I'm very disapointed the LAPD did, when you need a policeman it takes forever.
Why should this phony woman get all this attention, all it is more publicity for the studios.

kdot2008 - if you are truly an ER nurse for the mentally ill I feel sorry for those who come in seeking help. I can honestly say if you were working in my ER you would be fired for your attitude!
To the rest - I am glad to see how many of you are educated about mental illness. In todays society mental illness is not looked down upon as severely as in past decades. Bi-polar disorder, or as it was previously know Manic depression, tends to show up with a primary break in sanity about early to mid twenties. Males tend to have earlier and more severe breaks than women. In the case of Britney she was showing typical manic and depressive behavior for quite awhile now. Many with Bi-polar disorder abuse alcohol or drugs in an effort to self medicate. Alcohol is a depressant so when one is in a manic stage alcohol actually makes them feel less out of things. When in a depressive state drugs like Ritialin and Adderall help them feel not so low. It is a vicious cycle. Eventually the symptoms become to severe to be able to hide them such as hearing voices, going days with out sleep, flights of ideas, spending large amounts of money, and risky sexual behavior. I am sure we can all look back at what has been published about Britney and recognize her escalating behavior from just after she and JT broke off their relationship to today. Hers was a long and slow decline until recently. There are so many treatment options now days that if she wants to get better she can move on to a normal healthy life. If she is compliant with her treatment plan she will be able to get her life back on track with out to much disruption in her day to day life. It is a long road and we will see her fail many times before she will settle in to accepting her illness and deciding to be healthy and happy,
She needs a supportive family and some peace and quiet to heal. I am glad her parents are getting rid of some of her more toxic friends like Sam Lufti! Ridding her life of those who used her and even when she was obviously ill and continued to spur her on into more and more odd and damaging behavior. I guess when you hit bottom you truly learn who your real friends are and who loved you for you and not your celebrity or money.

    Good luck Britney and family

I just hope she gets the help she needs. I feel bad for her and her kids. Like Julia Roberts said, I've wished I could bring her home and nurture her and her boys. Clearly she needs some medical care to get her in a more stable mindset. But then I think she needs somebody to take care of her with no alterior motives. Hopefully, her family will step up, though I think they're trying to salvage their image as much as save their daughter. I hope I'm wrong about that though.

I was raised in L.A. The parties are non-stop for young good looking kids. I was a body builder and ran with the behind-the -camera crowd. I got invitations, airline tickets, and rides to big parties. I was chased by gay and straight celebrities with more money and drugs than I thought possible; the draw for a kid from the Valley was constant. My parents kept a constant vigil, but I made many a party in the Hollywood Hills, ski resorts, and Beverly Hills mansions - and I wasn't a celebrity! After I moved out of state, my brother and I were constantly being sent airline tickets for long weekends; it was a big deal for a kid without much money.

My point is this: the celebrities must get invitations daily and without adult, sober supervision, they can go downhill quickly. I'm not a fan of Britney Spears, but it appears that she has melted down - she may very well have a mental rpoblem; drug use and mental illness are far from mutually exclusive.

LAPD is probably the best police department in the country; they did want they believed was necessary to get Spears to a hospital without anybody getting injured. How short our memories are that we forgot what happened when another celebrity was trying to out run the photographers in Paris.

I hope Ms. Spears gets the help she needs, and rebounds. It would be a big help if she were left alone, but that's not going to happen. I wonder if she has any "real" friends that will step-up?

Well said....What does it say about our society that we even know about these things? Or even that there is a board to discuss it...(and I'm ON IT !!)

Thanks for posting back to me. As you can see, my post was deleted. It's too bad since I actually stood up to her. Congrats on 18 years of marriage. I have been researching comments like kdots for the past 2 days and I cried the vast majority of yesterday. I was shaking so much that I almost called my doctor. It's scary that a health professional would like to drill a hole in mine and my son's head. Today I am not crying. I realize that these people who say these awful things are the ones who are dangerous.

    • Posted By: sleepyalice @ 02/03/2008 7:09:00 PM

Good for you. Both for realizing kdot is the one who is dangerous, and for being willing to look for help if you need it...
It's ironic that I tripped on this site while waiting for my own research paper to print...the subject is :" The Misconceptions and Abuses of a Bipolar Diagnosis".
Remember that many people today use "bipolar" as a blanket term for any number of mental health issues... few actually understand the disease, how many levels there are, or even what it actually means...
      You're living it...but you can't teach everyone.

If I am correct, less than 1 percent of those with mental illness murder their children or parents.

    • Posted By: sleepyalice @ 02/03/2008 6:57:14 PM

Don't bother trying to educate kdot...There are times that ignorance is best ignored.

  • Posted By: psychmajor @ 02/03/2008 6:25:30 PM

Tinkerbell, read the top of my post, this kdot person said that stuff. She's a nurse!!!! I have bipolar and and so does my son. People like her are the inspiration for my paper.

    • Posted By: sleepyalice @ 02/03/2008 6:41:04 PM

      psychmajor,
Kudos...I've been married to a bipolar man for 18 years... it hasn't been easy, but opinions like kdot's actually frighten me. (a little Mengele anyone?).
Oh, by the way, kdot...I am a nurse. I find it very hard to believe you've ever been near an NCLEX.

Britney is a woman of legal age living in a "free" country. What gives anyone the right to "assess" her mental health involuntarily. She has commited no crime I am aware of which gives any SMART (Systemwide Mental Health Assessment Team ((what a laugh))) the right to use these Big Brother tactics. Who will be next!!! Politcal opponents of the LiBS? The comment of 100 people involuntarily taken into custody per day is a travesty and a really scary thought. Who has authorized the new Gustopo. SMART tactic to get rid of "undesireables"

think of your best friend-if he/she were suffering from something that was causing themselves harm but they wouldn't admit it or seek help for this problem, how would you as their friend help them to get the help that they need to not seriously hurt themselves or even kill themselves? your best bet is to seek help from the authorities, whether that is in the form of SMART or just an ER placing your friend on a psychiatric hold the involuntary hold that you seem to find so offense is the best way to get help for your friend and possibly save their life. it is not like people are randomly being held and then dissapearing into thin air, we are talking about sick people that could be a danger to themselves or others.these holds are done on the basis of third party information that is used in combination with the information that the authorities get from the person being considered for a hold. its not like the police or a SMART team is just going to knock on someone's door that they personally find offensive or don't agree with and place them on a hold. these holds are used as a last choice for friends and family members of people that are ill andin need of help but won't get the help themselves because for one reason or another they think nothing is wrong. whether briteny has bpd or not she is obviously ill and in need of help she won't admit to. i commend her family and those close to her for finally doing the right thing and using all available resources to get her help.

I believe anyone with a mental illness or bi polar disorder should be institutionalized. These are the people who murder their children and parents. Just my opinion

kdot, I understand that you are a nurse. Allow me to tell you a bit about myself. I could read when I was two years old. When I was 13 I won the national championship in trampoline; placing first in both preliminary and final rounds. I have won numerous athletic and academic awards. As well as playing first chair flute and first chair trumpet in my high school band. I can play 8 wind instruments, 2 percussion instruments, and now I am working on the string family. Primarily violin, but electric and bass guitar as well. I have complete administrative control of a successful HVAC business owned by my dad, who took my advice and started his own business. I am a full-time student, and a mother of three wonderful children. Let me tell you about my son. He is 9 years old. He always stands up for the other children on the playground when they are picked on. He plays piano, electric and acoustic guitars, and will get to play the recorder with his classmates in the spring concert. He can draw much better than most adults. When he grows up he wants to be a police officer so that he can help people to be safe and happy.
I thought you needed this information because I was hoping you could refer us to the institution that best fits our needs. We both have bipolar disorder. Where do you propose we do and what do you propose would become of my two girls, who don't have bipolar. My ex-husband has bipolar as well. I have no criminal record, not even a traffic ticket, so you should know that, too. I am doing a research paper on discrimination against the mentally ill, and this material is priceless! Thanks for the quotes! I am sure all of the professors in the health-care field will have fun making you the butt of their jokes. Of course, I will rearrange your posts to make you sound as inept to be a nurse as possible, but you put it out there. Where did you buy that nursing certificate? E-Bay? No one educated in health care would recommend locking up an entire population, nor suggest drilling holes in the heads of persons with mental illness. (this is the most sadistic thing I have read, your parents must be so proud of you!) This reminds me of Adolph Hitler's philosophy of a superior race. How twisted you are to suggest this form of treatment (genocide). Perhaps you should check yourself in for examination.
Just tell me where my son and I should check in.

kdot, you call yourself a nurse? I am a college student doing a thesis on discrimination against the mentally ill. Guess what!! Since you are a nurse, you are a credible source. You can revel in the fact that your backwards comments will help me get a great grade on the paper, and it will be exposed to a group of scholars who will surely get a great laugh out of this for a great amount of time. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I have won numerous academic rewards in school, and when I was 13 I won a national championship in trampoline. I placed first in both preliminary and final competitions. I can play 8 wind instruments, and I am now working on the string family. Primarily the violin, but also the electric guitar and bass guitar. I am a full-time student majoring in psychology. I work full-time at the HVAC company my dad I started when I was 19. I am in charge of everything but servicing furnaces and air conditioners. I am also the mother of three wonderful children, but let me tell you about my son. He is nine years old, plays electric and acoustic guitar, piano, and will begin playing the recorder soon. He is an amazing baseball player. He can draw better than most adults and engineers complicated obstacle courses with everyday items. He always looks out for younger and smaller children when they are picked on. Do I sound like I want to kill my child? I told you about us because we both have have bipolar disorder and I was wonderring if you could recommend the right institution for us. Perhaps you could just tell us where we can check in? What would become of my two daughters? Anyway, thanks for the quote for my paper! Like I said, it will generate lots of laughs. Where did you buy your nursing certificate?

Everyone needs to leave her alone. I am sure she will pull through this and have a very happy life. Her best bet would be to move into the country and just try to live a normal happy life. She needs to get out of California. She has had to much to soon and too fast. I feel terrible for her. Shame on the tabloids for chasing after her in an ambulance. There needs to be privacy laws put in place for these celebrity's so they can have a normal life. People need to stop buying tabloid Magazines, maybe that would stop some of this craziness.

Is it point of views or points of view. Can someone from the grammer police please help me out?

    • Posted By: erischild @ 02/03/2008 5:03:16 PM

      ETHER58,
It is "points of view" because you have multiple points, where "of view" is describing those points.

    • Posted By: erischild @ 02/03/2008 5:01:22 PM

ETHER58, it is "points of view" since the point, or position is the thing you have multiples of. "Of view" describes the point.

I think it is so sad that our need to be in other peoples business takes center stage than the need for her privacy . and her out of control being played uot for all to see. poor baby needs just needs to be left alone so the proper people can help her without every little move publisized. shame on the tabloids for careing more about selling a story than someones saftey.

I agree that Post Partum may be a culprit with Brittany. I have seen alot of women have these kind of problem's after having children. I also think she needs to be left alone so she can get on the path of healing.

I believe it's point's of view how you used it. However it is either depending on how you phrase it. :)

FIrst to kdot2008: I am sick, sick, sick to learn you are a nurse. You are a disgrace to our profession. Your license should be revoked.
Second to Prof. Peabody: Southern doesn't make you trailer trash. I live in Arkansas, in a nice 2200 square foot house. I have a college degree and am able to stay out of trouble.
The fact of the matter is folks, this gal needs help and needs the media to get out of her face.

Everyone has gotton way off the subject. A simple debate about Britney and the issues surrounding her has turned into a Junior High name calling contest. Any possibility we could continue with some intelligent conversation. There are some interesting point of views here that are worthy being heard.
