Once again, we're hearing from a 'guru' who's only viewing one facet of the gem of life. There's no disagreement with Ornish on his stance on fruits and vegetables, but to keep pushing himself, and his 'approaches' to now covering everything that's challenging medicine, there's got to be a stopping point. His dietary regimen does not save all who go to his "clinic," by any means. Let's get real, here, Dean!

I was inspired by Dr. Ornish's books on preventing cardio vascular diseases unfortunately after doing heart bypass operation at 42. I adopted the lifestyle Dr. Ornish proposed by quitting smoking and meat, eating fruits and veg, everyday walking, stretching and yoga. Ten years after, I am still enjoying this healthy lifestyle change and enjoying life. Dr. Ornish is a health guru.

The harmonic convergence of Dean Ornish's compelling recitation of Judah Folkman's accomplishments
brings me back to 1970 when my son was Dr. Folkman's patient with a rare cancer of the lining of the blood-vessels. Four years later - in 1974 - I remarried and with my husband, a retired American ambassador - we formed The Franzheim synergy Trust and began annual funding of a Folkman-administered cancer
research fellowship in my son's memory.

The harmonic convergence of Dean Ornish's compelling recitation of Judah Folkman's accomplishments (Newsweek, Jan. 30,2008) brings me back to 1970 when my son was Dr. Folkman's patient with a rare cancer of the lining of the blood-vessels. Four years later - in 1974 - I remarried and with my husband, a retired American ambassador - we formed The Franzheim synergy Trust and began annual funding of a Folkman-administered cancer research fellowship in my son's memory.

In 1977 - The Franzheim synergy Trust learned of a not-yet graduated medical school student - Dean Ornish - who applied to us for a sabbatical grant to write his first book. At public events I have attended Dean Ornish has credited our Trust with contributing critical assistance to his career. I have always responded with some version of: "If it wasn't us - it would have been another entity - because anyone who knows you has got to see that you are unstoppable!"

Dean Ornish's account of Judah Folkman's accomplishments brings much of the bittersweet past in focus. Thank God the two men's work has and continues to bring well-being to millions of people worldwide!
