To Keith Naughton - nice job attempting to pile on. Porsche skips the auto show and that means something ..... the show was fantastic and the Detroit automakers are on their way back .... stick it in your ear.

He was a thug when he was elected the first time around and Detroit reelected him to continue to being a thug, has nobody had any suspicions about the stripper at the famous party at the mansion who ended up dead? I mean no matter what this poor womans profession was this was still a life. Its like she was forgotten. I dont live in Detroit I live down river, I have followed the Mayors conduct since he was elected people in the state of Michigan are hurting for jobs it is hard way of life here in Michigan and now this kind of shame just adds to our misery. Thank you Newsweeks for reporting part of the truth, the only way to complete this investigation of the mayor and to be fair is for the Federal government to step in.

Also, US patriot is taking statistics out of context-- most of the 937 statements were repeats of the same false information. Besides, Saddam admitted after the war that he intented to restart his nuke program later and bluff bush into thinking he had it now. Lastly, the causus beli was NOT saddams nuclear program-- it was his refusal to let nuclear inspectors in and have full access in accordance to international law. If ATF agents come to your door with a warrrant to search your house, and you don't let them in, you broke the law and they have a right to enter by force, even if you didn't actually have anything illegal.

Why is it when two people have sex and make false statements it is worse than a presidential administration whose 937 false statements got us into a war that is killing thousands of innocent American solidiers, and even more innocent Iraqis plus maiming for life these young men and woman?
People will say because they were under oath, well if I'm not mistaken, the president and vice president all take oaths as well (to protect the constitution is part of it..which the BushCo administration is now trashing) and no one's taken them to task on it...I don't see any impeachment or anyone including the media asking them to step down. HYPOCRITES?

I don't condone what he did but it was incredibly stupid the way he got caught. Why didn't his people tell him that anything said or done on public equipment was part of the information act, Emails, cell phone, pagers, etc. Either he was incredibly stupid or incredibly cocky to think that anything he does on city equipment or time would never be seen eventually. Dummy, if you are going to have an affair and lie about

Cassimer understands the issues. The transgression was between his wife and him, and not our concern. The problem was the abuse of power when he fired two people and lied under oath about it. Also, how can you trust anyone who rolls their eyes and says "absolutly not," when asked about the affair, like Beatty did on the stand during the trial? Its hard to know who to trust with such good liars out there.

One of the comments, just read, assumed that the city has insurance to cover the $9,000,000 award.
The City of Detroit has been self insured for quite awhile.
That money will come from the cities funds....every penny.
That means employees will have to be laid off.
    What other means is available?
    Taxes can't be raised.
Therefore, city employees will suffer, along with city services.
    Many lives will be affected.
What should have been obvious to Detroit voters at the last election, is very obvious now.
    The wrong man won!

America is in a sad state, how can we teach our childern morals when there is none around to show them? From the president ( former) , to football stars who take dope and mistreat animals, to most of hollywood actors, who is able to lead our youth? No wonder most the world hates us because our lack of morals and ethics!! Sometimes I don't want to admit I'm from the U.S.

I don't think he's in trouble for having the affair. The issue is he fired 2 people because of it. And while under oath, LIED about it. This is a really messed up situation, a situation he put himself in. Yes his wife has forgiven him for the affair. He now has to explain to the people of Detroit why he employed officers to help hide his affair at the taxpayers expense. As far as the $9 million goes, no doubt the city had insurance for that, so technically, it only cost the city a deductible (a couple of hundred thousand). It looks like he let the power go to his head. Too bad.

Last night on the evening news, a Detroit woman was being interviewed on this topic. Her comment was, in effect, that Kwame didn't do anything wrong because he did the same thing our president did...and our president didn't get in trouble for it. While we can no longer argue questions of morality, we do have the right to expect that our elected officials will adhere to the laws of our land. They should be held accountable when those laws are broken. Detroit citizens did not elect the mayor with the expectation that their tax dollars would be used to fund, then cover up, his extra-marital affair or other lifestyle choices.

Im not surprised, Should any of us be surprised??? Really, I don't even see why this is a story. Detroit is a troubled and desparate city, failing in education, infrastructure and community crime prevention. When hard times come to areas, the hardest hit vote for instant relief. People who promise this are usually unable, or unwilling, to deliver. Mayor Kilpatrick is a perfect example of a power grab in desparate times. Feeling the celebrity status of political office, coupled with poor self control, enabled him to take "whats mines".

    Figure it out....

Dear maximparisian: A love affair is typically a private matter. However, when you illegally fire someone to keep your affair and then lie under oath about the affair and the firing, then the affair becomes ever so public. Worst of all, he is a lawyer and knows exactly what he was doing was wrong. And in regards to him stealing money... No, he may not have taken cash and put it in his wallet, but he most definitely has over splurged, given special treatment to friends and family, and refused to settle this suit under the 9 million it is now costing the city just because he was arrogant enough to think he could get away with it. I understand he has brought some business to Detroit, but is it to much to ask that the city have a Major that can not only bring business to our area, but also be someone we feel will put the city ahead of himself?

Boy oh boy, what a slap in the face to the city of Detroit. Kwame the liar. What a surprise!!! The shenanigans that these politicians are engaged in is outright disgusting. When will we see a true leader that can fulfill the promises that are made when they are out campaigning. SAD, SAD, SAD.
