Senator and President Clinton have been pushing on the experience factor lately. President Clinton, made a hit on Senator Obamas lack of experience. Edwards doesn???t have a huge resume of experience in the federal government either. Lets be real about Senator Clinton too. She is a one term Senator who held no other elected office. what experience is she touting? her time as First Lady should not factor into this equation- it wasnt elected and doesnt give her experience other than by some sort of White House osmosis. So the question remains ??? is experience an issue?
Senator Obamas home state of Illinois is particularly good at electing inexperienced nobodies as president???perhaps youve heard of Abraham Lincoln?
Lets think about this for a minute??? does anyone really have experience being president, before actually BEING a president?

Senators Obamas and Edwards have more foreign policy experience than that of, Governors turned Presidents???and out of the last five presidents, Bush, Clinton, Reagan, and Carter were all governors.

The last senator to make the jump to the White House had only one term under his belt before winning the Democratic primary. In the general election, he was called unelectable because of one of his inherent characteristics; the country wasnt ready for such a man to be president, his detractors said. Yet in spite of this, John F. Kennedy went on to become one of the most beloved presidents in recent history.

Senators who have experience often seem out of touch with real people. The bubble of the Senate makes the world a very different place- especially when it comes to connection and speaking. Senators tend to bloviate- debate is the essence of the Senate. Senators also have a sense of entitlement that seems to come from being in our version of The House of Lords. I once heard that there are 100 people who want to be President that you can locate quickly- the members of the US Senate.

Is experience something to consider: lets take a look back at some of the past presidents:
    James Buchanan: 29 years
    Gerald Ford: 25 years
    George H.W. Bush: 17 years
    Richard Nixon: 14 years
    Bill Clinton: 12 years
    Ronald Reagan: 8 years
    George W. Bush: 7 years
    Abraham Lincoln: 2 years
    George Washington: 0 years
    Dwight Eisenhower: 0 years
James Buchanan, who had 29 years of service as a representative, senator, ambassador and Secretary of State, is arguably the worst president in the US history. While Abraham Lincoln with only 2 years experience in the federal government is considered a national icon and, with George Washington, one of the most venerated leaders in our nations history. Going by this list, it is difficult to say that more experience is better.

Havent we learned in the past 7 years that you really don???t need experience to become president? I dont think Bush is a disastrous president because he has little experience compared to other previous presidents??? hes just awfully stupid.

Will people vote for the candidate that is most qualified to lead this country and who has a good understanding of the inner workings of Washington?

This is a nation that thrives on instant gratification and it's also one that is easily swayed by the media who continue to "create" stories rather than report them. This is a country that voted Bush into office TWICE; what does this have to say about the character and the intelligence of people who vote our elected officials into office? It's a downright embarrassment and people need to wake up and start realizing that these elections are not a popularity contest; this is serious stuff. It shouldn't be based on race or gender; it should be based on the track record, experience, and the inner working knowledge of Washington.

I'm also surprised that Obama has become this phenomenon with the media when in fact he was just recently voted into the Senate and hasn't even had the time to prove himself; this is never a topic of discussion though. Obama is an intelligent, eloquent man who definitely has leadership qualities, but now is not the time to vote an unproven politician into the most important office in our country. His message is clear and concise; he says all the right things, but how can he get things done in Washington when he doesn't have the necessary exposure? The mindset of some people is to latch onto catchphrases and slick media propaganda, but when it comes to research and educating themselves concerning the actual qualifications and experience of a candidate, it's a downright travesty.

So, your argument for experienced Presidents is based on what information? I am curious and would like to know. I would like to see a report on the experience of our past Presidents and the performance of the country. Good point. How long was Bill Clinton in Washington before he was elected President?

As usual Fineman is cluless about what voters care about in 2008. If endorsements and "Media Hype" mattered...then how come Hillary won NH, NV, and now FL. And if Obama is "poised to take the lead", then why is he down by double digits in CA, NM, AZ, NY, NJ, PA...etc.

It's going to be great on Feb 5th when Hillary sweeps Super Tuesday, and Howard is left rtrying to explain how he "Got it wrong"...yet again:)

If she is the Dem candidate, then count on a Rep President.

WE COMPLETELY SUPPORT SENATOR AND TWO TIME FIRST LADY HILLARY CLINTON!who has graciously with stood all the biased media attacks on a white woman, (wich is disgusting)the media fighting obamas battles for him because he has no substance and merit! she is HANDS DOWN the stronger candidate WHO IS ABLE AND PROVEN SHE CAN FIGHT THE BATTLES AND WILL GET THINGS DONE FOR ALL AMERCIANS NOT JUST BLACK VOTERS ( like obama camp)! Who else on earth has tolerated the unbelievable lies and attacks and spins then Hillay and still she fights on for the middle class, she takes her licks and keeps going un like obama who keeps hiding behind the likes of oprah and now old crazy guy teddy. Who cares what caroline says. She now has clout? for what?

The Kennedys have been nothing but disgraceful scandles in the last 25 years, relatives accused of murders, rapes etc and that gives the Kennedy name clout? Don't think so... Ted Kennedy is now go headed for a disgraceful end. The Massachusetts senator has been caught in a sneaky plot to kill a clean-energy project in Nantucket Sound. Seems he doesn't want to see wind turbines from his waterfront estate. "Don't you realize -- that's where I sail!" he famously said.
The Obama campaign has criticized Hillary Clinton's candidacy as another example of dynastic politics. But now that Obama is playing adopted son of the Kennedy clan, that argument falls apart. Kennedy mystique Is so much JUST hot air. OBAMA IS A JOKE

Obama doesn't deserve any more endorsements, period. Why in the hell would anyone with any sense
want this man to be the President of the US. I hope Edwards' never endorses him. Unfortunately, he's too
nice and he might, he should know by now nice guys finish last.
Good luck for the rest of your life John Edwards with whatever you decide to do. You are my hero.

    • Posted By: GaryInManassas @ 02/02/2008 8:40:58 AM

You are making broad statements with no reasonable insight into your thought. It makes no sense, what you just said.

  • Posted By: Ganpat @ 02/01/2008 12:34:16 PM

Now WHY would a guy who keeps assuring us that he, and he alone, stands for CHANGE, for the overthrow of that old corrupt Washington system - why would that knight in shining armour, unsullied and pure as the driven snow - want endorsements from the guys in high places in - ahem ! - WASHINGTON ?

    Somebody tell me.

Otherwise I am going to conclude in my simplistic way that Mr Obama is just a slick smooth-talking conman, thanking de Lawd every night for all the idiots he fooled during the day.

    • Posted By: GaryInManassas @ 02/02/2008 8:38:37 AM

You apparently do not know the definition of endorsement, in political terms. So, he should commit political suicide and turn endorsements away from those who he wants to help bring together. Also, remember that you have a say in this too. If it bothers you so much, write your congressman and let him/her know how you feel.

So what's your take on the Move On endorsement of Obama?

  • Posted By: yoch3 @ 01/30/2008 4:23:42 PM

I am also annoyed with the fluffy approach of the media. However, that does not mean there is no substance behind Obama. He has very clearly laid out all of his policies on-line. You can also look up the voting records of Hillary vs. Barack. Experience? He has 4 years experience as a state senator and 2 years in the US Senate. She has 1 term in the U.S. Senate. Professional experience? He taught (part-time) for 10 years at the Univ. of Chicago Law school and was loved by the students for his passion for real people's problems. He was also out in the streets of Chicago working to improve struggling people's lives ??? and it is cold on those streets in the winter (I grew up there). She was a lawyer at the Rose law firm - an old Arkansas establishment ???white shoe??? powerhouse. It is wrong to say that he is not experienced - he is not establishment and she is. That is the reality. His advisors include some of the brightest people in the world. They are both new and establishment ??? spanning many points of view - not just the same old Washington. Hillary's people are just Clinton II - the repeat. Why should we go back to that? Let's remember what kind of leadership the Clinton's provided during a key period in their previous tenure. Between 1997-99 we heard nothing from Washington except Monica and blue dress and how do you define the word "sex" and all sorts of sleaze. Do you remember what else was happening in 1997-99? Bin Laden was busy planning 9/11 and getting his people in place inside this country. The dot-com bubble grew and then burst in 2000 leading to a recession. The Executive Branch, all of DC and the country were not paying attention to these problems - in large part - because of Bill's scandal. Barack is a brilliant and committed public servant. He is a principled young man/husband/father that will give a role model to American young people and families. He is truly a chance to change the country - not in a superficial way but in terms of the nuts and bolts of specific policies, programs and legislation. He will bring young people into the process and get all of us excited about participating in our democracy. Barack will be in the Oval Office focused on working for us to make this happen every day - not distracted by an ex-President sleazing around with interns outside her Oval office door. I was a Peace Corps vol. for 3 years in Africa and I worked in DC and overseas - I have seen the gridlock and the arrogance up close. Barack Obama has what it takes to break through the gridlock and improve our relationships around the world. I now live with my husband and son in Upstate NY and I see many people working two jobs to scrape by - often with no health insurance. I am convinced that Barack will work within the system to make real change happen for these people. Please re-consider before you let frustration with media push you into the arms of the Old-style Washington as usual. Good Luck everybody

    • Posted By: ThinkIndependent @ 02/01/2008 1:28:22 PM

Just some simple arithmetic. 4 years in State Senate + 2 years in Senate = 6 years. One term in Senate is 6 years and Hillary has 2 years plus one full term by your method of counting, which is 8 years. I may not even vote for Hillary. But let's not play this kind of cheap tricks with simple facts. You are pushing people who can think a little on their own to the other side.

    • Posted By: hillaryforpresident!!! @ 01/30/2008 5:10:44 PM

Again, you are speaking just like Obama, in vague terms. Why is it that his New Hampshire speeches lasted less than a half an hour compared to Hillary's at an hour and a half. Okay, thank you for prooving that he has a little bit of experience but didn't you mention that he will supposedly be wonderful in foreign policy? What experience does he have in that area? You also mentioned healthcare, have you watched the debates at all? If you want a Universal Healthcare plan you are a lot more likely to get it from Hillary.

Your argument to vote for Obama is pretty much condemn Hillary for the mistakes her husband made and elect Obama because he has made a few vague promises. Oh wait don't forget, young, independent, first-time voters in Iowa voted for him so let's all be sheep and jump on the band wagon too.

WHat did Hiliary do, when did she do Foriegn Policy, when she was the First Lady. If she had all these plans, for 8 years, why didn't she get this done then. Are you aware that they are making donations through the William Clinton Foundation to various organizations in order to buy there endorsement??? Is there anyone that can represent the people and not be bought or basically sell us out--wait Obama can!!!

If John supports Hillary, he will RUIN his reputation. He spent weeks and many debates complaining about her lobbyist ties and connections to corporations, the heatlh industry, insurance companies, etc.. For him to REVERSE course and support her for President says - she's PROMISED him a position in the White HOuse. Thats the ONLY reason he would do such a thing. If he does, he loses a LOT of supporters that regard him as a man of integrity.

If Edwards wants to endorse and possibly effect the outcome of Super Tuesday, he should do it on Saturday night or very early Sunday - and if he wants actual CHANGE in Washington, his best chance is to NOT endorse a woman that comes from a full 28 years of HISTORY in Washinton.

Do you really think that Edwards' endorsement would do Obama any good, besides he has enough
endorsements and has raised enough money, obviously his campaign can't handle money, since
it looks like they have spent mostly all of the Wall Street donated dough of well over 100 million dollars shameful. He just raised more money, have people lost their minds, giving all of their money to this idiot.

John Edwards is a good person, so he probably will endorse someone even though they don't deserve his
endorsement or his supporters. I for one will not be voting in the primary exceptme for John Edwards, unless his name doesn't appear on the ballot, if it doesn't , I will not vote. These two people along with the
media and many immature bloggers treated this man very unfairly, he didn't deserve this, he obviously doesn't have a mean bone in his body.

I am truly sorry he suspended his campaign, he would have made a great President, I liken his stepping
aside to the lost of RFK, we never really got to see what kind of President he would have been, a good one
I bet. But Ted kennedy has truly been disappointing, with that immigration reform bill, which I hope never sees the light of day again. People need obey the laws we already have, and the authority need to enforse the laws. Put the soldiers that in Iraq along the border, I think that would discourage these people from coming here illegally. Employers need pay a heavy fine for hiring illegals, or the people hiring them ought
    to go to prison.
Obama is the biggest farce this country has ever seen, he is not even true to himself, the hidden man,
I wouldn't trust him at all. The people voting for him, better start r reading more about him. So far he has
said nothing, including this last debate.

    As for McCain, who kC

  • Posted By: sean2002 @ 01/31/2008 6:39:57 PM

Who knows? There is no statistical way to actually determine how many votes are gained by endorsement. At best, Mr.Howard is only speculating something that can not be verified. But I do know if mainstream media keeps doing what they are doing now--giving Obama a free ride or so evidently being on his side while going very negative on Hillary, then Obama does have a chance.

Gee, another case of Clinton lying and then coming clean when he's caught? Imagine that! (Reference the Times story on shady dealings with Frank Giustra). Anyone who thinks that Hillary is exempt from Bill's lack of character needs to check out her commodity trading during his first presidential bid. THE CLINTONS WILL STINK UP THE WHITEHOUSE AGAIN! Actually, no they won't - McCain will beat HRC with ease, pulling independent voters, educated voters, and Dems. like me who value the integrity of those we put in the Oval Office.

I would have to agree that endorsements matter -- as do other connections. As more news comes out Bill Clinton's shady dealings, I think he will only continue to hurt Hillary -- see the recent headline story in the NY Times on his dealings with mining kingpin Frank Giustra. With things like this constantly percolating into the news, Clinton fatigue seems to to be turning into CCFS -- Chronic Clinton Fatigue Syndrome.

Let us conservatives do our own homework and vote for the candidate that has the longest most continual stand on the issues dear to us. The media and big money controllers do not elect our president, We Do.
Let's vote for the most conservative candidate whose used the least dollars in his campaign and send the message to the world that in this country, the people's voice is still more important than big money.
We each get 1 vote, mine is for pro-life, pro-family, anti-illegal immigration, ALAN KEYES. Check him out on www.alankeyes.com and vote with your own heart.
