Welcome to the Family

He may be JFK's heir. But Barack Obama lacks Kennedy's crucial ally.

Comment: Ever wonder if Ted Kennedy did this because if Obama is elected , he will owe Kennedy a favor, and if Hillary is elected , Ted Kennedy knows Hillary will not put up with his B.S. ?

Comment: Evan Thomas writes "Obama will have to be Kennedy tough to withstand the attacks that are sure to come his way". I believe that Obama may have faced much in his life already, growing up in with an African father and an American mother in an America not always known to be tolerant. To suggest that John, Robert and Edward Kennedy, sons of wealth and privilage by the time of their raising, would be tougher than a man raised either not-white, not-black or both white and black, seems foolish. Rather, I would think that the quality of "toughness" may be within the interior of Senator Obama, and, if so, it will be shown as needed in the days to come.

Comment: Barack I wish your Dad was alive to see what a Kenyan son can inspire. I'm proud of how far the US (my former country) has been able to put aside. Go Barry and Go US! Hopefully we can take lessons here in Kenya and keep the momentum.

Comment: NCongratulations Newsweek for the great service you are doing to the American public. Blaming the messenger is the creed of the Hillary campaign and supporters. Its a throw back in the dark ages.Common guys or gals, this the USA not the Soviet Union,free-speech and competition is the American way and creed..
Keep up the good work.Hillary may own democratic establishment, but doesn't own Newsweek or the democratic Party or America. We are a free and independent-minded nation!!!.

Comment: Here we go again, experience, experience. What experience?.Being the CEO of the Whitehouse Kitchen Dept?.Does that count as experience for the real thing?.Bluntly and honestly can a wife of a doctor claim the experience of her husband and will you be willing to be treated by the wife for * years???.
Hillary has always been dragged up and to the finishing line by Bill not by herself.Without Bill, what would have she achieved nothing absolutely!!!.Let the truth be told. She ws born into money and influence and a republican family.Hers ha been a life of privilege and unfettered expliotation of ordinary folks.Has she ever run a store, ever been a CEO, a governor?.Her insignificant senatorial tenure like everything claimed to have achieved were handed to her by Bill the guity spouse.Experience, who are you gals kidding???.
I love Obama because despite her bad cop Bill, he busted them both in IA & SC.Billary never forget nor forgive but who cares, only the blind and the deaf!!!.
Well, she maybe handed the the nomination but it will not be because she is the most experienced housewife in the whitehouse but rather because of this irrational loyalty to Qween Hillary.
Hillary has no political brilliance, competence nor judgement. She was completely and easily fooled by Bush and Cheney to authorise and continue to support the war uptil 2006 that she ruined her claim to experience and competence and readines more than Obama or the the republican or would be able to achieve!!!
Just imagine Qween Hillary face to face with Ahmedinejad, the bad cop of Iran. Will her classical tears win the day???.When Obama just gave her an elbow in Iowa, what did she do, go ballistic. When Obama gave her a kick she went crazy in SC.When Ahmedinejad gives her the works, will that not be WW#???.

Comment: Great piece and I agree withur analysis and conclusions.Barack Obama campaign management has been second to none. However, they have neglected terribly the importance & role of Bobby the enfocer, the dirty surrogate who surmonts any obstacles and gets the opponent on the defensive and her knees, be it on the debates, media or mailers.Who ever said you can win primary and election without getting dirty?.None in American history of primaries and general election.
Remember,in the first debate before the primary, she promised a clean campaign but see what she did in NH & SC,mean, dirty and racist!!!.
With Hillary more than 50% negatives and polirizing character and hidden records at little rock fort knoxx, this primary is Obama to loose!!! Go,Go on the offensive and counter offensive.Nothing is holy Experience and readiness to lead on day my God she singly blew up the first universal healthcare initiative when she had the WH,the presidency and party behind her because of her plotical incompetence, arrogance and inability to negotiate your way through a determined opposition.how many innocent lives were mortgaged by that arrogant and selfish stand,"either my way" or.......Ask Tim, the democratic congressmn whose only crime was to offer a better alternative Hillary universal and coercive health-care!!.Her extreme/radical leftist ideals are unamerican and a disaster in November. On the other hand,Obama's centist position on helthcare stands a better chance of winning amongst the majority of democrats and moderate republicans alike. When she stated that universal healthcare should be an article of faith for democrats in the last debate that was when she should have been exposed for her radicle leftist leaning!!.America is all about individualism and free-choice,values noone can mortgaged not even a Clinton!!!.

Comment: Check this out. HIllary is 13 points up from Obama in today's Gallup polls. But, that's not news of course: http://www.gallup.com/poll/104200/Gallup-Daily-Tracking-Election-2008.aspx

Obama is like Paris Hilton, an empty media created vacuum. I wonder if his supporters do know that he does not write his own speeches, but a white guy writes them? I wonder how African-Americans would feel about that.

Comment: Can anyone verify that last night someone briefly held up a sign in the distance behind one of the potential nominees that read, "Sounds like Iraq Osama"?
I heard people talking about it on the Metro this morning, but I have not heard anything further. If so, was it just an attempt at bad imagery or did it reference something else?

Comment: Open Your Eyes! Why are the Pro-Republican Media & Pundits ONLY ATTACKING Mrs CLINTON, and Silent on Obama? They Know they Can Beat Barak Hussain, but not Hillary - She was Investigated For 5 Years by Ken Starr & Republican Power Base - With NO RESULTS! If Obama wins Nomination, The "Swiftboating of Barak Hussein" Will Begin! and they know there is a lot to Dig Up!

"It IS All About Experience and ability to Fight" To REPAIR seven years of Lies by Republican Mal-Administration, rampant Federal Law violations, Documented 235 Iraq War of Choice Lies by Bush and Cheney, Corporatism in Government - allowing the manipulation of unregulated trading of oil and energy prices, lax enforcement of environmental laws, no mine safety regulation fines, attack on Constitutional Bill of Rights, Free Speech, spying on Americans, from imprisoning demonstrators in New York at Republican Convention to lying to Justice Investigation Valerie Plame violation of Federal Security Laws by Bush, directed by Cheney secret government and Irve Libby neocon manipulations, Karl Rove leaks to Robert Novak, etc. Yes, Experience Is More Important than Republican Media Hype to support Obama "bring us together", rather than reverse Last 8 years!

Comment: It's time for Obama to make the right choice: to choose patience over impudence; to choose humility over ambition. After eight years as vice president, he'll have complete and unequivocal support for his Presidential campaign. Because he'll have gained global experience and wisdom by the fistful. This is not 1960. The world is a subtle and dangerous place. We don't need another rookie with rousing rhetoric. We need wisdom and the experience to navigate the nuances - to hear the real questions being asked by and of this country, not just the contradictions within public comments.Clinton/Obama '08 mobilizes women and minorities. It mobilizes the establishment and the next generation. It unites the experience of the past with enthusiasm for the future. It is the only ticket that beats the Republicans.

Comment: Excellent points made in this article. I'd never thought of it in terms of the JFK-RFK era, but I have had a nagging doubt about Obama's willingness or ability to get down and dirty when he had to fight. He seems to float around as a party of one; even seeing his wife with him seems jarring, because it reminds you of the reality that he's a father and husband, not just this mythic figure he's fast becoming. My vote for behind-the scenes dirty work on his behalf? Old Teddy. He certainly knows the drill, and I doubt if such tactics are beneath him. He's done enough surviving, politically and otherwise, to know how to live to fight another day.

Can Barack or Hillary matched up w/ Mac? Let's see.

Comment: This is why Obama is so appealing to so many -- we don't need someone to be the scrapper who
does the "dirty work" ... Hopefully, we have evolved as a people and he reflects that.

That is the reason Obama appeals to so many.... undoing the old way of doing business.

Comment: The American People will be Obama's surrogate, as our voices rise to Washington drowning out the monied pockets of lobbyists. Obama invites us to be engaged, invites us to speak our truth. We the People will wrestle Washington back to where the power is--within each and every American heart. We the People must VOTE ourselves back into Washington, and the only way to do that is to vote for Barack Obama!

Comment: Is Senator Obama really an idealist as he appears?

One of today's NYTimes articles scertainly found out senator Obama is simply a typical poliitician--no better and no worse. But he does have a gift of playing the role of a saintly idealist, with the help of mainstream media.

    New York Times' article:

Comment: Newsweek's pro-Obama stand has turned it into a 24/7 Obama Marketing campaign.

I am not surprised that there are at least four pro-Obama pieces (as the following) now on Newsweek's site while there is no one article for Hillary leading to Super Tuesday.

    Pro-Obama pieces:

    1. Twilight of a Baby Boom
    2. Barack + GOP = ???Obamacans???
    3. JFK???s Heir
    4. The Wrong Experience

    Pro-Hillary peices:

    zero

What's Newsweek's fairness in terms of news reporting?

Is Hillary not a legitimate candidate who at least should be given the equal exposure of Newsweek's coverage leading to Super Tuesday?

I was an Obama supporter until mainstream media's unfair treatment towards this primary election circle. It doesn't sit well with my sense of fairness.

I know Obama phenomenon has everything to do with 24/7 mainstream media's favorable courage. Without mainstream media???s macrophone, can Obama so quickly enlarge to god-like stature? I sense that mainstream media???s love for Obama is originated from certain anti-Clinton sentiment.

I am not surprised Obama is doing so well so quickly. As a candidate if you have 24/7 mainstream media on your side and they are eager to give you a free ride, how can you not get ahead?

    • Posted By: frjiles1 @ 02/03/2008 12:59:41

Comment: I totally agree with you. The problem is that HIllary IS a very legitimate candidate. This is why the press is giving Obama a free pass in hopes of turning people against Hillary. I had just seen a commerical where Mitt Romney was attacking Clinton, SHOULDNTt he be attacking McCain at this point in the race?

If Obama gets the nomination, you will quickly see an end to the media[s love fest with him. Once the media starts beating him up worse than they did the Clinton's, what will happen? People will get turned off from him and then vote Republican.................get the idea?

It is a smart tactic, I just wish more people could see through it.

Comment: What is it with you Hillary supporters. All you guys do is whine! Hillary has gotten more favorable press from the media than she deserves. The problem with Hillary is she's a known quantity who can't make the sale. She blew that fake aura of invincibility and electability. Hillary was only a viable candidate to all of you who want the rest of us to shut up and go along. Sorry to disappoint. I am thrilled that for once in my adult life there is actually a race for the nomination that the establishment can't control.

  • Posted By: Psulionae @ 02/03/2008 4:36:00 AM

Comment: Barack is tough. You don't get to where he is today without being tough. He isn't going to get involved in the nasty politics because that's not what his campaign is about...that's the very thing he is fighting against....so that means his surrogates should not be involved in it either. Now if the people around the country who are supporting him want to assault nasty tricks and blows on the internet, write articles, etc. then that's one thing but you can't use his platform for cleaning up politics and twist it around and say blindly that he's not tough enough. That's absurd!
