Thank you for your moving story. As an Obama supporting Democrat I nevertheless respect your heartfelt views and support of McCain; I actually voted for him myself in the 2000 Michigan primary. I hope this country is well served by a general election campaign between McCain and Obama that respects the good will and patriotism of most Americans.

Take it easy on him the author of this article just like lots other people in american got confused by our leadership and thought that killing lots of angry poor iraqis would somehow make us feel better about what happened on sept 11.

*** If we pulled out of Europe today, there would be war tomorrow. ***

What in the name of christ are you babbling about? Are you completely demented?

Being a POW for 5 years probabaly does not quality a person to be President of The United States. But telling your jailers that you won't leave until every prisoner who got there before you did, probably does. This country was founded, lead and kept alive by people with "character". It looks like we are about to give another man with character the chance to lead this great nation.

people should read "Why Courage Matters" by John McCain. The book was truly moving. I'm more of a democrat in terms of issues, but for a long time now, I've wanted him to be my president.

What an idiot you are. You were suckered into doing exactly what they wanted you to do. We attacked Iraq to establish a permanent military stronghold in the Middle East from which to protect Israel. And fools like you and McCain, who see war only from the viewpoint of a soldier and not from the larger picture, are more than ready to sacrifice billions and billions of OUR dollars on killing people we should not be killing. Then you go around patting yourselves on the back for being such "heroes!

Most of the world is not like us. They do not have our education, money, and security. These things give us the ability to sit back in our warm homes, at our table with a good meal, and time to relax. By many in this world, our poorest would be considered rich. Don't get me wrong, we have a long way to go in this country to build up those in need. Without the strong military we have, and the willingness of our soldiers to fight, many would waste little time taking what we have. Don't kid yourselves into believing that the human race has evolved that far from lower animals. We should not leave the middle east just like we have not left almost every other part of the world. The longer we stay the better chance of pease. If we pulled out of Europe today, there would be war tomorrow. Think about it.

*** Does sitting in the Hanoi Hilton for over 5 years qualify one as a military expert? ***

No, you pathetic jackass. But attending the Naval Academy, serving for 22 years in the Navy, having been in a real war, serving as the Navy's liason to the Senate, retiring as a navy captain and then serving for 20 years on the Senate Armed Services committee might.

its ok I forgive your for jumping ship, but it was nice standing in the crowne plaza on election night in NH, after waiting for 8 years the comeback was then real and it seemed like a little vindication for all those horrid bush years we mccainaics endured, go johnnie go,

McCain sitting in the Hanoi Hilton for 5 years hardly qualifies him as an expert on military affairs. He's lived off that experince for his whole political life. Give me a break. As a Vietnam Era Vet, I'm tired of his "more patriotic that thou" schtick. He is a mad dog warmonger. He'll probably hire Bush and Cheney as his advisors if elected.

Does sitting in the Hanoi Hilton for over 5 years qualify one as a military expert? You'd think he would have learned the futility of getting us involved in illegal wars. Mad Dog McCain is a war monger!

Beautifully written. I am sure the McCain campaign is as proud to have you as you are to have them. McCain 2008!

Mccain may be a war hero. But He is a war monger. McCain thinks and emphasizes his strategy of troop surge. It is a dangerous action and it makes American and the other western countries very unsafe. More civilians in the Middle east and Pakistan have become angered by this and resorted to violent actions. McCain's strategy is nothing but a big looming disaster around our horizon. Anybody who supports McCain because of his war credentials is purley ignorant of making peace and intended to fuel more hate mongering. Ron Paul is the man of the Hour. He is the only who can put America's crebility on the world stage.
