    What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing. Heath Ledger struck me as a quiet, unassuming actor who loved his work -- like anyone who quietly goes about their job, but you can tell that they have a passion for it. It is so sad that he will not be here to continue to be passionate about his craft.

    This is a wonderful story of how special Heath Ledger was. I have been so sad knowing that He will no longer be able to do what He truly loved. When I saw First Knight the first time, I know that Heath was special . I followed his career from then on. He will be greatly missed. I truly feel as though I have lost a true friend. My heart goes out to Matilda, Michelle and His entire family. He is in God's care now.

    I lived near the home in Brooklyn and really enjoyed meeting him. Your words are so kind and accurate. Thank you for sharing with us such great memories. It is obvious that you saw that genuine and down to earth soul that he possessed.

    Thank you Chris Nolan for writing this. I was touched by what Daniel Day Lewis said yesterday about Heath while accepting the SAG Award for best actor. Never met him, but yet such a beautiful tribute, thats quiet something. And reading what you wrote today, it was heart-warming. Makes me feel like i knew Heath too. We have all lost a great actor, a great human being. May he rest in peace and may his child grow up always knowing that she had a most loving father who was a highly appreciated and loved man. - PVed

    I miss that kid, he struck me as a guy filled with so much energy and drive; he had a real burning passion for the things he loved in life. Some would say It's soppy to be so sentimental of a guy who most remember from chick flicks like 10 Things, but that would be disrespectful to a guy who was just out there having fun and enjoying every second he could get. We will all miss you, Sincerely and thank you Mr Ledger for the time of our lives.

    Prolific, honest, touching and above all, real. Mr. Nolan, thank you for sharing a beautifully honest memory. Thank you Mr. Lewis for speaking from the heart last night. I can see Heath Ledger with that board in hand looking over at us, giving us all a heads up and a wave and riding down the street into the moonlight. Thank you for the wonderful roles, rest well, my friend, may god watch over you, your family and friends.

    I'm so reminded of the way I felt when Elliott Smith passed, but even more so. It's just such an incredible loss that is almost literally sending shockwaves through not only the industry, but the whole general public. And you can see it in the way people like Daniel Day-Lewis, who by their own admission didn't even know him, will still talk about him as if he was a good friend. That's how powerful a performer he was. It's heartbreaking to think about. We'll all miss him dearly.

    I don't want to sound like one of those jerks who freaks out when a celebrity dies and say how sorry I am we lost such an amazing actor. What I would rather say is it is so sad we have lost such a fellow human being. Who sounded like he was a rare breed among todays modern man. It is always an awful loss when someone with such an inquisitive mind passes away who treats others as equals.

    You could feel the sadness and loss in the words written by Chris Nolan.

    A very moving tribute to someone who gave what will no doubt be an Oscar nominating performance in the yet to be released movie The Dark Knight. If there are any doubts just take a look at the trailer. He is just unbelievably good.
    It saddens me greatly Mr. Ledger will not be here to see the character he worked so hard to create.

    Rest in Peace Heath.

    How else do you say something more unique about Heath, other then what has already been said? I never met him, would have given anything to have been fortunate enough to have know that quiet, soulful, restless spirit. I can only hope that his spirit is quiet now. It just rips my heart out as a loyal fan, that I will never again see what was next out of Heath Ledger. The antisipation was hard to bare, this devastating loss, puts the icing on the preverbial cake. Like Daniel Day Lewis said last, night, " it's all I cant think about these last few days." I was so pleased someone said his name out loud, and dedicated their win to Heath. He will be greatly missed by so many. Especially this middle aged fan. God Bless and hold you safe in the palm of his hands Heath. Good night sweet Prince.

    Christopher Nolan is a hero of mine and am incredibly moved by this piece he's written. I was, and remain, a fervent admirer of Heath Ledger's. I was completely blind-sided and devastated by the news of his passing last week. Thank you to Mr. Nolan for adding to the wonderful outpouring of remembrances of Mr. Ledger that all have moved me so much over the last week. In Heath's death I believe that all of us that love to go to the cinema week in and out lost a tremendous man of his craft that never failed to surprise us. I'll miss him and remember him always.

    My sincerest condolences and regrets for your loss and trouble to the Ledger family, Michelle Williams, his friends, and little Matilda.

    For no reason other than to get away from Toledo, I decided to spend a weekend in Chicago last summer. I had no idea that Batman was being filmed until I saw the Helicopter chase scene overhead and noticed the blocked off streets. One evening, near my hotel, I was crossing a street where they were filming a chase scene with a truck. On the curb stood a guy with white make-up and a wide-red smile painted on his face. I thought it had to be an extra, but then realized it was Heath Ledger. He was casually talking to a few fans. I remember his laugher and big grin...like a big kid. It made me smile.

    I never met Heath in person, but in my mind I keep hearing Willie Nelson singing "He Was a Friend of Mine" at the end of "Brokeback Mountain". What a loss!

    ???Sic transit Gloria mundi??? ???Thus passes the glory of the world???. I am quoting a poem by Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin who died quite young and tragically like Heath, in respectful memory of Mr. Ledger, a wonderful actor and human being. I consider him just the opposite of the egocentric and narcissistic attitude of many Hollywood actors. Heather Ledger was an extremely simple young man, with a deep glance coming from his eyes and soul; he had an enormous and quite generous heart. He was indeed a contemporary James Dean, but in my opinion he was a much better actor, really magnificent in almost all his roles. Another appropriate Latin phrase is ???Memento mori??? which may be freely translated as ???Remember that you are mortal,??? He was a mortal indeed like all of us, but his time came too soon. He was as well one of the best actors of his generation, a serious and responsible one. I was quite touched by his words that having his daughter Matilda he does not need to live longer, because he can continue living through his daughter. That???s why I had chosen this Pushkin???s poem on his memory, with all my admiration and respect, praying to Our Lord that makes him rest in peace, and lots of strength and courage to his family. Last but not least, I find appalling all the scandal made by a small but noisy sect who call themselves Christians, which they don???t are, quite simple they judge others in a way which is against all the gospels teaching.

    ???It???s time my friend, it???s time. The heart demands peace.
    Day flies after day, and every hour steals;
    a crumb of life: meanwhile we delude ourselves
    that we are living, and look we are already dying;
    no happiness is here, but peace exists;
    and freedom, a weary slave, I???ve long pursued,
    a dream of flight to a far-off refuge of silence and pure delight???

    I can't believe how terribly hard I'm taking Heath's passing. It's not often that an actor comes along that I say "Wow, he is superb in every way." He was incredibly talented for someone so young. He was so handsome. His eyes and his smile were so beautiful. I knew he was so special and I looked forward to seeing all the movies he would make in the future. But, you could also see in his eyes that he was a genuinely likeable person, not comfortable with all the limelight, yet passionate about his work, his life, and his family. I have been crying for myself , his family, and for the world's loss of this very special man. Heath, you will not be forgotten and may you rest in peace.

    Your words, I'm crying, because even though I never had the chance to meet Heath I feel like part of me knows him! I think, no I know, he will live on through all our hearts and memories, and who knows, maybe one day he will take you up on that offer, and you will both be smiling, as I have no doubt he is doing from the clouds right now!
    He would be blessed that you have written of him in such fond memories! I can't wait to see The Dark Knight, I know I shall cry undoubtedly but it will be worth it! I first saw him in 10 Things I Hate About You and have never been able to forget his gorgeous, cheeky smile since! It is only a shame that I cannot come to watch it since he has gone, I don't think his movies will ever be the same again!
    Thank you once again Heath, may you live on through every part of you that remains in our hearts and dreams! May Matilda know that she will always be watched over!
