True that Regan, JFK or Clinton did have experience when they first came into power. But Obama is no Reagan, no JFK , no Clinton.

No one knew what kind of president those three inexperienced candidates would be until they actually served some years in office. How fair is it of you to judge Obama against those three when he has not even spent one day in office? You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry...all had plenty of experience and all had about as much personality as a pile of wood. Kinda like Clinton.
What else did they all have in common?
Oh that's right, they were losers.

Has anyone actually watched HRC's post-SC event on C-SPAN? She goes on for over an hour. It is torture. It is pathetic and sad. And the audience is falling asleep. Just listen to her riff on her marriage to Bill and all that she achieved after she married him. It is a stunning implosion. And I guess Bill went on for 75 minutes wherever he was tonight.

More than half of all white voters under the age of 40 sided with Obama in South Carolina. Obama beat Hillary among single women of both races in every age group except those 65 years and older. Just as in Iowa, he has shown that race doesn't matter, gender doesn't matter, and income doesn't matter; Obama's appeal is universal.

since everyone is hung up on race, lets take a look at ms clinton. she has ridiculed ghandi, you can see the video on youtube, been accused of making antisemetic remarks several times in the past, and has exploited the african american community for years. several of her previous campaign workers including robert reich have tried to distance themselves from her and she is so controlling, dont think for a moment that bill was sent out on his own without marching instructions. these are rogues, manipulative thugs in suits who hide behind intellect and spin to further their own self interests. these are not the type of democrats i want to lead the country. anytime they are called on something, it is irrelevant or dismissed. the fact of the matter is that another clinton administration will give us nothing but more infighting, paralysis, and lack of direction. bilious billary should just get off the political dole and get real jobs, even if they have to formally register as agents of the saudis. theyre time has come and gone.

Is it any surprise that Sen. Obama won. It was a foregone conclusion with over 50% of the population black. He got only 25 % non-black votes. Is this the way he can win the primaries? Let's see what he can do on February 5. Obama, by his own design has cornered his candidacy to the race and now it will be difficult for to him to get out of that corner. Hispanics, Asian and white voters will not vote for him because he has used the race card to win the SC primary. The media and irresponsible journalists have lost all credibility. Instead of focusing on health care, economy, medicaid and other crucial matters to the people they have tried to play this race game. It is very sad that instead of informing and educating the people, they are engaged in this game.

Actually I think the fact that Obama received 25% of white votes in a southern state so closely associated with the Confederacy is remarkable in and of itself. And let's not forget that Obama also won Iowa, a state that's over 90% white and roughly 5% black. I think that shows that Obama's support is not based entirely on the color of his skin. It's about time this country became truely color blind.

I am a 70 year old white woman from Arizona and Obama has my vote. I lost all respect for the Clintons with their anything goes to win talk last week. Obama gives hope; not the tired old partisan politics of the Clintons.

Your inability to understand this form of communication doesn't equal to the absence of talk of policies in his speeches.

Obama speaks in cliches. A lot of people believe in used car salesmen too.

Most commercial have a slogan or jingle......it's like he is a new "KEN" doll but he is black and running for president. Mattel is at it again!

the rancor evident in south carolina is simply reminiscent of the clintons scorched earth win at any costs politics. this is as hilary clinton said in new hampshire "personal" . she and her husband practice the penultimate politics of personal destruction, and im sure they are both pissed that someone - obama- has obviously derailed their plans for a coronation. if they are so adept at trasing a fellow democrat, what hope is there of them working with republicans in congress? people seem to forget the deadlock and bitterness of the 90's and the blunders of the bush administration make the previous clinton one look good by comparison, but the fact remains that the first clinton white house was less than successful in many ways. clinton would probably be an afterthought were it not for ross perot and a foolish republican strategy to nominate bob dole. hope has no color, and hubris is always fatal. senator obama hands down is the man to lead this country forward and repudiate the politics of anger and destruction that the clintions embody.
mr and mrs clinton should do us all a favor and depart the national stage as soon as possible.

  • Posted By: quill @ 01/26/2008 11:50:35 PM

The bottom line is that many more people are hoping for an Obama win than are hoping for a Clinton win. A sizable chunk of her own party hates her. That should tell you something about her chances of winning in November should she be the nominee.

Are you saying Obama supporters are haters? You can't have it both ways.

      • Posted By: lancemonotone @ 01/27/2008 12:17:27 AM

I'm an Edwards supporter and I hate what Clinton is doing to our party. Does that make me a hater, or a crybaby?

I am a 42 year old white mom in Oklahoma. I looked at my 11 year old son sitting on the edge of his seat as we watched Obama's thank you speech tonight and the hope in my little boys eyes caused me to tear up! Obama gets my vote super Tuesday.

Watching how bill has been campaigning for Hillary, I can't help it but hink that he is running for a disguised third term. Shouldn't Hillary rise up to prove that she can win it based on her merrits?

Over 100 times, Obama has refused to put his career on the line and actually VOTE in the Senate for his constituencies. He refuses to say the Pledge of Allegiance - not even an edited version for public schools. He has absolutely no experience. Hillary and Edwards are both far more qualified. Obama's inspiration is not what we need - it will not solve the health care problems, the problems with Iraq or the problems with the economy. Hillary just gave a fabulous speech in Tennessee and took questions from everyone. She knows what she's up to, and as a woman I totally support her professionalism and her strength to stomp the pavement all over the place.

    • Posted By: Morrisen @ 01/27/2008 12:00:00 AM

But Hilary was on the health committee when she was 1st lady/cabinet and for 8 years she still didn't get anything accomplished. That shows her professionalism. Even other 1st ladies did more than she did. She also continues to mention 35 years of experience but what experience. Also as she claims Obama has an unclean record she still has more fault than Obama does http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_allen_l__080126_a_study_in_relative_.htm

    • Posted By: lancemonotone @ 01/26/2008 11:54:23 PM

Oh, seriously, dude. That pledge lie is SO freaking stupid. Why on earth do you want to be willfully ignorant? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACNJMg6ZHu8

"Over 100 times, Obama has refused to put his career on the line and actually VOTE in the Senate for his onstituencies. He refuses to say the Pledge of Allegiance - not even an edited version for public schools."

This comment is bullshit in so many ways. First of all, 100 "Present" votes out of 4,400 total votes in Illinois amounts to voting "Present" 0.02% of the time. Do you really think Hillary's record is any better? Of course not, this is just standard Clinton smear, they accuse him of what they are guilty of. Those "Present" votes were organized by Planned Parenthood, anyway, and it was part of a legislative strategy to prevent anti-abortion bills from getting past while protecting pro-choice candidates in vulnerable districts from being unseated.

And second, the bit about the Pledge of Allegiance--WTF? You can watch videos of him leading the Senate in the Pledge on YouTube. What you're repeating is 100% pure Clinton lies.

Can anyone tell me how a politician from the corrupt Chicago political machine can bring about change in the country? Did he do anything about the corruption on his home turf?

    • Posted By: quill @ 01/26/2008 11:30:12 PM

      Seagreen:

Yes, Obama did work wonders in cleaning up the political system here in Illinois. He authored the most drastic government ethics reforms we've had in a hundred years. I advise you to look into his record on that subject sometime; ethics reform has been one of the hallmarks of his career.

      • Posted By: seegreen @ 01/26/2008 11:39:38 PM

The one that gives politicians immunity as long as they are doing the bad things standing up?

        • Posted By: quill @ 01/26/2008 11:46:08 PM

Obama has authored literally hundreds of bills, a good number of them relating to ethics reform. His record stands for itself. I don't need to defend it.

          • Posted By: seegreen @ 01/26/2008 11:50:45 PM

or is his cynical ethics reform bill not defendible?

  • Posted By: WernerPatels_The_Spade @ 01/26/2008 11:44:50 PM

I am glad Obama won. I am still keeping my fingers crossed that Hillary won't make it in the end -- she'd be a disaster for America.

    • Posted By: Change is a verb not a platform @ 01/26/2008 11:50:21 PM

If Obama wins I might have to vote republican. That is what is so scary about this race.

  • Posted By: quill @ 01/26/2008 10:58:00 PM

A vote for Clinton in the primaries is a vote for McCain in the general election. She is too divisive to win against any moderate Republican opponent. Her campaign has already torn her own party apart; just imagine what it would do to our country.

    • Posted By: lancemonotone @ 01/26/2008 11:47:56 PM

Quill, that is the most compelling argument I've heard yet against Clinton. I know I will vote McCain in the general if Clinton is our nominee. I am astounded yet again at her tactics in trying to get the delegates from MI and FL. Disgusting and dirty. I don't want to be a Dem if she's representing our party. Moreover if you listen to some (admittedly not all) of her supporters here and elsewhere, they sound an awful lot like dittoheads.

It was to be expected that Obama would win a predominantly black state. That's a racial factor. Not necessarily a bad thing but the votes largely came in from the blacks for a black. And it is the turn of the rest of America to weigh in. I still think that beyond personalities, it would be more universally significant to elect the first woman president of the strongest nation in the world because gender transcends beyond race and culture.

    • Posted By: Morrisen @ 01/26/2008 11:46:45 PM

A quote from MG1220:"gender transcends beyond race and culture". Even though gender transcends beyond that Hillary still ain't the female president that America is looking for. She sure does put up some good acting and staging with credentials shown in New Hampshire. Case and point, at work we had the first female CEO and after 2 years results showed that she made the company even worse than before. My company had to search for another CEO, also a woman. She did make some progress trying to reverse the damage caused by the 1st female CEO. However she was short-lived because of differences between the executive boards. Later the board went on to select a third female CEO and she so far has been on board for awhile. So case in point IMHO Hillary isn???t the female president that America is looking for and she???d cause more issues for the country than it???s worth. I???m also ready for a female president and America???s female president is out there but she sure ain???t Hillary!

The big news besides this impressive victory for Mr. Obama is the huge turnout. Obama had more votes than McCain and Huckabee, the top two Republicans last week, combined. The Democratic primary drew 100,000 more voters than the Republicans in a state that always has been going Republican! That bodes well for this fall for the Democratic candidate, moreso if that is the inspiring Barack Obama.

    • Posted By: Change is a verb not a platform @ 01/26/2008 11:43:15 PM

Yes that is impressive, usually blacks don't go out to vote in such high numbers.
