It is really sad when a young woman with her status is so beaten down by the press. The newscrews, paprazzi all want a peice of the green backs, ratings associated with brittney . Ya know she'd probably be able to return to normal if these crazy a-holes would just leave her alone . Let the poor woman alone, stop covering her every move, allow her to get help. Then maybe cover her. I am so tired of hearing hoq someone followed her to starbucks, 7-11 or to eat out or shop naked.Who gives a damn?she puts her panties on like the rest of us as well as takes them off in the same way . let her be a normal person doing normal things.

It's not the California Mental Health Code, it's the California Welfare and Institutions code section 5150. Doesn't anybody fact check any more?

Britney is a woman of legal age living in a "free" country. What gives anyone the right to "assess" her mental health involuntarily. She has commited no crime I am aware of which gives any SMART (Systemwide Mental Health Assessment Team ((what a laugh))) the right to use these Big Brother tactics. Who will be next!!! Politcal opponents of the LiBS? The comment of 100 people involuntarily taken into custody per day is a travesty and a really scary thought. Who has authorized the new Gustopo. SMART tactic to get rid of "undesireables"

We focus on Spears so much we can get a distorted veiw of what mental illness is. Sometimes there is no one can help and you are alone. Ther many ways to get educated. They need to leaves Spears alone to get help and not give a distorted view of what mental illness. People need to get educated on what it is. It is not common for people have also help and attention. I am glad she is getting the help. But focus on the people the get lost in the mental health system with and the stigma that goes along with. I also agree there isssues in there world that need to be addressed like iraq health care africa and so farth name with held

I am wondering if you have a degree in psychiatry, becasue this is NOT NPD nor borderline personality. Substance abuse yes, but probably as a course of self medication for bipolar

    • Posted By: Penny Lane @ 02/03/2008 11:45:07 AM

      NPD - Attention-seeking behavior: Check!
      Self-destructive behavior: Check!
BPD Hues - Identity problems: Check! (British accent)
      Emotional lability: Check!

And I gots mah degree from Google University fo' free!

    mpauley..

Your knowledge of bipolar disorder is far greater than mine, but can I just ask you a few questions.
1-Is this illness from birth, or can you develop it in your twenties?
2-Can behavior induce bi polar disorders?
3-Could this be a drug and alcohol addled performers lifestyle carching up with her?
4-Isn't it a disservice to persons really suffering from bpd to dump Brit in their laps?
My friend has a 19year old daughter with BPD, and his wife is very angry over the label of BPD being used in Spear's case. As a parent you know what lengths you would go to to protect your child, so why don't her parents find a way to get her home for a while. Maybe tell the hometown folks they don't want the leeches coming around. Then let their child find some peace and quiet and see if her condition improves. Would that be better than the spectator sport that has become her life/

Climbing on the ambulance? What is wrong with people? At a certain point the public needs to go back to basics and recognize that she is not just "Britney Spears", she is a person with the same anatomy as your or I. She does not have a special genetic makeup because she's a celebrity, she just sings and dances, has lots of money and is now ill. Bottom line. I think some of those ambulance climbers need to be evaluated, because I don't think that's normal!!!

  • Posted By: moonstroller @ 02/03/2008 11:38:55 AM

I think it's time for everyone to look upon Britney as a human being. She needs space. The Paparazzi are treading on hallowed ground and need to remove themselves from the picture. They look like a pack of Buzzards feeding on a dead carcass. No one on this planet has unlimited freedom to invade someones space.

all of you people are sick and uncaring. it is blatantly obvious she is sick. that is the only time anyone in this country has any interest in debating a persons character.

  • Posted By: mpauley @ 02/03/2008 11:27:33 AM

I find it horribly sad that people insist on judging Britney for something she so obviously has no control over. I have a 17 year old daughter who was recently diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. I see the signs. I'm not a doctor or therapist but after going through months and months of therapy and working on getting the right medicine, I am amazed at the difference. This isn't something that anyone did...unfortunately genetics plays a role and my daughter lost. The most important thing for Britney is to accept the help and work on getting healthy. For those who poo-poo this, I pray you never have to deal with it or have a loved one who does. Look up bi-polar disorder and really read the symptoms. There is no cure but there are drugs that make an incredible difference. Please Britney, accept the help and work on getting your babies back. Know that there are some of us out here who understand and pray that you get the help you so desperately need.

I am amazed that all of you are commenting ont he choices that we all make, including the celebrities that are constantly inthe news. I feel sorry for the children that Brit has traumatized, but mostly I feel sorry for Brit because as was stated, most NORMAL 27 year old single moms would not behave like she is. She is not normal. She ahs a mental illness that is causing her to make rash decisions that put her and others at risk. She doesn't sleep, she wears pink wigs without shame, she hangs out with "Idots" because she is not inher right mind. Mental illness has a stigma of shame and blame and that is exactly what you are doing to her. Let her get the help FINALLY that she needs and maybe you will se a healthier Brit who CAN gain custody of her kids back slowly.Leave her to heal, and thank God that youdidn't have to make all of your mistakes and have your health deteriorate in front of the whole world.

There are no less than 4 conflicts in Africa, right now. You're concerned with how the mental illness of one person is both publicly portrayed and publicly regarded with an emphasis on expressing sympathy rather than exasperation. Are you okay? Do you need a hug, because Narcissistic Personality Disorder with Borderline hues co-morbid with substance abuse has been magnified into a public spectacle open to the harshest of ridicule? Blame the press! I do.

I used to feel sorry for her but I don't anymore. She purposely places herself in the limelight by wearing pink wigs, hanging out with idiots, going to nightclubs, etc. What normal 27 year old single mother of two spends her weeknights out on the town drinking, smoking, and doing drugs? Not many. I think it's a shame that the taxpayers' money is actually being wasted on trying to "control" someone who craves such attention. She should learn from those other 20-something stars who are sharing their art with the world--like Carrie Underwood, Lily Allen, Keira Knightley, Emile Hirsh, and James McAvoy--and do something positive for a change. But perhaps that's the point: she has no art to share. If that's the case, she still has somthing else to share--money. Help other people, Britney, and maybe you'll begin to help yourself.

You must feel really good about yourself, having said that. I bet you're a fairly descent human-being, too. Have you heard about the heart-rending situation in Darfur? People are calling it the "genocide in slow motion." Your early compassion for none-other-than Ms. Spears is heroic enough, but I don't see how it took you so long to stop feeling sorry for her. She's a pointless waste of a human vessel held aloft an ant mound made out of duung and built on the same tacet principals that guided the Stanford prison experiment.

Why do so many people not see the obvious? They complain about the paparrazzi documenting some celebrities every move, but miss the real reason. How often do we hear about Jack Nicholson or Meryl Streep hounded every minute? Never, but Paris, Britney and others can't take a step without documentation. Maybe it's because the normal behavior of real stars differs greatly from the posers. I'm tired of these people who invite the insanity that surrounds them, and then decry the resultant events. We slow down for a good look at a car wreck, but never notice the thousands of motorists passing uneventfully past us. Face it guys, we're all guilty of watching the show, but it's really the performance of the players that keeps us coming back for more.

    • Posted By: Penny Lane @ 02/03/2008 10:52:57 AM

I disagree. I certainly don't choose this sort of story, nor do I enjoy the carnage of a car-wreck. The right thing to do is to continue driving and get out of the way. Do people generally do that? Judging from the rubber-neckers who jack up traffic, not all of them do, but just because there is a traffic jam doesn't legitimize the practice of morbid voyeurism. It's a business decision - yes - and we're consumers, and THAT's the point of raising strenuous objection to this sort of story.

When a person chooses to be in the limelight, their public life will always be fodder for, well, the public. However, they owe the public nothing except a good performance at whatever field they are in.They DO NOT forfeit their right to privacy. This invasion by reporters is simply unacceptable and in my opinion, they are no worse than bottom feeders. Maybe it's time for the courts to intervene and start slapping fines on the reporters that continue to harass & hound these PEOPLE. Which is what they are, after all, just people.
