This article is exactly what my family, friends and I have been discussing; are the majority of Democratic voters that mis-informed, stupid, or have had complete memory loss to Bill Clinton's performance during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, for which we all got the priviledge of spending our tax money on? I can hardly find the words to express how disgusted I am how they are running their campaign; and I say "their" purposefully. I am a Democrat; but I will NOT give my vote to Hillary Clinton if she is the nominee...the Clintons are a disgusting example of the dishonesty in American Politics that I for one, am very weary of...

I'm in total agreement that the Clinton's believe that all Democrats are just incredibly stupid or brain-dead! Surprise-we're not!!!! And further more, we see through the deception that the Clinton's are trying to spoon feed us about Senator Obama. Our country has serious issues going on right now...the economy being #1, our country has been divided for too long by party politics #2 and we need someone with answers and not spin!!!!!

I have voted mostly Democratic during my lifetime - but must say that Hillary lost me at the time Pres. Bush declared war on Iraq. I remember a news clip showing Senator Clinton standing behind and to the side of Pres. Bush - smiling and talking to someone beside her, at the same time our Bush was discussing the need for the war. I remember thinking at the time that Senator Clinton and Pres. Bush appeared to be united - and that the prospect of war did not seem as disturbing to her as it should be to someone who has been elected to serve and protect. Even so I may have reconsidered and voted for her - if I thought she was the best candidate to bring jobs, and cheaper energy, and healthcare, to my community - although I think I would vote for a pink 2-headed goat - if I thought their campaign promises would actually be more than talk. But as a woman and public servant for over 20 years - I am thoroughly disgusted with the behavior of both the senator and the former president. The disrespect, intolerance, arrogance and sense of entitlement displayed towards the other candidates is just as disrespectful towards each and every one of us as hardworking citizens of this country. We deserve so much better. I disagree with the Pat Buchanan's of the world who feel that "the end justify the means" - he and others with the same philosophy are being very unfair to us all. I heard on the news that Bill has been heard telling voters "a vote for Hillary is a vote for me'. The polls suggest that the "Clintons" have a good chance of winning - and I am beginning to lose hope for our country.

Right on Becky from Michigan! I totally agree. Also, when an ex-president trundles around and states, that Obama is "putting a hit out on him". Also, I have grave concerns about their approach to the economy. I remember when we weren't watching them and their myriad of tawdry scandals, I was being taxed out of my mind under Bill. Also, who is going to be Hillary's VP, in the disturbing scenario in which she would actually be president? And, what role would Bill be playing? The way he has been speaking it's like he thinks he's going to be president again. The duo are repugnant and I wish they would go away and take their carny act somewhere else.

Alter, are you being paid by Obama's campaign to write this drivel?? I remember that right after Iowa you also wrote a piece that totally praised Obama and basically stated that he would now go on to win the nomination. Well, you were wrong then and you're wrong now. If anyone is being patronizing, you are. Politics is indeed a contact sport, and Newsweek itself in it's fact-check articles has shown that both ALL the candidates have fudged something or other in their campaign. I am one of those well-educated people--I have a PhD, and I will never support Obama. He is too young and has no real policies that I can see after having watched every debate. Clinton has every right to attack his record and the things he says, and I'm sorry, but he very well did imply that the Republicans had good ideas, I don't care how you want to spin it. He should have never even been talking about Reagan and the rest of it--that was really a stupid move. He started it, and Clinton is just finishing. If he can't stand up to this, then he has no business running let alone being the president. And you know what? If Clinton wasn't a woman most of this wouldn't even be an issue--but women are supposed to be nice. Well, nice won't get us what we need. Obama, and you Mr. Alter, need to stop whining about the Clintons and come up with some real answers about his positions and some real policies to make this country work. He needs to focus on what he is going to do, instead of what everyone else is ostensibly doing to him. Grow up already. This is what Clinton has done. All the beautiful rhetoric in the world means nothing without something real behind it. Mr. Obama needs to get real.

Too bad your PHD doesn't help you remember "spell check", or for that matter basic grammar. To address your rambling attack, Obama said, "I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it. I think they felt like with all the excesses of the 1960s and 1970s and government had grown and grown but there wasn't much sense of accountability in terms of how it was operating. I think people, he just tapped into what people were already feeling, which was we want clarity we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing." What's wrong with that? Reagan did have good ideas, and he had bad ideas. Just like every president. Also, your issue about Obama being to young is ridiculous. Since when is 46 too young? JFK was 43 when he became president, Bill Clinton as 47 when he became president, and Putin was 47 when he became acting president of Russia. So, your argument is specious. It would appear you need to get real, when many people I know believe CNN, MSNBC, etc. are pro-Billary. Good luck with your attitude.

      • Posted By: drsyko1 @ 01/24/2008 3:26:53 PM

Thanks for making my argument for me. As I said, he did imply that Reagan and Republicans had good ideas. As for the rest of your personal attack, that just shows that you have no real logical way to refute what I said. My spelling and grammar are both correct, and if there were some mistakes, so what?? Personal attacks are the purview of little minds. Saying that people were the same age when they became presidents is not an argument that this is a good or appropriate age to be president. it is only stating an obvious fact, not making an argument as to whether that fact is meaningful. I also said nothing about certain media outlet political stance--that came out of your own fantasy reading of my comment. I only stated that I believe Mr. Alter to be biased. I am entitled to my opinion, as you are to yours. I just find it sad that you couldn't just write your own comment and try to make some kind of worthwhile argument to back up what you have to say. It's really kind of pathetic that you feel the need to attack others instead of standing on your own two feet to make your points. In fact, it kind of reminds me of Obama . . . .

        • Posted By: bluethunder1962 @ 01/24/2008 4:24:46 PM

I thought you weren't going to be reading anything after your 15:34 comment. Your the one who had to mention you had a PhD (big "wow" factor there), which implies a rigorous course of study, where research and papers and thesis projects require fairly accurate spelling and grammar. Thus, when you indicated you had a PhD, I assumed I would be reading something well written, thoughtful, and accurate. I won't make that assumption again. Alas, I didn't make your argument for you. You never had an argument to begin with. And, finally you didn't address the apparent lack of logic in stating that Obama is too young to be president, when I pointed out that then JFK and Clinton shouldn't have been president of the U.S. based on your flawed reasoning. As for the "Your entitled to your opinion, I'm entitled to mine" then why did you feel a need to respond twice to my "opinion". Well I did throw in a few facts as well.

      • Posted By: drsyko1 @ 01/24/2008 3:34:00 PM

Oh, and don't bother replying again, as I won't be reading anything else you have to say. Your only purpose seems to be to act hateful rather than to engage in any real discourse. So, go back in your little corner and spell and grammar check yourself.

THE ONE THING I HAVE ALWAYS NOTICED ABOUT OBAMA IS A QUALITY NOT SEEN OR HERD OF IN DC FOR 30 YEARS! HE DOES LISTEN, AND HERES,, AND ALWAYS TAPS THOSE WHO KNOW MORE THAN HE, IN ANY GIVEN AREA! ITS THE PERSON AT THE TOP, BUT IT'S ALSO WHO HE LISTENS TO, AND OBAMA HERES THE PEOPLE, AND HIS ADVISORS. SOMETHING DIFFERENT TODAY IN POLITICS! PLEASE FOR OUR CHILDREN! IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHO WINS, DON'T VOTE GOP! JUST DON'T VOTE. OUR COUNTRY CANNOT AFFORD, OR CONTINUE THIS COURSE FOR ANOTHER DAY. THE COURSE CHANGE NEEDED, IS TO REBUILD OUR COUNTRY! NOT SOME ONE ELSES! THANKS

Great Read! This whole thing is crazy. We have the video AND the transcripts of exactly what Obama said. The Clintons' attempt to lie and twist this against Obama shows how desparate and despicable they are. Obama is right. The Clintons will do or say anything to get elected!

  • Posted By: Observer08 @ 01/24/2008 1:29:13 PM

    Sam I am,
Like Obama is not completely driven by left wing liberal ideology, Obama supporters are also driven by common sense and agree with Obama to built a broad coalition of dem, repub and inependents to get things done. Honesty and authenticity is important to Obama supporters. That's why they are supporting Obama to deliver change we can believe in. Not only democrats are voting for Obama, but also independent and Republican and people who never used to vote before. Obama said it right, many of these people supporting Obama will not rally behind Clinton because they don't believe in her. They can't support someone who uses lies, distortion and smears against others, knowing she will do the same as the President. So it will be Bush and Rove in lipstick in white house. Clearly Obama supporters want to change that. I am sure many will support McCain since McCain and Clinton have identical positions on foreign policy but McCain is an honest, dignified man. Clinton should watch out the hole they are digging for themselves. This is not 1992.

    • Posted By: lamm01 @ 01/24/2008 4:14:28 PM

You're entirely incorrect. I am a Clinton supporter and under no circumstances will I or others vote for Obama. And if his camp continues to play the "race" card and infer that white voters are racist in not voting for black man as they did in New Hampshire, he will only further alienate white voters and the Democrats will not win back the White House

  • Posted By: cben @ 01/24/2008 4:13:28 PM

I heard Obma say that, "For the past 10 or 15 years, the Republicans have been the party of ideas." Now we know that he was quoting Pat Moynihan, but Moynihan was talking about the Reagan years. Reagan's last day in office was about 19 years ago. The "past 10 or 15 years" had Bush, Clinton, and Bush in office. So it seems to me that President and Senator Clinton were reacting to what they see as a put-down of Presiden Clinton's Democratic party, not praise for Reagan's Republican party. I do not think that the party of Bush, Bush, Gingrich, Frist, and McConnell et al has been the party of ideas. I think that Clinton, Gore, Ted Kennedy, etc. have been putting forth better ideas for the past 10 or 15 years than any of the Republican leaders of that time.

Unfortunately, it appears that with the "contact sport" comment, Mr. Clinton thinks he's already back in the White House with Monica, I mean Hillary.....it seams that too many of our politicians think the election and political process is just one big game and they carry this over into the governing process...perhaps if they treated the people and the dollars we entrust to them with respect and as more than just a game, we'd see some effective results in Washington....but that's probably just wishful thinking....

  • Posted By: jangri @ 01/24/2008 4:12:18 PM

I aggree totally with your article. I feel that Obama needs to stay on the trail with the uplifting eloquence and intelligent explainations and not allow the Clintons to get under his skin.

I will not vote for Hill and Bill though I could not bring myself to vote for a Republican.

I pray Obama or Edwards win the nomination.

I lived in Arkansas as a teenager and loved Bill Clinton. I followed him as a governor and worked on his campaign. I am so disgusted with Bill and Hillary I would never EVER vote for them now. i will vote for Obama here in Ohio and i will never look at Bill the same. He and his wife are liars.

Wow, this article comes up and the smear ad in S.C. comes down. Amazing. Looks like we can expect a tear from Hillary tomorrow. Also explains why Chelsea Clinton articles are starting to pop-up.

Someone at Clinton Inc. seriously miscalculated when they thought it would be a good thing to get Bill out there so much and that half-truth smear campaigning would take down a movement. It's official, the internet, what was learned by John Kerry's loss in '04 on how to best handle swift-boating and the 24 hour news machine has taken down the Clinton's. Time of death - 11:29 a.m. ET Jan 24, 2008.

Clinton jumpers, we welcome you with open arms. We make love, not war with the rest of our party, so come on over. We understand where the true fight will be.

  • Posted By: lsekhar @ 01/24/2008 2:46:18 PM

I was seriously thinking about voting for Hillary, and was ambivalent about Obama. However, seeing the "real Hillary", I will vote for a Republican candidate than vote for her, and her lying husband again!

    • Posted By: lamm01 @ 01/24/2008 4:03:40 PM

How naive.... Get over it... Politicians lie and the Clintons aren't the only ones doing it.

  • Posted By: boni @ 01/24/2008 2:53:21 PM

In the next democratic debate, I would like Senator Obama to look directly at Mrs. Clinton and ask the following question: Have you no sense of decency that you continue to distort my words? Is there no other way for you and your husband to gain political power except at the expense of truth and honesty?

    • Posted By: lamm01 @ 01/24/2008 4:02:53 PM

No one is distoring his words. He just doesn't have anything relevent or appropriate to say when he isn't quoting dead presidents and civil rights leaders.

The latest attacks on Obama insult voters' intelligence."

And articles like this insult your readers' intelligence. Quit fanning this fire, Newsweek.

I'M A DUMB WHITE MALE WHO IS UNDECIDED, BUT THE MORE OBAMA AND CLINTON ARE IN THE FRONT SLAPPING MUD EVERY WHICH WAY AND LOSE! I'LL LEAN TO THE SILENT ONE, EDWARDS! WHO IS THE PROPER CHOICE TO REBUILD, OUR COUNTRY, NOT IRAQ OR IRAN! REBUILD THE USA! IF CLINTON OR OBAMA GET THE NOMINATION, SOME SAY THEY WOULD GO GOP, BUT PLEASE DO THIS COUNTRY A FAVOR. I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SAYING, BUT THE BIG PICTURE REQUIRES ME TO ASK IF YOU DON'T WANT EITHER, JUST DON'T VOTE! OR PLAN ON "STAYING THE COURSE" RIGHT INTO IRAN BECAUSE PAKISTAN IS NUCLEAR? SOME COURSE HU! VOTE DEM OR DON'T VOTE, AS THERE BEST CHOICE IS FAR TO OLD TO LAST, AND A DAN QUAIL TYPE OF VP IS NOT WHO YOU WANT AT THE TOP IS IT?

  • Posted By: Mr. Ceroy @ 01/24/2008 1:55:40 PM

It is a sad day in this country when politicians count on mass ignorance for their election. The tactics of using subtle racial inuendos to create a "white backlash" against Obama is disgusting. It reminds me so much of the lies and half-truths that George Bush and Karl Rove have used to the detriment of this country's military and economy. I have been a supporter of Bill Clinton all of my adult life, but I will not support Hillary Clinton in the fall should she defeat Obama with these blatantly false accusation. And yes, I am a well-educated black man.

Interesting new poll out of South Carolina

In a new Clemson University Palmetto Poll in South Carolina (Jan. 15-23, Dem LV, MoE +/- 4.6%), Obama's support came in below 30% for the first time in any SC poll since early December. According to the poll, 36% of respondents remained undecided.

    Obama 27
    Clinton 20
    Edwards 17

36% of respondents remained undecided???? NOW???

If Hillary couldn' take care of her husband's needs, what makes her think she can satisfy the general American public?

You know I am so sick of hearing trash talk about the Clinton's. When I heard Hillary was running for president I was excited! But... I also liked Obama. That said after further research I found things I didn't like about Obama. Plus as some of the ealier blogs have stated he is a liar! That right if you do your research he has lied about so much and he isn't even in the White house yet. Not just about his religon but about his issues. Wake up America Hillary for President!!!! As far as Bill goes expose Obama like they did you!!! (Ha, Ha)
