I too served in the Vietnam War as a Hospital Corpsman and my father was a veteran of WWii with Pattons outfit all the way to the end. John McCain has my utmost respect and admiration. I have not met him personally but I have know of some who were POW's in the North. I have had my patriotism questioned by those who did not know this and I can tell you that it smarts in a way not much else can approach. Mr. McCain does well in keeping his resentment under control and I can tell he is a truthful individual who has and will own up to short-comings in his life and I hope in his Presidency. We all had a way which grew out of our common bond in armed conflict of knowing someone who was honest and loyal and someone who was just full of BS and out to make a name for himself in the war, even at the cost of their own men's lives. There is a reason the other Rebulican candidates would not be found in an off camera circle along with Mitt Romney and it is something that all one has to do is listen to know that after a while Mitt is just out for really one thing overall in this life and I will give you two quesses as to what that is. Just as sure as we had to go over there in WWii to keep them from coming over here, if we do not bring the fight to them now, the fight will eventually come here and all the business expertise and company management skills in the world won
t mean a thing then. We must win this war and McCain is the only man with the resolve and experience to take us to that victory.

I don't want McCain he is a war mongral like Bush it is his way or no way. He had an affair many but even with his second wife while married his first wife was hurt in a car accident and she didn't want him to know as he was a POW he sure worried about her after he got let go-sure he did! He is not the family man he portrays. I f Romney doesn't get in I will vote Democrat like many others are planning on doing. My husband was killed in Viet Nam fighting a useless war. i also praise McCain for his service, as i do every other soldier who fights and dies to protect the "stability" of this country, but his apparent agression towards others goes to show that he lacks the direction he once had in the military. he is now flying solo with only memories of his service. even while he was inlisted he evidently had a temper that characterized his personal instabilities. i dont think that it is a good idea that he become our commander and chief without being babysat.

I respect McCain very much. What he says is usually what he means. I believe you are looking at where the Republican party is going into the future wether he gets elected or not. The more talk radio puts him down the higher he raises in the polls. Even in the southern states he scores higher than Romney. It has been a generation since the civil rights bill was signed so the party that picked up the George wallace party can no longer count on significant number of votes from that extreme right group.
Romney of course is the real conservative.. cut taxes and spend more.. a chicken in every pot.. The foundation of america is crumbling right now because of the conservatives, I'm talking about the middle class, the rich still get richer though. Romney seem to think running the country is like running the corner store.
Of course McCain keeps saying the surge is working, great, but it is probably no different than rolling thunder was in vietnam... that worked too. His idea of having bases in Iraq for 100 years is actually a great idea if it would work.. but I dont see the the people of iraq agreeing with that.. bases in japan, germany, korea, etc worked great.. the places in iran sure didnt. There was nothing wrong with wanting to get rid of saddam like most of the world did.. but it was handled with arrogance and incompetance, I dont believe we would be in iraq now if we knew then what we know now. That means it was a mistake. i dont believe McCain will be able to salvage anything from irag. A trillion dollars that should have gone to fighting terrorism went to a failure that made terrorism worse... remember we are still fighting in Afganistan, a war we have to win.. and yes there will be bases there for many years to come

Could someone please explain to me why Mc Cain is surging? He is a radical clone of Bush who has no power to unite the country or help us regain our stature in the world. He is a vile tempered man. Is that the face we want to show to the world? Do we really want another hot tempered, opinionated, my-way-or-the-highway president? And what's with Huckabee? Is he willing to throw the whole Republican Party to the dogs because he hates Romney? My vote is going to Mitt Romey. If he doesn't get the nomination, I will vote for the Democratic nominee.

Mc Cain is surging because he has become the darling of the media - both print and electronic. Just look at NEWSWEEK's coverage. I applaud Mc Cain for his service to our country, just as I applaud every man or women who has served and is serving this country, but all Mc Cain is now is a Bush clone and we certainly don't want another Bush in the White House.

I don't think we need another guy that's going to spend his time trying to pick fights with everyone. McCain may have served his country, but he's NO HERO. Since when America has lower its standard for Hero, or have we decide that everyone who breaths is a hero? I ain't voting for McCain because he's a LIAR, big time LIAR, AND I THINK WE'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THESE LIAR POLITICIANS, HE'S BEEN IN THE SENATE FOREVER, AND HAS DONE NOTHING. I'm voting for Romney

Without question, John McCain deserves to be acknowledged as a man who truly fought for his country, on that we should not trample!

The Vietnam War was a horrible event. Many children either lost their fathers or their fathers came home with mental challenges from seeing all the different ways the human body can be blown apart, carved up, burned, and/or tortured.

When they returned home, what did they get? At the most, they got a retirement or disability check that ensured that them and their families would live at or below the poverty level unless they made the adjustment back into civilian life.

In June 2007, the Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet visited the White House to discuss a robust trade and economic relationship, cooperation on health and development issues, and other issues!

So what did more than 304,000 Americans get wounded for, and another 58,000 Americans die for?

When women give birth to their children, they want them to live long and prosperous lives. They don't want to send them off to fight a War to be killed or seriously wounded just so some politicians can kiss and make-up afterwards!

America has satellites that can see the date on a shiny penny sitting on the back of a pig's a**. We have weapons so sophisticated that we can send any enemy to Heaven or to Hell without sacrificing "1" American life, if necessary.

We don't need a President that is anti-war, but we do need a President that understands that they should only send "other peoples'" children into battle, as a last resort...my friends.

Ditto!! We did not lose in Nam, as they NEVER became a threat, till we outsourced to them.
"Soldiers don't EVER FAIL,Leaders do, and start at the top"
Veteran for Obams all the way! You could not be more right!
Veteran of a active duty son!

John McCain is a good man, a honerable Veteran! To go to heart and mind, is all that will survive a term in the WH, and as the GOP has a nasty habit of un-educated morons as VPs take DAN QUAIL! If McCain choses a VP with the same qualities? We have to know that this VP will run the country longer, than McCain himself! In 20+ years go back and, look, at any president prior to becomming a president! Then look at them after just 4 years, they age 20 years for every 4 in the WH, and McCain does not have much left to give, till he is just plain to old to do his job! Another thing to worry about, is what does McCains generation know what this generation needs? Like a 46 year old Obama, is, this generation, trying to survive the next 10+ years, Clinton is not either!! McCain is a good man but to old for the new age stress of the WH and a war and an motionless economy, just to old, his day has passed:( Mitt is just plain clueless, to those who are not of the cloth, and taxed as such! The less time in office, the more likely to remember where they come from, and at what price!

It is amazing the short term memory of the American voter. Google "Keating Five". Then learn about McCain selling out to media interest with the deregulation of the cable tv industry. Before McCain got caught with his hand in the Saving and Loan cookie jar cable TV here was about $12/month; after McCain, over $60. Check your heroes closely. McCain will be Bob Dole 2.0 in November- that's why the MSM boomers love him- he paves the way for Mrs. Bill Clinton.

Nice article, Thanks for writing it. McCain's not a saint, but neither is the competition. His cards are face up on the table. Right now, we are at war and will be for a while. He's the best of the field as commander in chief.

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 02/02/2008 11:58:25 PM

You are absolutely correct. McCain is the right man at the right time.

"HolyRoller" - Hey, didn't you used to be a rabid Gulianai supporter? Now you're singing McCain's praises. Hmmm, nope, no inconsistencies there!

Comment: As a high school teacher of 25 years, I've seen and dealt with every personality type that exists. It is easy to grasp the essence of John McCain. His entire world view is focused on threats and war. There is some demon he constantly fights and must put down in order to survive. He would be a very dangerous Commander in Chief. There will be war and then more war because is the ONLY fuel that keeps his fire lit. Even if he able to throw out some details on the economy, immigration, or education, it is easy to see that he cares very little about any of it. Please be careful voters; John McCain is not a stable person.

A man with a bit of a temper, who holds honor in high esteem, and doesn't always play well with others (who are playing with our national money)... well, he sounds pretty good to me.

Never mind Senator John McCain's foul and ungovernable temper, his lack of judgement, his lack of understanding of simple economics. Why is NO ONE in the media covering Senator John McCain???s dubious past? His apparently close family links to organized crime? His apparent involvement in defrauding US tax payers of hundreds of millions of dollars as a member of the Keating Five and his Censure? His appalling record in the treatment of veterans and veterans??? families and the families of MIAs? The information appeared 11 years ago on a small veterans??? website and has been ignored since. Why? See this site as the articles are too long and too detailed to present here:

All the information is in the public record and has been published in the US.
