The National Taxpayers Union Foundation also published a study on the State of the Union on the spending that would be incurred from the projects mentioned. A release on the study is available at http://www.ntu.org/main/press.php?PressID=990&org_name=NTUF . The entire break down is available at :http://www.ntu.org/main/page.php?PageID=143 .

YOU FOLKS IN THE MEDIA SHOULD BE REALLY PROUD OF YOURSELVES. YOU HAVE MANAGED TO TWIST AND ACTUALLY LIE TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC TO MAKE SO MANY BELIEVE THAT THINGS ARE SO BAD IN AMERICA BECAUSE OF REPUBLICAN POLICIES. WHY DO HATE AMERICA SO MUCH?

Recession is a nicer word for the term depression. It is quite obvious when the average people are unable to maintain a decent standard of living on a continous basis there are problems the government has not resolved. The war of Iraq, and talk of the threat of Iran should not be of the agenda of America. Bank loans are out of reach, school loans are declining, evidence of apparent hunger in this country, jobs are fewer and prices continue to rise no amount of tough talk from the president of USA can by any means apply reasoning to a nation that has not seen any prosperity under his administration. If I was able to show President George W. Bush appreciation for his services he would walk back to Texas.

It appears recession is a dress down for the word depression. When the dollar buys less, jobs are fewer, banks lending power is declining, students loans are out of reach etc. the state of the union is in a sad status, these are of the things that are required to make the country progress. The progress of a poorly guided war in- which has tumbled this country into a lifetime of disappointments should not be on the agenda of a nation that is in need of growth. President Bush has not heeded to the purpose of the people and his tough talk is of little value or promise for a better tomorrow. It is time for the republicans to realize the status of this country is developed and maintained by the everyday people, of whom that works on the jobs, pays taxes, raises childrens, looks toward retirement-- these are the values that has maintained balance in this country and when the people cannot meet provide the needs of everyday living George W. Bush should realize he has failed as the presidennt of the United States of America.

To bill50, if this is a liberal Magazine it is the best kind. With out liberal ideas and thoughts this would be just another conservative, brainwash, propaganda pamphlet, talking about how Bill Clinton is at fault for every problem facing this country.
This is not about bashing Republicans, Bush or Reagan, it's about having someone that was elected to the highest office in the world and that person doing a bad job. Bush has done a bad job. We were attacked on his watch and he still hasn't been able to catch "the One Man" responsible. His office has distracted us from this point by fighting a "war" in Iraq, for what? To give our kids a better education?, to make us safer? so we can pay less taxes?
What state do you live in? Vermont?
Who's ever elected and what ever party, they just need to do a good job. Republican or Democrat

I appreciated the facts. As Factchek.org points out Bush's use of facts frequently serves as a cover-up. Typical of everything Bush has done for the last 7 years. Incidentally before trumpeting too much on test scores, factcheck.org might want to ask how motivated students are to take the NCLB tests. Maybe the reason test scores do not rise so dramatically in the 8th grade is simple. In the 8th grade, students tend to be know-it-all wiseacres who don't see much purpose in taking a stupid test that doesn't mean anything any way. That is especially true in inner city schools, and if you think this attiude is bad in 8th grade - wait until these students hit high school. There the mandated tests merely measure of what a bunch of bored, street-smart, know-it-all adolescents think about a stupid test that is as relevant to their lives as a war of cockroaches on Saturn. I should know because I just retired after a lifetime of teching in innercity schools

Bush lied to get us into a war. That is enough for me. I will be glad when he is gone.

Bush is very good at half truths and omissions. His whole presidency is based on them. I'm just thankfull atthis point that he was stopped from putting Social Security funds in the stock market. Another one of his hairbrained schemes. Maybe folks will start paying attention now and elect a president and a congress who acti=ually know what they are doing.

This is a very liberal magazine and it is fashionable to bash Bush. What ever Bush has done will never be enough or good enough. It sounds as if these writers will not be happy until we leave Iraq, whether the job is done or not, tax the rich who employ us, and have a welfare state such as was started in the 60's with LBJ and we pay people to have babies and not marry.
Lets ask ourselves these questions. Are we paying less taxes? I believe yes. Are we safer? Once again I believe yes. Are our children getting educated? This is mostly run by the States but in my State I would have to say yes. Does everyone have health care? No. This is a difficult problem to work out but the government is not the answer. They can't run Medicare effectively how will they run a national health care. Do we have the best health care in the world. Yes. Is our economy better? It has been through most of Bush's term but recently has declined. Our economy goes in cycles. Remeber when Bush was first elected we were also talking about a recession.
As Bush enters his last term we should remeber, according to the press, that Bush was our worst president ever as was Reagan when he left office. This will continue until we elect a democrat who will raise our taxes, leave Iraq, not defend our nation, and put together a national health care plan that will cost us Billions not because it is the right thing to do but because it will get them elected.
