Has anyone read the Politico.com article comparing Michelle Obama with Jackie Kennedy? It is soooo sad that the pro-Obama camp esp the white elite liberals are trying to re-create Kennedy???s Camelot through the Obamas. Isn???t this going backwards? To use white to paint over black? Why can???t the Obamas be portrayed as who they are and be proud of their race? Michelle Obama should not be flattered to be a replica of Jackie as they are two very different personalities. Jackie is inimitable, Michelle should create and find her own image. Similarly, Barrack Obama and the press should not be comparing Obama with JFK and MLK. If the Obamas depend on such comparisons to win an election, they may fool some of the people but not all of the people.

Newsweek ,like all the other media is clearly supporting Obama no doubt about that. This article by Alter speaks for itself. What is surprising is that the bloggers at this site are mostly pro-Clinton. If blogger denisemalone07 thinks that the pro Clinton comments are sickening, wait till he visits other websites like Politico.com, The Talking Point and Huffington Post. They are much more vicious, mean-spirited and full of irrational hatred for Clinton.

To Mr Alter and the pro-Obama media, you cannot call yourselves true journalists. You are as bad as the right wing Fox News if not worse. I was never a subscriber to FOX but I change my mind after the bias in MSNBC, CNN during this whole campaign season. I now subscribe to FOX so that I can make my own judgement from the information from both the extreme left and right.

Mr. Alter is definitely Obama supporter. I saw him on Charlie Ross twice defending Obama. If you read his articles carefully, they without doubt support Obama's candidacy.. I can sense before Super Tuesday all Newsweek website will turn into an outright Obama marketing campaign. No wonder Obama has the momentum. Everywhere I turn, mainstream media has suddenly become a for Obama echo chamber. So, if Obama really wins I will not be surprised. If you are in a race, mainstream media is on your side, which is like free advertisement 24/7. If you are in a race , maintream media is against you (in Hillary's case), then even million dollars you spend will be a waste, because nobody can counter mainstream media's omnipresent power. In the end, if Obama really wins, I don't think mainstream media--the pundits and those opinionators--needs to write any analysis on Why Obama Wins. They should just admit--surely he should win considering how much effort we have made to ensure his victory.

LOL......................I have been LMAO at the recent postings...........

Sometimes you can do such an "overkill" until your statement or point of view becomes less effective. But in all fairness, it will only be a matter of time before the media make some points spoken of a huge issue. Things are starting to circulate now. Go to this website and check out this pic

    Ihttp://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1662530_1446035,00.html

Although I am a HUGE Clinton supporter, I hope Obama's camp can show that the pic isn't authentic. I don't think Obama is the most qualified however, as stated by another person on another Blog, he has given young people something to believe in. I don't want to see his campaign crushed. If the pic is real, I believe a lot of people would have a hard time to vote for someone who's patriotism is questioned and in my opinion, this is what the pic reflect.

I think it is safe to say that the recent postings are not Obama fans...............point very well taken. Now let's move on.

It's a real picture, but you need the background. They were playing the national anthem, not saying the Pledge of Allegiance. If you watch people at any sports event, maybe 20% do the "hand over heart" thing during the anthem.

Thank you for the info! You seem to be fairly level headed. and your attitude seems to show that it is no big deal, I hope most people who view it shares your attitude..

I wish I had your confidence in Obama. I fear that if he is the Democratic Nominee, the Republicans will have a field day with him. I just have strong doubt that the Democrats can win with him being the nominee.
I strongly questionwhy the media and republicans have been beating up Clinton yet giving Obama a free ride with almost everything. The only logical explanation I can come up with is that they want to do everything in their power to turn people against the Clinton's and to ensure that Obama is the nominee. Why is this? In the game of politics no one is going to give you a free ride WITHOUT an agenda.

I know you disagree and in the event that he is the nominee I hope that you are correct = -)

WE COMPLETELY SUPPORT SENATOR AND TWO TIME FIRST LADY HILLARY CLINTON!who has graciously with stood all the biased media attacks on a white woman, (wich is disgusting)the media fighting obamas battles for him because he has no substance and merit! she is HANDS DOWN the stronger candidate WHO IS ABLE AND PROVEN SHE CAN FIGHT THE BATTLES AND WILL GET THINGS DONE FOR ALL AMERCIANS NOT JUST BLACK VOTERS ( like obama camp)! Who else on earth has tolerated the unbelievable lies and attacks and spins then Hillay and still she fights on for the middle class, she takes her licks and keeps going un like obama who keeps hiding behind the likes of oprah and now old crazy guy teddy. Who cares what caroline says. She now has clout? for what?

The Kennedys have been nothing but disgraceful scandles in the last 25 years, relatives accused of murders, rapes etc and that gives the Kennedy name clout? Don't think so... Ted Kennedy is now go headed for a disgraceful end. The Massachusetts senator has been caught in a sneaky plot to kill a clean-energy project in Nantucket Sound. Seems he doesn't want to see wind turbines from his waterfront estate. "Don't you realize -- that's where I sail!" he famously said.
The Obama campaign has criticized Hillary Clinton's candidacy as another example of dynastic politics. But now that Obama is playing adopted son of the Kennedy clan, that argument falls apart. Kennedy mystique Is so much JUST hot air. OBAMA IS A JOKE

Hillary will say anything to get back in WH. Just look at Florida primary that she agreed to boycott together with all rivals, she just celebrated a Pyrrhic victory there with vow to fight for seating the delegates to the Convention later. If she can't her own pledge, why should we believe all she said in this campaign ? The Clintons are proven liars and that is the issue.

      • Posted By: frjiles1 @ 01/31/2008 10:15:25 AM

Wyl5326 - Totally beg to differ. I feel that the MAIN issue is who is most qualifed to whip this country into shape.

NO DOUBT that person is Hillary Clinton!!

        • Posted By: jaymiller @ 01/31/2008 2:18:36 PM

I respectfully disagree - a good manager does not automatically make a good leader. The main issue is not who is most qualified to oil and turn the crank of our existing broken processes, but who is most qualified to lead the country we all love so much. And that person is Barack Obama.

          • Posted By: frjiles1 @ 01/31/2008 2:52:47 PM

I respectfully and totally disagree with you...................however, I am very curious, please tell me why you feel he is the most qualified to lead the country. What is it in his profile OTHER THAN THE POINT that he can deliver an excellent speech, leads you to believe that he is the one to lead this country.....just curious...because in all honesty, I haven't been able to find anything, Although his speeches are great and full of hope, I don't hear anything else. I haven't been able to find any unbiased accounts of his political record to show that he is ready. And with his recent rhetorics, I am wondering if he is mature enough.

His accomplishments are readily available from multiple sources. He passed legislation working with Republican senator Jim Talent giving tax breaks to gas stations that installed E85 pumps. He passed legislation working with another Republican senator, Tom Coburn, to allow anybody to go online and see how tax dollars were being allocated. He introduced the Stop Fraud Act (scheduled to be debated) in April 07, penalizing companies for mortgage fraud and introducing protections for low income home buyers. In Illinois, Obama sponsored and passed a bill requiring the videotaping of police interrogations (imagine how hard it would be to get a bill like that passed; it passed the Illinois senate with a 35-0 vote). He has introduced the Patriot Employer Act to give tax credits to companies that keep their jobs on our shores. In Illinois, he created and passed an income tax credit for poor families and made it permanent three years later. He worked with Coburn again to introduce amendments to prevent FEMA no bid contracts. In Illinois, he worked with Paul Simon to pass campaign finance laws bannin the personal use of campaign money by legistlators and gifts from lobbyists.

But most importantly, he has demonstrated time and again the ability to get people moving and get things done, even when not politically expedient for them. This is why I believe he is best suited to lead this country.

              • Posted By: frjiles1 @ 01/31/2008 4:51:48 PM

Thank you for taking the time to respond. And your points are SO well taken. This is a situation in which we will agree to disagree. Thank you for the info however, I couldn't find any significant unbiased info on him except from his website. Maybe, I will look a little harder.

You may good points but I TOTALLY disagree that he is is best suited to lead this country. Although, I must agree, he is able able to get the people "moving". I just don't believe in him and I honestly, haven't seen where he is a true leader. I know you will disagree with me but of course this is something we will definitely disagree on.

You vote for your candidate and I will vote for mine and may the best and most qualified person win!

Thank you for being so polite and I am certain that his camp appreciate your loyalty and vote of confidence....................but I still gotta say......................GO HILLARY!!!! =-)

                • Posted By: jaymiller @ 02/01/2008 5:52:40 PM

frjiles1 - Hillary is without question the second best candidate out there in any party. :) Let's hope the primary maintains a civil tone and that representative democracy is allowed to run its course. Good luck to you.

        • Posted By: dewcooper @ 01/31/2008 2:25:07 PM

The MAIN issue is who can defend the borders of the US (the presidents ONLY responsibility under the Constitution). Neither Clinton or Obama is prepared or qualified to be commander in chief. No doubt about THAT.

  • Posted By: herbiemax @ 02/01/2008 5:04:55 PM

why is the press glamorising this? If they were talking about a young woman and man today who had a child and the father abandons the mother and the child in 2 years then the mother abandons the child leaving it up to her parents to raise, and then a private school gives him an education that his mother did not pay for , the press would be talking about them as useless . Isn't it amazing that a person that portrays Hillary's It Takes A Village concept is getting all the praise and all she got for writing it was criticizm?

  • Posted By: sean2002 @ 01/31/2008 4:47:59 PM

Even though I am more leaning towards Obama, I have to say that without questions that Newsweek is for Obama and against Hillary. From a jouralism standpoint, this is not professional. It is very simple to figure out Newsweek's stand, just by viewing Newsweek's website, there always more positive news/writing about Obama and even the headlines concerning Clintons are often negative. This is totally not fair. Newsweek has made their minds about Clinton and they don't want to open their minds again. Newsweek should announce publicly that they are for Obama and against Clinton.

    • Posted By: ctynes @ 02/01/2008 5:03:27 AM

I could not agrree with you more. The hypocrisy is almost too much to take. If you support a candidate, then you must qualify every remark you make with that statement! Thank you sean2002.

      • Posted By: lamm01 @ 02/01/2008 4:38:08 PM

It is sad to say however, it is not only Newsweek who has shown nothing but adulation, hypocrisy and blatant favoritism towards Obama. It has all been rather sickening and only enforces my determination to vote and support Ms. Clinton.

When Bill clinton critisized Obama Iraq record, he specifically called his iraq stand as "fairytale"...media started quoting it out of context and pushed the story that Bill called Obama run for presidency as the biggeste fairytale an then oabam campaign jumped on it and made a bigger deal out of it.

What about obama voting for the extension of patriot act, what about the vote where he voted against limiting credit card rates to 30%, what about Obama saying "100 present votes were just some of the 4000 votes he casted in satate senate. Look at my all the votes other then the 100 present votes".....this is when Edwards tell him that "isn't this exactly what you are doing to both hillary and me. Debating out few votes and ignoring all teh other good that we have done"

Media won't talk about it. But they will, oh yeah they will when the general elections are here. Media looks for stories. Right now Clinton bashing and Obama coronation gets them rating. Year later Obama bashing will get them those ratings. just wait and watch.

    MSJENTAY:

Thanks for telling us, after a slew of angry vitriolic about "lying, philandering, power-hungry politicians", "the bad [who] would cheat and win every time", how no-one wants philandering Bill tiptoeing around the White House - thanks sooo much for telling us with snow-fresh, dewy-eyed innocence that Clinton supporters, presumably unlike you, are jaded folk, full of angry gripes.....

    Thanks !!

As for cynicism, may I just, in my jaded way, point out that it was OBAMA who introduced race into the campaign?

His political hit boys seized on a perfectly correct and sane Clinton acknowledgement that President Lyndon Johnson played a big part in desegregating America with his important legislation. the Barackites claimed, with utterly nauseating hypocrisy, that Clinton was thus denigrating the achievement of Martin Luther King.

That is soulless cynicism indeed, the politics of the gutter.

To win, the Barackites need Latino votes in masses. They ain't gonna get them. Eat your hearts out, Barakites !!!!

    • Posted By: msjentay @ 02/01/2008 4:20:10 PM

  • Posted By: emmarcee @ 02/01/2008 4:09:21 PM

Did Alter write this to drown Barack? I am starting to suspect that.

selma speech my brothers: What happened in Selma, Alabama and Birmingham...stirred the conscience of the nation. It worried folks in the White House who said, "You know, we're battling Communism. How are we going to win hearts and minds all across the world, if right here in our own country...we're not observing the ideals set fort in our Constitution? We might be accused of being hypocrites."??

So the Kennedys decided we're going to do an airlift. We're going to go to Africa and start bringing young Africans over to this country and give them scholarships to study so they can learn what a wonderful country America is.

This young man named Barack Obama got one of those tickets and came over to this country. He met this woman whose great great-great-great-grandfather had owned slaves; but she had a good idea there was some craziness going on because they looked at each other and they decided that we know that the world as it has been it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child.

There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.

So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don't tell me I'm not coming home to Selma, Alabama. I'm here because somebody marched. I'm here because you all sacrificed for me.

I stand on the shoulders of giants.

What we learned from this article: Two white women can sneek into an African American audience unobserved, and JFK vandalised government property...

Other than that, this is just another Alter for Obama piece, saying much but adding nothing. How much crediility can we really give someone who supported Ted Kennedy for Pres?

    • Posted By: serdahely@email.com @ 01/31/2008 10:55:24 AM

Caroline clearly put much thought and heart in to her decision. Whether or not you are agree with it, is it necessary for you to be so petty and mean? You represent what drives people away from expressing themselves and from being heard in the political process. I wish that you would find a way to engage without putting people down and being so arrogantly cynical.

      • Posted By: dewcooper @ 01/31/2008 1:29:33 PM

If Caroline put much though and heart into her decision, we will never know from Alter. The article does not state WHY she made this decisions or SPECIFICALLY what it was about Obama that made her endorse him (the facts). My point is that there were only two real facts presented in this article. The rest is just fluff...

        • Posted By: serdahely@email.com @ 02/01/2008 2:49:28 PM

The article says that she read his position papers. How many of the candidates' position papers have you read? The article was about the process of her coming to support Sen. Obama, not the specific policies with which she agrees. Perhaps to you, the process by which people decide to support a political candidate is fluff. Again, there is no need to be so arrogant because to others process is important. You could open your mind to the possibility that there may be value in another person's opinion.

  • Posted By: tomdavie @ 02/01/2008 2:15:12 PM

Obama is a media invention. Enhanced by speech writers and Teddy Kennedys recent decision to SPITE the Clintons. Thats all it is. Once the media turns on him, Obamas big HYPE parade will be over.

  • Posted By: emmarcee @ 02/01/2008 1:50:21 PM

My last post is a cut and paste, but I think people need to look into it.

  • Posted By: emmarcee @ 02/01/2008 1:48:30 PM

Does anyone else find the time line interesting? The airlift was in August of 1960 and Obama was born in August of 1961. So his father made it over here entered college, met a woman got married and had a child all within 12 months. And to think after all this effort he bolts and goes back to Africa. Also interesting, read Obama's speech in Selma earlier this year, he attributes his birth to the marchers in Selma in 1965 but he would have be 4 by then. Sounds like politics as usual to me, yet everyone is still bashing the Clintons.
