Comment: hi to you all ...... your remarks do nothing but amplify your comments towards yourself. You must be a professional idiot.... that says alot. The abuses these people faced are incredible. No one stepped forward to help them, NO ONE. Thank god there is some justice in this world and to stand up for what you believe and to judge the oppressor for the oppressed is admireable and incredible. thank you.

Comment: The Caesar bashing holds a little less water when you spell his name wrong. Makes you look like you have no idea what you are talking about but still open your mouth just to see/hear yourself type/talk.
Which is something only an idiot would do.

Comment: Why is this story on the back page? It should be right up front. So many of Saddam's religious followers infiltrate the chat rooms and manipulate the news media convincing the liberals in the USA to believe Saddam's rule was a good thing. More of these type of stories need to be up in thier face and not the dribble of people like Lindsy Mohan. What a waste of news coverage to burry this.

Comment: Boriquen, Puerto Rico Dear bohdansz, your suggestion of "MERCY" for the likes of Sadam Hussein is the most stupid inhuman statement that I have ever heard a liberal make. The "MERCY" should belong to the victims and their families. Our own criminal justice system is broken because liberals like you want to be merciful and lenient with child and women murderers and rapists. That is why our women and children across the nation are being murdered and raped by criminals to whom our judges are giving light sentences or probation. You wouldn`t write this kind of comment if you were one of the victims or a relative of the victims.Sadam and his minions got exactly what they deserved. Just like Hitlers minions got what they deserved, after torturing and murdering over 6 million Jews, 2 million Poles, and almost wiped out the Armenians. I would not like living where you live. There are crimes that cry out to God for justice. The justice system needs to addressthe need of justice for the victim not for the criminal. Would you rather have the victim or their family take justice by their own hand? Like some guy that went and killed some child rapists. I aplaud him because those criminals should either be put to death or imprisoned for life. The courts trust that these criminals will remain in house arrests and will not seek to criminaly rape and torture children again. How stupid can they (judges) get, because of their stupidity we pay the price of continually having our children and women raped, tortured and murdered.

Comment: I do not believe that Saddam Hussein had a fair trial. The very al-Qaida phenomenon may be due to the ruthlessness of Saddam's death. Who is to say that what we call al-Qaida in Iraq is no other than the Baathist elements dissatisfied with this unjust trial! The Taliban may just be using the Baathists for its own purposes. This is not to say that Saddam wasn't guilty, only that mercy should always accompany
civilized trials if we want a better world!

Comment: I am one of the global justice center lawyers advocating for women's rights under international law to the Tribunal by representing various Iraqi women's groups, beginning with WAFDI. I do not now nor have I ever in my life taken any US money and donated my time pro bono with private foundation funding paying the
expenses for the training. Kurdish women rape victims put in detention camps by saddam should not be geopolitical pawns in a bush reaction to the war. Personally I was/am against the invasion but I am for doing what I can for war crimes victims and encourageing courageous judges. One of hte judges on the Tribunal had been jailed by saddam for refusing to order a beheading of a woman. That we need to support.

Becasue the tribunal judges in Anfal siad that rpae was torture, that means under the iraq constitution the kurdish rape victims can get reparations from the state. Better than in the US. Janet Benshoofin camps in

Comment: while i admit the way we entered iraq was wrong, what we have done there is right. we basicly freed a country. i would of liked to see a bit more of the world behind the desicion. yet there is no doubt we purged a evil man/men from the earth.

moe nasser, are you denying that hussain killed and turtured his own people? Do you not think that is a god ANY god exists that THAT man is being punished for his crimes? If you belive a saddams in heaven i want to go to hell becouse that god is not worth my worship.

Comment: Am I the only one who wonders why this is story is titled "Saddam's unrepentent judge"? Is it implied that he should be repentent of something here? My impression is that he was courageous to stand up against this dictator and he continues to do a very difficult job under dangerous circumstances. Why repent for that?? Geez, newsweek. Not a fan of the Bush admin or the war, but I agree with poster poncho below...the real story here is these judges/lawyers visiting the US, the Holocaust museum, Ginsberg and discussing women's rights in Iraq. The fact that that they are visting colleges to share their part in history with students at Indoctrinate U is fantastic. Let the truth set us all free...

Comment: Moe Nasser, you talk very big and proud and threatening for someone who supports a bunch of thugs and terrorists who are on the LOSING side of History. You will do nothing at all to Mohammed Oreibi al-Khalifa. He will live a long, proud and respected life. If you are unhappy with that, then you are welcome to come to Iraq yourself and "do" something about it and fight America's troops, if you have the courage for that. Your bones will whiten in the sun, and when they are finally covered over, a swine shall accompany you to the AfterLife.

Comment: No we aren't in any of those countries. And you can add Burma to that country list as well. That was the entire point of my post. You asked said earlier that we shouldn't fight for what is ultimately right, and my response was how do you define where you fight? Is it NK, Burma, Kenya, Darfur, etc.? We've intervened in country's that best served our interests, and those that don't we let burn. So your argument that we fight for whats right makes no sense. We fight when it benefits us. Unfortunately, this war will, in the long run, make us more vulnerable than ever.

    • Posted By: observer101 @ 01/31/2008 20:53:36

Comment: We are in a fight for the very existence of human rights and freedom. If it takes us to any of those countries then it does. True we cant police the world, just the ones that draw us to them. By the By if you are saying it was all for oil, then I havent seen any benefits of it where I am. And I definately dont see any Iraqis fighting the U.S. for oil over there, as a matter of fact they are fighting amongst themselves for it. We all have an interest in the Middle East whether we like it or not. And if it calls for taking out a few Dictators along the way then I am all for it.

  • Posted By: kakwkbvo @ 01/31/2008 11:41:14 AM

Comment: I agree that the ends do not justify the means. The argument that "it was worth it to the tortured to take him out" doesn't hold any water with me. Line up a North Korean, Iraqi, Tutsi, Kenyan, and someone from Darfur and ask them if it is worth us intervening. When they all say yes, that argument is thrown out the window. We chose to intervene in the country that best served our interests. It had nothing to do with "doing the right thing."

    • Posted By: observer101 @ 01/31/2008 14:17:22

Comment: We are not in North Korea, Darfur, Kenya, or any of those counrties right now are we?...And I am sure there are atrocities coming out of those areas. Saddam RAN his mouth, hedged his bets against us going after him and this is the end result...One less dictator is always a good thing. And you not seeing the light regarding that is pretty sad. Maybe others will learn from this perfect example of a murderous killer, what can and will happen to them sooner or later. Let them run there mouths, threaten the U.S. or other peaceful nations, like Saddam did, and there results will be similar.

Comment: People are failing to see the most amazing part of this story... Iraqi judges discussing women's rights with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and visiting the Holocaust Memorial! Let's stop with these tired arguments - the situation is what it is, we decided to go to war, we're there, and this is the most positive thing that we've seen coming out of Iraq. That is the news!

Comment: SADDAM HUSSEIN was one of the must brutal dictators to ever walk this earth. He killed without reason. HE FED individuals to lions for his entertainment. His son's were even more ruthless. WHY. HE HAD to be eliminated. THERE IS NO DOUBT HE IS BURNING IN HELLLLL.

    • Posted By: observer101 @ 01/30/2008 20:16:10

Comment: How can you say that?...That dictator needlessly murdered thousands, and you are saying that we shouldnt fight for what was ultimately right. All those clowns in Washington knew something wasnt right there. Just because we didnt find nukes in bunkers, doesnt mean nothing good came from this. We took out a serial killer maniac that tortured his own ppl. And you make a comment like that? Im sorry but in this case "the ends do justify the means."

  • Posted By: observer101 @ 01/30/2008 4:17:33 PM

Comment: To all you nay sayers out there that think we should not have taken out Saddam, enjoy reading his past exploits. Our troops died for their beliefs of doing something right. And it was right to take out that nasty, sadistic, sick pervert. Try telling the tortured that it wasnt worth it that he was taken out of power. Bush may not have been the best president , but he did the right thing when it came to Iraq. Look out Iranian extremists you can be next if you dont change your sadistic , inhuman ways.

    • Posted By: kakwkbvo @ 01/31/2008 10:59:54

Comment: So with that logic, we should invade North Korea, Rwanda, Kenya, Iran, Darfur, Myanmar, etc. This policy of intervention has done more to weaken our nation than it has strengthen it. Afghanisan was a necessity, Iraq was an excercise in hubris.
