I voted for Bill both times he ran for office but I have had a strong dislike for Hillary for the very beginning. I do not want to vote for her but I cannot vote for Republican. Let's face facts, Bill is not the typical spouse-he is a former president and his words carry a weight that no other spouse can match. He needs to tone down his attacks. What I am afraid will happen if Hillary is nominated,we will have to rehash all the Clinton years and the Repbulicans will win. I do not think I can stand four more years of what will be the Bush policies. I believe that Obama is the only way the Dems can win the White House..

Hillary Clinton will make a strong president. If you look at her positions they are not entirely different or incompatible with Obama's. All of this nonsense about Clinton not being able to bring the country together or work across the aisle is misogynistic crap spewed by those who are afraid of having a strong woman president. Obama plays just as nasty only he has the media to spin his rhetoric. I am insulted when we have republicans giving us crap that they will vote for Obama, which is B.S. Obama will enact the same policies that Hillary will and once republicans look at Obama's agenda they won't vote for him in a million years. Get real people, grow up, and let's quit this hopemongering crap!

Just thinking out loud...if you're right that "Obama will enact the same policies that Hillary will" then why not nominate Obama and take Hillary's negatives out of the equation?

Just before the super delegates make their choices - all dems and indies who back Obama should agree on a date to en masse change your registration to Republican as a demonstration of how much support would be pulled away from the Democratic base (then you can swap back).

It is people like "REALISTIC" in the comments about blaming someone else for choosing Bush AGAIN when he had already screwed us with his lies and taking care of his cronies and now creating warfare. Take responsibility for who YOU put in office. For God's sake anyone with an ounce of brains can see that we need to knock out the republican party nominee no matter who wins the democratic nomination. What in the world is so bad about the Clintons that cannot be trumped trumped and trumped by the past 8 years????? WAKE UP!!!! Can we figure out our priorities. This ignorance makes me sick

    • Posted By: realistic @ 01/26/2008 12:37:12 AM

Maybe you need to wake up. If you read my comments I am saying that the last 8 years have been horrible for our country and I did NOT vote for Bush - either time. I also said that if Clinton gets the nomination we are destined to have another horrible 4 years wth another Republican because half of the Democratic party will not vote for her. We will have the Clinton's to thank because of their campaigning ways and ability to divide the party. At this point, if Hillary gets the nomination - I will not be voting in November because it will be a loss for the country no matter who gets elected. I casted my vote on January 3rd and it is to bad that the rest on the country does not get a year to hear and get to know the candidates before they vote because I can guarentee you that Obama is the only obvious choice.

    Ms. Clift,

I watch the McLaughlin Group regularly. I have to say, I am for the right candidate whether they be, white, black, woman or male. However, the Clinton's have taken this campaign to a place it can not recover from. They remind me why it was possible for Bush/Cheny to get elected. I am registered Independent, who served 13 years in the Air Force, I hold two BS degrees in business and completing my Masters. i happen to be a middle class family man with a decent income working for the U.S. DOD overseas. However, I would happily vote for McCain if the Democratic nominee is Hillary Clinton. It's not becuase she is a woman, but
becuase she and her husband do not respresnt any values or substance. The have not only just distorted facts, but they have simply lied! and lied consistently. Does anyone think for one second that anyone running in Novemeber will not make Whitewater, the Ken Starr Report, Monica Lewinski, That fact Bill Clinton actually Impeached for perjury and disbarred an issue. Nor the rashh of misdeed and sucidies with whitewater. Sen. Obama and sen Edwards have tried to have a healthy debate and I thought what happened in even in New Hampshire showed how people could move forward, imagine Sen Obama had 37 - 38% of the support. That was great news not a loss like it has spun and then some tried to turn into racial or gender issue. THE CLINTONS MADE IT RACIAL AND GENDER based, then blamed him. That's disgusting! Unfortunately this cannot be repaired. If this is the direction of the Democratic party, keep it. There are other parties for ethic citizens to affiliate with. I don't have a problem voting replublican either. After all, whats the difference bewteen Hillary and the administration now. She voted and supported 90% of the legistation. Talking about records, all the choices that matter to voters she has gotten wrong. yet, the media does not talk about her record, becuase according to Bill, they gave Obama a free pass. I'm not a Replublican, but if we are going to keep doing this course we are, I'd rahter stay with the party that got us here than hand Bill and Hillary all the Executive priviliages that have been hijacked. The Dem's found found a sure fire way to loose. I did not leave the principles of the democratic party Bill and Hillary kicked us out. By they way I just happen to be black and quite a few of us feel this way.

To all of those who argue that if Obama can't handle it (and may I say, I think he is handling it) then he won't survive in November - the Clinton's definitely won't survive in November - so why handicap the man who is drawing so much new blood to the base? Do you think you're going to keep them after you shaft him? Think again - you might think you can take and take and treat people anyway you please and they will give all to you - but not so anymore.

I'm a 53 year old white, female Republican that will cross the isle and vote for Obama if given the opportunity. I'll vote in the primary for him, and I pray I have an opportunity to vote in the general election for him. If he does not represent the Democrats for president in the general election, then I will vote Republican no matter how bad the choice. Anything is better than the divisive environment of the Clinton era.

    • Posted By: Servant @ 01/25/2008 11:38:40 PM

I sure hope some Democrats listen to you.

      • Posted By: awendnik @ 01/26/2008 12:30:20 AM

I've been a registered democrat for 28 years and I won't vote for Hillary, even if it means voting Republican for the first time. If McCain wins the nomination, I'll even send him money to beat Hillary. Do not underestimate the anti-Hillary sentiment.

  • Posted By: Tsuku @ 01/26/2008 12:21:58 AM

Clinton's tactics make me sick. I was considering a vote for her but have lost all respect. Is this what is meant by taking the gloves off. WSell, Hillary, this is one vote that is going to Obama. It seems you and Bill will do anything to win. What a shame you are so divisive.

    • Posted By: realistic @ 01/26/2008 12:29:17 AM

It is refreshing to know that there are some smart people out there that see through the political tactics being used by the Clinton's. If the country wants change, why vote for a former President and First Lady who are proving that they are exactly what Washington has been for years? It is time for something new! OBAMA! - I don't care that people say he doesn't have enough experience. He is a smart man, he will surround himself with smart people and will do a great job. Plus, Hillary only has experience being a wife to a politician. One that has been in Washington to long.

I don't know much about political staff, but, all this political race is driving me crazy. All this childish, craying and nasty comments about who is the best, and who will do the best job in the white house for this country ,just look around ,ya'll see who is been in the white house already, she knows how it is and what needs to be done, she's got more experience and knows what is around the country, stop paying attention to new guys that you don't know their even existed until they see the chance to come out,to me Hillary Clinton is the best to be,I believe she will do what other presidents couln't do,she is a strong woman , and she knows how to defend herself without nobody elses help, she is doing a great job by defending herself ot the SHIP shots the supostly goo president want to be is throwing to her.that's really desperation of his part, I don't believe he'll be a good president, for a couple of reasons: look at his roots, his name sounds to me more like Osama in stead of obama ,get it? all of them act like they own this country, and its going to be worse if he gets to be a president. I LOVE THIS COUNTRY and I would hate to see this country change for the worse, but ,I hope ya'll make the right decision,as for me Hillary Clinton is the best.

She might know how to land a cheap shot, but so do the Reps, and Clinton comes with plenty of baggage. I have no doubt in my mind that the Reps have been digging dirt on the Clintons that they will be surprised to be hit with. That will serve to reinforce divisions created in the democratic party for how they hatcheted Obama. People will polarize against the Clintons to stop the Bush-Clinton tag team pattern. Chants of ABC - Anything But Clinton, will reverberate around the country. The Democratic party will be left kicking themslevs over how they stuffed up again.

  • Posted By: Tsuku @ 01/26/2008 12:25:41 AM

    Hillary,
You have lost my respect. By playing the race card, or just slipping it in, it shows you Clinton's will do anything to win. Even fracture the party. Others see it this way and maybe you gained some momentum for the moment but your day will come. You are too divisive to lead.

  • Posted By: realistic @ 01/26/2008 12:10:10 AM

Besides the fact that Obama will win the nomination, Clinton's dirty political tactics will not work in the fall because half of the democratic party is fed up with her AND her husband and would rather vote Republican then for her. If she does manage to fight her way into the nomination with her lies, I guess we will have another fun 4 years with a Republican which sure did the country good these last 8 years. And we will all have the Clinton's to thank.
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman." If he can lie through his teeth like that, why in the hell are we believing a word that comes out of his dirty mouth now? Come on America, open your eyes! It was not that long ago that the country was trying to impeach this man. WAKE UP!

You can hear the cynicism and spite Eleanor Clift is infusing into this "opinion" piece. Naturally, when the title of the piece has the phrase cheap shot in it, we all know that the author depises the person she's describing who employs such tactics. When did Newsweek turn into the Obama bandwagon campaign cruiser? We all know politics is a tough sport, and if Obama can't handle the heat from Hillary, well he sure as hell won't make it come November. As usual, Clift snidely implies that the Clintons were the ones playing the race card and every tactic they've used has been dirty and, well, cheap. How come, Eleanor, you never mention that Barack Obama's campaign was the one who printed 4 pages of why the Clintons are racist and distributed it to people in SC as a way of smearing the Clintons? How come you don't mention that Obama lied through his teeth at the debate when he refuted his original position on single payer health care? How come you and Jonathan Altar seem intent on doing one thing...that is conveying your poorly disguised hatred and disgust of the Clintons to the world? I've been sickened by the media and press bias against Clinton and towards Obama. I say shame on you Eleanor. You should know better than to play favorites when you know there's so much at stake. Bill Clinton was right when he said, "Shame on you."

Rezko co-defendant donated to Clinton supporter Rendell
Tony Rezko ... popped up prominently into the national political discussion only this week when during a heated exchange in a South Carolina Democratic debate Hillary Clinton accused Barack Obama of having been lawyer for the "slum landlord" Rezko. ...

But big as the country is, its politics is also a small world. So when former Philadelphia mayor and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell endorsed Clinton earlier this week, some folks wondered if Rezko had helped Rendell. Sure enough, the New York Times found that when Rendell was also head of the Democratic National Committee in 2000, Rezko delivered $15,000 to the national party.

Although there is no known direct Rezko donation to Rendell, a review of the governor''s campaign finance reports by The Times'' intrepid campaign finance expert Dan Morain does reveal a definite connection. Back in September of 2005 Rendell took $1,000 from Ali D. Ata of Lemont, Ill.

Now who, you might ask, is Ali D. Ata? He turns out to be a Rezko co-defendant in one of the federal indictments pending in Chicago. The government alleges that in February 2004, Ata, then executive director of the Illinois Finance Authority, signed a letter that helped Rezko fraudulently obtain a multi-million dollar loan. ...

Go Obama we do not need Monica Lewinsky's boyfriends wife running this country she couldn't even run her own house. Being married to someone does not give you the ability to do the same job her husband did. How much could she have learned by being married to slick willy anyway he wanted nothing to do with her until she got into politics and now he can see himself running the country again.

    • Posted By: RJ Shearer @ 01/26/2008 12:08:05 AM

Dear wheels460: Spoken like a true high minded, hope inspired, Obamaite. Give me a break. You Obama freaks are as nasty and divisive as I have ever seen. One has to wonder how a candidate who purports to preach hope can inspire so much hate towards others.

OK, Obama admits he made a mistake by buying property from Rezko and inhaling marijuana. Have you ever heard the Clintons admit that they made any mistakes with White Water, perjury about having sex with Monica, the nafta treaty that Bill pushed through in 1993 that has cost us so many jobs, the illegal campaign contributions by hsu, Hillary's failed attempt at national health care in the ninties. At least Obama is man enough to admit he inhaled unlike the Clintons who cover up their mistakes with lies.

More Clinton bashing in this article. Actually, Obama has done a little mudslinging of his own, and I guess all the folderal is okay so long as everybody can kiss and make up when the nomination is decided. However, I feel this has been a media-driven match up designed by the MSM to stir up the natives. The loser...Edwards. He is just not very interesting to editors...he's too typical and his message is truly Democratic. Too bad he didn't stand a chance. I'm going to vote for him anyway because I like his anti-corporate stand.

  • Posted By: ericrsiny @ 01/25/2008 11:39:18 PM

What I missed in the story (and it may be there) is that Rezko served as a member of Obama's US Senate campaign in 2002. This was after he was publicly investigated. Moreover, Obama states that he took money from Resko, bought property from Rezko, and was friends with Rezko all and that he did not know that Rezko was under investigation. Since Rezko and the investigation was on the news and in the news how could this be? Did Obama not read or listen to the news at all for five years before running for US Senate?

Heard at the Clinton breakfast table:

Hillary: Gadzooks! That darn Drudge and his photo of us with Rezko makes me look like a hypocrite.

And I already made my excuse on this Rezko mess and the press isn't buying it.

    Bill: Whaddidusay hun?

Hillary: I told them that I did not know who Rezko is.

Bill: Well, you could tell them now it depends what the meaning of "is" is.

    He!he!he!

    Worked for me.
