The Romney Whisper - Was He Miked for Debate?

In yesterday''s MSNBC Florida debates, when Romney is asked a question about Ronald Reagan - "will you do for social security what Ronald Reagan did in 1983"- you can hear a voice whisper "he raised taxes" and then Romney says "I''m not going to raise taxes, what I''m going to do ..."

This is spreading across the internet, click the YouTube link to hear the exchange. I heard this too, and thought what was that and figured it was John or someone else, But why would they help Romney. Russert is known for these types of questions, and it would make sense to see if Romney knew what his hero really did on Social Security. My guess is a frequency picked up on the signal going to Mitt''s miked ear piece.

    Anyway, see for yourselves...

Let's set the record straight. The problem with the Fair Tax not getting its due attention, is the fact the mainstream news media is just plain ignorant to its understanding. The aforementioned article referred to it as a flat tax. It's not a flat tax. It's a consumption tax, a voluntary tax, a fair tax, whatever you want to call it. What's more, the pundits want you to believe that it will result in a net tax increase. One of Obama's commercials states that he will take on Corporate America and take away tax incentives due to them moving jobs overseas. What an idiot! I would think an educated man like Obama surely took some economics 101 in college. The reason they took the jobs overseas was because of the taxes, dummy! Take away the corporate tax burden and listen for that giant sucking sound from all the other countries as corporate america becomes corporate america again. At the same time, watch the prices of goods and services fall like a hot rock equivalent to the increase in the consumption tax. The book Fair Tax is about a 45 minute read. It's even a little funny. Say GOODBYE to the IRS and keep 100% of your paycheck!

LOL. While Ron Paul does make a lot of interesting points I can't help but laugh because there seems to be a 3 second pause on catching up on what's being addressed at the time in the debate. You have to admit he does look in somewhat dumbfounded when caught off guard with a question. But you have to admit that he seems to be irritated and disagree with EVERYTHING that his fellow Republicans opponents all unanimously agree on. Whether he's right or wrong, he by no means has the charisma in getting his message across. Loosen up Ron Paul. Quit looking and sounding so mean-spirited.. We still like ya.

This was the most boring debate in this very long primary system. Both the candidates and the panel exuded the epitome of empty-headiness. The public should demand more from each. Although I???m by nature a traditional Republican (not the kind who has ruled these past 7 years), the democratic field seems more tempting each day, regardless of whether it is Hillary, Obama, or Edwards.

"Ron Paul asked McCain if he'd support some obscure financial-policy group that advises the White House"?! Maybe the author should have done some investigating before publicly displaying such blatant ignorance. The purpose of the President's Working Group on Financial Markets is to maintain orderly markets--a euphemism for intervening to perpetuate bubbles. It was clear that McCain had no idea as to the purpose of this group either, which puts him in good company with the author.

Brian Williams and Tim Russert should be fired for unethical behavior. How can there be a fair debate when the candidates don't receive anything near an equal amount of questions and speaking time? Utterly shameless.

Anyone who watched the debate last night should admit that Ron Paul was blatantly ignored. Fine, he isn't a front runner, but this is a DEBATE -- where all candidates should have equal time to speak about issues. I watch a debate for that reason only, not to watch Romney receive multiple questions in a row and spit out predetermined reponses. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

If this were indeed a fair source then Ron Paul and the others would have a link to their name above. America, please realize that the Decision '08 is already being made without us. Ron Paul speaks from his heart, is an educated doctor, an established author of economics, and only wants the best for you and me. Look at the polls that aren't broadcasted, research his knowledge of the economy, or simply goodle his name and look how much support he has. Numbers don't like, but mainstream media does.

Anyone who watched the debate last night should be able to admit that Ron Paul was blatantly ignored. I watched the debate to see all candidates DEBATE, not to only watch Romney receive repetitive questions with predetermined responses. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How much more do the American people need to see to realize that the Decision '08 is being made for us through mainstream media?

I'd like to think we are becoming brighter in our times but we are letting the media ignore great presidential candidates while glamorizing others, like McCain, who cannot even answer a question honestly. Ron Paul is the only one who is honest and truly educated about America's main concerns. You can hear it in his voice, you can see it in the polls that aren't broadcasted, and you can feel it when he speaks.

The Dems get criticized for slinging mud at each other. The GOP gets disdain for putting on a "boring performance". What DOES the media want other than to complain and find fault?

AMERICANS! Use your brains people! Sift through the media BS. They are only looking for their OWN ratings through sensationalist reporting and commentary. Read OBJECTIVELY about the issues, consider the character, the records, and the positions of each candidate, and VOTE.

Do all of us have to be sleep being led to the slaughter?

why is there a link associated with all the candidates but Ron Paul? Why don't you mention how McCain answered Ron Paul's question? Thats right, this is a biased media network!

When did a debate have to mirror a daily soap opera in order to become interesting? I don't care how Hillary feels about Obama or Huckabee about Romney any more than I care about Brittany's feelings toward K-Fed. I think it's immature of candidates to "mud-sling" in order to gain popularity. It's a juvenile, school yard tactic that is not tolerated in the work place, so why do we tolerate it from presidential hopefuls. I have posted comments to other stories that I think the debating process is a waste of time and air space. It only gives the candidates the opportunity to back pedal on previous stands and preen for the crowd. If you want to be elected, then make a stand on the issues and stay there. It is up to the American public to become informed on the issues and where the cadidates stand. A vote should not be decided by who is getting the most press time.
Speaking of the press, it turns my stomach to see how reporters are handling the 2008 election (among other news stories). Reporting a story means reiterating the facts. That's it!! When personal commentary or bias enters a news story, it is no longer reporting - it's called an "editorial". Shame on the media for using "reporting" as an outlet to vent their personal bias towards canditates and their parties. Unless you title your article as an edititorial, keep you personal opinions to yourself. Just give me the facts and let me decide, like the responsible voters I am, which candidate for whom I will vote. Inform us - don't try to sway us.

Moderators Brian Williams and Tim Russert did try to shake things up as they tried to bait the candidates into "attack" mode. Fortunately the candidates did not fall for it and stuck with the issues so we could actually learn something instead of stooping to the pointless tabloid style drama we saw at the Democrats debate. While the news media complains ad nauseum about lack of substance they spend much of their air time highlighting nonsense and whipping idle comments into a frenzy - creating drama over nothing until it becomes something.. This is a presidential election not E Hollywood True story. I agree with Forkmeister as well, the media in general takes every oportunity to ignore Romney despite the facts of his campaign successes.

Please stop portraying the Clinton's as mean and unfair to Obama. This is an election campaign for heavens sake. If Obama can't stand these remarks , how will he hold up to the Republican Swift Boating that is sure to follow, if he gets the Democratic nod? Be Real.

Why do you guys (the media) ignore Ron Paul? is it because he has a painful or embarassing knack for telling the Truth? This is America , show some equal time.

  • Posted By: jvee @ 01/25/2008 11:53:07 AM

Obviously all the Republican candidates agreed to be phony in their debate last night and agreed to attack Hillary rather then answer their questions at this Love fest.

Tell Tucker Carlson to back off from his obvious hatred for the Clintons and quit trying to make the Democratic nominating process about RACE. Did you hire him away from FOX?

Please Tell Tucker Carlson to back off from his obvious hatred of the Clintons as he makes obvious in his show everyday. Did you used to work at FOX?

Imagine that...a debate that focuses on the issues rather than childish personal attacks. When I tune in to watch the debates I'm not watching to be entertained. I watch the debates to aid me in making a decision. Romney was the clear winner last night. He is able to speak to all the issues and speak intelligently and succinctly. After Romney takes Florida I hope the media will start emphasizing what really matters....delegates. Romney will have 57 delegates to add to the 66 he has already won in other states. McCain only has 38 at this point. It's all about delegates!

I've been watching the post coverage of the debate on MSNBC and have not heard anyone say a word about Ron Paul. I know this media blackout isn't news but it gets creepier every day. Even if you are for another candidate, you should be seriously concerned about the media's misuse of its power. Disagree with Paul if you like - thats fine - but to blackout coverage on him or censor his message or anyone's message is wrong. America should decide whether they like Paul or not. Not the media.
