WOW??? I can???t think of anything more repulsive than those pictures. When I am trying to picture an outfit on me, the last thing I want to do is see the same thing as a fat girl. In fact, the other day, my fianc?? and I were in Express and the girl that greeted us at the door was so freaking huge that she probably couldn???t even fit in the sizes that the store has to offer. Why the hell would they hire her, shouldn???t se be selling the clothes?? What better way to sell them then to show how awesome they look on?? She couldn???t have done that if she tried!!! I ended up leaving with not a single thing, which is completely out of my character and my fianc?? said that he was so disgusted that he would never go back in that store ever again. C???mon people, fashion is attractive, flirty and sexy, and fortunately (or for the fashion industry ???unfortunately???) fat is absolutely with out question non of those things.

hmm...I don't like seeing them on blonde white girls myself. Being black, though, I can -try them on- or -look at them online-.

I'm sorry, but as thin and fake as people think models are, they are all different. So if you are honestly saying that you look exactly like every single black, hispanic, white, brunette and blonde model, then you're fooling yourself.

Also, get over it. Regular women were allowed to feel beautiful for a few minutes. Have you always paid for every garment ever? Never had parents, men, or friends buy them for you? Wrong.

"regular" women want to wear gorgeous clothes, and maybe you aren't the only person who can afford the line you like.

the world doesn't revolve around you, burnt as you might be.

please think outside your paradigm and don't be hateful. you certainly aren't perfect. if you were, you wouldn't need ridiculously expensive clothes to assure you of your wealth and class. ;D

You are so ignorant that it's not even funny. It's people like you that make young women want to become anorexic. People are beautiful because they are unique and have their own style and look. Who is to say that beauty means that you have to have long blonde hair, size 0 waist lione, and look like you have aids because you are so skinny. I'm black, wear a size 18/20 and I'm happy with my self and you have no right to try and take others dignity away because you think that thin is in. A person can be the smallest thing walking and have the prettist face but have a *** up attitude.

    • Posted By: trixie98 @ 01/30/2008 1:40:12 PM

you stupid cow. learn how to spell, utilize punctuation, then critize overweight people. IGNORANT FOOL! You think because you are thin, that you are allowed to serve others in a department store? Oh please get real, this is about getting a job, it should not be about how you look! UGH! Fat can be whatever you have put in your head to be, unfortunately you have a warped sense that it is not sexy or attractive! HONEY- JUDGE NOT LEST YOU BE JUDGED! REMEMEBER WHEN YOU GET TO THE GATES OF HEAVEN, (IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO MAKE IT THERE..LOL) YOU WILL BE JUDGED JUST AS HARSHLY YOU HAVE JUDGED OTHERS....I WOULD BE MORE WORRIED ABOUT THAT, THAN WHO IS WORKING AT EXPRESS!

I think it's a good idea that they use models that are "normal" size...but I stilldont really get it. I mean, why would this article say that the runway is not exclusive at all...whenever I see people walking down the runway they are wearing outfits I would never, ever, consider for "real life". It's a fake world that makes a lot of money! I dont get it. Plus, they say in this article that they are still going to be skinny models, just not sickly small...why? Not that models have to be obese but why cant they just be normal, all different sizes to see what different clothes different body shapes should wear...i think i would watch the runway then...big, fat, thick, small, short, skinny, big ass, big breasts, small breasts big ass, big stomach small legs...these are the things that "real" woman deal with and have to find outfits to look good. Not just skinny, plastic surgery girls...

  • Posted By: BGreat_in2008 @ 01/30/2008 2:28:01 PM

Unfortunately, "Looking good" and comparing one's body to models in fashion magazines is not inspirational as seven_7 states; it is a primary cause of low self-esteem and many people of all ages, but particulary young women, devloping poor eating habits and eating disorders, which can be fatal. A majority of teenage girls are negatively affected by reading fashion magazines. It's good to see there is movement away from the "perfect" body to a more real depiction of healthy and happy.

  • Posted By: misskakashi @ 01/30/2008 2:21:26 PM

I agree that the models shown today are too skinny and should be replaced with "real" healthy women, with curves and with a weight over 105 pounds. Maybe 5' 6"- 5' 9" at 130-140 lbs. B-C cup and actual hips. But there are plus size models and they have there own clothing lines and you can't force designers to make there clothes in every size. Designer sizes run bigger than department store sizes anyway. So a 1/2 in designer wear is like a 3/4 in department stores. Beauty and sexy sells and curves on a woman are the ultimate sex appeal, but women buy the clothes because they want to be like the girl wearing them, if there is a "plain jane" wearing them most women won't feel the same need to buy the clothes. The same goes for men as well. In the end beautiful "curvy" women but still healthy and fit should replace the too skinny models but if you take the beautiful factor out and replace it with average the fashion industry will suffer along with sales. (Low self-esteem is an internal feeling that only effects the weak, and striving for unatainable body weight like the too skinny models is a direct reflection of an unhealthy mind and soul.)

Wow. So only average height, average weight, and average cup size? That'd be incredibly boring.

  • Posted By: southcarolinagirl94 @ 01/30/2008 1:51:06 PM

Size 12 is not fat. Real women are supposed to have a nice, curvy body... Not like a toothpick. Even the doctors are saying that a woman that wears a size 4 or 8 is Obese. My friend weighs 124 lbs. a size 3 and her doctor made her go on a diet. It's just crazy. I am happy how I am. I wear a size 11-12 and I'm not going to fuss about the way I look. God made me like this, so I guess that's how I'm going to stay.

    • Posted By: cslsx4tish @ 01/30/2008 2:27:47 PM

I cannot believe that a doctor would put your friend on a diet at size 3, I'm size 8 and my doctor better not even fix his lips to tell me that I need to go on a diet! Sickly skinny and obese are in the same category: UNHEALTHY!!!! He just condoned eating disorders, shame on that doctor!

  • Posted By: realtimes @ 01/30/2008 2:27:41 PM

Hello.....Seven_7 we are already surrounded by obesity!!! What we've been doing for the past 30 years hasn't been working. I think it's refreshing to see this new type of thinking. Maybe if we made weight less of an issue we could focus on our health.

  • Posted By: lauraxia @ 01/30/2008 2:27:38 PM

Real women buy clothes that look good on real women, and anyone who thinks that emaciated, expressionless models are beautiful should have their heads examined. I modeled for years, but frankly, I'm much more attractive now, in a size 6, than I ever was wearing a 0... and I am no longer malnurished. Kudos to the fashion industry for making some long overdue changes! Our fashion-loving teens could definitely use some healthy role models, and honestly, the models who eat once a month, and shoot heroine all day long to stay skinny do NOT look good in clothes! Healthy women are beautiful!

  • Posted By: simpleone @ 01/30/2008 2:26:54 PM

Excellent idea, we al come in many forms and shapes. Normal people appeal to all kind. This way women will notm have to starve themselves to look like a supermodel, they will be appreciated and accepted as is.

  • Posted By: distractions @ 01/30/2008 2:17:36 PM

Um, why does it matter? Models should be thin and expressionless, because
    A. Clothes look better on thin people, and
    B. The focus isn't on the models' faces, it's on the clothes.

    • Posted By: patrayceluvdance2007 @ 01/30/2008 2:22:33 PM

      • Posted By: distractions @ 01/30/2008 2:26:48 PM

-shrug- Not really, I just think that people making a big deal out of OMGZREALWOMENNEEDTOBEONTHERUNWAY is stupid.

It isn't going to become widespread. Get over it.

i think it's awesome that ppl are ready and willing to have, dare i say; average women models! it's about time! sign me up! i'm an average women! and for the size 5 girl--- i'm 5'6 a mother of 2 and i eat very healthy and get plenty of exercise. i still have curves and not six pack abs. it took me 2years to go from size 10 to an 8 so get over yourself. nobody is perfect!

First and foremost the BMI is an outdated, completely inaccurate tool. My husband is a personal trainer certified in nutrition and all levels of health and fitness with a degree in Health and Physical Science. To tell someone they are not healthy because their BMI is above 25 is completely inaccurate. My husband is 5'10" weighs 193 lbs with only 5% body fat. Is that unhealthy? According to the BMI he is obese. All it takes into account is the height and weight ratio, not muscle and fat ratio wherein heath really matters. Many of his clients are thin girls whom the BMI says is healthy and fit but upon doing their fat to muscle ratio they are 40% body fat! They have no muscle! When he starts training them they can barely lift and curl a 4lb dumbbell and can only run on the treadmill for 2 minutes before stopping and panting for breath. But given time with proper nutrition and training they look better and feel better and really are healthy, but now the BMI will tell them they are obese since muscle weighs more than fat. Never look at someone and assume they are healthy because they are slender or unhealthy because they may not be as slender as the next person. I by no means am a size 2 but I am 14 weeks pregnant but I just look pudgy right now. But I am healthy and strong.

    • Posted By: KennyF @ 01/30/2008 2:26:07 PM

I don't know where your husband received his degree (there are a lot of on-line colleges and trade academies that can give one a degree), but BMI is definitely NOT obsolete and outmoded. The CDC website I just checked says "BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems." There are other ancillary measurements like %percent body fat and waist circumference out there, but in most instances these methods agree with each other for any one person. I think neither you or your husband are "typical" people. His 5% body fat makes him sound like a bodybuilder and I can't believe that you believe that you imagine yourself a "typical" person when you are pregnant!

People shouldn't really change the fashion world too much; sure models are a bit malnourished aand it can be quite unattractive at times, but just have them gain 10 to 15 pounds and be DONE WITH IT!!! Malnourished models are better than overweight models. What kind of image are we promoting then? An overweight one is what. America is already an overweight country--if anything models spur people, women especially, to loose their excess weight. THey feel happier after they do so LET THEM!!!! If you are overweight it isn't natural--you let yourself get like that and it is horrendous that you hurt your body like that. It isn't god's will--it is your lack of will. loose the extra weight and you'll feel better. + ImABigDeal was right in the respect that models should look good in their clothes, as in sleek and sexy and thin; not pudgy with rolls and and a pot belly, fat arms and legs. IT JUST ISN"T ATTRACTIVE OR HEALTHY!!! So yeah, models should gain a little weight i get that, but for every pound they gain, overweight people should loose a pound.

Muscle is WAY sexier than bone, any day of the week, my friend.

  • Posted By: NYCGuy @ 01/30/2008 2:25:27 PM

You're right. I cave. The next time you go to Nordstrom I hope the aisles are lined with size 14 manequinns. Gotta run and do some work. Happy haggling!

  • Posted By: seven_7 @ 01/30/2008 2:14:20 PM

I'm a size 5 and stand slightly over 5 feet tall so I'm not considered "thin-looking." But the day "healthier models" take over is the day clothes will no longer look enticing. People will no longer have some sort of an inspiration to eat well, exercise and treat their bodies well. We'll be surrounded by overweight people. That means that irritable overweight people will start demanding wider aisles and blah blah blah. Yeck. The thought of it makes me sick to my stomach. God forbid that day comes. God forbid.

    • Posted By: kbalt @ 01/30/2008 2:24:58 PM

I hope you have an overweight child so you can see what its like and the pain that can be associated with dumb people like you and your comments. I bet your grandmother is fat or your mother. You really hate yourself and it is sad. Yes its freedom of speech but if you can get your head out of the toilet for a moment and read you would know that before your skinny little butt was in fashion, thicker models were in. Twiggy actually changed the modeling game when she came in, before that models like Marilyn Monroe were wearing size 9 and 13. And not I'm not big I'm actually smaller than you so I can easily say your fat, but I love myself more so I will only hip you to some knowledge my poor sad sister.

I'mABigDeal, perhaps people should also be judged on their INTELLECT. Intelligence is just as important as looks....likely more so. Having said that, perhaps you should think of what "immage" you portray in your postings. I feel bad for your daughter, having been raised by such a shallow parent.

    • Posted By: Ornot @ 01/30/2008 2:10:28 PM

Yea when I look at a fashion magazine I'm looking for intelligence............please.

      • Posted By: Angelaisnutsok @ 01/30/2008 2:24:43 PM

i agree with you on that front.

  • Posted By: r1e1d7s @ 01/30/2008 2:24:36 PM

I think its amazing that they want to bring in "Real people" Because the people who buy their close arnt always a size 1 or 2.The fact is most of the world isnt a size 1 or 2 and so why should we make the world feel ashamed of themselves.

  • Posted By: theworldasicit @ 01/30/2008 2:24:34 PM

I have a hard time with the idea that beauty is only in the single digits. I am not a small girl but I am not large either. I have friends of all sizes and they are wonderful people. The media today have convinced many that the ideal size and weight is small small small and if you are not small you are out. I have a hard time when someone tells me that this is not true because when I am with a group of guys all I hear about it that sexy, tall, long leg, blonde, or when I got the store all I can find is the small sizes becasue they do not go above the size 9. I personally experience the battle everyday and for the idea of what real women look like and what real men look like being used for photo shoots thrills me to death!

  • Posted By: pray4sneaux @ 01/30/2008 2:24:08 PM

Re: seven's comment, "People will no longer have some sort of an inspiration to eat well, exercise and treat their bodies well. We'll be surrounded by overweight people." Look around! We're ALREADY surrounded by overweight people who are not inspired to get healthy. Certainly emaciated models have done nothing to inspire and motivate us... so I say, let real women and men model, to help our young people have a more realistic body image!

I know many men as well, and honestly there is no ideal size for a woman to be. Beauty has way more to do with self confidence and the way a person carries themselves than it has to do with the number on the scale or the number on the pant size. Most men I know (and these are gym rats by the way) appreciate a woman's curves more than they like the body of a woman who looks like she still hasn't gone through puberty. Healthy and confident is way more appealing than someone so concerned with their looks that they have to fake tan, have plastic surgery, and bleach their hair to fit some ridiculous stereotype of what sadly misinformed women think men want.
