I am so sorry to hear about the death of Heath Ledger. He is a young vibrant guy who career is now unfolding. I do hope that his sole rest in peace and the truth about his death will soon be told. We need to pray for our young people. Today, life is very stressful and a number of young people are seeking coping strategies which are impacting their health.

His daughter, Matilda, is 2 years old.

I retired last just after a life time of teaching in inner city schools. Although my job involved an amout of stress and anxiety that is impossible for outsiders to udnerstand - I never used one prescription drug to cope with these problems. That's the question that needs to be raised. Why did this young man, whose not even half my age, need so many prescriptions? Couldn't his doctors have "Just said NO."? This tragic death demonstrates the codependent relationship of the the medical profession and the pharmaceutical industry as well as our collective co-dependent belief that we can solve our problems merely by popping a couple of pills.

Your stress and apin is not the same as others stress and pain. I have fibromialgia, but look healthy. Sometime (the times when no one sees me I am curled up on the couch, rocking in pain. Dealing with some doctors and pharmacists has been difficult. I finally have a prescription for opiods that has enabled me to go back to work as a teacher. But the stigma created by people like you has been appalling. Everyone assumes an opiod user is an unscrupulous addict. The few doctors who are understanding are afraid to prescribe strong meds because of those people who blame the doctors. Therefore, many people live needlessly in pain. This include other illnesses/meds like insomnia and anxiety.

Heath, you will be remembered for you work as an actor. If this discussion must continue, let's hope it increases compassion and understanding for people with anxiety and insmnio.

I love the fact that yesterday's big news was the rolled up $20 bill. Now they've tested it and found no trace of cocaine. Obviously the press hoped to report that he was a drug addict, but now it's not so clear-cut, is it? I know people who suffer from insomnia and anxiety, and I am sorry Heath Ledger appears to have suffered from it as well. My sympathy to his family and friends. Especially for the media circus.

With multiple prescriptions present for the same or similar drugs only one conclusion can be drawn. Chemical Dependency is a life threatening disease that often ends in death. Here is another example.

          • Posted By: jill2008 @ 01/24/2008 1:00:44 PM

Every time a celebrity dies, something to do with drugs is always suspected. That is why they even took the time to announce that the $20 bill had no drug residue on it. I think Heath would be mad if he knew how many people suspected him of drug abuse right away.

Drugs are drugs perscribed or otherwise. Do I think the overdose was accidentally, absolutely, do I blame an obvioulsy exhausted and streesed actor for his own premature death, not really, I want to know what the hell is wrong with the housekeeper and or masseus, call 9-1-1 !! that is what it comes down to, the last few critical minutes and the only two people there had a serious lapse in judgement .. God Bless ..

Its really sad that this one doctor prescribed all these drugs to him. He is totally responsible for this man's death. He should be banned from being a doctor.
He was one of the best actors, and I really enjoyed watching him on tv.
And I am so upset that the church is going to be protesting at the funeral because he played a gay actor. There is nothing wrong with being gay even in God's eyes. God is accepting of everyone, gays included. Shame on them for being so damn closed minded. I am totally open minded to everyone's sexual orientation, its their lives let them live like everyone else. If God hates gays he may as well hate me for liking them. I have a best friend who is bi-sexual and he is the best friend that I could ever have.

              To Heath's Family:
I am sure you are probably busy mourning than reading messages from fans or non-fans. I hope this comment reaches you. In my opinion, your son was a great actor. Acting is a job and he did his job well. No one really knows him the way you do, so don't let the negative comments bother you. My aunt's husband killed my aunt 36, my cousin 13, and their 4 week old baby. The local media was involved which isnt near as bad as the whole world. Just Google the name Tony Pope if you want to read on. Time will not heal your pain. It will ease the pain to talk amongst your family and friends of all the good memories
you have with each other. My heart dropped when I heard the news. He is a very handsome and successful man which you are proud I'm sure. May God be with him and your family. Keep praying and discussing the wonderful memories.

Dear Mwalimu: You sound like a very sanctimonious person. I'm very glad you never had to resort to drugs of any kind. However, sleep deprivation is a very serious condition and can make even a healthy person physically ill. Lack of sleep is a condition that needs to be addressed. There should be no stigma attached to taking a medication for this. Maybe your copings skills were better, but maybe not. You cannot speak for everyone else and what they experience. It doesn't matter that he was so much younger than you. Suffering does not have an age requirement. I agree with the person with fibromyalgia whose comment appears below yours. There is so much judging and looking down on people who need medications like sleeping pills or pain pills. Yes, there are some people/doctors who abuse these medications, but that should not stop people who really need them from having them. Chronic pain and/or sleeplessness is a horrible thing to live with. If you have not endured it, keep your trap shut. You have no right to judge someone you didn't know based on what you call your "stressful" life and how well you coped. If you don't know all the facts (I repeat facts, not just speculation), you should keep your opinions and your "look down you nose, I'm better than he was" attitude to yourself.

Why would you blame the FDA?? Each drug listed that was in Mr. Ledgers apartment is a safe and effective drug if taken as prescribed. Any one with a grain of common sense knows that you can't multiple sleeping pills, tranquilizers, etc. without risk of overdose. Why was Mr. Ledger obtaining these drugs from foreign pharmacies? Obviously he had become an addict. When your an addict, common sense goes by the wayside. My sincere sympathies to Mr. Ledgers family.

    • Posted By: marysbuggin @ 01/24/2008 3:58:06 PM

The reason Mr. Ledger had multiple foriegn prescriptions is that he was overseas filming a movie and had just arrived in New York over the weekend, not because he was getting them illegally. Please pay attention to the facts it is horrible how people are jumping to all kind of conclusions about his death. The sad fact is he is gone and we will never get to see him light up a movie screen again.I for one am heart broken as I have enjoyed every film he has done.

      • Posted By: thepoopster @ 01/24/2008 4:12:12 PM

true that man he was a great actor and he will never light up the screen again eccept for his role as the joker in the DArk knight which will be a great performance by him like always. he was and still will always be one of my personal favorite actors. i really wish he was still alive becuase i alway thought of him to be a lead role in a film script im working on but everyopne needs to just leave it alone becuase its deissrespectful to make all these claims about him

People do die everyday but people aren't famous everyday. Until you have walked in those shoes then you are being so cruel. He was followed paps and made great movies so you can't compare. He isn't the same kind of story as someone who has pasted in Afica with lack of food. There are thousands of that. He is a person who touched millions through the silver screen. You don't have anything that sucessful going on in your life. IM SURE.....He is comming out with a huge hit with Bat man and should have had many more sucesses. We don't know how he died or why. When the reports come out then maybe you will be satisfied. Probably not. I really enjoyed him and he was very talented.

  • Posted By: notmyrt2judge @ 01/24/2008 4:11:55 PM

Did I miss something? When did Heath Ledger suddenly become a known depressed, suicidal, guy who for sure overdosed on drugs? The last thing I saw was a report that said they were still waiting for the ME's report. Is there anyone out there that believes just maybe God has bigger and better plans for this man? And just maybe, he's looking down with disgust at how judgemental the world has become? Maybe we should all step back and look into our own problems before making ourselves God and judging this very talented young man.

Mess around, play around, get hurt. Taking a drug cocktail is stupid and irresponsible. And mostly selfish because his kid will never know her dad. "Another casualty of Hollywood"? Bull s#%T, just another person overstepping the boundaries. Do feel sorry for him and his family though...

  • Posted By: secure @ 01/24/2008 4:11:25 PM

give me a break,, the last comment has no basiis in reality, the media has a job to do- there is always going to be speculation. As long as they do it professionally, not like the swarmy Papparazi who dont give any freedom to stars everything is fine.

  • Posted By: leslieparsley101 @ 01/24/2008 4:11:19 PM

first of all may Heath rest in peace and his family find some comfort in this most difficult time. And for everyone else, it really does not matter to us what the cause of death was. I know we all are just curious when a celeb dies. But really ppl, he was human just like the rest of us and he has a family that hears what being said. We not to stop speculating that he committed suicide, that a family matter and should be kept private. I hop for Heath's family that they find comfort in the memories that they shared with Heath. Losing someone you love is terrible. But remember to celebrate his life everyday, and cherish the memories.Thats how you can keep him alive in your hearts... I am speaking from experience. I celebrate my loved one's life every day and it makes it a little easier.... God bless Heath's Family......

My heart goes out to Heath's family. His life was a star that shone brightly to millions the world over! He will be missed, and he will be remembered for the good that he has done. It's a shame that such a bright star had to be extinguinished so early. My prayers go out for anyone feeling pain during this time. May God bless and His arm embrace Heath and bring him into HIs kingdom, and may God bless all who are feeling pain and loss during this time.

My comment about his death is that we all have a time, a place and a means to our demise. Sometimes it's better to accept this and place our hopes to the departed's eternal soul.

who the hell really cares? we have got far worse problems than a dead actor. you all need to get a life.

Heath Ledgers death was a shock to me also. A very sad situation for his family, friends, and fans. Unlike some people, others obiviously care and will miss him. All with reason. His talent for all to see, gorgeous smile. and many more reasons. May he rest in peace and God Bless his family and friends through this rough time.

On the other side rude comments need to go left unsaid and obviously you had enough time in your busy life to post a comment and you probably read others comments. So have respect for him, his family, and fans.

For someone that said there are worse problems in the world then a dead actor and we need to get a life, well it looks like you took the time to make a comment just like everyone else. Its sad you think he was just a actor and nothing else.He was a son, a dad, a friend, a brother and most important a person so i feel bad for you and you need to find happiness in your life cause it shows that you are a mean person with no heart !!!!!!!!!

Who the hell do you think you are. saying something so cruel, you are a sick person or have never lost someone close to you, he was more than an actor.. Heath was a son a brother, and a father... didnt anybody teach you manners? " if you dont have anything nice to say then dont say anything at all"...acting was his job. it paid the bills and took care of his family. we should care, drugs are killing peolpe, so your little comment, about whoe cares, i do! doctor are killing people. so you go to hell. May we take the time to understand that we humans are affected by life and the stresses that come our way from time to time. Let us learn that even those that we put on pedistals are not without affected lives. There are questions realting to how the media is handeling the death of a young man who lived an affected life. There was pain somewhere in this fellow humans life and he was not able to reach out because maybe he had never been taught or given the true opportunity to experience to revieve positve heartfelt love. Love that comes from hearts that are guided from within and put there by Our Creator, Divine Mercy, and Comforter. May we remember Heath his daughter and those who embraced Heath with unconditional love. May we pray that the world would begin to see what can happen when we give ourselves over to Our Creator, Divine Mercy, and Comforter. "Pray for those who despitefully use you" and May we all embrace these words that we all should be able "No greater Love has anyone but to lay down his life for another"
May the world begin to draw near to the those in the world who do not understand LOVE and may it begin with me, you, and all the affected of this world.

He apeared to be a genuine guy, and lets face it thats what he was at the end of the day, no heirs and graces just a normal bloke who had a high profile job, and when he got home he was just someones next door neighbour. An accident pure and simple.
I'll miss the movies he could have made and i'll cherish the ones he did.
One day the hole he's left with his little girl will still be there, but less painfull, and i know she will be ok.
    He'll be greatly missed.

FIRST OF ALL...MOST OF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL OR WRITE A DECENT SENTENCE. SECONDLY....WE ARE NOT ANIMALS. WE MUST FEEL SOMETHING FOR A LIFE THAT HAS ENDED SO YOUNG. THERE ARE PEOPLE GRIEVING FOR HIM. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF HE WAS YOUR BROTHER, SON, COUSIN, OR LOVER? NO MATTER HOW HE DIED, IT IS STILL TRAGIC. IT IS ALSO TRAGIC BECAUSE THE WORLD LOSES A VERY TALENTED ACTOR. I THOUGHT HE WOULD BE AROUND FOR A LONG TIME. HE WAS GORGEOUS AND HE LOOKED SO LOVEABLE. I WILL MISS HIM SO MUCH. REST IN PEACE HEATH.

Whether they are legal drugs or not,, they are still drugs... People tend to forget that.. Yes, we did lose an actor that had a wonderful promising career left ahead of him.. I will be saddened everytime I see his face on the television,, but with this said,, this needs to be an example for all those people that feel the legal dose of medication does not fit your own amount. And to not take meds all at the same time,, and make sure with your doctor what pills go with what... He will be missed, and my heart goes out to his daughter and family...

I think we need to stop speculating about what happened inside heath's apartment. This is a private family matter and his family needs to grieve without having everyone making acusations that he committed suicide. As a famous person of course we are all intrigued to know what happened, but really folks, we should wait for an official statement. May heath rest in peace and may his family find some comfort in this most difficult time..... leslieTN

"Comment: Why does that matter. Will knowing how he died change the outcome. NO!...."
Knowing how he died will absolutley change the outcome...for those who become aware of the effects of mixing medeciations or taking more than perscribed. Unfortunately, it takes a tragedy for the general population to care enough to learn about tough issues.
