Hey, let's see who all has contributed to Hillary. Give me a break about Rezko. The tactics that the Clintons are using now have ensured that this single white over-50 southern female independent will not vote for her. Neither will I vote Republican. I would have voted for Obama, Edwards, or any other Democratic candidate. Now I will vote for the Independent that runs, guaranteed if Hillary turns out to be the Democratic nominee. The Clinton lies and obfuscation of recent weeks have pushed me over the edge.

It's sad when the media talks about these cheap tactics in such a reverential manner. I know you guys have to sell stories but come on! Praising dishonesty and win-at-all costs tactics even if it means distorting someone's record and lying to the American people? This is precisely what makes young voters cynical.

As usual, Elenor's nose is "clinton brown".

Ms. Clift states "If goody-two-shoe Democrats are squeamish, they had better get used to it. The Clinton game plan is to demolish Obama ..." With the Clinton???s relentless ambition I fear they will destroy much of the racial healing made in the last two generations. Hillary possesses nearly all the flaws of Richard Nixon with few of his virtues. I haven???t yet decided who I will vote for President. I have identified the one person I will vote against. Hillary.

She slept her way to experience?? Surely that's what all intelligent, well educated, hard working sucessful women have done. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I was intrigued by Obama, but I am unsure if he really has the "it" that many people see. Obama does have the "I am above all the petty politics" going for him, but I am starting to see that he is just like everyone else. Obama reminds me of George W. as all the conservatives loved Bush as he was a plain talking guy who you could have a beer with. Bush was true to conservatism in their eyes. Well, Obama is the liberal version of Bush. Obama seems true to his beliefs, but lacking in true substance. Clinton and McCain seem more willing to work with others, and many feel this is selling out...which it might be, or it may be that it is just practical.

Obama doesn't present himself in the same way that Bush does....I know Bush and Bush is no Obama. I was impressed with how Obama tried not to let it get this way. This all comes from the Clintons...so you have to remember - he has a responsibility to fight back. I do believe that he would rise above the politics...in almost every scenario. Sometimes - you just have to hit back...albeit reluctantly. I don't mind honest hard hitting facts - I dislike dishonesty and lies i.e Clintons.

The sad thing is the media is covering this like it's a pennant race. "Oh, look how clever this ad is...." Folks, this is so much more important than that. I don't care who you support, or what issues are most important to you, or what party you are in. These elections are a matter of life and death and that is NOT an overstatement. When I see likes of Russert, O'Reilly or probably worst of all Chris Mathews who can never talk about the issues and are obessed with gotcha questions and really do everything they can to make the news about themselves, it just sickens me.

Unfortunately, too many people have adopted this same attitude, as seen by some of the comments on this board. It matters who wins because of the issues, but it also matters how they win, because whoever wins will then have to govern and thats the important part. This can easily be seen by both the Clinton and GWB presidencies. Wheras Regan and Kennedy generally took the high road and were than able to unite the country.

Clinton won't be able to get away with fact twisting and innuendo in the big one. Obama is a lightweight and Clinton is having him for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - though I can't believe he'd be very filling. McCain or Romney will tear her a new one right off the bat and keep her and her henchmen, gun shy. It will be great to hear less of the cackling, lying opportunist who slept her way to experience.

It's all about the Clintons - America and party - be damned. Hillary and Bill may be able to 'play' their way to winning the primary, but "the big prize" in November will be lost. Funny how a month ago I felt there was no way possible the Democrats would lose in November - NOW - The Hill and Bill Show have made it become a real possibility. All about the Clintons

After the Iowa caucus Terry McCuluff breathlessly announced that Bill was going to play a larger role in the election. In fact he (Bill) was already mind gaming how to grind down Obama in order to win the nomination. The behavior of both Hillary and Bill has been ridiculous.
Why does the media now keep running stories titled ???Letting Hillary be Hillary??? and cover stories ??? I???ve finally found my voice???. Be honest Hillary is letting Bill be her and she closed her mouthing so Bill can be her voice.

Hillary Clinton reminds me more and more of both Richard Nixon and George W Bush every day -- maybe not in her policies but in her temperament and personality she's still the Republican she was growing up. Nixon lived in a world where he saw everyone attacking him: he chided the press for kicking him around, he had his enemies list and clearly lived to get even, and his top political advisers were advertising/PR men. (Is Mark Penn Haldeman, or Erlichman???) George W believed that he should inherit the presidency, and he had the arrogance of entitlement. Both attitudes carried over into foreign policy -- so it's striking that Hillary, like George W, made the point that she wouldn't sit down and talk with antagonistic leaders because evidently they didn't deserve to be engaged in a dialogue. The great irony is that, if she wins the primary, "Goldwater girl" Hillary, because of her temperament, personality, and huge negatives among the general population, will surely deliver the White House to the Republican Party.

For those who think back on the Clinton years with nostalgia, it is only because the recent disastrous Republican years were far worse. The Clinton White House was an embarrassment filled with arrogance, dissembling, greed, and cronyism. (Remember the Rodham and Marc Rich pardons???) The Clintons didn't just have enemies, they made enemies (and they thrive on having enemies), and they are doing the same right now even within the Democratic faithful. Lying and below-the-belt behavior, such as the false cheap shots against Obama in S.C., serve only to remind us of what we saw during the Clinton White House years.

I voted for Bill twice. For those people who think the rage and hurt are not real. For those who comfort themselves and pretend we must be republicans... I'm somehow not surprised that their heads so far up their a$$.

    • Posted By: danielgouldman @ 01/26/2008 11:33:18 AM

Seriously - that's such a true statement. I voted for Clinton twice too....I thought I'd be voting Democratic no matter what. Not so anymore...and I'm not just going to stay home - I'm willing to vote for McCain.

It is so obvious that the Clintons are trying to manipulate the American public...spreading lies and trying to paint Barack as some sort of disinenguous, dishonest person. The Clintons are hoping that the average American somehow forgets by February 5th...and the general election if they make it that far but I WILL NOT FORGET. If this is how they are going to run their campaign...through lies and deceit....this is how they're going to run their White House. I think we can all look back to the host of scandals that plagued the Clintons while in the White House. I don't trust a thing that President Clinton says...after all - I do know what the definition of the word "is" is. Forgetting Whitewater, Monica Lewinsky, lying to a federal grand jury etc etc....they don't play nice with others. So - we have to be cognizant about the importance of pushing through legislation that will actually make a difference. The only thing that the Republicans seem to agree upon is that they all hate Clinton. I'm so serious here. I talk to people just in off hand conversation about the candidates and Republicans say they like Obama - that MATTERS. Regardless - I don't trust the Clintons....they lack integrity and authenticity. If they don't have that - how can I count on them to do the right thing when the time comes...

Hillary will likely lose in the general. That means a conservative supermajority in the Supreme Court for a generation to come. The argument that the Clinton supporters make is that she is tough enough to fight the Republicans, but that ignores the fact that 41 percent of Americans wouldn't vote for her if she were the only person on the ballot. Her negatives are too high--and some of that distrust in her is well-warranted by past behavior.

To Sloane: I couldn't stop laughing when you typed "you "fairly detest" the Clintons". Your points are well taken and I respect your position. I don't want to get into characterization because I feel that to some degree. ALL politicians will say what they feel is necessary to win. It is a contest. Again, I don't see what makes the Clintons so different from everyone else. I honestly don't.

I can say that one main reason why I haven't been turned off by the Clinton's is this.....When Bill Clinton was President, the economy was in good shape. For that reason alone, I find comfort in supporting a candidate who is married to an ex president who governed a strong economy during his tenure. We need a STRONG president who can whip this country into shape. I personally believe that Hillary is a VERY strong dandidate to do just that. Until there is sufficient evidence to show that she would be an inept President, I will continue to support her.

For argument sake, the Clntons have said and done some things that are questionable. So have some of the other candidates (you know I have to throw that in there =-). However, the Clinton's have had proven success and for me, that outweigh the negative. For this election, I would rather focus on who I think would be the most effective and efficient candidate versus focusing on all of the negative aspects of that person. Remember, there is good and bad in all of us, Who am I or who are we to throw stones at any of the candidates when we all live in a glass house.

I feel that it would only be relevant to focus on ANY of the candidates short coming if the shortcoming questions whether they would be an efficient leader or not. If the shortcoming does not directly effect the candidates ability to run office, Why focus on it?

More importantly than who you or I support, I TRULY HOPE that we FINALLY get a president that will do what is best for this wonderful country and all of its citizens!. That is what matters most!

Hillary is highly unlikely to win, especially against McCain, but even Romney could beat her. Her negatives are too high. And should she lose, then the Supreme Court will have a conservative super-majority for generation to come. Feminists, environmentalists, and working folks BEWARE!

This is an excellent article. But I disagree with these analysts who see the Clinton strategy as usual and fair. "Billary" has attempted to redefine what is politically acceptable. When have we ever had a former President campaigning like a precinct captain for his spouse? As a former President he has advantages and perks that no other surrogate campaigner does. The press follow him wherever he goes and publish his every word. Bill Clinton has used that enormous coverage to cross the line of civility in his attacks. I don't know the exact details, but isn't he followed by Secret Service whereever he goes? And are we not as taxpayers required to pay for that expense? So aren't we even being forced as taxpayers to subsidize a campaign that many of us are against? I think his behavior on the part of a former President is just disgusting and shameless. The Republicans will use it effectively against HRC, if she claws her way to the nomination using these tactics.

Well, I am ashamed of being a life-long Democrat. If Bill/Hill are co-nominees - I WILL vote GOP for the FIRST time ever. I just want the Clintons and the Bushes to go away. This is not a monarchy, is it? I guess it depends on what your definition of is is....

Gary if the Clintons represent the future face of the Democratic Party it is unfortunate to say the least.
