Crackup? Not So Fast.

Calm down. The GOP's demise isn't as imminent as some would have it.

Is there any difference between the Republicans and the Democrats? DEFINITELY NOT! At the present, the only presidential candidate that would qualify as a true Reublican is Ron Paul. Bush, McCain, Romney, etc. contradict what Republicans are to be like. My vote is for Ron Paul; but I'm afraid that the majority of Republicans reject him because they don't care for the Constitution and our country.

When are the Paulbots going to go away? Spamming every conceivable internet forum about that crackpot racist misogynist goon is getting very old.

Why do you call my comment 'spam'? Don't I have the right to express my views? Perhaps you are one of those that don't care for the Constitution and that's why can't stand Ron Paul and disrespect him by what you call him. By the way, I'm a Mexican-American, born in this great country and love it; and I believe that Ron Paul is the only true American that brings hope to America. If he is not elected as President, prepared to lose your feedom...... God have mercy on us!

....but the only Republican I would EVER vote for is Ron Paul, good call on that one....too bad he'll never be nominated.

Oh Karl. Listening to you is like listening to the last painful wheezes of the last dinosaur on the planet. You, your President, your party, your time - all done. Done, and soon gone. Can't happen too soon. Buh-bye.

    Calm down, indeed.

Who cares even if Obama becomes President?

What is he going to DO?

    Has he thought about that?

He will have to retreat from Iraq - the nation's first defeat since Vietnam. He will get the blame for all the consequences, the bloody chaos.

It will cover him with shame.

Isn't Hillary actually LUCKY she is not going to win this year?

Yeah, let's return to the days of the great foreign policy of Willy Clinton: Bombed an aspirin factory in the Sudan the day Monica testified to a Federal Grand Jury. Built a "mighty coalition" in the Caribbean to invade Haiti, which is WAY worse off now because Slick put a sadist in charge. Does absolutely NOTHING when terrorists attacked us many, many times offshore, which emboldened them to attack us on our own soil. I'd say it takes a Bush to clean up after a Clinton -- hopefully, Bush also disinfected the Oval Office after Slick left his slime there. We don't need Bill back in the White House humping the furniture.

Karl Rove makes good, clear, and valid points. Too bad all of it will fly over the heads of the Democratic leaning writers. More sadly, most of it will not be understood by the so-called conservatives whose short attention span only allows them to think about the two things the blow-hard, windbag radio broadcasters have hitched their stars to: Illegal Immigration and taxcuts without expenditure cuts.

Blah Blah Blah Republicans learning to fight Democrats, Democrats learning to fight Republicans blah blah blah and all the while the world goes around and gives time for other nations to build up as we fight amongs ourselves. The media needs to promote what is really going on so we can join together as AMERICANS and focus on building and promoting and growing and not fighting amongst ourselves like some spoiled kindergarden brats.

Back in the day everyone could see the american automakers being overtaken and quality becoming an issue and instead of doing a major overhaul and swithching up the game to win we focused on fighting each other and everyone lost!!! Bring it back for Detroit!!! I don't want to hear down with Ford or Chevy sucks or Dodge is better than you, i want to hear how we cover each others backs, roll with the best products and put our people to work with hope for a brighter tomorrow. stop fighting each other AMERICA and put it together now so ten years from now we can deal with new problems and not be caught up in the ones from today.

Never one to be concerned with the truth, Rove writes:

"Reagan's gifts to the Republican Party were ideas: growing the economy through tax cuts" -- grand idea exceot the data shows that reducing taxes has NOT stimulated the economy.

"... limiting government's size" -- sounds good on the stump, but the reality becomes lead in toys, death & disease from prescription medicine, corruption in mortgages & student loans, etc, etc, etc

"... forcefully confronting totalitarian threats" -- an illusion to the fall of the USSR? if so, another Reagan myth that needs to be shattered. Read about about Rep. Charlie Wilson, Dem from Texas & then watch "Charlie Wilson's War". You'll find that the Rep's campaign to help the Afghani's bankrupted the USSR.

"... making human rights a centerpiece of America's foreign policy" -- if I wasn't crying for the dead Central Americans and the US citizens who were killed trying to help them, this would be laughable. (see 's comments)

"... respecting unborn human life" -- how about some health care for the resulting children, or maybe, some families to adopt them.

"... empowering the individual with more freedom" -- what!?

Mr. Rove, you are now irrelavent, Newsweek, you are disgusting

The Newsweek server was hiccuping when I tried to post earlier - it looks like it also dropped part of a sentence or two. The correct sentences are:

      (see Cazador72's comments)

Newsweek, you are disgusting for giving this treasonous criminal a voice.

"If spirited competition on the Republican side is evidence of a crackup, then what about the Democratic battle?"

The Democratic Party has always been a spirited competition, a sign of a healthy democracy and it???s a reality that has been used against the left by spin masters like Mr. Rove. The fact that the different factions within the Republican Party are not on the same page, questioning the direction their party has taken under Bush???s leadership is perhaps the most significant sign that we have our democracy back, out of the grip of fascist, lawless leadership, the culmination of the conservative movement that started with the election of Ronald Reagan. It may not have happened if not for the utter incompetence and failure of the Bush Administration, thanks for that Karl. No, conservatism is hardly over but it sure is looking different these days.

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 02/03/2008 10:24:38 AM

The extreme elements of both parties are embarassing. Nancy Pelosi will have lunch and wear a burka for the same people who would execute most of her electorate. Rove will do anything to hold to power. America says no to both. McCain "08. A sense of reason and logic.

Everyone else on the planet openly and candidly discusses the horrific impact of the neoconservative movement upon the governance of this nation over the past eight years, except the domestic press and the Right. The Jerusalem Post just last week contained a book review and candid assessment on the "socialization" of neo-conservatism in America. Here, it is considered anti-Semitic. Go figure. But it remains the eight hundred pound gorilla. The Republican Party is in the same shambles the Democrats found themselves in after Liberalism ousted the conservative Democrats. Embracing the Welfare State, Nation-Building, Deficit Spending, the complete abandonment of Limited (federal) Governance as a concept, and the use of fear as a tool of governance . . . has destroyed the Republican Party. So where do we go now? Until Republicans can totally rid themselves of neoconservatism, heroic conservatism, compassionate conservatism, WHATEVER, they will need a little quiet time in the corner to find themselves. Until then, I will not be a part of it.

The GOP is not perfect. However, uniquely but not exclusively, as a young Black man-- I respect the Party of Lincoln. My hope is that more leaders will emerge in the GOP who are willing to implement creative intervention strategies focused on the most endangered American communities. And there are ways to do so without over-taxing and over-spending. The Party of Lincoln has a legacy of courage that runs deep.

    • Posted By: art0042@hotmail.com @ 02/04/2008 12:56:58 AM

Republicon's have not been the party of Lincoln's day for decades. About the same time that the democratic party that Strom Thurmond joined the republicons inprotest AGAINST civil rights. The same Strom Thurmond that conducted the longest filibuster ever by a U.S. Senator in opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

Probably more than half of the Republicans would prefer non-McCain to McCain, but no respectable alternative has emerged. The too little, too late effort to prop up Romney as the true conservative to RINO McCain will probably fall short. Ironicly, the winner-take-all system will make even a theoretical anti-McCain coallition of Romney and Huck fall short on delegates, and McCain will get the nomination with less than 40% of the votes.

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 02/04/2008 7:34:43 PM

Romney made the RINO list TWICE. McCain never has-he has an 85% conservative voting record AND he will KILL mohommeds. Thank GOD for a man who is not a sissy.

  • Posted By: eddiewhere @ 02/04/2008 5:31:56 AM

Even the republicans want change that is why McCain will eventually win the nomination. A lot of republicans will vote for Obama in the national election. WHY? THIS ADMINISTRATION is MISGUIDED KARL. THE AMERICAN people cannot stay stupid forever. We want the best future for our children. Many Republicans are disenchanted with the current administration and their own nominee. Instead of voting for McCain they will vote democrat. There is no way a Republican can win this election. McCain will keep the race close but will lose in thirty seven states. It is time to implement the Jeffersonian doctrine, and take back control of OUR GOVERNMENT.
Remember the republicans had control of all three branches of government and did nothing. No one is going to fall for this again. Gore and Kerry must be scratching their heads and wondering how on earth they lost. The Republicans and JEB BUSH have to wait four more years.

FInally someone who recognizes that corporate America has indoctrinated the average JOE. JOE IS IN DEBT because he consistently made bad investments. Why do you think that the FED lowered interest rates twice. THEY do not want AMERICAN CITIZENS TO SAVE and INVEST rather they want you to spend at all costs.
STAY STUpid is the theme in this tragedy. IT is the reason many Americans are needlessly going broke. Many HAVE BEEN completely indoctrinated spend and make bad investments.
EIGHTY percent of the world's capital is owned by a thirteen to twenty families. BUSH's are directly linked to these families. THE QUEEN of ENGLAND is part of this as well. IT IS IN THEIR BEST INTEREST TO KEEp people STUpid. INDOCTRINATE THEM TO Spend and manipulate the economy through the FEDERAL RESERVE to encourage people to spend. EVERY AMERICAN needs to learn this RULE.
The middle class has been the victim of corporate indoctrination. Stay StuPid. They do not want you to double your money they want you to double their money. Every middle class family should be able to do compound interest problems in their heads. It can be learned in grade two. It is a very useful skill to have because it gives you a lightning fast benchmark to determine how good (or not so good) a potential investment is likely to be.
The rule says that to find the number of years required to double your money at a given interest rate, you just divide the interest rate into 72. For example, if you want to know how long it will take to double your money at eight percent interest, divide 8 into 72 and get 9 years. If the Middle Class can make better financial decisions it would have a profound affect on the economy.
The rule A stronger middle class will make the rich richer in the long run and helP uPlift the Poor.

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 02/04/2008 7:32:22 PM

McCain would garner 20X more Democrate crossover votes than Hussein Obama would get from Republicans. But that will not happen because Hillary will get the nomination. Voting for a mohommed-you are pitiful.

President Reagan's gifts to the Republican Party were ideas: growing the economy through tax cuts, limiting government's size, forcefully confronting totalitarian threats, making human rights a centerpiece of America's foreign policy, respecting unborn human life, empowering the individual with more freedom. Those ideas endure. They give Republicans a philosophical foundation on which to build...."
It is frightening to read that Karl thinks these ideas are a legacy upon which to build Reublicanism. The extension of each one has led America downhill by degrading our ability to care and support one another, which is the function of government. Don't let this man make you think the American people didn't get the message. Young people clearly see these "ideas" as they were contorted by the neoconservative lack-of administration to be life-destroying in practice. And to claim "respect for the unborn!" as a Republiican value - Please! People have always held life to be sacred, but women particularly understand how much energy reproduction requires and their choices have always been difficult. Injecting laws into their vaginas hasn't helped.

As for hating the addition of his opinion into Newsweek - it's ugly to read his clever mental manipulations. I'm sure the hope is his followers will become exposed to rational thought as they page thru Newsweek, looking for his column. We must believe Americans can now see through his slimy mentality.

Republicanism, as normally moderately applied by the likes of Nelson Rockefellor, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Mark Hatfield, Bob Packwood and countless others protecting the classical approach while the Democrats try to incorporate change: it's a continuum and all this punditry and rhetoric is pathetic.

    • Posted By: thrasher32 @ 02/09/2008 12:53:07 AM

I'm glad to see that someone else remembers Ronnie Raygun as a total disaster. I honestly don't know why the republidots keep saying his name like he was some great statesman. He was a crook, a liar, a destructive idealogue, and a raving maniac. "The great communicator"??? I guess so if you consider lying communication.

Maybe some people need their memories jogged: Iran-Contra, Ollie North, "Just Say No", Grenada, Nancy "Skeletor: Reagan. A;exander Haig. Meese.

I am sooooo glad this whole republican revolution is over, it's like we're emerging from the dark ages.

Karl Rove is without a doubt the person most responsible for dragging the Republican Party down into the gutter and here he is commenting on the parties demise. Here is the key person responsible for putting George bush in office and keeping him there by spinning every possible scenario known to politics. The man has no conscience and no sense of the scope of the damage he has caused to the US. Is the Republican Party doomed? I don???t know however I certainly hope Rove???s version disappears never to surface again.
