Billary//HRC and her repulsive spouse are two of a kind. She is a low-life liar and mud slinging hardcore feminist who will do anything to get her self-entiitled place in the whitehouse. She has been watching and probably cheering him on through all of his abuse of women. Yes, it's her business if her husband is a lying adulterer but it is my business if I have to be force fed another display of his treacherous behavior. They are horrific and this country doesn;t need to witness their antics anymore.

Lets' stop being silly, If you take away everyone's name and race, you get a good fight for the nomination. I would also point out that no one is talking about the talk show host that came out for Obama. (Gender not to be mentioned) That talk show host is suffering a huge backlash. Obama is an excellent orator however, that will not protect this country, fix the economic mess we are in or put my family members to work. It is extraordinarily narcissistic to complain about a real fight for the oval office. I would rather have a fighter (or 2) in the Whitehouse than a whiner with all talk and no substance.

    • Posted By: jenniferNH @ 01/24/2008 2:21:10 PM

This is not aboutn being a fighter or not- this is about honesty. The same strategy of distortion and taking comments totally out of context is EXACTLY how Bush duped the public and the press to go to war- see the recently released report. Do you want another president that believes the ends justify the means? What price will we pay this time for dishonest leadership? Spirited debate on policy and dishonest manipulation of the truth are not equivalent in my world.

Why are people angry with Oprah? Are they not able to think for themselves? Is Oprah supposed to vote for Hillary simply because she's a woman? I'd rather have a candidate defend themself against accusations than to take the so-called "high-road" of not saying anything. If somebody is spreading lies about you then you have an obligation to defend yourself and set the record straight.

And if Hillary wins, well we're going to be stuck with 4 or 8 more years of partisan fighting and deadlock. There are a lot of Dems in the country who are itching for payback against the conservatives and that's exactly what's going to happen if Hillary wins the presidency.

And it's ridiculous to call Obama a whiner. He's in a no-win situation. If he fights back, he's called a whiner and is accused of playing dirty. And if he takes the "high-road" and doesn't refute the Clinton's accusations, then everybody assumes that the accusations are true and it damages his reputation and hopes for the nomination.

i am so sick of the obama bias on msnbc, abc, cnn, newsweek, et al. you must think (like you think the clinton's think) that the vast bulk of the population are pretty dumb and that we would automatically believe clinton=bad, obama=good just because you're saying it. you imply, since "obama is stronger among well-educated democrats," that people who are smart enough to know better about these kinds of things will choose him. and i know you like the rose coloured glasses. but the reality is, as you go further up the ranks in academia or the professional world, things start looking more and more white, and those whiter and whiter groups have more and more white guilt based on their privileged status. as a white person with a phd, i can tell you: obama and his so-called speaking ability makes me yawn. he inspiring only for those hordes who think oprah wisdom is insightful. it is true that lots of my educated white friends say they really like him, and when you ask them why, when you press them, they essentially say it has something to do with the fact that he???s black. they say something like ???we???re ready for a black president.??? they want the blackness of their presidential candidate to make them feel less bad about the historical disparities between black and white in the western world, or in the world at large. but the thing is, with the kinds of real problems we face in the world today, with the prospects of global warming and al quaida trying to get nukes, those of us who care about our children???s future have much more pressing real-world concerns than to root for some kind of symbolic racial recompense that makes them feel all fuzzy on the inside. america owes it to their country and their future to elect only the most qualified. and the only thing obama has done was to beat alan keyes!

I could easily respond to your banter with equal ignorance and/or rhetoric, but since I consider myself to be more evolved I will respond with the following:

He helped pass complicated measures in the Illinois legislature on the death penalty, racial profiling, health care and more. In Washington, he has worked with Republicans on nuclear proliferation, government waste and global warming, amassing a record that speaks to a fast start while lacking the heft of years of service.
After college he worked with poor families on the South Side to get improvements in public housing, particularly the removal of asbestos.
Obama also fought for student summer jobs and a program to keep at-risk children from dropping out of school. More importantly, say those who worked with Obama, he showed people how to organize and confront powerful interests.
After getting his law degree at Harvard Law (Magna *** Laude and Editor of the Harvard Law Review)ward, he returned to Chicago and ran Project VOTE. Registration jumped nearly 15 points between the 1992 primary and the general election.
Obama then spent several years focusing on the law, both as an attorney at a small firm specializing in civil rights and as a lecturer on constitutional law at the University of Chicago.
Obama also helped set up Illinois' "KidCare" program that provided health care to children in families that did not qualify for Medicaid.
When Democrats gained a majority in the Senate, Obama's political mentor, Senate President Emil Jones, gave him high-profile assignments, including two contentious issues involving police ??? videotaped interrogations and racial profiling.
Police weren't happy about recording their interrogations of murder suspects or having to study racial bias in traffic stops. Initially, they opposed both pieces of legislation.
But Obama made clear that something was going to pass with or without their support. Ultimately, police groups endorsed both bills and they won unanimous approval in the Senate.
One of his Republican colleagues was so wowed that he has appeared in an Obama campaign ad
He became a state lawmaker in 1997, four years ahead of Hillary Clinton's entrance into elected office, as U.S. senator.
He teamed with Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., to study the dangers of nuclear proliferation and pass legislation meant to keep nuclear material from falling into the hands of terrorists.
Obama also joined with Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., after Hurricane Katrina to improve oversight of federal spending.
I hope those weren't too many words for you to comprehend, if so, get a dictionary.

you say you are a white man with a phd, but you are really a white man with a bad case of hate. Your first line of being sick of the Obama bias is a bunch of crap...msnbc for example has people on like Joan W. and Pat(redfaced)Bucanhan, Chris Crawford, etc. Hardball, Keith O. these shows cater to the Clinton's. You, just like all of them hide behind your hypicritical ways by taking the time to bash Obama soley because he's black. Quit calling others names your afraid to look in the mirror to see...people like you hide on the internet and blogs like this...You'd never come out in the real world and show your true colors because it's so easy to hide right here with words...we see through you skroo22

Southeren Bell, I understand Obama comments that Regan tranformed politics. I disliked his policies for they where very harmfull to the most vunerable Americans, With this said Regan was hard to dislike even with his voodoo economics that were injurise to many in this nation. As a black person in his fifties I was taken aback. The real problem for me was the timing. This was an opportunity for the canidate to address the black constituants in SC but that did not happen. As a life time democrate I and many others are tired of this party thinking we owe them our vote or it is automatic. We share many of the same issues as the rest of the nation but have like any other group particular issues that need to be addressed.

Mrs. Clinton had better be careful. If she happens to win the nomination she'll have a BIG problem on her hands. She and Bill have so angered the Democratic activists that support Obama that she'll be lucky if they show up at the polls and vote for her, let alone knock on doors and work to get out the vote. BAD, BAD move on her part. She is everything that some of us said she was - ambitious to a fault, calculating beyond reason, and willing to split her party in her pursuit of winning.
This may turn out to be a crummy election - her on one side and "let's go to war" John McCain on the other. How sad for the American people!!

The Bill and Hillary show is disgraceful. Now I realize what the Republicans gave been so infuriated about . Ironically as they fragment the Democrats, their nominatioin would unify the Republicans. Will the democratic primary voter figure this out in time are will they blow another chance at the White House.
Obama is the only logical chioce for 2008.

It is damaging to the party. If Hillary is the candidate, I WILL vote Republican. She has shown her true colors with these attacks on Obama. Personality does matter.

The Clintons lost Iowa because it was only Hillary running and they all kept it relatively clean. When that earned her third place, she realized she had nothing to lose and simply unloaded every lie, smear and distortion they could come up with. They continue, and it is devastating the Democratic Party and even hurting the country -- politics of division is what it is called. You create a wedge issue to divide people up into groups where your numbers come out slightly ahead. Their lust for the White House reveals their complete lack of integrity.

...and the only reason Hillary did not leave Bill is because she knew she needed him for this run! She'll do anything--even give up her dignity--for power and position. I supported Bill twice and stood with him through Monica. I'm done!

I like both Hilary and Obama but I am very put off by Bill Clinton chiming in and as a result will vote for Obama in the California primary. As a former president of the United States Bill Clinton's words carry far more authority and influence than your ordinary candidate's spouse and as such he should be responsible and mindful in what he says. Obviously he is not and I am extremely disappointed in the Clintons..

    You're wrong.

I'm a well-educated Democrat who became very angry at Obama's words concering the Republican's having "fresher" ideas. I completely disagree with that statement and believe he is very ignorant of the realities of those Republcian "ideas" in the 80s and 90s or is pandering to independents and conservative Democrats.

The media just isn't getting why so many Democrats are angry at Obama.

    • Posted By: BHNV @ 01/24/2008 2:09:50 PM

If "many Democrats" are angry at a candidate for stating fact, it's because they're biased (Hillary said it and God forbid she be wrong) or plain and simple stupid, and therefore vulnerable to the patronizing strategy. Or was that some OTHER country I was living in when some guy named Reagan won with broad popular support including Democrats, and enticed legislators across the aisle into backing his (odious) policies?

  • Posted By: dotshock @ 01/24/2008 2:09:48 PM

The only way you are going to get the kind of change Obama speaks about to occur during the next Presidency is to do a total House and Senate Cleansing. You vote out the incumbant and start over with an entirely green bunch, but a bunch highly motivated to do the will of the people. There would be no status quo, lobbyists would lose their stronghold and have to try to rebuild their powerful networks. I'm all for that and have wanted it for some time. I don't like the fact that those in the House and Senate have a good salary, don't work as many hours as I do, have unlimited Health benefits for life after theyleave, but won't do my bidding or the bidding of the majority of voters. While we still can, doing a Congressional Cleansing would have far reaching benefits for the voters, but it ain't going to happen.

Those labeling the Clintons as being some kind of demonic figures have no respect from me. It demonstrates how shallow of beings they are, and, it shows that the Republican Noise machine is being successful at getting labels afixed to Dems so you have Dems bad mouthing other Dems. The Clintons should be admired as to how well they have held up over decades of unfair press and relentless attacks on their business and personal lives, in an attempt to derail the Democratic party. Are you really not going to support HRC if she is the nominee? So you'd vote Republican before supporting your party's nominee. I am very ashamed of you. You do not deserve to be a Democrat. You are pathetic and ignorant beyond hope if you are truly serious. If you think that kind of talk would sway someone to switch their candidate support you are gravely mistaken.

I'll support the Dem nominee whoever it is; however, I'll forecast this . . . if Obama is the nominee , gets elected President ,and the Republicans are not an overwhelming minority in Congress, then we are in for 4 to 8 years of slander, drummed up charges, and unjustified investigations into inpropriety. He will never get a chance to enact policy becuase they will put him on the defense starting on day 1 of his Presidency, and he will be spending all his time defending himself. They have already done this to HRC. Who will want to go through it again on her? It would be more inclined to backfire than against Obama.

Those of you who are "so sickened by the Clintons" advertise the extent of you gullibility and are resigning yourself to a long time of ill feelings if she becomes the next President. I really hope she does become our next Presdient so she has the chance to squelch the fears of those who assasinate her character from within her own party. To those who think its more of a major historical event to have a Black President than a Woman President, I totally disagree. To those who think it will be easier to elect Obama President than HRC, I want some of what your are smokin'. I'm a man who wants to see something other than a dick in the Presidency before I die.

Thank you Mr.Alter!! I have always liked the Clintons but am really turned off by these attacks by Hillary. Attack O'Bama's present votes, his health care plan or the merits of foreign policy but stop calling him names are just referring to his policies as dumb or the like. I am smarter than that and I am ashamed that after what she endured at the hands of the Republicans, she would use such tactics. I want us as Democrats to be above the fray - fight about policy and substance not just see who can win the insult contest. I want our ideas to be better not just beat them like a schoolyard brawl. For these reasons, I find it more and more difficult to support her.

I would also like to point out that the media prefers the schoolyard brawl. It is more exciting and gets better ratings. Just look at the debates and the questions asked. The moderators seemed to be in search of a fight rather than clarification of policy.

Couldn't get past the third paragraph of this article. Where is your data to support such an outlandish unjournalistic statement that voters aren't as dumb as the Clintons think they are? This kind of so-called Journalism is what the mainstream voters are really sick and tired of reading.

Obama supporters: Man I love where your hearts are, but its one thing to talk about major changes in Washington and the government, its a whole different thing to enact it. You have to have enough respect by those across the aisle to make them bi-partisan enough to allow change to occur. Obama does not have the networking to pull it off. How could he? He's in his first term as an Illionois Senator and has spent the entire time running for President. A hell of a lot of us know his timing is wrong by about 8 years. Do you honestly think that after the last 8 years of Right Wing politics that any Dem Candidate will be able to swing the pendulum past center and to the Left? We need to swing that pendulum in controlled measures so as to never lose Congressional power and let corruption again Govern us. HRC is the best person to get that pendulum swinging left by first taking us more to the center.

  • Posted By: R M K @ 01/24/2008 2:08:05 PM

Thank you, Jonathan, for hitting the nail on the head. The Clintons' smear tactics and distortion of the truth make my head spin. How Bill Clinton has ANY credibility remaining among Democrats is a mystery to me. When campaigning in Iowa we heard from his own lips that he had wisely expressed opposition to the invasion of Iraq -- if only he had! In fact, there was no judicious leadership from either Clinton when our country desperately needed it; just the opposite. I guess that???s what 35 years of experience gets you. Now we hear from Bill Clinton that Barack Obama's record of opposition is a fairy tale. How's that for an alternate reality? Up is down and down is up. Enough already. Thankfully, in 2008, we CAN turn the page. Change we can believe in--Obama '08.

I don't understand why people are so supportive of the Bill and Hillary show. I don't understand why we would want to and need to have over 25 years of a Bush or Clinton in the White House. It makes no sense. Hillary Supporters - please don't just vote for her because she's a strong woman or that you think, for some reason, Bill was a good president. Let's move on from the Bush and Clintons - we can do so much better. Don't vote for Clinton.

    • Posted By: every_other_nickname_is_taken @ 01/24/2008 2:05:50 PM

I agree. I'll never understand why some people will vote for a candidate simply because they're a certain gender or race. Hillary seems insincere and will say anything to get elected. Obama seems genuine and as a registered Republican, I actually believe him when he says that he wants to unite the country and get away from the divisive issues of the 60's that were fought in the 90's. I actually support Ron Paul, but if the Dems do win, I hope it's Obama.

I find myself wondering where Bill has been over the last seven years. It would have been nice to hear his voice when times are tough. But I guess there was nothing in it for him.

    • Posted By: JeanB99 @ 01/24/2008 2:05:18 PM

Starbuck1 re your comment as to wondering where Bill Clinton has been over the last seven years. Apparently you are not familar with the Clinton Global Initiative. I believe there have been three annual meetings so far in which he assembles world leaders, business executives, philanthropists, etc. and asks each to make a specific written commitments for plans for addressing poverty, global warming, religious conflict and better governance. If you don't meet your committment, you don't get invited back.
President Clinton also worked on fund raising for Tsunami relief with President Bush 41 and the two of them set up a charity to help Katrina victims.

This is testing whether Obama can handle it? And who's running to big bad Bill for support and attack dog comments? The Clintons are sadly making Democrats look like fools. They are united today in this common purpose, but who is to say it will stay that way should HIllary be elected? We saw her jaw-dropping expression as he walked away from her in a restaurant and carried the press with him. Perhaps we should start asking serious questions about his role in her candidacy, because clearly he's going to play a big part. It is embarrassing that they would do everything they can to tear down such a promising man for the country, Barack Obama. How much sadder that they may actually succeed.

    • Posted By: BabyBoomerForChange @ 01/24/2008 2:03:12 PM

Bill's role? This will be like a 3rd term! Think about it. Does anyone believe Bill will relegate himself to First Gentleman? He will have a tremendous influence on things. I voted for Bill twice and stood by him during Monica. But the more I see of him now, the less I want to see. We Baby Boomers just have to let it go. It's time for a president with fresh ideas from ANOTHER GENERATION. Let's move on.
