The democrats will win the election in November. There is no way anybody in their right mind can vote
republican again after these last 8 years. McCain, Romney etc all sounded exactly like Bush the other night.
Who is going to vote for a third term of Bush - fear, war, excessive spending, and no support for education,
    environment or the elderly.

All I keep hearing is that the negative attacks Bill has launched is working. The polls say so, so it must be true right? I have serious doubts about that proclaimation by the press. I have probably read almost every message board on every major news outlet and I get a different sense among the voting public. Most seem to be highly critical of Billary campaign tactics to the point that they are willing to vote republican or not at all if they (yes I mean they) gets the Democratic nomination. Do media read or give credit the their readers? My personal feeling is the mainstream media is behind the fuel to Bill's flame. Remember this is the same press who ducked for cover most of Bush's 2 terms in office. The point is this country is in trouble and we need to look at the candicate whether Democratic or Republican who is going to actually care about the ecomony, the war and health care, the three things that is impacting the average american's way of life. If its all about winning, which its seems to be for the Cllintons then we are in trouble as a country. And remember its only January!

POOR EXAMPLE OF SOMEONE WHO FALSEY CLAIMS TO UNITE ALL PEOPLE

Obama's spiritual adviser, J Wright gave Trumpeter Award to a man it said "truly epitomized greatness. Louis Farrakhan. maybe for Wright and some others, Farrakhan "epitomized greatness." For Americans, Farrakhan epitomizes racism, particularly in the form of anti-Semitism. Over the years, he has compiled an awesome record of offensive statements, even denigrating the Holocaust by falsely attributing it to Jewish cooperation with Hitler "They helped him get the Third Reich on the road." His history is a rancid stew of lies. Any praise of Farrakhan heightens the prestige of the leader of the Nation of Islam. His anti-Semitism and particularly his false insistence that Jews have played an inordinate role in victimizing African Americans.
Farrakhan's dream has vilified whites and singled out Jews to blame for crimes large and small, either committed by others as well or not at all. (A dominant role in the slave trade, for instance.) He has talked of Jewish conspiracies to set a media line for the whole nation. He has reviled Jews in a manner that brings Hitler to mind. And yet Wright heaped praise on Farrakhan. According to Trumpet, he applauded his "depth of analysis when it comes to the racial ills of this nation." He praised "his integrity and honesty." He called him "an unforgettable force, a catalyst for change and a religious leader who is sincere about his faith and his purpose." These are the words of a man who prayed with Obama just before the Illinois senator announced his run for the presidency. Will he pray with him just before his inaugural?
The New York Times recently reported on Obama's penchant while serving in the Illinois legislature for merely voting "present" when faced with some tough issues. Farrakhan, in a strictly political sense, may be a tough issue for him. This time, though, "present" will not do.

Here is what Barack Obama has said about Farrakhan: "I decry racism and anti-Semitism in every form and strongly condemn the anti-Semitic statements made by Minister Farrakhan, I assume that Trumpet Magazine made its own decision to honor Farrakhan based on his efforts to rehabilitate ex-offenders, but it is not a decision with which I agree." Why didn't josh62 report what Obama said? Is that fair?

OBAMA DID WAY MORE THEN JUST 5 HOURS OF WORK FOR REZKO READ BELOW:

The Chicago Tribune: "Beyond the heated sound bites is a story of a more complex relationship that long boosted Obama's political fortunes but now could prove a campaign liability. For years after Rezko befriended Obama in the early 1990s, he helped bankroll the politician's campaigns. Then, after Obama's election to the U.S. Senate, Rezko engaged him in private financial deals to improve their adjoining South Side properties. Those arrangements became a source of lingering controversy after the Tribune first reported them in November 2006.
Now Rezko's federal corruption trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 25. As Obama stumps for votes, coverage of the high-profile proceedings could bring fresh, unwelcome reminders for Obama of Rezko's influence in the same Illinois political world that propelled the senator to a serious run at the presidency."

She voted for the war and can't admit it was a mistake. She could not think of any personal weaknesses during the debate. Such arrogance. Sounds a lot like Bush to me. I don't live in the South. I am a woman. I am 52 years old. I am white. I hope this all lasts long enough for my vote to count up here in Washington State. Some day it would be nice to have a woman for president, but not if the only way she can get there is by her husband dragging her over the finish line---how is that a positive landmark for women? My vote will go to Barack Obama.

The Clinton tactics didn't work with this Clinton loyalist of the past. I find it cynical and transparent. I voted for Bill Clinton and stood by him during the Lewinski saga. No more. I've voted for my last Clinton. I am tired of their dysfunction and lack of character. Go Obama!

Obama also knows how to land the cheap shot, as he showed during the same debate that you watched when he brought up Clinton's stint on the Wal-Mart board of directors. Why do you think this back-and-forth between Senators Clinton and Obama will damage the ticket in November? It's about time somebody looked at Obama critically. For most people, inspiration simply is not enough. We need a candidate's practical proposals. Certainly, all the candidates need to be well-scrutinized before November's ticket is locked up. Since you participate in conflict on a weekly basis with McLaughlin, I'm surprised that you suddenly find conflict and even anger so unseemly.

He landed a cheap shot but opened himself up to being looked at and the media has started to do so. Look at ABCNews.com for the latest story on Obama and Rezko.

Thanks for pointing me to that. CNN has posted a video about how Rezko worked closely with community organizers -- both real and so-called -- in order to get contracts to put up housing; the clip also contains pictures of the mansion the Obamas bought with Rezko's help. Aside from the fact that Obama has returned a mere fraction of the cash he got from Rezko, the other thing we need to know is what Rezko got in return for his big bucks.

The Clintons inject race as an issue in the Democratic campaign, split the party along racial lines, lie, cheat - what does it matter to them, as long as Clintons win! Please, no more whining from those of you who excuse their egregious behavior, about Karl Rove and the big bad Republicans. They are mere babes in the woods compared to the two Arkansas grifters.

  • Posted By: Ctmom @ 01/26/2008 2:51:49 PM

Anything goes, because nothing matters to the Clintons except the Clintons. Split the party along racial lines - who cares?- as long as Hillbilly wins. And for those of you who excuse this egregious behavior- please, no more whining about Karl Rove and the nasty Republicans. They are mere babes in the woods compared to the two Arkansas grifters.

Obama tried to play fair, just as he did in his campaign for a senatorial seat from Illinois. The fact that he was sucked into such a dirty competition is telling of politics. All it is is a bunch of grown-up school kids trying to think up the worst thing to call each other. Disgusting.

Why can't Hillary talk for herself. Isn't that the point of having a Woman President. A Women President should do her own talking and not have some man that is not running for office do it for her.

Bills a cool guy. But the president need to stand on her own to feet.

  • Posted By: lifetime_democrat @ 01/26/2008 1:55:22 PM

I'm surprised that Eleanor would say that "Hillary sure knows how to land a cheap shot" when it was Obama who drew first blood with his snotty Wal-mart Corporate Lawyer comment, while at the same time being called a hypocrite by the UK Daily Telegraph "Obama called hypocrite for wife's Wal-Mart link" http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/05/13/wobama13.xml

I believe you forgot to mention that Obama was the first one to start the brawl! What did she have to do? Just take attacks and allow your opponents to step all over you? You must be kidding! What I saw in that deate is that Hillary can take a punch and give a better counter-punch.

Poor Hillary, damned if she does, damned if she doesn't! Keep on fighting, girl! We're behind you all the way!!!

Democrats should have gotten behind Clinton, instead of mounting the Hillary and the UnHillary, and then allowing them to engage in a duel with pistols, bsically.

So Obama is all lightlness and purity and Hillary is the opposite. It's absurd.

Forty percent of the electorate are independents; only 14% of the population is black.
When it comes to the election, the vast majority of Americans are going to vote for the solid-looking white guys, with experience. That's the Republicans.

They don't vote by party. They vote by feeling, and they will feel McCain and Romney are safer.

Dems should have put up Hillary Clinton as the senior Democrat with real experience, and supported her choice of a vice president, and then been supportive of her throughout. Instaed, they've committed suicide now.

You lost it. (And I wanted the Democrat to win, and no I won't be voting for Obama on any ticket anywhere.)

Excellent piece. And I agree totally. We need a strong nominee to take on the republicans. We dems cannot look week in a post 9/11 world. Hillary is a fighter, and the ONLY democrat ready to take on the republicans and take back the White House.
    Go Hill! We love you!

If Obama cant take the heat from The Clintons, what do you think would happen to him in a general election against the GOP machine ? These Clinton attacks will seem like a stroll in the park.

  • Posted By: mikekohr @ 01/26/2008 1:05:04 PM

The movement is running into the machine. The Clinton camp had to stop the run-a-way train that was the Obama campaign after the Iowa caucus. They may succeed at the expense of the entire Democratic ticket in November. With the most favorable political wind at it's back in 70 years the Democrats stand to post significant gains in Congress. But they can lose the White House yet again , and diminish their margin of victory on the national, state and local levels if this diversion, and division continues.

There was a moment, after after the Iowa Caucus results had come in, when the Democratic and Independent voting world, breathed a heavy sigh of relief as they thought "maybe a different type of politics really IS possible." Shortly thereafter, Hillary Clinton is said to have ominously observed something like: "Now the fun part of the campaign begins." Since then, the Clinton self-pity has morphed into the Clinton rage and then into the Clinton misrepresentation/lying. It would be very refreshing for a politics thinker, of Eleanor Clift's talent, to instead of gaming how the Clinton dirty tactics may or may not succeed, to take a position on whether such tactics are fair, are good for the body politic, and should or should not be punished by people who care about this country. The Clintons and their handlers know exactly what they're doing; they are deliberately trying to sink the level of discourse to "he said, she said," and that way they can force Obama to respond to their attacks instead of winning with his message of hope and change. The Clintons and those who vote for them, and missing one of the first real opportunities (probably since FDR) to revolutionize our own government. Obama would strengthen our homeland defense, take us to new heights of diplomatic accomplishment, implement national healthcare, fix our broken tax structure, and better look after those who are struffling, everywhere, and he would do it with significant Republican support. Hillary on the other hand, will only take us back to the bad old days of insincere, clipped, political trench warfare. Dems and Independents, let's cease this opportunity to move past yesterday's broken politics. And, let's look for commentators with the courage to educate the public on who is practicing destructive politics as a planned strategy.

Bill and Hillary dirty tricks squad may beat Obama, but will lose in November. With her negatives, there is no way she wins Ohio and other states crucial to a Electoral College win. That means an anti-feminist conservative super-majority in the Supreme Court for 30 to 40 years. Yikes!
