When you say..."America would elect Hillary over a mormon," which America are you assuming? I am not mormon, and Hillary is definately not the choice of the "America" that I live in.
Not mine either, but I would readily cross party lines before I ever voted for a mormon temple prostitute.
John McCain and Mike Huckabee are misrepresenting Mitt Romney's comments about secret timetables in Iraq. They are comparing Governor Romney's comments to the same "timetable for withdrawal" that democrats are asking for. This is a clear indication that they are more interested in political gain than the truth. A ???timetable for withdrawal" is completely different from a ???timetable for achieving key milestones and objectives." Mitt Romney never said nor suggested that the US should have a timetable for withdrawal.
Any great leader or executive would outline key objectives for a major project, along with key dates to measure progress towards achieving those objectives. It is clear from Mitt???s comments that he was referring to timetables for milestones, not withdrawal. This is the only responsible thing to do. In fact, there is no way to effectively gauge success of the Petraeus Plan without specifically evaluating achievement of the 11-points in the plan. To think that our military is operating without milestones and timetables is irresponsible and na??ve. There may not be a timetable for "achieving success" or "withdrawing troops", but there are timetables, with periodic evaluation, review and adjustment, for achieving specific milestones and objectives.
Almost any leader or executive (especially an MBA) might outline milestones and objectives for any particular activity. A military leader needs only one objective. Victory. Surely, he needs to define it, but the Mitt quote I read talked about withdrawal timetables. Private, but nonetheless timetables.
I had the honor of working with a man who fought at the Battle of the Bulge. I took the opportunity to praise him for the incredible courage and dedication he and his comrades demonstrated in that conflict. With tears in his eyes he told me that it was not courage or dedication that motivated them. He said that they each knew they were more than likely dead and that, as a whole, for anyone to ever get home there was only one direction. Forward. Their was not consideration of withdrawal, no force reduction plans, no withdrawal plans. Only plans to press the battle to victory. Period.
I was never in the military. Mitt Romney is like me and the chickenhawks that Bush brought to the war. No war ribbons, just a fancy MBA and no notion of what it really means to have only one way home. A bunch of highly educated dunces who are trained to keep their options open and accustomed to keeping their mouths open with whatever bilge they think well sell to the dummies back home. We don???t need four more years of the same kinds of wiseguys that we have had for the last eight. All hat and no cowboy.
Another Romney "change of doctrine" When campaining for Gov. in Mass. He said I AM LEFT OF TED KENNEDY ON THE ISSUE OF GAY RIGHTS." Does anyone else remember these words.
What a whiner. If Romney has to fix his reputation he never had one to begin with -- just the illusions he passed off as a reputation. Me thinks he doth protesteth too much. And not too sincerely. He should stop making up issues and run on his merits whatever they may be. I've seen both candidates today and he seems to me to be the one who has come unhinged.
What a Winner, not ???whiner.??? Romney answers questions posed to him honestly and candidly. Finally a real Washington outsider steps up to fight for the American people. He understands what American business needs. He is well educated, intelligent, honest and in this race for the benefit of the American people.
McCain, on the other hand only talks the talk. When McCain was needed to lead he abandonees the his fellow Republicans (remember his Gang of 14 and his helping to block qualified, conservative judges from being voted on by the Senate). When McCain feels pressure he blames another (remember his attack on Bush and Rumsfeld or the Keating 5). McCain???s biggest ???service??? to the American people in his political life was by sponsoring the biggest attack on the American people???s free speech in the form of the McCain Feingold garbage bill.
Inasmuch as all of Romney's money and God's money will not be able to purchase him the presidency -- even if it does purchase him the nomination -- we can rest easy that we will never have to watch the spectacle of Mitt begging Vladimir for an apology. Romney is not any more conservatively pure than McCain. He's just an other political shapeshifter. I hope you are more prepared for Dem nominations to the Supreme court than I am. Have a nice day.

I would think that all the top tier Republican candidates should apologize. The war issue IS the economic issue. They can NOT be separated. We need to cut somewhere and empire building is the first choice, especially since we are not even going after Osama bin Laden, the man who killed 3000 Americans! It is very painful to watch, particularly since Osama explicitly claims to have bankrupted the old Soviet Union and wants the same for us. He may get his wish if we do not get focused on what is truly important in our foreign policy. And cut the unneeded military bases over seas.
We each seem to have our own major issue(s) that make their choice for President seem like the best one. The economy is a big one for me. My question is: Would someone tell me why we should NOT elect Ron Paul?
The rest, with Richardson and Kucinich out, seem to be talking crazy talk (or did last week, who knows what the Democrats will say next week!) about our military adventures in the Middle East. Additionally, no one else seems to understand the problems with the economy, inflation, and out of control deficit spending. Inflation is going to eat us alive, as it has already started to do so. Do you really believe that the REAL inflation rate last year, the rate that was used by the government for Social Security check increases this month, was 2.3%? Just look at the price of gold up 30% in 2007, now at an all time high and getting higher!
One can not talk about tax cuts without ALSO talking about cutting spending. We have a $9 trillion debt (nearly double since 2000) that must be paid so we can afford Social Security and Medicare. The interest payments will go sky high when we begin to fight inflation with higher Federal Reserve bank rates.
And we must stop inflation or everyone's life savings will go down the tubes, along with the middle class, like what has happened to the middle class in most countries south of our border. And do not forget Universal Health Care, which is coming down the tracks right at us, unless Republicans begin to understand the seriousness of runaway deficits and inflation. And start educating the country. A Democratic President will surely not fight inflation like Volcker and Reagan did!
Please vote Ron Paul and save the country from bankruptcy abroad and at home!
Bland smile? Is this an opinion piece?
I rather like Romney's smile, along with his intelligence, his business sucesses, his handling of the Olympics, his accomplishments as Governor, his ability to reassess a stand and improve on it, and the terrific job he did at the Florida debate. His beautiful family is a major plus as well.

It is interesting how a phrase (effectively pro-life) can take on a life of its own (pardon the pun) I searched the phrase "effectively pro-choice", which I recalled Mitt Romney using. Funny, I assumed that it was common phraseology, but it is not - it is pure Romney.
Sadly, there are millions of pro-lifers who believe that he is solidly pro-life, but I believe they are wrong. (After thousands of hours of picketing, public protest and sidewalk counseling against abortion, as well as a year in jail for my beliefs, I think I can spot a fraud.)
When Romney was campaigning as a pro-choice candidate, he claimed to be pro-life. There is a reason that he uses the phrase "effectively pro-choice" to describe himself. rather than the bare term "pro-choice". He holds to the notion that while he was actively supporting the murder of unborn children, he was still "always" pro-life (see the links below). He was either self-deceived or a deceiver and it appears that he still is.
This deception is precisely why he is not to be trusted. He has not converted - he has changed his priorities. Perhaps for political expediency (a run at the presidency) he was ???effectively pro-life???. Because there is no credible reason he ???changed???, there is no credible reason believe that if another opportunity to be "effectively pro-choice" comes along that he will not do that if it suits his purposes, all the while still clinging to the notion that he can be and "still is" pro-life.
Three undeniable facts.
1. "I am firmly pro-life," the former Massachusetts governor told about 100 Republicans at a restaurant here. "I was always for life."

2. This is definitely the impression his campaign wants to give.

3. He continued to claim to his ???effective??? position six months after his alleged conversion in November of 2004.
