Hooray for Joe Lieberman for being on the side of what's best for the US.

Vote your conscience instead of the party line and you get attacked. I believe we need more politicians like Joe and McCain. They vote what they feel is good for the country, not the party. And how do the parties treat them, like outcast.

Joe Liberman is showing his real colors , the colors of a real looser. He did not change his democratic registration not because he forgot, but because he was waiting for some of the democratic funt-runners to call him. I am glad that did NOT happen and he is now going to the other side after all he is nothing but a Bush rubber-stamp. He would have made us all look bad.

I think he feels like if he is the only child left behind in the big Washington school of Hypocracy, eventhough he knows there are still some neo-cons struglling to keep their jobs in Washington, that is why he is trying to get inside the white house by backing McCain.

If he is feeling remorse for his bad and past political decisions, I personally believe he should go to the " Lamentation wall" and repent for his disgreace.

Joe Lieberman is a politician who dares to do the right thing instead of listening to special interests or what "the party" wants. I applaud Joe Lieberman for standing up for what he believes, and probably what his constituents believe as well.

    Why do we care?

Every American Should know the reason why we flew 15000 tanks accross oceans. The Marines think that they are protecting their sisters. My neighbors, who have no idea about how the internation oil markets work, we invaded a country because of Oil. My Friends have no idea. Administration will not tell, Congress will not ask about the "Reeeeeeeeeeeaaaal Motive". I guess, Lieberman knows....of course he does.

Lieberman is on the side of Lieberman. He remained a registered Democrat because he knew the odds favored the Democrats gaining power in 2008 and he had been promised a committee chair. He doesn't caucus with the Democrats. He uses them while he plays both sides of the Hill, working with whoever offers him the best deal. Its all about what they'll do for him. It's not independence--it's politics as usual. And if McCain offers him the VP spot in exchange for his switch to the GOP, he'll do so without missing a heartbeat or a snicker.

Joe Lieberman finds himself alone and without allies not because he is principled man but rather because he is dishonest. He claims he is a Democrat yet votes and supports Republicans, where I come from that is called conniving and duplicitous. He reminds me of the husband who after caught cheating on his wife asks for her forgiveness and understanding, he deserves neither. Joe Lieberman is getting what he deserves, distrust of his former colleagues and suspicion from his new ones, and I have no sympathy for his predicament.

LIEBERMAN IS NOT AN ASSET TO MCCAIN OR ANY ONE ELSE. HE IS NOTHING IN POLITICS AS FAR AS BOTH DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS ARE CONCERNED. MOST AMERICANS ARE AGAINST THE IRAQ WAR SO MCCAIN IS GOING TO FLOP ON HIS FACE OVER THAT. THE RICH MAN'S WAR IS TOO COSTLY FOR THE AMERICANS.........IT COST TOO MUCH AMERICAN BLOOD.

I can understand loyalty to a friend, and support for a position on Iraq, but Iraq is not the biggest issue the next president will face. Iraq was a mistkae in the first place, the aftermath was botched; but, eventually, Iraq will go away. The economy, the environment, Roe v. Wade, equal rights for ALL Americans (gay and straight) are all much greater, core, quality-of-life issues. Apparently, Mr. Leiberman can;t see beyond the Middle East to recognize that the assault on freedom, the constitution -- our very way of life -- comes not from a fanatical band of Islamofacists, but from a fanatical band of religious conservatives in this country. We are being subverted from within by those who would insist we all live by THEIR moral compass. That's not freedom, folks, it's repression and a facism all its own.

Joe Lieberman is a voice of reason. His views represent a large majority of people who have traditionally been affiliated with one of the major political parties. There should be no litmus test, no one way to view issues, no blanket support for one party or candidate. Senator Lieberman's statements represent the views of a mature leader. Just think how it would be if all candidates were trying to bring people together like Joe?

congrats, jsrider- you just posted perhaps the dumbest thing I've read all week (no small feat- you had plenty of competition).

  • Posted By: markus1976 @ 01/24/2008 5:04:36 PM

I respect his independent stance. I hope he understands that the reason so many Democrats have broken with him is because of his position on a VERY important issue- Iraq. How you can support the war and maintain a place in a party that so overwhelmingly is against the war is beyond me.
This is NOT a minor difference...

Lieberman isn't on the side of the Democrats, isn't on the side of the Republicans, isn't on the side of America ... Lieberman is loyal to only one thing ... Israel.

"Well, I never want to say never. But I hope that I'm never in a position where I feel so frustrated and marginalized in the Democratic Party, particularly on foreign policy, that I feel forced to leave the party. I hope that never happens."

I can't think of a better reason to give the Democrats a sufficient majority in Congress so we can kick this ______ back to CT he has Reid (who is no brain surgeon to start with) by the nose and he knows it.

And when did preemptive war become part of any progressive democrat foreign policy?

the source of this insane partianship is the Republicans and Bush but Lieberman is too blind by his own ambitions and "hurt feelings" to see this.
