While studying overseas, one day while traveling from one city to the next via bus, I decided to take my back pain medication because sitting for so long started to really bother me--I had prescribed Tylenol with Codeine for lower back pains from my GP. However, I had forgotten that earlier in the day I had taken my daily allergy medication prescribed by my allergist. It became such a habit to take. It was like eating breakfast. So there I had two medications that later I found out could be lethal if taken together. Several hours later at a rest stop, I mistakenly agreed to have a beer with one of the passengers. Since drinking beer in European countries is like drinking water, I didn't think about it until after I already drank half a glass of beer. I stopped as soon as I remembered I had taken my meds. But by the time I reached my destination, I began having a difficult time breathing. In addition to the medication mix, the bus had actually caught fire at some point and we had to evacutate the bus. It was a nightmare excursion. At some point, I just assumed that my breathing difficulties were from the bus smoke, but in fact, it wasn't. There really hadn't been that much smoke exposure, and well, I felt woosy and lightheaded. When I reached my apartment, I had all to do to force myself to breathe. At one point, I thought this was the end for me. I had to actually make myself force the air in my lungs by making my abdomen move. Instead of calling an ambulance, I just sat there in my bedroom with my mind in a bubble. I was unable to actually make the call. I thought to do it, but I couldn't make myself do it. I felt somewhat paralyzed. I was afraid to try anything different. Hours passed by and eventually I felt in control. I eventually fell asleep. The thing is, what if I had fallen asleep much earlier? I may never have awakened. All I had was 1 allergy pill, 1 tylenol w/codeine, and a half glass of beer within a 15 hr time frame. Now I say, do not mix meds without thinking clearly. All medications have different affect from one individual to the next, the range of dosages, consumption of different food/beverage, the state in which the individual's body is --all these things should be taken into account on how a drug/medication can affect someone. Most people don't realize how potentially dangerous prescribed meds can be.
As for Heath Ledger, I'm saddened that what happened to him was most likely preventable. As I've heard, he was a honest, decent, and goodhearted person, which is sometimes hard to find these days, especially with movie star celebrities. It's a shame that this unfortunate event ended up taking his life. It's awful and heartbreaking. It's disturbing that others out there can guzzle down toxic levels of illegal drugs and alcohol and somehow survive barely unscathed. Somewhat unfair, I'd say.
Well said. I totally agree. How ironic that Heath died because of something like this and meanwhile Britney is still hanging on...such a shame.
Celebrities should not be mixing all kinds of prescription drugs. Doctors too readily prescribe too many for them without knowing others they are taking. people die for lack of knowledge. doctors needc to educate their patients regarding drugs. Not to, is a form of negligence and malpractice. Look at the example for instance of Elvis Presley. We are losing talented people because of ignorance. all very needless!
Working in the healthcare field, I can say that some people will not tell medical professionals what drugs they have already been prescribed (in other facilities). It really is the responsibility of the consumer to inform the medical professionals about what drugs they have been using.
True, but..the computer is used for so many different things and has so much information - wouldn't it be wise to use it for professional medical personnel, to put in a person's name and see everything he/she may be on now, or in the past? Medical professionals do need to take some responsibility, whether there are warnings on bottles, or not. We all know that some medications cause memory loss, confusion, dimentia, etc., but if you are taking one of these medications and have memory loss, or confusion, how are you suppose to know, be responsible for, or be smart about your actions? You cannot act responsibly when your judgement is distorted.
This is truly a tradegy and more people need to take heed in how dangerous prescription drugs are.
I use to eat doritos and take ambien at night, until I realized that the two were a lethal combination. It's frustrating and dissapointing that doritos can do that. I have not tried it with ranch doritos yet, but I would bet that it would ending being the same deadly cocktail.
if he hadn;t tken the anti-histamine, there's a good chance he'd still be here. If he did have pneumonia, an antihistamine would be the worst thing to take: it shuts all your histmines down, and could affect respiratory problems. Plus, they make you sleepy as hell. Put all that together, and there's no wonder he went to sleep and stopped breathing..JOK
Heath Ledger was a great actor. He will truly be missed. My love and prayers goes out to his family and friends. As an actor he touched so many lives, and I was truly devastated by the news. Heath was a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. He was warm, and charming and honest. But most of all he was a good person. We need more of people like him. May God rest his soul.
Heath was obviously in a great deal of pain. You don't do heroin because you are insanely happy! And FYI -loving someone or having someone who loves you (no matter how much) does not make that pain any less. That doesn't make him stupid or weak-he was a sick man and who can blame him for that? Would you blame some one for dying of cancer? Addiction is a disease and it kills people everyday! Whether it be an instant or over time is it any less tragic?
Everyone might like to WAIT TILL THE REPORTS COME IN BEFORE MAKING ACCUSATIONS and ASSUMPTIONS ...THIS MAN HAD A FAMILY ...He has Parents, siblings and a child...and no matter the cause no one is glorifying His death...my sympathies to the Family and Friends that truly loved and cared about Him...to the rest of you ...look in your own backyard before condemning someone without the facts before He is even cold...vultures !!!!!!!
This is so true.
It really doesnt matter what prescriptions he took, who called who, or what the reoccurring speculations are when something like this happens (everyone knows how that one goes)... what DOES matter is a wonderful Man who was kind, considerate and an all out great guy lost his life. What DOES matter is a 2 year old little girl has lost her father...she will no longer get to play in the park with him, get ice cream with him, feel his arms around her when shes overtired an just needs a cuddle...what DOES matter is that her mother Michelle Williams is now left to raise their daughter alone...what DOES matter is that his family lost their son, their brother, a intricate part to their family, no parent should ever have to bury their child. And the rest of us, well, we lost a fellow member of our society. As far as I can see, all the what ifs become less important when you realize the world just lost a really great guy!! Rest in Peace Heath, may the angels carry you home.
Hopefully this will be a wakeup call for people, physcians and FDA.
there are other ways to combat health problems besides RX..
what happened to exercise, nutrition, etc.
People , take responsibility for yourself and have your physcian give you the names for good nutritionist and health spas instead of writing out a script for everything.
Stop the flow of RX ...It is out of hand...
I wish someone would have called 911 right way rather than going through his cellphone.
stuipd people do stupid things this is one of those things...
didnt realize you knew him personally......you just proved your own point. stupid people also SAY stupid things.
There was a woman in my area that was taking these sleeping pills that would wake up in the middle of the night and sleepwalk. she actually drove to the store, purchased candy and drove back home. and i think that she wasnt the only one that this happened to. Maybe they should investigate this in Heath's case. And also i think that the FDA should ban these damn sleeping pills instead of shoving them on the unsuspecting public. there have been too many cases of death. suicide, and sleepwalking to count. may Heath rest in peace, andmuch love to his beautiful daughter and family.
Speculation as to how Mr. Ledger died is just that...speculation. With an inconclusive autopsy and toxicology reports not yet completed it is unfair to jump to conclusions as to how this tragic death occured. We should all be celebrating the life of this extremely talented actor instead of playing a guessing game. At twenty-eight years old it is understandable that people want to know why and how such a tradgedy could occur, but until the facts surrounding his death are known everyone should not be so quick to presume. Our consititurion is built on a systym of inocent until proven guilty, but apparently in the media's eye's its innocent until found dead. Have respect for Heath Ledger by celebrating his life, respecting the privacy of his family so they can mourne in peace, and refrain from specultating on cause of death until all facts are known. I would like to offer my sincere condolenscences to all of his family, especially the little girl who will never get to know him the way that she should.
My condolences go out to the family and his daughter and,yes it is sad but at least we can say thar he had shared something with all of us and that was his talent, his acting! He was Great! So let us not say negative things but only good things so his little girl will always remember her daddy as being a great person!!!!
My condolences go out to the family and remeber that only the guy upstairs knows the real truth and we have no wright making speculations or insinuations or judging what happened. His parents do not need to listen to the garbage we all loved him and will be very much missed!!!!! REST IN PEACE HEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't lay too much blame at the doorsteps of the docs or the pharmacists. Info is always on the material sent with the filled scripts, the pharmacists often ask if there are any questions when a script(s0 is filled and picked up. People need to be responsible for their actions - the use of drugs of any kind can go bad if you are not taking the correct dosages and/or are mixing with other drugs. Ledger was a 28 yr old smart person who should know that. I say he is responsible for his own death - you can call it suicide or not but he caused his own death by being stupid and selfish.
............didnt realize you knew him personally...........stupid and selfish huh?..........maybe thats your experience with certain people in your life..........but its obvious you never met him. Think before you speak moron.
It is a total shame this occured. Alot of people have trouple sleeping and anxiety problems. Personally I amtaking 3 of those medications listed as well as an antihistamine. But I do not take more than the prescribed dosage. I have had no problem and have been on those 3 medications for several years.
yes but if one med is not working a doctor could prescribe a different one. If he did not throw away the first (or second...) he could potentially have several different types in his home at one time. How many of us get prescriptions, don't use them all, and then keep them for later needs? I have several types of prescriptions in my medicine cabinet currently, all were legally prescribed and none are current prescriptions!
Yes, but combined are they lethal????
