The Boy Band Next Door

The Jonas Brothers are cute, talented and squeaky clean. Even better: they're friends of Miley Cyrus.

Agree w/ cpsoyke, except my problem is the huge number of articles printed over the past week about the Jonas Brothers' purity rings and their pledges to remain virgins until marriage. #1) This is OLD NEWS!! All of their fans and anyone who knows anything about them (which the great majority of these "reporters" do not!!) know that they've worn these rings for years and only comment on them when asked directly - there is no "flauting", though they are not ashamed of them. #2) Since when is it EVER a BAD thing for teen idols/celebrities to be proud of being good, clean, sincere people????? These guys are NOT cut from the same cloth as the Britney's, Jessica's, etc... ; They were raised by strong Christian parents who tour w/ them. They were also touring and working hard as a band BEFORE Disney was ever involved - sure, having the Disney name and $$ behind you are great for building a fan base, and there are a lot of "tweens" who like them because of Disney, but having met many parents and other adults who like them and their music, I think their demographic reach is MUCH bigger than they get credit for. Their new album due out in July '08 should prove to be interesting and attractive to an older audience - and we can't wait to see them in March!! Rock on and God Bess, guys!!!

The Jo bros have gay music and even more gay lyrics.......but THEY'RE HOTT. So that makes up for it. Actually only nick is hott. But who cares....and nick is the father of my child. (don't wry i'm 16) lol

It is sad how our culture has changed, and how an article in Newsweek on some good kids has to focus on sex. One article in the magazine I should be able to share with my 7 year old, but instead leads with a topic not relevant to music or the band. It is not many years ago that a good editor would have cut this article from what used to be a good magazine.

    Jonas Brothers
First of all to the people that complain about the Jonas Brothers, you need to get a life, and get your facts straight.

When I dont like a band or artist I dont go and complain or make fun of them. I just dont listen to their music. An example, I dont like Miley Cyrus. I dont go bashing her, I simply just dont listen to her music. Be mature, please!!

Disney did not make JB. They started off like all other bands, signed with a label, went on local tours, etc. Then got dropped by Columbia due to lack of album sales, even though JB was popular on TRL. JB then got picked up by Hollywood records, like the Plain White T's (even though no one cares about that!).

JB has worked hard to gain fans and its ridiculous how people who have done nothing with their lives criticize them everyday. Their music (played, sung, and written by them) is easy to relate to. It helps alot of us fans, believe it or not. Not only can we relate to it, but its fun, catchy, and cool. It doesnt make me angry or depressed like other music out there. JB has good, clean music which makes all of us love them.

Kevin, Joe, and Nick are very considerate and always do whats best for the fans. They try to make it possible for all of us to meet them and see them perform, even if it means adding a show or making hundreds of meet-and-greets. Also, just because they dont curse in their songs, dont party and dont do IT with every girl out there, it doesnt make them any less of a band. It makes them more than that. They are great role models!! We Love Them!!

Mike1964 your crazy ! the Jonas Brothers are very good and they are on the same path as The Beatles were when they first started and they are both really great bands

If you decide to go to college, might I suggest taking a music course or two? But if you do, first make a note of your comments here so that in a few years you can have a good, hearty laugh. And you may want to work on your run-on sentences as well.

Jonas and Hannah are just fine. My 12 yo likes snoop dogg too and my husband and I don't get alarmed. They're discovering their ears, taste and what is available in the adult world. You should not be so afraid of your children, and what they might like. They're around you 24/7. You don't nieed to bomb them with your moral compass. Believe in them

Another short-lived, below average, barely-talented teen band cashing in on today's music scene. I have 9-year old twins, a boy and a girl, who watch the Disney Channel often. We listen to a more well-rounded balance of better music such as Classical, Rock and Jazz and they like it better. Their favorite Rock Band is a little band that some of you may have heard of-The Beatles. Thank God.

Whatever...my daughter and her friends have been following Jonas Brothers since 2005, before Disney, and they are WAY more talented that some of the crappy "bands" out there who don't play their own instruments or write their own songs like these guys do. We went to their concert a while back and I found myself, a 41 year old mom, having as good a time as the kids were. It brought back some great memories of my teenage years. These guys have brought smiles to millions of kids and been an inspiration, with their spiritual background and strong commitment to their family. Isn't that what music is all about? How it makes you feel? I have fond memories of my obsession with the Osmonds, BeeGees, REO, Styx, etc, ect, staring at my posters on my wall and going to their concerts with my friends. At that time I'm sure a lot of parents thought these groups were a "flash in the pan". My daughter is creating those same memories for herself, and I am glad.

Music is an art form-at least good music is. As an art form, music should be reflective of life and of the human condition. Music is not all about how it makes you feel-that description better fits what pornography is all about. Any true art form is emotive, not emotional. Jonas Brothers have a long road ahead of them to convince me that they are anything short of mundane. I applaud their cleanliness and wholesomeness, but I see little more that makes them worthwhile.

    • Posted By: forget @ 01/28/2008 3:50:57 PM

Yeah, right. They're listening to Miley/Hannah and the Jo Bros. like every other little girl. Just be thankful. The music is clean, usually with a message. And be thankful they aren't gravitated towards rap and hip hop.

Yet another comment from someone who obviously knows nothing about Jonas Brothers (Mike1964). My daughter also listens to the more classic rock music, but she still loves these guys, too. They are not barely talented or below average. They wouldn't be where they are at if they were. I am rather impressed with what they have accomplished at an amazingly young age. They've worked their butts off to be where they are at - it didn't just happen overnight. But, those who don't bother to look into their background and learn a bit about them wouldn't know that. To compare ANY band today to the Beatles is a joke. Of course no band compares to them. But my daughter chooses to listen to a much wider range of music. Thank God.

Has any on here heard of Indigo-Son, much older band but I heard they do mock versions of Jonas Brothers songs on stage.... its supposed to be funny,

Music these days has been really disappointing, with only a few mainstream artists coming out with meaningful, catchy, and well-written songs. That's why most of the music I listen to is from every decade excluding the 90s and 00's (save a few singers/bands). This surprises most people, because I am 15 years-old.

When my friend first told me about the Jonas Brothers, I assumed they were just the latest "zomg he's soooo hawwt" band. But when their newest CD came out on August 7th, I nonetheless went to the store with her and surprised myself by buying a copy for my own use. The CD sat on my shelf for a while, but about a month later I decided to listen to it, and I fell in love with their music!
It had an equal balance of music that was really fun to dance to, and music that you could just lie on your couch with your eyes closed and reflect on life while listening to it. My favorite song is "Inseparable", it gets my heart pumping with emotion and when I close my eyes I see such beautiful images.

I'd always kind of envied girls around me because they always seemed so in love with these magazine-friendly faces and they seemed to actually enjoy their music.
The Jonas Brothers (all three!) are definitely (yes, I'll say it) hot!! It's fun to be able to be a teenager and read the magazines to find out all the latest "dirt" (even though most of it is utter BS haha), and put of posters of the Jonas Brothers in my room, and yet STILL be able to listen to their music and really truly appreciate it.
Thank you thank you thank you Joe, Nick, and Kevin!

P.S. Of course I know who Prince is! Haha :) Purple Rain=Not so great movie/Pretty damn awesome album
P.P.S. Can't wait to see a new YouTube vid from them, hopefully they'll work Joe's Ellen helmet into the video :P

  • Posted By: mcbird13 @ 01/27/2008 10:09:33 AM

Haha, it's not that hard to know who Prince is, he performed at the Superbowl last year didn't he? I haven't followed much of his career since the 80s, all I know is that Purple Rain = Not so great movie/Pretty damn awesome album!
I cannot wait for the new Jonas Brothers album, and the new movie, and the new show, and the new tour! The last line of this article says it all!
