    Re: The Bush Tragedy
In his excerpt Mr. Weisberg states "GWB did not arrive in the WHite House determined to invade Iraq". I beg to differ. There is ample proof that he was indeed determined, if not actively planning for that eventuality.
According to Bush's ghost autobiographer Mickey Herskowitz , he was planning in 1999 to invade Iraq. See:

See also BBC reporter Greg Palast, who reports that ???that planning began "within weeks" of Bush's first taking office in 2001, long before the September 11th attack on the US.???

These are but two examples. Mr. Weisberg did not offer any refutation of these existing contradictions to his statement. Surely he must have done research?

If the party is truly over ("The Party's Over," Jan. 28, Evan Thomas), maybe it's time for a new party. I would like to suggest the name The Redemption Party. By combining the first two syllables, the identity of the two parties' names is maintained. And we have a highly significant word. We currently have the sub-prime mess, soaring energy costs, and the continuing political wreckage of Irag. Are we not trying to redeem ourselves in our own eyes as well as those around the globe? As stated by Thomas, good presidents project visionary self-confidence. Great ones surround themselves with diverse points of view. Boldly established unity cabinets would send a strong message. To help redeem ourselves, we need candidates that aren't afraid to cross the party divide. Borrowing from the potential Kerry-McCain 2004 ticket, a similar bold move would be McCain- Lieberman in 2008, or Obama- McCain, representing the Redemption Party. As John Lennon would say: Imagine that.

It would appear Newseek's articles on George W. Bush and his presidency are meant to be the final shovelful of criticism needed to bury a Republican president whom they have been semi-willingly participants in the destruction of. There's much I'm angry about, but I will leave you with this, since Iraq is the big elephant in the room: Our history is full of wars that needed to be fought, even those that badly for us.
