I understand why every1 gets upset at the media. They're more often concerned with making $ then reporting news. I'm just curious why people don't do research and decide on a candidate themselves. It seems that going for the candidate the media DOESN'T like does as much damage as going for the one the media DOES like. How can u trust something enough to distrust it? Do the work and vote who u agree with, regardless of press.

When I read all these characters frothing in sycophantic delirium about their God-on-Earth, Obama, I just think about how lousy they are going to feel in a few months, when his myth has become ridiculous and outdated.

    Easy come, easy go.

All this Obama frenzy will leave those who indulge in it looking utterly stupid. People like Alter will be a laughing stock in a few months.

Here is something odd about the polling.

Obama and Clinton are tied in a new CBS News poll, 41%-41%, though Clinton leads 49%-31% among those who live in Feb. 5 states.

So Obama is close nationally but that includes states that do not vote tomorrow. You look at these states only Hillary is up by 18%.

Apart being employed by Newsweek, Mr. Alter must be a undercovered PR person on behalf of Obama.

Not everyone behaves like Clinton. Have you read the NY Times article on Uranium and Kazahkstan. The "explanation" that Hillary gave on Fox News about this smacks of hypocisy. If Hillary agrees to release all donor list to the Presidential Library, I will eat my words.

I am going to cancel my subscription to Newsweek today, I am sick of the biased opinion of the writers. I think Hillary deserves the same treatment as Obama.

Way to go. If Obama wins, you probably should relinquish your citizenship. Grow up!

Like it or not, Obama is a strong candidate. People tend to like him when they listen to him.

He has a large grassroots organization with hundreds of thousands of donors (unlike HIllary who has a fraction but large corporate interests).

Is it a continuation piece from last week's Kennedy endorsement? That is: Obama was born to a Hippie mother and a Kenyan student within 2 months of his entry to USA. (they are trying to make something like .. hmm.. Barack Obama Sr... hmm...Does anybody know what happened to this Donor?) Then this Hippie married a Indonesion Muslim.. .. He should be a Flower child..

    I'll echo James Admunson's "Finally!!"

Alter gets the frustration of those of us that are exhausted with the self-absorbed hippies, anti-hippies and other products of the 60's. Enough already. You're not that special and you're especially not that interesting. And you've had your turn. Thanks for bankrupting us. It's time for you to move on. Now.

I'd like to write more, but I have to get to work to pay for your retirement.

FINALLY!! Thank you for finally giving Generation Jones its due. Of course, Barack isn't a Boomer nor an Xer. Those of us who have been mistakenly lumped in with Boomers or Xers, and who have been excited about finally having an accurate generational label (ie. Generation Jones) have realized for awhile that Obama is one of us. I was born in 1960, and there is no way that I'm an Xer, I very much relate to the GenJones framework, and see in Obama the same qualities. Id Obama would publicly talk about being a GenJoneser, he would gain votes and enthusiasm from his fellow Jonesers.

The only struggle I can see with The Boomers is that some have not grown up and taken responsibility for themselves. They continue to need a hand out and want things to be given them today. As shamefuk as this is, what is moreso is that they are beingt sucked into the farce both Democrats are spewing, one without experiance, one whom has perfect the art of lying. Both are not qualified. Get smart and save your own life, vote for less taxes and safety of our country. McCain will do that

HILLARY HANDS REPUBLICANS A DEVASTATING SOUNDBITE FOR FALL ELECTION ...

Clinton health plan may mean tapping pay

    By CHARLES BABINGTON
    Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday she might be willing to garnish the wages of workers who refuse to buy health insurance to achieve coverage for all Americans.

The New York senator has criticized presidential rival Barack Obama for pushing a health plan that would not require universal coverage. Clinton has not always specified the enforcement measures she would embrace, but when pressed on ABC's "This Week," she said: "I think there are a number of mechanisms" that are possible, including "going after people's wages ..."

    GOING AFTER PEOPLE'S WAGES ...

IS THAT THE WAY DEMOCRATS TALK? ...

THE REPUBLICANS WILL KILL THE DEMOCRATS WITH THAT KIND OF LOOSE-LIPPED LUNACY ...

There is no incentive for Sen. Obama to accept an offer of the vice presidency from Hillary Clinton, as unlikely a prospect as that is anyway.

Hillary Clinton in the White House means a co-presidency with Bill.

Why would anyone what to take a position that, while it may be a heartbeat from the presidency, is also third fiddle in influence and power?

Who with any self-respect would accept being second-guessed and undercut by Bill Clinton?

The Clinton-Obama ticket idea is being floated by Hillary's trained seals in part to create a sense of moral equivalency between the two candidates--to the enormous detriment of Barack Obama.

The Clintons have nothing to say to a generation of young people looking for authenticity, honesty and transparency in their leaders and in their government.

That's why more and more, young people are turning to Barack Obama.

Newsweek's pro-Obama stand has turned it into a 24/7 Obama Marketing campaign.

I am not surprised that there are at least four pro-Obama pieces (as the following) now on Newsweek's site while there is no one article for Hillary leading to Super Tuesday.

    Pro-Obama pieces:

    1. Twilight of a Baby Boom
    2. Barack + GOP = ???Obamacans???
    3. JFK???s Heir
    4. The Wrong Experience

    Pro-Hillary peices:

    zero

What's Newsweek's fairness in terms of news reporting?

Is Hillary not a legitimate candidate who at least should be given the equal exposure of Newsweek's coverage leading to Super Tuesday?

I was an Obama supporter until mainstream media's unfair treatment towards this primary election circle. It doesn't sit well with my sense of fairness.

I know Obama phenomenon has everything to do with 24/7 mainstream media's favorable courage. Without mainstream media???s macrophone, can Obama so quickly enlarge to god-like stature? I sense that mainstream media???s love for Obama is originated from certain anti-Clinton sentiment.

I am not surprised Obama is doing so well so quickly. As a candidate if you have 24/7 mainstream media on your side and they are eager to give you a free ride, how can you not get ahead?

Its easy to brand Clintons as evil beings or archaic dinosaurs, since the flavor of the day is "change". Because you want change so badly, you throw the baby out together with the bath water, and will willingly accept any candidate who plays to your tunes. Change is so easy to promise, but how to bring about it requires experience, connections, level-headedness and maturity from a leader of the most powerful nation in the world.

Seems to me its time for a changing of the guard, I think all the older politicians arguably have done a decent job with the country up until now, now however is definitely a time for evolution, we don't need a guy who makes a living acting tough like bush back in the whitehouse, although Maccain may be fairly soft spoken but he represents to the world our histroy of war mongering that we need to leave behind. Vietnam has no meaning to, todays children nor will it to tomarrow's children we need to start focusing on more pressing issues such as healthcare, the economy. There is no need to accept that just because we have invented new wars from time to time that that means we need to continue the practive into the future. We don't need someone who approaches a leadership position talking about how well they could lead in a time of war, we need someone that doesn???t believe in war, was is an archaic concept that has done no measurable good for over half a century. At the end of the day lets be honest with ourselves the last conflict the US actually needed to get involved in was WWII, and we were forced to enter that conflict reluctantly, now we are actually STARTING wars??? We still have homeless, starving kids in this country, elderly without health care, people dying all over the world from easily curable diseases.... are you kidding me? What on earth are we doing wasting trillions of dollars of our own money marching around the planet sounding the trumpets, convinced we will accomplish something great and lasting by slaughtering thousand of angry poor people, and burying future generations in debt, we now look like the old USSR. Iraq was nothing more than compounding one tragedy with another. Remember how we talked about all this in the 80's and 90's, that by 2010 he would have flying cars, no wars, no disease, what happened?

    Mr. Alter,

I have read many positive articles you wrote about Obama. As a reader, could you do me a favor? As least writing an article or framing an argument that puts Hillary in an equally positive light . I know you are capable of doing this since this is your livilihood. I don't expect you to be fair and balanced, since I have already detected that your heart belongs to Obama. But as a reader--a customer, I do think I have the right to ask you for at least once to satisfy my desire. I am craving for a positive piece on Hillary.

Another interesting and helpful column! Thanks. As a female "late boomer" (and Obamamaniac) born in 1964, your observations seem right-on and the insights most helpful. I hate to think that we're seeing the 60-somethings "pitted against" the 40-somethings, and yet it does seem rather apt. The "feminist" slant seems a good illustration. As a professional woman with 2 generations of professional women before me (my grandmother was one of the first female medical doctors in Korea), I certainly consider myself a promoter of women and equality for women. But I cannot relate to the feminists who seem to believe that I should vote for Clinton because she's a woman and women are "owed." As much as I want to feel a connection with the strong women who may have made it possible for me to compete without real problems for equal treatment and equal pay in my profession, it is difficult for me to do anything but recoil from their angry, polarizing approach to life. I do not believe that you need to beat cooperation out of everyone around you or risk losing everything you've gained and I find it sadly ironic that when I hear the older generation of feminists talk about how women are "owed," I can only think that demanding special treatment somehow entrenches their sense of victimhood. In contrast, from the moment I picked up The Audacity of Hope, I felt a sense of belonging with Obama--I heard a voice that seemed to speak specifically to me. I hope the older and younger generations will NOT be pitted against one-another (my 72 year old mother is an Obamamaniac too--but perhaps that is because her mother did the groundwork a generation before her). But as the mother of a 10 month old daughter, I can only observe that while I would be extraordinarily proud if she were to grow up to be like Barack Obama, I am not able to say I want her to grow up to be like Hillary Clinton.
