if so, what's the significance?

How many young men, fathers, husbands, brothers have died in Iraq already? To say nothing of people we have killed there. This is a much greater tradgedy, by sheer porportion. I hope that Bush will be remembered at one of the greater war criminals of history, a war without any excuse. Americans should also reflect on their own culpability in electing such a poor excuse for a world leader.

I only hope that one day we well be able to find a means to solve this on going problem of Doctor's prescribing medications for patients who are currently taken medications prescribed by another doctor. This is a sad situation that so many families fall victim to. The world has lost a wonderful human being. I can not express my sympathy to Heath's family enough. I can only hope that his daughter will grow up to know how much he loved her and how marvelous of a man he was. I wish the media would respect Heath and his family during this difficult time. God bless Heath's soul and the family he left behind.
