Why doesn't Newsweek come out with a cover of Obama with a halo over his head? I so glad for you writers at the magazine. This hagiography that you folks have been writing since Iowa about the saintly senator can now be relighted with the glow of Camalot. Does anyone else find it ironic that this agent of change would reach our and accept the endorsements of Sens. Kennedy and Kerry, two of the most polarizing politicians in the Senate? Doesn't sound like a new approach to me.

It seems to me the "Africa Airlift" was used by both Nixon and Kennedy for political reason. Why should you believe the spin of Kennedy over Nixon? Oh, I forgot, you're an "objective" member of the mainstream media.

I never met John Kennedy nor was I alive when he was President. However, I will say that my grandfather met him and my grandfather is one of the greatest men that I have ever known. My grandfather swore my John F Kennedy and inspired me to take up the same ideals that the two of them shared. For a while I argued whether or not Barack and JFK had any similarities, however, after hearing of this endorsement, I'll take it from someone who actually knew the man that I have been so inspired by my entire life. I'll take it from the horses mouth. I wish Mr Obama all the best.

Barak is no Jack Kennedy. Caroline says in the video that others have told her he reminds them of his father, not that he reminds me of my dad. She was too little to remember her father that much. Robert's kids on the other hand were older and said we need the Clintons and they are like their dad and Jack.
They were much older when they lost their father. I was 16 when John was assassinated. I knew he had 20 years in the house and senate in Washington before becoming President and his father had world wide contacts that helped him also. Obama has none of that experience. We are in a mess because of lack of experience and arrogance. Hillary will have my vote and all my friends or we will no vote in the general election. That is a trend I am hearing from my large groups

I respect the Kennedys and their support of Obama, but I just can't wrap my head and arms around him as a candidate. To me, Obama is a preacher of sorts. He talks in lofty jargon, but his message leaves me with little feeling other than "we can reach for more" or "we can be better." With Hillary, I feel a real plan for the future. She offers me something solid and thoughtful that I can grasp. That's why I support Hillary - for the future and dreams she has mapped out, not for some altruistic grandure.

Obviously you have not compared their Senate records. He produced more and high quality bills to her so little with longer time and parochial bills. He got us safeguards on nukes while she produced Hall of Fame center in locality. He got us ethics reform, she helps poor got treated for health problems - a service any Tammany Hall politician can do better and more.

How sweet, and this has what to do with being able to lead the most powerful country in the world. Is the Obama family going to make a name for itself by getting handouts from the Kennedy's forever? And if Obama is so much for change and a new direction, why all these articles about history and the definately old school politics of the Kennedy's supporting Obama. Will the real Obama please stand up, please stand up!

  • Posted By: FlAdemocrat @ 01/30/2008 10:25:34 PM

Galter, yes look at his record, and you will find little substance to it. He is a well programmed candidate just like George Bush. His claim to fame in Illinois is that he missed hundreds of votes while a senator. He ran for the US Senate against a fellow that even the Republicans did not want. He won in a year that in Illinois if Atilla the Hun ran as a Democrat he would have won because of a corrupt Republican Governor. If one listens to the likes of you, Obama is the second coming, I find that hard to believe. He is just as much of an insider politician as anyone else in the race. He has just been programmed to tell you what you want to hear. His history does not reflect his current speeches.

    • Posted By: wyl5326 @ 01/31/2008 10:14:39 AM

It is you who apparently don't know how to evaluate their Senate records. Barack produced more in quantity and superior quality too in a shorter time than Hillary. Barack co-authored the safeguarding of nuke materials in comparison to Hillary's parochial bill to establish a Hall of Fame building. Then she bragged about helping people with health problems - a typical service for Tammany Hall politicians.

Please provide a unbias website address that confirms Obam's record and Clinton's record.

I would LOVE to see it. Thanks!.

I agree that it's not fair to dislike Hillary because she's a "cold" woman. But that's not my problem with her. I'm sick of seeing my country run by the same privileged white families. Hillary knows nothing about my life or the problems that affect me. She's spent her whole life grooming a political career and it seems like she will do or say anything just to win.
Obama was raised by a single mother in an average household. He's gotten as far as he has because he's intelligent, hard working, ambitious and determined. All character traits that I respect and look for in a president. And all the arguments that he doesn't have the experience don't sway me whatsoever. Because in every position he's held, whether it be at the state or federal level, he's made positive changes. (Far more than anyone can say for Hillary and her healthcare disaster). And I don't expect him to be able to fix everything on his own. But I want a president that will fill his cabinet and the supreme court with others that share the his ideals. And Obama's ideals are the ones that truly resonate with me.

Honestly, why do you think the Republican candidates are attacking Obama but mostly leaving Clinton alone? Republican voters, as a rule, hate Clinton, and they would absolutely love to field a candidate against her. She's probably the one Democratic candidate who they believe they can win against this year. I have no problems with Clinton as a candidate or as a person, but a Republican candidate (especially if it's McCain) would have a much easier time running against her than against Obama.

HILARY IS THE MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE, MOST COMPETANT, AND KNOWS WASHINGTON INSIDERS, AND BILL CLINTON WAS THE BEST PRESIDENT EVER...... CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT OBAMA HAS ACTUALLY DONE ?????WHAT CAN HE DO IN IRAQ?

    • Posted By: soccerstar08 @ 01/31/2008 6:32:25 AM

Hillary is too shady! She lies and she doesnt play by the rules since in the primaries she like.. went to some and won there even when all the Democrats made a pact to not go campaign there because the primaries came too early! shes just in it to win it at all costs, and then if shes president it will all be different. and hillary is FOR the war! i think the war is bullshit and obama opposes it as well so finally our troops can come hoem!!

    • Posted By: Dems2008 @ 01/30/2008 11:42:45 PM

ROSEBUD - when you type in all caps, it comes across as yelling (much like Hillary). When you misspell both Hillary's name and the word 'competent,' you tend to lose the credibillity one needs to call someone competent. And I can't speak for anyone else, but in my opinion, if you know too many Washington insiders, you probably cannot be trusted.
Obama has worked on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to ensure that the nuclear weapons of the former Soviet Union are secured and kept out of the hands of terrorists. He has worked to bring about ethics reforms (doing so very successfully in the Illinois Senate, and working to do the same in the U.S. Senate). Hillary and her supporters keep talking about "35 years of experience." To my knowledge, she has only been a Senator four years more than Obama. Before that, of course she was First Lady, which I don't think really counts much for experience. During that time or any time before, I don't believe she held any public office, so what is all this experience she keeps talking about?. During all that time, Obama was working as a community organizer in Chicago and then as an Illinois state senator. The one thing Hillary tried to do as First Lady was get universal healthcare, and it was shot down because she refused to work with both sides of the aisle or compromise in any way. That's the very problem we have with the current administration. So - 1) not really much more real experience than Obama, if any; 2) no demonstrated ability to achieve results; 3) no evidence other than words that she will change anything at all in Washington, and 4) Decidedly less ability to inspire people from every walk of life the way Obama does.
I think this is what the Kennedys see, and if there is any benefit to being Washinton insiders, the ability to see these differences would be one of those benefits.

I also agree with what other people said.. Obama does seem different, and no im not talking about color. Like the others are just saying things so they can get in the white house.. and then booom.. we just elected ANOTHER George Walker Bush into the white house! but i truly think that obama says things that he will actually do.. america needs change, and out of all the others i think he'll actually bring it

I'm only 14 but I want Obama to win. Hillary seems too shady.. like I hear she's been like not following the rules to some primaries.. like the Florida one she was the only one campaigning there when the Democrats apparently made like a pact to not campaign there because the primary was too early? And I've seen some of their debates and Hillary.. something about her i dont like, even though im also a woman. so vote for obama!

Do you believe in your sixth sense ? or gut felling ? I feel that Obama is the one that can bring change / new things/ new ways to this country. I really do. Something about him seems to be very different from others .

Do you believe in sixth sense ? or gut feeling ? that's what I feel about Obama. I feel that he can deliver change . I feel that he 's the one. I might be wrong. But hey look back, have we been right with Bush ?

Anyone but Hillary.....is nearly how I feel. The mere fact she will DO ANYTHING to become President STAND ALONE is scary enough...reminds me of some of the dictators in other countries....I know all elections are competitive, but I really do feel, Hillary would do anything to win no matter WHAT it was. Bill and Hillary had many years to bring the "changes" she speaks of, but, didn't.....and won't. Also, you can handle yourself professionally, even in competitions, which she doesn't seem to be able to do. What will she do when she gets stressed out with real world problems? Cry? Start calling people names and demeaning them? And, although I am not a Democrat, some are right....it will make rocks, trees, animals, and humans want to vote against her she is so repulsive!!!! :) And for those who support her "government healthcare", ask anyone in Canada about theirs and you will find out, its NOT free, the care stinks, you wait MONTHS to see a doctor and YEARS for surgeries and many die during that wait. Do some research on it, anything that sounds too good to be true, always is.

I admired Obama. I belived in him. There are somthing about Obama that make my heart beats and to have hope again of a new Amerca. We our family are fully support him. We don't trust the Clintons.

Right on, Eddiewhere. Beautifully said. Exactly right. Aside from Clinton's smug air of entitlement to the Presidency, which is ridiculous, Hillary and Bill's example of a more subtle use of the race card and her complete disregard for answering tough questions with the truth, makes her a truly dishonest candidate. She and her co-President husband are admirable for their accomplishments, but their "win at all costs" methods
means Americans could suffer through 4 years of hucksterism instead of integrity. America needs integrity now, and the Clintons don't demonstrate that good judgment or character.

You know what job Obama would be good at? He is inspiring and he can motivate people to get out and vote. Maybe he could take Howard Dean's job and get Democrats to the polls this time.

    • Posted By: Dems2008 @ 01/30/2008 10:47:39 PM

Obama IS getting Dems to the polls this time. See all those votes he's getting? Truly inspiring.

You sure they aren't cross over republicans?

        • Posted By: Dems2008 @ 01/30/2008 11:49:59 PM

Absolutely sure. I was a Precinct Captain for the Iowa caucuses, and all but one of Obama's supporters were previously registered as either Dems or Indies. The only Repub in our group was an old softball teammate of mine, who said he really likes Obama. I know he meant it because he signed up to be a delegate.
I would think most Republican crossovers would vote for Hillary. They know how polarizing she is and how she would fire up the Republican base to vote against her in November, no matter who their nominee is.

Caroline wants to be a benefactress, the way her father was! That's fine. How carefully and quietly Obama courted the Kennedys and got them away from the Clintons and in the end used Ted to whip Hillary! And media's darling is pure as driven snow?! I feel sorry for Hillary and Bill

  • Posted By: Darnell01 @ 01/30/2008 11:21:13 PM

Obama's father is dead. He died in 1982. Also, stop calling him Osama. Respect his name as he would respect yours.

    • Posted By: Bhambelle @ 01/30/2008 11:29:44 PM

Who called him Osama, other than Teddy Kennedy? I haven't seen that posted here.
