When did Newsweek become just another gossip rag? The autopsy results are not even finished. Very sad.

Are you guys commenting doctors or experts? You know everybodys body reacts differently to certain drugs and drug combinations, right. I have a 28 year old son who now suffers from memory loss because the painkillers they gave him along with medications for anxiety bipolar disorder depression and diabetes did not act together well in his body and oh by the way I was told that there was no way he could overdose on these drugs. My son will now spend the rest of his life on disability. He doesnt remember what day it is what month what year has no concept of time and does not know that he just asked the same question for the 40th time even though he has gotten an answer every time. He doesnt know what he ate today only that he must have because he does not feel hungry. Get off your high horses , if someone is overly tired and anxious and has a big headache and alot of stress all at the same time, I hate to burst your bubble but unintentional overdose is very easy to have happen. Nobody but Heath knows what happened in this instance and I'm sorry but he is no longer here to let us in on the details. Give his family a little bit of peace would you stop being so negative every movie star does not od intentionally. God Bless

Its unfortunately true that people in society thrive off of other people??s tragedy. However, this isnt Britney Spears that were talking about. This was a man of great talent who did??nt want his private life to be displayed all over magazine covers and the internet. I think its about time that reporters realize that fans of Heath Ledger do not care about how he died so much, rather were all just saddened simply by the fact that he is no longer with us. He was such a talented young actor that passed way too soon. My hear goes out to his friends and family at this time. Especially since they are having to deal with keeping his reputation clean and denying what people are saying about an apparent drug addiction. They havent even had the change to grieve.

Finally, someone fixed the spelling of Heath Ledger's name. The editor should also put an "editor's note" alongside the article to indicate that there was a correction made after it was published. Just because it's the Internet doesn't mean you shouldn't care about proper journalistic protocol.

I think that it is the fault of the prescriber not explaining the effects of taking too many or what the wrong combination of the pills could cause. It is a real shame.

I don't care what ANYONE says, losing Heath is horrible; any way you look at it. Whatever the circumstances, it is still a wasted life.
DEPRESSION KILLS!!!! Remember Anna, Marilyn, Janice, Kurt, River???????????????
You will forever be missed, Heath. We love and miss you -

It is extremely easy to overdose on prescribed medication. Maybe physicians should check a little closer and not be to ready to prescribe meds at the drop of a pin.

When I first heard Congressman Kennedy's excuse for his DUI I laughed, however I know know its very possible he was telling the truth based upon an experience I had with Ambien last month. The same thing could have happened to Heath. I took the ambien at 1030 like I normally do, then about an hour and a half later I woke up and asked my wife where my nighttime medicine was. She told me I had already taken it and I disagreed with her and went for a walk around the block in my slippers and nightcoat (Im in the midwest, it was cold). I came home and laid back down. About 30/40 minutes later I woke up again thought i had not taken my evening dose and wanted it. According to my wife this occured 4 or 5 times. I dont remember any of it. With that I have cut way down on the amount of Ambien I take and hope to be off it soon. I'm sorry for Heath, his family and friends and fans. It's too bad that the drug companies do care more about their obligation to shareholders than to patients/

Suicide is not the issue here. He did not commit suicide. People who take 1 more Advil than recommended on the bottle are not committing suicide. Not to mention suicide is an intentional act, there is no such thing as "unintentional" suicide. Careless behavior, maybe. But no suicide here. Choose your words carefully, especially when speaking of someone's death.

i used to take Ambien because i would wake up worrying about my job. I had to be in bed 20 minutes after I took it. A few times my wife found me slumped over the computer table and helped me to bed. once she heard a thud and ran upstairs and found me lying down face first. blood was pouring out of my nose. She helped me to bed. I didn't wake up till 5 AM. I woke up with dried blood in my nose and a broken tooth. The was t time I took Ambien. its serious stuff. Go Tom Brady. Go New england Patriots. Run the score up. I haven't forgotten the years of NO RESPECT. Rot in Hell Howard Cosell

If he were taking cocain along with the depressents the cocain would kind of couteract the depressents. Yes it is sad when someone dies. I do not believe he was a dumb person, he should have known better. Doctors put warnings on prescription bottles for a reason.

It is a tragedy that this type of thing happens but, maybe we should think about the whole concept of taking anti-depresents and anti-anxiety medications. We need anxiety, fear and pain to let us know how we are doing, it is part of life. Covering up our emotions does not fix why these emotions are there. Lets look at other people taking similar aproachs at dealing with their problems such as Anna Nicole and Kurt Cobain

First you dont know if it was a suicide, your just going on what you think, they have not come out and said it was a suicide, secind are you a doctor that you know so much about these different types of drugs? my research and talking with others confirmed that taking these together could kill you, or put you in a coma. no body knows anything just yet.

it is a very sad state of our society when one depends on any kind of drugs to cope with life.
drugs taken on a temporary basis for anxiety or insomnia is one thing, but all of these drugs? similiar thing happened to Elvis

    • Posted By: JD2826 @ 01/24/2008 12:49:10 PM

No, Elvis died from taking a different class of drugs. One that is no longer available for use in this country. Heath's drugs are actually not lethal alone. They are not the same.

Food for thought. This issue of the rolled up bill which is characteristic to someone using it to snort cocaine or heroine, even meth, well folks, addicts also use this method to snort other drugs and possibly it could have been one of the pills in the bottles on his table crushed in order to get perhaps quicker relief from anxiety. I wonder if they tested it for all drugs, not just the obvious opiates.

It's scary that.. I just finished watching one of his movie just the night before the news posted.
Well, look at the bright side... he died during in deep sleep, which means..it was better without pain.
    May God bless his family!!

Would the person feel anything...like the suffer?

    • Posted By: Southbeachsun @ 01/24/2008 12:47:45 PM

From what I understand - no. The respiratory system slows and then stops. The person just stops breathing and passes away. They don't feel anything.

  • Posted By: quban00 @ 01/24/2008 12:47:32 PM

this is not a suicide...they all say he had trouble sleeping almost innsomina...for someone like that to go months wihout sleep...i would say he need sleep bad and just took too many at once or a combo of some..that guy loved his little girl..so i couldnt imagine him ever leaveing her like that

This is one of the first articles about Ledger's death that I find credible. I find the term"Accidental Overdose" a poor excuse for the term "playing with fire" or "Russian Roulette" with a semi-loaded revolver. Heath Ledger was plain and simple very stupid to be possibly taken some or all of these drugs at the same time. I look forward to more info from the MD Examiner's report. Until then, I am going to assume that Ledger cared more about getting "high" while searching for some sleep than he cared about his family. Selfish, stupid and inexcuseable for someone who could afford to lead a wonderful life and be a great example for his young daughter. I'm sorry he's dead - I hope this example turns some other brains around when they contemplate mixing medications in high dosages.
