As ususal, your commentary is another example of the biased media coverage of the campaign. If you believe that the public is "too dumb" when it comes to the Clintons, then you must be doubly aware that we are not "too dumb" when it comes to your partisan coverage. The public is well aware that the majority of media outlets from "Hardball with Chris Matthews", CNN, NBC, CBS and ABC are pushing the "Obama" agenda. Those of us, and there are many if not most are well aware the covert subtefuge being perpetuated by the media as well as the Obama camp. Why don't you start reporting on the real "Obama" and bring him off the pedastal you're all so fast to place him on. As Obama stated yesterday, "those who are voting for him will not vote for Hillary, however, her supporters will vote for him". Here's a newsflash... If he's the candidate, as an independent vote, I'm voting for McCain.

THEN YOU BETTER PRAY HE DOES NOT HIRE A DAN QUAIL TYPE OF VP AT HIS AGE OR DAN QUAIL WOULD BE RUNNING THIS COUNTRY AND THAT'S SCARRIER THAN HUSSAIN IN THE WH. THE GOP IS NOT KNOWN FOR THE BEST CHOICES IN THE VP DEPT, AS IT KEEPS THEM IN OFFICE, AND ALIVE, CAUSE NO ONE, AND I MEAN NO ONE, WANTS A DAN QUAIL AT THE TOP!

I can not understand why anyone in the United Sates would want this Dysfunctional Family the Clintons back in the White House. You have an abusive man, an enabling wife and young woman who's undoubtedly been traumatized by it all. Hillary is a woman who did nothing for woman rights except trample them. Bubba is a liar and adulterer what else can be said. No Bubba or Bobby Sue send them home, 261 earmarks please she is not Presidential.

The Bill and Hillary show is disgraceful. Now I realize what the Republicans gave been so infuriated about . Ironically as they fragment the Democrats, their nominatioin would unify the Republicans. Will the democratic primary voter figure this out in time are will they blow another chance at the White House.
Obama is the only logical chioce for 2008.

Here we go. Another pro-Obama, anti-Clinton article. Get over yourselves, Newsweek - and MSNBC for that matter. This is politics !

You do not invoke Reagan or the Republican party as the party of idea the last 10-15 years DURING A DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY !!! (As I recall, it was Senator Edwards who attack Senator Obama first on his Reagan comment.) You do not attack Senator Clinton during a debate with a Wal-Mart jab and not expect to get gut punched in return with the Rezko roundhouse. Senator Obama is not running against Alan Keyes here, people. He expected to be coronated not only as the Democratic nominee, but as President if he had won the NH primary. That didn't happen. This also shows how uneducated, untested and unready Senator Obama and his campaign is in this election, if he thinks he can just talk his way into the Oval Office.

    • Posted By: jwhite1202 @ 01/24/2008 2:59:10 PM

      Mscarmack,

I'm not so sure about this article being a pro-Obama article. I would not have advised Obama to invoke Reagan, and I have no problem with him being taken to the woodshed on that one. But the untruths, the half-truths, and flat out BS that the Clintons are spouting these days is a different story. If Clinton wants to unite the democratic party, stay out the mud, and stick with the issues.

This is true - HRC will ensure a republican win in Nov. if nominated - I could never cast my vote for her - who will Billery blame then if she looses in the general election? Oh, I forgot, the vast right-wing conspiracy.

  • Posted By: Demo in AZ @ 01/24/2008 3:24:37 PM

You know what, if Billary's dirty tactics work and she gets the Demo nomination, I will, for the first time, vote Republican. I am stunned that I even uttered the word...Republican. This is pretty strong stuff and Billary needs to know how much they are offending lifelong Demos.

I just wanted to elaborate on one point that I made in my previous comment. In Iowa, all of the Democrats were "studied" carefully for a year! The people in Iowa - who, again, are 98% WHITE - chose Barack Obama overwhelmingly! 39% for Obama to 30% for Edwards and 29% for Hillary. And he wo many white votes in NH and Nevada. So this latest "Clintonian" tactic of trying to say Obama is some type of "Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton" candidate who only appeals to African-Americans is just absurd! "Clintonian" has relaced "Nixonian" as the term to describe a sleazy campaign. This Clintonian lie just won't fly!! REMEMBER IOWA!!

Hillary has pulled the so-called negative radio ad that is referred to in this article. Has Obama pulled his negative ad as of yet?

  • Posted By: H20shed65 @ 01/24/2008 3:04:05 PM

As a dedicated Democrat who has spent the last 7 years watching the Republicans outmaneuver my party, I will glady vote for the Democratic nominee gladly, whether that be Clinton, Obama or Edwards. I am leaning toward Clinton because I wateched the Clinton(s) outmaneuver and outflank the Republicans at virtually every turn throughout the nineties. I am deeply concerned that should we nominate Senator Obama, he will be unable to withstand what we all know is a formidable Republican attack machine. I don't agree with everything the Clintons have said and done throughout this nasty primary, but I have little doubt that they can easily defeat any Republican nominee this fall. Call me cynical, but I want to win this fall badly. A Republican victory this fall would likely lead to at least 4 more years of Bush Lite; a proposition that terrifies me.

    • Posted By: Mr. Ceroy @ 01/24/2008 3:25:57 PM

Listen, we are a much better country than you give us credit. Fear is not the solution here. I believe any Democrat will beat the Republicans this fall. But it will take something greater than slick-politics-as-usual to change the trajectory of our failed foreign policy and standing in the world. After Clinton's vote for the war, which was poor judgment at best, and then her miscalculated vote to name the Iranian Guard as a terrorist group, I have absolutely no confidence that she would do anything to get us out of this rut of a mess that our country and fighting men and women have been in for far too long. People wake up... We need honest people in the White House -- people in the White House who are there to carry out the will of the American people -- not their personal ambitions and agendas.

      • Posted By: billcanton @ 01/24/2008 3:34:35 PM

You honestly think Hillary of all people can win against a Republican? Refer to the article, it is describing you!

  • Posted By: RodBickles @ 01/24/2008 3:06:02 PM

Mr. Alter: I suggest that you reread Obama's original statement and Hillary's response. Obama mentions Reagan and then praises the Republicans of the last 10-15 years. Reagan left office19 years ago. Now look at Hillary's statement about it. She doesn't mention Reagan either, and there is no reason to believe she refers to him. It's just that, at this point in the debate Obama starts defending his Reagan statements. He's smart. He knows he can't defend his statements about Republicans of the last 10-15 years (you know: Newt, Cheney, DeLay, W, Larry Craig).
So, should we all vote for Obama because he can fool even smart people like you?

    • Posted By: billcanton @ 01/24/2008 3:33:13 PM

Some of you just cannot see the forest through the trees. Wake up and vote Obama!

  • Posted By: paynepl @ 01/24/2008 3:30:21 PM

I voted for Bill Clinton twice and yet It's hard for me to fathom how the Clinton's can even show their faces in public, let alone run again for the Presidency. While I did not agree with the impeachment proceedings and thought that they were politically motivated, the fact remains, Bill Clinton lied under oath, cheated on his wife in the oval office, and helped to ensure that the Republicans regained the White House. Now it appears that if they do not win the election, they are intent on destroying the democratic party altogether. I for one am not looking forward to another 4 years of hearing about Whitewater, Travel Gate, the Rose Law Firms dealings, Cocaine deals in Arkansas, Bill Clinton's Rape accusers, and Monica. If Barak doesn't get the nomination I very well may vote republican.

  • Posted By: kjb79 @ 01/24/2008 1:32:37 PM

The only reason Obama made that statement about Reagan was because he didn't want to give any credit to Bill Clinton. He's not speaking the truth. That's why they're calling him out and it's about time someone did.

So now we're not only racists for voting for Hillary, but we're idiots too. Alter, you got a lot of nerve. Will the press stop at nothing? NEWSFLASH it always seems like the Clintons are distorting Obama's position, because HE NEVER STATES IT HIMSELF. You never challenge him. You're the guilty ones if that man gets into the White House and makes an ass of himself.

    • Posted By: lamm01 @ 01/24/2008 3:27:00 PM

You are so right..... However as we are in a biased and partisan media age, your comments and insightful remarks will never be fully appreciated.

  • Posted By: Monetfan @ 01/24/2008 3:20:15 PM

I tried to post a few minutes ago and it hasn't appeared so I will try again! I 'll be brief! I agree 100% with your article, Mr. Alter. I think these "Clintonian" tactics of distortion will not work. The worst in my opinion is this latest attempt to try and put Obama in a`"box" as the marginalized "Black candidate." This is absurd! Obama won Iowa by ten points over Hillary - the largest margin of victory in any contest to date. And Iowa is 98% WHITE! To try and say that if Obama wins in South Carolina that he has appeal only to African-American voters is ludicrous. The question should be why did the Clintons' lose so many of THEIR Black constituency voters? I am a white woman who proudly supports Obama. As a feminist I could never support Hillary who is where she is solely because of who her husband is. And I could never support anyone who has run such a sleazy campaign. I don't want Bill Clinton to have a third term, being all-powerful, but totally unaccountable. The Clintons are proving that they will say anything to try and get this nomination. I want the Democrats to win - Hillary, with negatives approaching 50%, cannot win. We need to nominate a uniter and healer - not a polarizer. We need to nominate Barack Obama!

Why Hilary the Goldwater girl had her law school memoir sealed?

PEOPLE, NO MATTER WHERE YOU FROM OR WHICH ALLEGIANCE YOU HAVE, WE SHOULD ASK FOR HER LAW SCHOOL MEMOIR TO BE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC SO WE CAN BETTER TRACK HER PAST. BECAUSE, BACK THEN, SHE WAS A FIERCE OPPONENT OF THE CIVIL RIGHT MOVEMENT AND A STRONG SEGREGATIONNIST.
    HILARY! IT'S ALL AGAINST CHANGE

    • Posted By: Taratrue @ 01/24/2008 1:38:28 PM

This is a typical RACE BATING RESPONSE. Hillary was 17 years old when she was a goldwater girl. 43 years ago. You are a liar and sick.

      • Posted By: BHNV @ 01/24/2008 2:02:54 PM

Uhm, actually, no. The year after she claims to have had a "transformational" moment listening to MLK with a church group, (1963) she was part of the Goldwater campaign for president as a Goldwater Girl. Goldwater opposed equal rights as a matter of policy. He was a declared segregationist - seperate but equal and all that tripe. Look it up.

Hey Newsweek it has been awhile since you ran a front page kiss up story about ipod iphone apple or steve jobs --- what's a matter? did apple stop buying the back page???

        • Posted By: prince AK @ 01/24/2008 3:16:16 PM

That's why it was so disenginuous for her to point out the role of LBJ in the civil rights movement! Of course it can be argued that she was merely pointing out the power of an executive vs. the power of a social leader...BUT SHE WAS STAUNCHLY AGAINST LBJ and everything the movement stood for! The Obama camp cound have easily jumped on that comment with Goldwater Girl banter, but he tried to take the high ground. Then HE gets accused of playing the race card for a comment Hillary made. How clever. How very clever.
          Rove has nothing on Hillary

      • Posted By: bauersox @ 01/24/2008 3:10:53 PM

Actually, during the Goldwater campaign, Hillary was only fifteen years old. This Duval hiney has been posting this piece of crap all over the blogs. And the apposite response to it is: what was Barack Obama doing when he was fifteen? Goldwater did not oppose equal rights as a matter of policy, and he was no segregationist. That is simply a lie. Look it up. yourself.
