First, I LOVE Schuman's images - they are lovely and have a real sensitivity to them. Second, every single thing he shoots has either come straight from the runway and has been interpreted by the subject OR will be on the runway very soon to be interpreted by you.

Maybe this will give a chance for designers who specialize in non-standard sizing a chance to shine. These designers are often overlooked because they don't use the typical 5'10", 110 lb fifteen year old. Maybe we'll see more petite, plus and petite-plus designers out there in the near future. Remember, people, the term "real people" includes those of us who're short and thin. We don't fit the "ideal beauty" look either!

As a former model of the 80's, I understand the importance of moving the look of starvation to whats real and true. Women have curves! And we need to see that represented on the catwalk and in the magazines. It will definately show the young girls today--that's its ok to be real and look good in whatever the fashion trend is for the times. So, I look forward to the change!!!!!!!! rendvaconsult@hotmail.com

Real women come in all sizes and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you are a size 1, 14 or 20, be happy with who you are or change to make yourself happy. I am tired of seeing size 0 models everywhere and would love to see a size 10-12 on the runway. Believe it or not, most women are not a 0 and would never wear the clothes on the runway

oh, pnganly! I've been on both siades of that fence. It is true that if you have a pretty face and you've starved yourself down, people DO treat you lie royalty. It's powerful. It's lie ngiht and day, But if it isn't one's normal weight and it's all kinds of work to achieve then NO it is never worth the sacrifice to be out and about with a lover and out with people all around you. Being too thin attracted the wrong people, love. Being at my healthy weight I do not get the attention as before, but I have an incredibley sexy lover and a healthy attitude. I enjoy EVERYTHING. I am not constantly thinking about food or about my weight. It's a load off (ironically!). The power that comues with thin is not that nig of a deal. It's quite shallow, love.

Shalom! Actually, what is considered "plus-size" is close to average American/European size. The term is more of a comparative than anything else. Granted, I have had my moments in the fashion industry as a model and fashion show director/assistant. I have friends that have modeled all over the world. The industry is very biased and hard to take seriously. Think about it....it is art! I love to see unique-looking individuals with wonderful physical attributes. My perspective is more of an artistic one. "Normal" models are long overdue. There are too many pressures from the society/world today. No one needs to feel a great sense of inadequacy because there God-given bodies and attributes are considered "not good enough". Blessings and Divine Guidance!!! Shalom Shalom

I think the fashion world should sit up and pay attintion to what people really look like these days. I see some fashions that I think would look great, but then I see them on some super skinny person and it totally turns me off the look. Real people are not that skinny and most people are considered overweigt at this time. Please someone start living in the real world and stand up and be responsible role models for young girls trying to get into this field. I have seen some really beautiful girls and most of the time they are told they are not good enough because they have some meat on their bones. Come fashion world! Be real with your fashions and your ideas. Thanks.

It would really help if the people on here could actually spell, or use spell check when posting their comments. Forget about fashion, and let's concentrate on education!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not for nothing but eating one cooking or being of average weight and height has little to NOTHING to do with the fact that high fashion extols the virtues of being malnourished in order to look attractive and seem appealing. Many of these models have a BMI that would make a medical professional cringe, the same way they would at an obese person's BMI. So this is not about making healthy choices at the deli, it is about making the sensible choice to stop lauding women who are considered medically unfit due to their excessive thiness over the rest of us as if that is something to aspire to.

This is so amazing and very happy to see the real people getting a turn in this fashion world.
There is a big problem with our teenagers and someone needs to take a close look at the
what has happened to the girls and why they are obsessed with being thin. What is on their
lunch menu a cookie and water. How pathetic has this society become.

The best way to help abate the frustration when shopping is to definitely look for individual pieces rather than complete looks. If you find tops that fit your body shape at one store and bottoms that work at another you should definitely go for it. Further, don't fall into the trap of trying to 'hide' your shape - whatever it is - under a tent. Go for shapely. If you've got the curves, hug them...they're sensual and shapely however large they may be.

As for the debate about runway shows - the entire point of the shows is the "Theatre" - it's taking the sketch of an idea (a fantasy) a designer may have had and bringing it to a three dimensional place. It is meant to be a "show" - thus a Fashion Show - that gives cues that anyone can take to create what works for themselves. That's the mistake everyone makes - they take it literally.

If you have a favorite heather turtleneck that you wear today...it was once a fashion idea/story on a runway...that was adapted by other designers and retailers. It's like writing a story or painting a picture.
No one Picasso ever painted really looked like that - but the visual stories he told inspired people's IMAGINATIONS...so, don't take it so seriously. Use it to inspire and try to live the healthiest lifestyle you can given your personal circumstance. The old adage "Everything in moderation" is very very real.

I am so tired of pencil thin people modeling clothes. There are healthy non-overweight people who are not a size 4 or less. Get real people.

  • Posted By: georgina6_pink @ 01/30/2008 1:44:31 PM

So what, because I am thin I am not real? I agree that starving yourself to look like someone else is wrong and dangerous, but that is not a reason to lash out at all the thin people in the world. Or does everyone think that if you they attack other people for being smaller, they will be more beautiful? Thin is not necessarily beautiful, and neither is being bigger. HEALTHY is beautiful. As for all the young girls with anorexia, parents should see if they were giving their daughters a positive self image, instead of turning around and blaming magazine covers. It's just not nice to criticize anyone else for not looking like you do.

BRAVO!!!! It's about time the fashion industry realized curvy women are beautiful too. This is a step in the right direction - yeeeeah!

It seems that much of 20th century fashion has been a process through which designers come up with marvelous looking clothes and "we the people" have to fit into them. Well, guess what? "We the people" are marvelous looking, too! It's about time the fashion designers start designing for all of us, not just those who can fit into their idea of what a dress should look like. The fun about fashion is that it is art you can wear ... let's get a little democratic ... let's design fashion we can ALL wear!

I think the real problem is our educational system. I mean look at the spelling mistakes in this post! Besides, the trend toward real people in fashion isn't about fat people. It's about people with all kinds of looks. Not everyone can be a 4, no matter how little they eat! Anyway, sizing has changed through the years. A four would have been a 12 when Marilyn Monroe was alive! They just changed the numbers.

Regarding, "I think it is sad when the American public try and justify why it is healthy to be fat... Nasty! No wonder why our medical sucks... There are to many people with heart problems along with other problems related to being overweight. I am 23, I have a 2 year old, I work full time and I wear a size 4."
