most likely one doctor did not prescribe all of those medications. I believe a number of articles report that two of the prescriptions were made in Europe. It is likely that he went to different doctors and failed to tell them what other drugs he was taking at the time. At the end of the day, we can't blame the medical field for everything. We have to take responsibility for our health. I think it's commonplace for people to go to different doctors in order to get prescriptions they shouldn't get or to get more of a particular prescription drug than they need in a given month.

Of course, I do wish his family well. And who knows what happened, but it's irresponsible to use this as a reason to attack the medical community. those particular drugs help a lot of people, and it's really only very recently that mental illness was taken seriously enough to make such medications available to people who are suffering.

I take two different types of antidepressants, because they both act on different neurotransmitters. I also take an anti-anxiety medication similar to alprozalam. But the information that comes with those prescriptions is *very* clear about the potential dangers and the need to (a) inform your doctor of any other prescriptions or even over-the-counter drugs you are taking and (b) only take the dosage prescribed by your doctor.

I would like to agree with you. I'm on a number of medications that I get from one doctor and I go to one pharmacy. I take my medications as prescribed for the very reason that I know how dangerous it can be to mix the wrong ones or take too much. In the end, we are all responsible for ourselves. I feel horrible for Mr. Ledger and his family and understand that when seeking relief for anxiety or sleeplessness, you can become desperate to get it. I've been there. I would imagine this was accidental. I hope people can be understanding even if they don't suffer from these ailments themselves and be careful if they do.

When you hear reporters from Fox News, namely John Gibson speak of a 28 year old male who has tragically died with ZERO sensitivity, ZERO respect or ZERO compassion for the pain of other human beings...well that's FOX NEWS for you.

I just figured something out. This actor must have been a real good one. I never saw any of his movies but from all the comments on his life and death; more than I've recieved from day one, I came to this conclusion. So now even though he's dead and gone I'm going to check it out and see how impressive he is. Cuz his death sure has made a big impression. Remember when Elvis died of prescription drugs? He was great. I'm going out get a dvd with Heath Ledger in it pronto. I love great actors. Like James Dean I guess.?????

This post is really cold and self-centered! This is all you could think of to say, " that he must have been a good actor" and then compare him to Elvis because he died of an overdose of prescription drugs. I believe that Elvis' death is totally different because I believe that Elvis knew what he was doing when taking all those drugs. Where is your compassion?

Food for thought.....Why don't doctors put their prescriptions in web based worldwide tracking, so people don't doctor hop or get medicine that dosn't interact well with other's already prescrided by doctors. This is a huge problem...Look at Anna Nicole and many more hollywood elite.

    • Posted By: personcl @ 01/24/2008 3:25:18 PM

it's more a problem with the hollywood elite. seriously. most people can't afford just one prescription of a drug they truly need (for mental health, physical health, et cetera). Let's not be naive.

He was a good actor. Perhaps he was a good man (i doubt anyone on this message board actually knew the guy or ever even talked to him). But he wasn't a saint. Who knows what happened. Leave it to the autopsy, and then, leave the results for the family to deal with.

on a side note, it is rather disappointing how many people cry out that they 'love' someone they have never met just because he was a good actor and seemed like he might be a nice guy.

      • Posted By: actuallymethim @ 01/24/2008 3:37:16 PM

met him.........knew him............and he really was a genuine and kind soul...........human like everyone else but not a "hollywood" person. A wonderful neighbor.

You would think that the health insurance companies would see it since they pay for these prescriptions. When my ex goes to get his scripts filled a few days earlier then he should, they notice that and do not refill until the month is up....

I will miss him greatly. He was a great actor who admired because he knew when to say no to roles and how to take care of his daughter outside of the limelight unlike some others who i don't respect at all. You can tell how big he heart was in his smile and in the few pictures of him and his beautiful daughter. I know she will miss him and I hope she realizes later on that she was his life not that hee's career was because it wasn't at all. I think he put he's famliy first and his job last. I'm still in shock because I'm on several of the same medications and have overdosed but was saved so i don't understand how god can take a away a great father, man, friend, son, brother, and actor from this world that needs alot more men like health. Rest In Peace Health you will be missed and loved by most of the world

Several professionals have stated how it is a deadly combination. You've just admitted you've "overdosed" several times? So why blame "God" what does he have to do with it? We are all responsible for our own actions and the situations we put ourselves in. God bless you, hopefully you will carefully reconsider all the medications you are on and perhaps look for different methods on how to deal with illnesses. There are other alternatives, it's all about educating yourself which is part of taking responsiblity for your life. May I suggest looking into a raw life nutritionist such as Mr. Fred Bisci. He has helped plenty of people with illnesses through raw nutrition. all the best.

Young Hollywood has it SO tough. These kids need to get a grip.

  • Posted By: betsy1120 @ 01/24/2008 2:15:24 PM

My sister has suffered for 20 years from depression. Some many drugs have been pumped into her and no one in my family can get any answers from her already crazy husband who treats her poorly and raises 5 kids in the worst ways. Its almost an ordeal with no real answers at times.

      • Posted By: D. Marie @ 01/24/2008 3:35:52 PM

Who cares?? We all should............that is what's wrong with the world. God did not put us here to condemn or judge. He put us here to CARE about mankind, whether you know them or not. Shame on you!!

It seems like there is a "hole" in Hollywood that there isn't someone professionally really looking out for stars who are perhaps manifesting signs of overload in the many demands put upon them. It certainly seems like there are a number who aren't coping with the complex life and it more serves voracious media than seeming to produce and support benefit for the actor. Didn't we learn anything from the plights of Judy Garland, Marilyn Munroe...we just sort of watched them "implode" ..and then moaned about it. At least it seems like that on the outside.. Sad.

I also believe that when it's your time to go it's your time to go...... I'm not saying he tried to overdose on purpose the only thing that I am saying is when I was 17yrs old, I took a bottle of prozac, a bottle of Vicodin, a bottle of valium and I don't know what other pills I consumed. My intention was to commit suicide. I took the pills about 2:45 am and my parents found me the next morning about 9:30am. I was in a coma for about 2-3 days. I woke up in CCU and the doctors and all the medical staff thought that it was a miracle of god that I'm still alive and healthy. The doctor's thought that if I were to wake up I would have had brain damage. I did go into respitory arrest and my heart stopped due to that. I was on life support until I was able to breathe on my own. God bless him and his family.

When you have reporters like John Gibson of FOX news make insensitive, disgusting comments about the death of a 28 year old human being, I just wonder what happened to morals, ethics and ...oh sympathy when someone dies...geez I guess that's what has died, especially with FOX NEWS...

he was an amazing man, with many talents. I am a young fan i loved all of his movies especially a nights tale that was the one that grasped my attention. He was a compassionate actor and amazing at what he did. Its sad that he wont get to see him little girl grow up. Although there are many things that he could have done in the future i think it is more important to remember him for what he did accomplish and how well he portrayed himself on and off the screen. Its amazing to me that people would assume other dugs were involved or that he killed himself. That is unbelievable to me. Heath Ledger was a young handsome and dignified young man it is unfair to ruin his reputation by making assumptions he was and always will be remembered as a great talented young man that stole the hearts of fans all over the world

There are many individuals that contribute hours upon hours of charity work and others that give thankless gifts of inspiration everyday and around the world and go unoticed. Maybe we should offer our sympathy to the family and move on to other note worthy individuals who have been lost tragically and spotlight their achievements...then we might end our sick obsession (addiction) with celebrity fault and failure and move on as a kind and caring society willing to act as those mourned and lost attempted to act.

  • Posted By: getwithit43 @ 01/24/2008 3:34:27 PM

Its sad. No doubt. I think that some of these people who have so much time on their hands should form a coalition and go after the big drug companies and see if they can make some changes. Make someone sit up and take notice, all you ever hear is the same babble when a celebrity dies from intentional or unintentional drug overdose. Again, I say we have no infomtation as to who what and when for the particulars as to how he got the meds. So until medical records are made public, in total violation of the HIPAA laws, we will never know the exacts of everything. We still have no idea about Anna Nicole, and they know for sure something was defeinitely amiss there, and no charges after all this time and none expected.

Hollywood gives up their right to privacy the minute they let themselves be photographed when they want to be in the spotlight, when they take their awards, and when they get into their political rants. His family is asking for privacy....why didn't they want Heath to have privacy when he was raking in the money for BrokeBack Mountain?
